Based on the Bohr–Sommerfeld model, we investigate the quantization of magnetic flux through the electronic orbits together with its dependence on additional sources of magnetic fields. The additional magnetic field causes changes of the angular momentum and hence shifts of the energy of the atomic levels. We study this effect for the cases of the Zeeman effect, where the source is an external homogeneous magnetic field, and the hyperfine interaction, where the source is the field of the magnetic moment of the nucleus. We discuss a model for the handling of the different angular momentum contributions for which the energy shifts due to the Zeeman effect and the magnetic dipole contribution to the hyperfine interaction can be reproduced quite well. The meaning of “spin,” however, changes within this approach drastically. The unusual Landé g-factor of the electron is discussed to be the result of a reduced ground-state angular momentum of the electron in combination with the field of the magnetic moment of the electron rather than an intrinsic property of the electron.  相似文献

Quantitative explanation for the odd-even effect on fragment angular momenta in the low-energy fission of actinides have been provided by taking into account the single particle spin of the odd proton at the fragment’s scission point deformation in the case of odd-Z fragments along with the contribution from the population of angular momentum bearing collective vibrations of the fissioning nucleus at scission point. The calculated fragment angular momenta have been found to be in very good agreement with the experimental data for fragments in the mass number region of 130–140. The odd-even effect observed in the fragment angular momenta in the low-energy fission of actinides has been explained quantitatively for the first time.   相似文献

Total angular momentum for asymptotically flat manifolds is defined. Positive mass theorem for initial (spin) data set (M, g ij , p ij ) with nonsymmetric p ij is proved. As an application, we establish positive mass theorems involving total linear momentum and total angular momentum. This gives an answer to a problem of S. T. Yau in his Problem Section [Ya2] and a partial answer to his recent conjecture on the relationship among total energy, total linear momentum, total angular momentum and entropy of black hole. We investigate the problem about what the spin-magnetic moment is. The magnetic moment of the Dirac electron in the frame along z-axis is evaluated. This is identified with the spin-magnetic moment of the electron, because there is not any z-component of magnetic moment caused by orbital angular momentum in our frame. The correct value of the spin-magnetic moment and the correct ratio of the spin-magnetic moment to the spin (i.e. g=2) are obtained explicitly. In deriving them, the negative energy solutions of the Dirac equation perform essential roles. We find that the transition current from a positive energy state to a negative energy state causes spin-magnetic moment of the electrons in vacuum. This fact implies that the ratio of the spin-magnetic moment to the spin may change depending on the environments. For example, it may have different values in materials.  相似文献

The temporal dynamics of a spinor exciton-polariton condensate in a high-quality anisotropic GaAs microcavity under pulsed resonant excitation with light possessing a nonzero orbital angular momentum is investigated. The phenomenon of spatial separation of the spin components of the polariton condensate upon pumping with a coherent superposition of two beams with opposite circular polarizations and orbital angular momenta is observed. The key factors for the observation of this effect are the lateral anisotropy of the microcavity that causes a splitting between the linear components of the polariton ground state and the occurrence of opposite orbital angular momenta for the two spin components of the condensate. The experimental results are in qualitative agreement with the theoretical model of the phenomenon developed in JETP Lett. 104, 827 (2016).  相似文献

In analogy with the separation of the total optical angular momentum into a spin and an orbital part in electrodynamics, we introduce a new concept of spin and orbital angular coherence momenta into the general coherence theory of vector electromagnetic fields. The properties of the newly introduced spin and orbital angular coherence momenta are investigated through the decomposition of the total coherence angular momentum into the sum of these two components, and their separate conservations have been derived for what is believed to be the first time.  相似文献

Time-resolved Kerr rotation spectroscopy is used to determine the sign of the g factor of carriers in a semiconductor material,with the help of a rotatable magnetic field in the plane of the sample.The spin precession signal of carriers at a fixed time delay is measured as a function of the orientation of the magnetic field with a fixed strength B.The signal has a sine-like form and its phase determines the sign of the g factor of carriers.As a natural extension of previous methods to measure the (time-resolved) photoluminescence or time-resolved Kerr rotation signal as a function of the magnetic field strength with a fixed orientation,such a method gives the correct sign of the g factor of electrons in GaAs.Furthermore,the sign of carriers in a (Ga,Mn)As magnetic semiconductor is also found to be negative.  相似文献

The matrix of the operator of the spin-other-orbit interaction energy is constructed for npn’g and np 5 n’g configurations. The matrix elements of this operator are calculated in the single-configuration approximation with wave functions in the LSJM representation and in the representation of uncoupled angular momenta using the known general formulas. The origin of the signature splitting of theK=1/2+ bands in odd Z rare-earth nuclei Ho, Tm and Lu, unexplained in previous models, is studied by angular momentum projection from deformed Hartree-Fock configurations. Energy spectra,E2 matrix elements and the rotation-aligned angular momenta of nucleons in i1 3/2, h1 1/2 and g7/2 orbits are calculated. Staggering in the rotation-alignment of protons in the g7/2 orbit causes signature dependent effects in the 1/2+ bands.  相似文献

The solutions of the momentum constraints on the Einstein-Rosen manifold with two bridges, representing two black holes, are analyzed. These solutions are in the form of an infinite series. Their higher order terms are shown to fall off asr –6. These terms add multipole moments and gravitational radiation to the initial data and do not contribute to the linear and (spin) angular momenta of the black holes.  相似文献

Ratio of electron charge radius and Compton wavelength of electron is known to be equal to the dimensionless electromagnetic coupling constant e2/? c. It is pointed out that the coupling constant has two alternative interpretations: as a ratio of two angular momenta since Planck constant has the dimension of angular momentum, and two flux quanta e and hc/e. We argue that it has deep physical significance such that the electronic charge becomes flux itself and at a fundamental level fractional spin of quantized vortex. A unified perspective of the three interpretations of the coupling constant is presented invoking the new interpretation of the magnetic moment of the electron comprising three terms. A critical discussion on the magnetism and flux quantum is given and the implication on the spintronics is pointed out.  相似文献

By making use of the method of moments we study some aspects of the statistical behavior of the nonrelativistic harmonic oscillator according to stochastic electrodynamics. We show that the random rotations induced on the particle by the zero-point field account for the magnitude of the spin of the electron, the result differing from the correct one(3/4)h 2 by a factor of2. Assuming that the measurement of a spin projection may be effectively taken into account by considering the action of only the subensemble of the field with the corresponding circular polarization, the calculated value of the spin projection comes out to be the correct one within a factor of order unity. The radiative corrections give rise to both the Lamb shift and the anomalous magnetic moment of the electron, the latter being evaluated to within a factor of2. The magnetic and gyromagnetic properties of the electron come out to be in agreement with quantum mechanics. The local structure of the Cu2+ centers in alkali lead tetraborate glasses was theoretically studied based on the optical spectra data and high-order perturbation formulas of the spin Hamiltonian parameters (electron paramagnetic resonance g factors g, g and hyperfine structure constants A, A) for a 3d9 ion in a tetragonally elongated octahedron. In these formulas, the relative axial elongation of the ligand O2? octahedron around the Cu2+ due to the Jahn–Teller effect is taken into account by considering the contributions to the g factors from the tetragonal distortion which is characterized by the tetragonal crystal-field parameters Ds and Dt. From the calculations, the ligand O2? octahedral around Cu2+ is determined to suffer about 19.2% relative elongation along the C4 axis of the alkali lead tetraborate glass system, and a negative sign for A and a positive sign for A for these Cu2+ centers are suggested in the discussion.  相似文献

Measurements are reported of the angular correlation of annihilation radiation from polarized positrons in single crystals of Fe3O4. No change has been found in the angular correlations on passing through the metal-nonmetal phase transition. The twophoton momentum distribution, obtained by deconvolution of a set of angular correlations, displays a slight anisotropy. The spin density consists of a negative peak at zero momentum surrounded by a shell of positive density between 2 and 5 mrad. The observed spin density is probably a mixture of contributions from the moment on the ferrous ions and from the spin transfer onto the anions owing to covalency effects.  相似文献

We study subgap spectra of fermions localized within vortex cores in 3He-B. We develop an analytical treatment of the low-energy states and consider the characteristic properties of fermion spectra for different types of vortices. Due to the removed spin degeneracy the spectra of all singly quantized vortices consist of two different anomalous branches crossing the Fermi level. For singular o and u vortices the anomalous branches are similar to the standard Caroli-de Gennes-Matricon ones and intersect the Fermi level at zero angular momentum yet with different slopes corresponding to different spin states. On the contrary the spectral branches of nonsingular vortices intersect the Fermi level at finite angular momenta which leads to the appearance of a large number of zero modes, i.e. energy states at the Fermi level. Considering the ν, w and uvw vortices with superfluid cores we show that the number of zero modes is proportional to the size of the vortex core.  相似文献

We calculate the axial couplings gA8(0) and gA0(0) related to the spin of the nucleon in a constituent quark model. In addition to the standard one-body axial currents, the model includes two-body axial exchange currents. The latter are necessary to satisfy the Partial Conservation of Axial Current (PCAC) condition. For both axial couplings we find significant corrections to the standard quark model prediction. Exchange currents reduce the valence quark contribution to the nucleon spin and afford an interpretation of the missing nucleon spin as orbital angular momentum carried by nonvalence quark degrees of freedom.  相似文献

The transformation of the angular momentum of an optical eddy in a weakly directing perturbed optical fiber is analyzed within the spin-orbit operator representation. The case of fibers with anisotropy of the core and cladding materials and the case of fibers with an elliptic cross section are considered. The spectrum of polarization corrections to the scalar propagation constant is determined for fibers of two types. For both the strongly anisotropic and elliptic fibers, the spin angular momentum of the linearly polarized LV eddy is suppressed and the orbital angular momentum is characterized by simple oscillations with a beating length dependent only on the spin-orbit parameter of an unperturbed fiber. The orbital and spin angular momenta of the circularly polarized CV eddy in the anisotropic fiber interchange in the elliptic fiber. The orbital angular momentum can be completely restored in the strongly anisotropic fiber, whereas only the spin angular momentum is completely restored in the elliptic fiber.  相似文献

We propose and demonstrate experimentally the discrimination between two spin states of an atom purely on the basis of their angular momentum. The discrimination relies on angular momentum selection rules and does not require magnetic effects such as a magnetic dipole moment of the atom or an applied magnetic field. The central ingredient is to prevent by coherent population trapping an optical pumping process which would otherwise relax the spin state before a detectable signal could be obtained. We detected the presence or absence of a single quantum (h) of angular momentum in a trapped calcium ion in a single observation with success probability 0.86. As a practical technique, the method can be applied to read out some types of quantum computer.  相似文献

It is shown that prominent measures of the helicity of chiral electromagnetic radiation have a common basis, in differences between the populations of optical modes associated with angular momenta of opposite sign. The analysis helps to develop the interpretation of chiroptical phenomena in which such metrics have been treated as representing physically distinct "superchiral" phenomena. Constructing theory with due cognizance of photonic character, it emerges only that the spin angular momentum of light is engaged in such observations.
