A steady two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic stagnation-point flow of an electrically conducting fluid and heat transfer with thermal radiation of a nanofluid past a shrinking and stretching sheet is investigated numerically. The model used for the nanofluid incorporates the effects of the Brownian motion and thermophoresis. A similarity transformation is used to convert the governing nonlinear boundary-layer equations into coupled higher-order nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The result shows that the velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles are significantly influenced by the Brownian motion, heat radiation, and thermophoresis particle deposition.  相似文献

An analytical study of the entropy generation rate and heat transfer in a flow of immiscible couple stress fluids between two horizontal parallel plates under a constant pressure gradient is performed. Both plates are kept at different and constant temperatures higher than that of the fluid. The Stokes couple stress flow model is employed. The classical no-slip condition is prescribed at the plates, and continuity of the velocity, rotation, couple stress, shear stress, temperature, and heat flux is imposed at the interfaces. The velocity and temperature distributions are found analytically, and they are used to compute the entropy generation number and Bejan number. The effects of the couple stress parameter and Reynolds number on the velocity, temperature, entropy generation number, and Bejan number are investigated. It is observed that the friction near the plates in couple stress fluids decreases as the couple stress increases.  相似文献

The magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) graphene-polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) nanofluid flow between two squeezing parallel plates in the presence of thermal radiation effects is investigated. The energy efficiency of the system via the Bejan number is studied extensively. The governing partial differential equations are converted by using the similarity transformations into a set of coupled ordinary differential equations. The set of these converted equations is solved by using the differential transform method (DTM).The entropy generation in terms of the Bejan number, the coefficient of skin-friction, and the heat transfer rate is furthermore investigated under the effects of various physical parameters of interest. The present study shows that the Bejan number, the velocity and thermal profiles, and the rate of heat transfer decrease with a rise in the Deborah number De while the skin-friction coefficient increases. It is also observed that the entropy generation due to frictional forces is higher than that due to thermal effects. Thus, the study bears the potential application in powder technology as well as in biomedical engineering.  相似文献

This paper deals with a steady two-dimensional flow of an electrically conducting incompressible fluid over a porous vertical stretching sheet. The flow is permeated by a uniform transverse magnetic field. The fluid viscosity is assumed to vary as a linear function of temperature. The partial differential equations governing the problem under consideration are transformed by a special form of Lie group transformations, namely, scaling group of transformations, into a system of ordinary differential equations, which are solved numerically using the Runge-Kutta-Gill algorithm and the shooting method. The conclusion is drawn that the flow field and temperature profiles are significantly influenced by the Lewis number, Brownian motion number, and thermophoresis number.  相似文献

An unsteady free convective flow of a viscous fluid past an oscillating plate is considered, and the effects of entropy generation are investigated. The governing partial differential equations are normalized by using suitable transformations, and an exact solution of the problem is obtained by using the Laplace transformation technique. The expressions for the velocity and temperature are then used to compute the skin friction, Nusselt number, local entropy generation number, and Bejan number.  相似文献

The unsteady mixed convection flow of electrical conducting nanofluid and heat transfer due to a permeable linear stretching sheet with the combined effects of an electric field, magnetic field, thermal radiation, viscous dissipation, and chemical reaction have been investigated. A similarity transformation is used to transform the constitutive equations into a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The resultant system of equations is then solved numerically using implicit finite difference method. The velocity, temperature, concentration, entropy generation, and Bejan number are obtained with the dependence of different emerging parameters examined. It is noticed that the velocity is more sensible with high values of electric field and diminished with a magnetic field. The radiative heat transfer and viscous dissipation enhance the heat conduction in the system. Moreover, the impact of mixed convection parameter and Buoyancy ratio parameter on Bejan number profile has reverse effects. A chemical reaction reduced the nanoparticle concentration for higher values.  相似文献

The behavior of an incompressible laminar boundary layer flow over a wedge in a nanofluid with suction or injection has been investigated. The model used for the nanofluid integrates the effects of the Brownian motion and thermophoresis parameters. The governing partial differential equations of this problem, subjected to their boundary conditions, are solved by the Runge-Kutta-Gill technique with the shooting method for finding the skin friction and the rate of heat and mass transfer. The result are presented in the form of velocity, temperature, and volume fraction profiles for different values of the suction/injection parameter, Brownian motion parameter, thermophoresis parameter, pressure gradient parameter, Prandtl number, and Lewis number. The conclusion is drawn that these parameters significantly affect the temperature and volume fraction profiles, but their influence on the velocity profile is comparatively smaller.  相似文献

The main aim of the present work is to investigate the flow and heat transport properties of non-Newtonian Casson-Williamson fluid through an upright microchannel along with entropy generation analysis, and explore the effects of convective boundary conditions, Couette-Poiseuille flow, and nonlinear radiation. The movement of liquid is scrutinized with the Hall effect and exponential heat source. The rheological characteristics of the Casson-Williamson fluid model are also considered. By considering the desirable similarity variables, the equations of motion are reduced to nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg fourth-fifth order method along with the shooting method is adopted to solve these dimensionless expressions. The detailed investigation is pictorially displayed to show the influence of effective parameters on the entropy generation and the Bejan number. One of the major tasks of the exploration is to compare the Casson fluid and the Williamson fluid. The results show that the rate of heat transfer in the Casson fluid is more remarkable than that in the Williamson fluid.  相似文献

The two-dimensional boundary layer flow of an Oldroyd-B fluid in the presence of nanoparticles is investigated. Convective heat and mass conditions are considered in the presence of thermal radiation and heat generation. The Brownian motion and thermophoresis effects are retained. The nonlinear partial differential equations are reduced into the ordinary differential equation (ODE) systems. The resulting ODE systems are solved for the series solutions. The results are analyzed for various physical parameters of interest. Numerical values of the local Nusselt and Sherwood numbers are also computed and analyzed.  相似文献

Thermal conduction which happens in all phases(liquid, solid, and gas) is the transportation of internal energy through minuscule collisions of particles and movement of electrons within a working body. The colliding particles comprise electrons, molecules, and atoms, and transfer disorganized microscopic potential and kinetic energy, mutually known as the internal energy. In engineering sciences, heat transfer comprises the processes of convection, thermal radiation, and sometimes mass transportation.Typically, more than one of these procedures may happen in a given circumstance. We use the Cattaneo-Christov(CC) heat flux model instead of the Fourier law of heat conduction to discuss the behavior of heat transportation.A mathematical model is presented for the Cattaneo-Christov double diffusion(CCDD) in the flow of a non-Newtonian nanofluid(the Jeffrey fluid) towards a stretched surface. The magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) fluid is considered. The behaviors of heat and mass transportation rates are discussed with the CCDD.These models are based on Fourier's and Fick's laws. The convective transportation in nanofluids is discussed, subject to thermophoresis and Brownian diffusions. The nonlinear governing flow expression is first altered into ordinary differential equations via appropriate transformations, and then numerical solutions are obtained through the built-in-shooting method. The impact of sundry flow parameters is discussed on the velocity, the skin friction coefficient, the temperature, and the concentration graphically. It is reported that the velocity of material particles decreases with higher values of the Deborah number and the ratio of the relaxation to retardation time parameter. The temperature distribution enhances when the Brownian motion and thermophoresis parameters increase. The concentration shows contrasting impact versus the Lewis number and the Brownian motion parameter. It is also noticed that the skin friction coefficient decreases when the ratio of the relaxation to retardation time parameter increases.  相似文献

The unsteady laminar magnetohydrodynamics(MHD) boundary layer flow and heat transfer of nanofluids over an accelerating convectively heated stretching sheet are numerically studied in the presence of a transverse magnetic field with heat source/sink. The unsteady governing equations are solved by a shooting method with the Runge-KuttaFehlberg scheme. Three different types of water based nanofluids, containing copper, aluminium oxide, and titanium dioxide, are taken into consideration. The effects of the pertinent parameters on the fluid velocity, the temperature, the entropy generation number, the Bejan number, the shear stress, and the heat transfer rate at the sheet surface are graphically and quantitatively discussed in detail. A comparison of the entropy generation due to the heat transfer and the fluid friction is made with the help of the Bejan number. It is observed that the presence of the metallic nanoparticles creates more entropy in the nanofluid flow than in the regular fluid flow.  相似文献

The present analysis discusses the peristaltic flow of a nanofluid in a diverging tube. This is the first article on the peristaltic flow in nanofluids. The governing equations for nanofluid are modelled in cylindrical coordinates system. The flow is investigated in a wave frame of reference moving with velocity of the wave c. Temperature and nanoparticle equations are coupled so Homotopy perturbation method is used to calculate the solutions of temperature and nanoparticle equations, while exact solutions have been calculated for velocity profile and pressure gradient. The solution depends on Brownian motion number N b , thermophoresis number N t , local temperature Grashof number B r and local nanoparticle Grashof number G r . The effects of various emerging parameters are investigated for five different peristaltic waves. It is observed that the pressure rise decreases with the increase in thermophoresis number N t . Increase in the Brownian motion parameter N b and the thermophoresis parameter N t temperature profile increases. Streamlines have been plotted at the end of the article.  相似文献

Time-dependent, two-dimensional(2 D) magnetohydrodynamic(MHD)micropolar nanomaterial flow over a shrinking/stretching surface near the stagnant point is considered. Mass and heat transfer characteristics are incorporated in the problem. A model of the partial differential expressions is altered into the forms of the ordinary differential equations via similarity transformations. The obtained equations are numerically solved by a shooting scheme in the MAPLE software. Dual solutions are observed at different values of the specified physical parameters. The stability of first and second solutions is examined through the stability analysis process. This analysis interprets that the first solution is stabilized and physically feasible while the second one is un-stable and not feasible. Furthermore, the natures of various physical factors on the drag force, skin-friction factor, and rate of mass and heat transfer are determined and interpreted. The micropolar nanofluid velocity declines with a rise in the suction and magnetic parameters, whereas it increases by increasing the unsteadiness parameter. The temperature of the micropolar nanofluid rises with increase in the Brownian motion, radiation, thermophoresis, unsteady and magnetic parameters, but it decreases against an increment in the thermal slip constraint and Prandtl number. The concentration of nanoparticles reduces against the augmented Schmidt number and Brownian movement values but rises for incremented thermophoresis parameter values.  相似文献

This article is devoted to combined convection heat transfer of nanofluids through a vertical channel filled with a homogeneous and isotropic porous medium. The flow is assumed to be fully developed and the “Brinkman extended Darcy” model is used for the flow in the porous media and “clear compatible” viscous dissipation model is considered. Also the model utilized for the nanofluid incorporates the effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis. The governing momentum, energy, and nanopartices volume fraction equations are solved both analytically and numerically. The effects of the influential dimensionless parameters such as Brownian and thermophoresis parameters, mixed convection parameter (Gr/Re), Brinkman, Darcy and Lewis numbers on dimensionless velocity and temperature distributions and pressure drop are studied. Also, the results of the Nusselt number for the both left and right walls are presented and discussed.  相似文献

Heat transfer characteristics of a two-dimensional steady hydromagnetic natural convection flow of nanofluids over a non-linear stretching sheet taking into account the effects of radiation and convective boundary condition has been investigated numerically. The model used for the nanofluid incorporates the effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis. The local similarity solutions are obtained by using very robust computer algebra software Maple 13. The results corresponding to the dimensionless temperature profiles and the reduced Nusselt number, Sherwood number and skin friction coefficient are displayed graphically for various pertinent parameters. The results show that temperature within the boundary layer is enhanced with the increase of the Biot number, buoyancy due to nanoparticle concentration, strength of the applied magnetic field, Brownian motion parameter, and thermophoresis parameter. An opposite trend is observed for the increase of the buoyancy due to temperature, stretching index, and the radiation parameter. The results also show that the local rate of heat transfer strongly depends on the nonlinear stretching index, radiation parameter, Biot number, Brownian motion parameter, and thermophoresis parameter.  相似文献

The boundary layer flow of a nanofluid past a stretching/shrinking sheet with hydrodynamic and thermal slip boundary conditions is studied. Numerical solutions to the governing equations are obtained using a shooting method. The results are found for the skin friction coefficient, the local Nusselt number, and the local Sherwood number as well as the velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles for some values of the velocity slip parameter, thermal slip parameter, stretching/shrinking parameter, thermophoresis parameter, and Brownian motion parameter. The results show that the local Nusselt number, which represents the heat transfer rate, is lower for higher values of thermal slip parameter, thermophoresis parameter, and Brownian motion parameter.  相似文献

A fully developed steady immiscible flow of nanofluid in a two-layer microchannel is studied in the presence of electro-kinetic effects.Buongiorno’s model is employed for describing the behavior of nanofluids.Different from the previous studies on two-layer channel flow of a nanofluid, the present paper introduces the flux conservation conditions for the nanoparticle volume fraction field, which makes this work new and unique, and it is in coincidence with practical observations. The governing equations are reduced into a group of ordinary differential equations via appropriate similarity transformations. The highly accurate analytical approximations are obtained.Important physical quantities and total entropy generation are analyzed and discussed.A comparison is made to determine the significance of electrical double layer(EDL)effects in the presence of an external electric field. It is found that the Brownian diffusion, the thermophoresis diffusion, and the viscosity have significant effects on altering the flow behaviors.  相似文献

The free convective heat transfer to the power-law non-Newtonian flow from a vertical plate in a porous medium saturated with nanofluid under laminar conditions is investigated. It is considered that the non-Newtonian nanofluid obeys the mathematical model of power-law. The model used for the nanofluid incorporates the effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis. The partial differential system governing the problem is transformed into an ordinary system via a usual similarity transformation. The numerical solutions of the resulting ordinary system are obtained. These solutions depend on the power-law index n, Lewis number Le, buoyancy-ratio number N r, Brownian motion number N b, and thermophoresis number N t. For various values of n and Le, the effects of the influence parameters on the fluid behavior as well as the reduced Nusselt number are presented and discussed.  相似文献

Entropy generation due to fluid flow and heat transfer inside a horizontal channel made of two parallel plates under the effect of transverse magnetic field is numerically investigated. The flow is assumed to be steady, laminar, hydro-dynamically and thermally fully developed of electrically conducting fluid. Both horizontal walls are maintained at constant temperatures higher than that of the fluid. The governing equations in Cartesian coordinate are solved by an implicit finite difference technique. After the flow field and the temperature distributions are obtained, the entropy generation profiles are computed and presented graphically. The factors, which were found to affect the problem under consideration are the magnetic parameter, Eckert number, Prandtl number, and the temperature parameter (θ). It was found that, entropy generation increased as all parameters involved in the present problem increased.  相似文献

The entropy generation and heat transfer characteristics of magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) third-grade fluid flow through a vertical porous microchannel with a convective boundary condition are analyzed. Entropy generation due to flow of MHD non-Newtonian third-grade fluid within a microchannel and temperature-dependent viscosity is studied using the entropy generation rate and Vogel's model. The equations describing flow and heat transport along with boundary conditions are first made dimensionless using proper non-dimensional transformations and then solved numerically via the finite element method(FEM). An appropriate comparison is made with the previously published results in the literature as a limiting case of the considered problem. The comparison confirms excellent agreement. The effects of the Grashof number, the Hartmann number, the Biot number, the exponential space-and thermal-dependent heat source(ESHS/THS) parameters, and the viscous dissipation parameter on the temperature and velocity are studied and presented graphically. The entropy generation and the Bejan number are also calculated. From the comprehensive parametric study, it is recognized that the production of entropy can be improved with convective heating and viscous dissipation aspects. It is also found that the ESHS aspect dominates the THS aspect.  相似文献
