In this paper we prove that certain generalized free products of abelian subgroup separable groups, amalgamating an infinite cyclic subgroup, are abelian subgroup separable. Applying this, we derive that tree products of free groups or finitely generated nilpotent groups, amalgamating infinite cyclic subgroups, are abelian subgroup separable.  相似文献

Scott (1978) [12] showed Seifert 3-manifold groups are subgroup separable. Niblo (1992) [9] improved this result by showing that these groups are double coset separable. In Allenby, Kim and Tang (2005) [2] it was shown that all but two types of groups in the orientable case are conjugacy separable. Martino (2007) [7] using topological results showed that Seifert groups are conjugacy separable. Here we use algebraic method to show that Seifert groups over non-orientable surfaces are conjugacy separable.  相似文献

We investigate separability questions for the mapping class group of a surface. While this group is not subgroup separable in general, we prove a large family of interesting subgroups are separable. This includes many classically studied subgroups such as solvable subgroups, Heegaard and Handlebody groups, geometric subgroups, and all the terms in the Johnson filtration.  相似文献

In this paper we prove that every finitely generated Coxeter group has a finite index subgroup that is the fundamental group of a special cube complex. Some consequences include: Every f.g. We show that all groups in a very large class of Coxeter groups are locally quasiconvex and have a uniform membership problem solvable in quadratic time. If a group in the class satisfies a further hypothesis it is subgroup separable and relevant homomorphisms are also calculable in quadratic time. We consider the completion of a topological field whose topology is defined by the valuations of a dependence class of valuation rings. We characterize the separable closure of the field in its completion through henselization of those valuation rings. Actually, we prove that this relative separable closure is the fixed field of some particular subgroup of continuous automorphisms of the total separable closure. We prove also that this relative separable closure has some properties which are analogous to those of the henselization.This paper is part of the author's doctoral dissertation and was finished during his stay in Konstanz though the CNPq/GMD program.The results 2.11 and 2.12 were firstly announced in C.R. We show that there are 3-manifolds with cubings of non-positive curvature such that their fundamental groups are not subgroup separable (LERF). We also give explicit examples of non-separable surfaces in certain cubed manifolds.

We show that every virtually torsion-free subgroup of the outer automorphism group of a conjugacy separable relatively hyperbolic group is residually finite. As a direct consequence, we obtain that the outer automorphism group of a limit group is residually finite.  相似文献

The eigenvalues of a non-singular conservative ergodic transformation of a separable measure space form a Borel subgroup of the circle of measure zero. A celebrated theorem of Marshall Hall Jr. implies that finitely generated free groups are subgroup separable and that all of their finitely generated subgroups are retracts of finite-index subgroups. A ring is said to be normal if all of its idempotents are central. It is proved that a mixed group A with a normal endomorphism ring contains a pure fully invariant subgroup GB, the endomorphism ring of a group G is commutative, and a subgroup B is not always distinguished by a direct summand in A. We describe separable, coperiodic, and other groups with normal endomorphism rings. Also we consider Abelian groups in which the square of the Lie bracket of any two endomorphisms is the zero endomorphism. It is proved that every central invariant subgroup of a group is fully invariant iff the endomorphism ring of the group is commutative.  相似文献

Let G be the semidirect product group of a separable locally compact unimodular group N of type I with a closed subgroup H of Aut(N). The group N is not necessarily commutative. We consider irreducible subrepresentations of the unitary representation of G realized naturally on L2(N), and investigate the wavelet transforms associated to them. Furthermore, the irreducible subspaces are characterized by certain singular integrals on N analogous to the Cauchy-Szegö integral.  相似文献

This paper answers a question of Burns, Karrass and Solitar by giving examples of knot and link groups which are not subgroup-separable. For instance, it is shown that the fundamental group of the square knot complement is not subgroup separable. Let denote the fundamental group of the link consisting of a chain of circles. It is shown that is not subgroup separable. Furthermore, it is shown that is a subgroup of every known non-subgroup separable compact 3-manifold group. It is asked whether all such examples contain .
