A widely used iterative technique named the Method of Ordered Multiple Interactions is given for calculat-ing the Gaussian-like beam scattering from a time-varying sea surface with the Pierson-Moskowitz (P-M) spectrum. Thisis done by solving the magnetic field integral equation for the current induced on an infinite rough surface. Following thediscretization of the integral equation, the unknown currents can be determined more rapidly with the LU decomposition.Numerical results are presented with emphasis on the electromagnetic backscattering at low grazing angle incidence. Itis shown that the backscattering cross section is proportional to the nearly fourth power of the grazing angle for thebackscattering cross section with a different beam waist, surface length, and velocity of the wind are discussed  相似文献

Based on the impedance/admittance rough boundaries, the reflection coefficients and the scattering cross section with low grazing angle incidence are obtained for both VV and HH polarizations. The error of the classical perturbation method at grazing angle is overcome for the vertical polarization at a rough Neumann boundary of infinite extent. The derivation of the formulae and the numerical results show that the backscattering cross section depends on the grazing angle to the fourth power for both Neumann and Dirichlet boundary conditions with low grazing angle incidence. Our results can reduce to that of the classical small perturbation method by neglecting the Neumann and Dirichlet boundary conditions.  相似文献

Plane wave incidence on a rigid biconic target is considered. A biconic reflector consists of two cones truncated by planes perpendicular to their axes and joined at their smaller flat faces. The cone angles are allowed to be variable, provided their sum is equal to 90 degrees. The backscattering cross section is expressed in terms of a surface integral of the geometrical acoustics field, which results from incident singly and doubly reflected rays. A saddle-point calculation gives a first-order high-frequency approximation in which the backscattering cross section is proportional to the incident wave number and a function of the angle of incidence, cone angles, and inner and outer radii of the truncated cones. This expression is algebraically complex but easy to implement numerically. Results are presented that exercise the parameters of the problem. An interesting result of the solution is that for fixed outer radii there is a nonzero optimum inner radius for backscattering strength. For broadside incidence on 45 degrees cones with equal outer radii, this optimum value is approximately equal to 11% of the outer radius.  相似文献

In this paper, based on the fundamental formulae of the first-order and second-order Kirchhoff approx-imation mad with consideration of the shadowing effect, the backscattering enhancement of the one-dimensional very rough fractal sea surface with Pierson-Moskowitz spectrum is studied under the second-order Kirchhoff approximation at microwave frequency. The numerical results are compared with those of the first-order Kirchhoff approximation and integral equation method. The dependencies of the bistatic scattering cross section and the backscattering enhancement on the incident angle, fractal dimension, and windspeed over the sea surface are analyzed in detail.  相似文献

Measurements of acoustic sea surface backscattering, wind speed, and surface wave spectra were made continually over a 24-h period in an experiment conducted in 26 m of water near the Dry Tortugus collection of islands off south Florida in February 1995. The backscattering measurements were made at a frequency of 30 kHz and a sea surface grazing angle of 20 degrees; a time series of the decibel equivalent of this variable, called SS20, was studied in terms of its dependence on environmental variables. On occasion reliable estimates of scattering in the grazing range 15 degrees-27 degrees were also obtained during the 24 hours. The scattering data exhibited evidence, in terms of scattering level and grazing angle dependence, of scattering from near-surface bubbles rather than scattering from the rough air-sea interface. The scattering data were compared with a model for sigma(b), the apparent backscattering cross section per unit area due to bubble scattering, that is driven by a parameter, beta1, equal to the depth-integrated extinction cross section per unit volume. Using an empirical model for beta1 based on data from a 1977 experiment conducted in pelagic waters, model predictions agreed reasonably well with the 1995 measurements presented here. Additional model-data comparisons were made using four measurements from a 1992 experiment conducted in pelagic waters. Finally, the 24-h time series of acoustic scattering exhibited a hysteresis effect, wherein for a given wind speed, there was a tendency for the scattering level to be higher if prior winds had been falling. A better understanding of this effect is essential to reduce uncertainty in model predictions.  相似文献

Abstract

It is shown that for scattering from a plane in an average rough surface, the scattering cross section of the range of small grazing angles of the scattered wave demonstrates a universal behaviour. If the angle of incidence is fixed (in general it should not be small), the diffusive component of the scattering cross section for the Dirichlet problem is proportional to θ2 where θ is the (small) angle of elevation, and for the Neumann problem it does not depend on θ. For the backscattering case these dependences correspondingly become θ4 and θ°. The result is obtained from the structure of the equations that determine the scattering problem rather than by use of an approximation.  相似文献

Sea surface current has a significant influence on electromagnetic(EM) backscattering signals and may constitute a dominant synthetic aperture radar(SAR) imaging mechanism. An effective EM backscattering model for a one-dimensional drifting fractal sea surface is presented in this paper. This model is used to simulate EM backscattering signals from the drifting sea surface. Numerical results show that ocean currents have a significant influence on EM backscattering signals from the sea surface. The normalized radar cross section(NRCS) discrepancies between the model for a coupled wavecurrent fractal sea surface and the model for an uncoupled fractal sea surface increase with the increase of incidence angle,as well as with increasing ocean currents. Ocean currents that are parallel to the direction of the wave can weaken the EM backscattering signal intensity, while the EM backscattering signal is intensified by ocean currents propagating oppositely to the wave direction. The model presented in this paper can be used to study the SAR imaging mechanism for a drifting sea surface.  相似文献

The particular problem of wave scattering at low grazing angles is of great interest because of its importance for the long-distance propagation of radio waves along the Earth's surface, radar observation of near surface objects, as well as solving many other fundamental and applied problems of remote sensing. One of the main questions is: how do the scattering amplitude and specific cross section behave for extremely small grazing angles? We consider the process of wave scattering by a statistically rough surface with the Neumann boundary condition. This model corresponds to sound scattering from a perfectly 'hard' surface (for example, the interface between air and the sea surface) or 'vertically' polarized electromagnetic waves scattered by a perfectly conducting one-dimensional (i.e. cylindrical) surface when the magnetic field vector is directed along the generating line of this cylindrical surface. We assume that the surface roughness is sufficiently small (in the sense of the Rayleigh parameter) and the surface is rigorously statistically homogeneous and therefore, infinite. We confine ourselves only to the first-order approximation of small perturbation theory and therefore consider every act of wave scattering in the Born approximation when the Bragg scattering process takes place. Only one resonant Fourier component of surface roughness is responsible for the scattering in a given direction. However, we take into account the attenuation of incident and scattered waves due to the multiple scattering processes on the path 'before' and 'after' a scattering event in a given direction. Also we consider every one of these multiple scattering events only in the Born approximation. The main result we have obtained is that for small grazing angles the scattering cross section of the diffuse component decreases as the second power of the grazing angles with respect to the incident and scattered directions, and as the fourth power of the grazing angle for the backscattering (radar) situation. Generalizing our results from plane-wave scattering to finite beams allows us to obtain the criterion on the beamwidth. For sufficiently narrow beams the multiple scattering processes do not play any role because of a short 'interaction path', and only single Bragg scattering determines the scattering amplitude (which does not tend to zero for small grazing angles). However, for sufficiently wide beams the result obtained for infinite plane waves becomes valid: due to the above-mentioned multiple scattering processes, the scattering amplitude tends to zero for small grazing angles. Consequently, the behaviour of the scattering cross section for small grazing angles depends on the radiation pattern width of the transmitting and receiving antennae: for sufficiently wide beams the scattering cross section decreases to zero at small grazing angles, but for narrow beams it tends to the finite non-zero value.  相似文献

为探讨纳米碳纤维作为烟幕粒子的红外消光特性,基于电磁场理论建立了细直的纳米碳纤维感应电流积分方程,并利用矩量法进行了求解,导出了纳米碳纤维散射场及吸收、散射和消光截面的计算式.通过与变分法的计算结果相比较,表明了该方法的有效性.利用该方法数值分析了纳米碳纤维红外消光截面与入射场波长、入射角、纤维长度和半径的关系,计算结果为纳米碳纤维用于红外烟幕干扰提供了理论依据.  相似文献

Previous analyses of electromagnetic scattering from a two-scale ocean surface assumed the tilts on a large-scale surface to be small. This means that multiple scattering between large-scale roughnesses is insignificant. If the tilts are not small, multipath-enhanced backscattering may occur due to quasi-specular reflections between the opposite slopes of a large-scale surface component. We have considered the simplest situation; this involves one reflection from the large-scale component and one single-scattering from the small-scale component. The coherent addition of this process to the reciprocally reverse one creates multipath-enhanced backscattering. The relative gain in the HH backscattering cross section up to the level of the VV signal was obtained for surface-wave slopes of about 30° and for large incidence angles. This gain occurs because the VV signal experiences an extinction during reflection at incident angles close to the pseudo-Brewster angle. The presented model provides insight into one scattering mechanism that is possibly responsible for the departure of radar sea experimental data from predictions by the conventional two-scale model.  相似文献

Radar backscatter from mesoscale breaking waves on the sea surface is considered. Breaking waves are shown to be responsible for sea spikes and high Doppler shift with horizontal polarization observed at low grazing angles. The backscatter cross sections for scattering from a single breaking wave are computed for both orthogonal polarizations. An estimate is obtained of the backscatter cross section averaged over the sea surface. It is shown that the main scattering mechanisms are specular backscatter from the steep front of the breaking wave, and backscatter enhancement due to double-bounce scattering from the wave itself and from the foot of the breaking wave. Horizontally polarized backscatter is shown to be considerably higher than vertically polarized backscatter when the angle of incidence is close to the Brewster angle.  相似文献

传统观点认为C波段散射计工作波长大于雨滴直径,受降雨散射衰减的影响很小, 因此往往忽略降雨对C波段散射计测风的影响.本文基于降雨引起C波段散射计信号的衰减、 后向体散射及雨滴落入海面后的扰动作用,推导了降雨条件下的雷达方程, 构建了2010年全年的ASCAT散射计、降雨雷达和欧洲中期天气预报中心数值预报的匹配数据集, 定量分析了降雨对C波段散射计测风的影响,发现其信号衰减随降雨强度和入射角的增大而增强; 后向体散射和雨表面扰动作用随降雨强度的增大而增强、随入射角的增大而减小, 其中雨表面扰动作用对散射计测风的影响大于后向体散射.另外, 利用降雨条件下的雷达方程和匹配数据集,本文建立了降雨条件下的C波段主动微波辐射传输模型, 实验表明,该模型能够改善降雨条件下C波段散射计测风的精度.  相似文献

The energy and charge distributions of helium ions and atoms reflected from a Cu surface at grazing incidence have been measured at the energies 250 and 300 keV. The dependence of the relative number of helium atoms in the scattered beam on the scattering angle at incidence angles less than 2° and scattered particle energies below 150 keV has been discovered. It is shown that, for a theoretical estimation of the charge fractions of particles reflected from the target surface, charge-exchange cross sections used in calculations must be corrected when solids are considered instead of gases.  相似文献

We describe a double-scattering experiment with a novel tagged neutron beam to measure differential cross sections for np backscattering to better than +/-2% absolute precision. The measurement focuses on angles and energies where the cross section magnitude and angle dependence constrain the charged pion-nucleon coupling constant, but existing data show serious discrepancies among themselves and with energy-dependent partial-wave analyses. The present results are in good accord with the partial-wave analyses, but deviate systematically from other recent measurements.  相似文献

In spite of recent progress, existing theories of electromagnetic wave scattering by rough surfaces cannot yet explain several important features of microwave sea echo, particularly in grazing incidence geometries. To explain them it is necessary to develop scattering models that can reproduce the features in a robust way. The aim of this paper is to report laboratory optical frequency experiments designed to aid achievement of this objective. In particular, polarization sensitive measurements of the backscattered intensity are reported for a range of characterized fractal surfaces using visible laser radiation. The appearance of enhanced backscattering peaks are observed even quite close to grazing incidence for some types of surfaces and indicate the importance of multiple scattering. It is also shown that the dependence of the backscattering cross-section on incidence angle bears some gross similarities to that obtained from microwave scattering from the sea surface for high index fractal surfaces that exhibit intermittency.  相似文献

海浪的破碎区会导致海面电磁散射特性发生很大改变,导致海尖峰现象的产生.本文结合阻抗劈结构模型分析了劈绕射对破碎波后向散射特性的影响.首先利用基尔霍夫近似求解破碎波的物理光学场;基于Maliuzhinets方法,从波动方程及精确阻抗边界条件出发,由谱函数的积分形式得到阻抗劈的一致性绕射系数,结合物理光学绕射系数导出阻抗劈等效边缘电磁流;利用边缘绕射场修正物理光学场,得到考虑劈绕射效应的破碎波散射总场.数值结果表明,阻抗劈的绕射场在Keller锥内出现HH极化大于VV极化的现象,因此计入绕射场的影响会使得破碎波生长到临近坍塌阶段时,小擦地角逆风观测出现总场的后向散射截面HH极化大于VV极化的现象,说明劈绕射是造成海尖峰现象产生的原因之一.  相似文献
