The development and morphology of the immature phases of Spalangia cameroni Perkins, 1910 (Hymenoptera, Pteromalidae) are described from a laboratory rearing culture maintained on Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann, 1824) (Diptera, Tephritidae), using microscopic techniques, including light and scanning electron microscopy. The surface of the chorion of the egg is smooth and the micropyle occurs at the anterior end. The immature larvae are similar to the mature larva, differing mainly in the size of the head capsule and mandibles. The mature larva displays tubercules on the body segments as well as a pleurostoma and superior and inferior mandibular processes. On completion of its larval development, an adecticous and exarate pupa is produced. The mandibles of the pupa, as for the adult, are toothed. Three larval instars are recorded based on statistical analyses of the sizes of the larval mandibles and head capsules, in combination with such characters as the number of exuviae and excretion of the meconium. There are significant positive correlations between mandible length and width of larval head capsule with the number of instars, thus indicating that the mandible length and width of larval capsule are good predictors of the number of instars in this parasitoid. Developmental time from egg to adult emergence was ~33–34 days for females and ~28–29 days for males at 21–26 °C, 55–85 RH and a L16:D8 photoperiod. Our results show that the eggs and different instars of S. cameroni can be unambiguously identified only by SEM. Therefore, characterization of the immature stages of Spalangia species using SEM should be done before subsequent routine identifications using a binocular microscope or stereomicroscope.  相似文献

Mouthparts of adult Megaselia scalaris (Loew), a fly species of medical importance, were examined using scanning electron microscopy. Sexual dimorphism of the labellum was observed in the mouthpart structures of this species. The labella of males were clothed with a dense covering of microtrichia, but these were found to be entirely absent from the labella of females. Aside from this difference, trichoid and conical sensilla that are most likely used as taste or contact chemoreceptors appear on the labellum and labrum of both sexes. In addition, five pairs of sharply pointed teeth at the ventral surface of the labellum is another feature that is shared by the two sexes. A plausible feeding mechanism for this fly is also advanced.  相似文献

A theory of dynamic angle spinning (DAS) and double rotation (DOR) NMR is described using average Hamiltonian and irreducible tensor methods. Sideband intensities in DAS and DOR spectra are analyzed by both the moment and Bessel function methods, and general formulae are derived. Results show that the DAS moments depend on the relative rotor phase between the first and the second evolution periods, whereas the second and third DOR moments are independent of the relative phase between the inner and outer rotors. Sideband intensities in DAS spectra also depend on the relative rotor phases between evolution at the first and second angles, as well as on the ratio of time spent at each angle. Sideband intensities and phases in DOR spectra are related to the relative rotor phases between the inner and outer rotors, and the sideband pattern is determined by the ratio of the inner and outer rotor spinning speeds. An inversion symmetry of the odd numbered DOR sidebands at the relative rotor phase gamma r = 0 degree, 180 degrees permits the elimination of these sidebands. Finally, numerical simulations are implemented and shown to agree with experimental results. Quadrupolar parameters can therefore be recovered either by calculating the second and third moments or by simulating the sideband intensities and phases.  相似文献

Hydrotaea chalcogaster is a fly species of medical and forensic importance in many parts of the world. In this study, we investigated the sensilla of the antenna and palp of the adult female fly using scanning electron microscopy. The antennal scape has one type of sensillum, the sharp-tipped sensillum trichodeum; whereas, the antennal pedicel also possessed this type of sensillum in addition to an unidentified type. Three types of sensilla were found on the flagellum: (1) sensilla basiconica, with both large and small sensilla basiconica showing wall pores, (2) sensilla coeloconica, with a smooth surface, and (3) sensory pits, with wall pores of pegs. The arista is located dorso-laterally on the flagellum and has three segments. Short microtrichia are located around the distal end of its second segment and on the proximal half of the third segment. Both large sharp-tipped sensilla chaetica and small sensilla basiconica with wall pores were observed on the palps. Results of this study contribute to our overall understanding of the ultrastructural morphology of sensilla on the antenna and palp of H. chalcogaster.  相似文献

Background

The fly visual system is a highly ordered brain structure with well-established physiological and behavioral functions. A large number of interneurons in the posterior part of the third visual neuropil, the lobula plate tangential cells (LPTCs), respond to visual motion stimuli. In these cells the mechanism of motion detection has been studied in great detail. Nevertheless, the cellular computations leading to their directionally selective responses are not yet fully understood. Earlier studies addressed the neuropharmacological basis of the motion response in lobula plate interneurons. In the present study we investigated the distribution of the respective neurotransmitter receptors in the fly visual system, namely nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) and GABA receptors (GABARs) demonstrated by antibody labeling.  相似文献

The vector leafhopper Psammotettix striatus (L.) (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae) is an important economic pest that is a serious threat to wheat in Northwest China, causing great losses to agricultural production by transmitting wheat blue dwarf (WBD) in a persistent circulative manner. Studies on morphology and ultrastructure of the digestive system were made using light, scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The gross morphology of the alimentary canal consists of esophagus (foregut), midgut, hindgut, and special filter chamber. The esophagus, a narrow and slender tube, runs through the whole thorax extending into the filter chamber and connecting with the anterior midgut. The midgut consists of three major regions, anterior, middle and posterior midgut. The anterior midgut is composed of exceptionally thick epithelial cells surrounding a large lumen. Numerous well-developed microvilli occur at the basal region of the epithelium. A large number of electron-lucent and lipid-like vesicles are observed under the microvilli. The posterior midgut is smaller than the anterior midgut in diameter. Numerous different concentric circular bodies are characteristic of the posterior midgut. The hindgut arises from the posterior midgut at the boundary of the filter chamber. It extends downward toward the anus where the hindgut enlarges to form the rectum. The rectum is formed by various cells typical of epithelium, whose nuclei are relatively smaller than those of the midgut. Relatively large muscle cells are present at the well-defined and thick basement membrane. There are two pairs of Malpighian tubules. Numerous mitochondria and lamellar rough endoplasmic reticulum in the cells of the anterior segment of the Malpighian tubules; the sub-anterior segment of the tubules resemble the distal segment which are wave-like, amount vesicles in the cells; numerous tightly packed large vesicles contain two types of brochosomes in the inflated segment of the Malpighian tubules. The salivary system of P. striatus contains one pair of salivary glands, which are made up of the principal and accessory gland. The principal glands are divided into anterior, mid- and posterior lobes. About nineteen acini are observed in the principal glands of P. striatus, and vary in structure and colour. Five cellular types are found in the principal glands by transmission electron microscopy, which are rich in secretory granules, modified in size, electron-dense and shape. Rough endoplasmic reticulum in the shape of vesicular and lamellar, mitochondria and Golgi complexes are observed. The accessory gland has only an oval or a rod-shaped acinus.  相似文献

The proventriculus is a specialized part of the foregut in the alimentary canal in some insects, varying greatly in its structure across different insect groups. The ultramorphology of the proventriculus in Mecoptera was investigated in eight species of Panorpidae and one of the Bittacidae using light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The proventriculus consists of the outer circular muscles, the inner longitudinal muscles, an epithelium, and a sclerotized intima with dense acanthae. The proventricular acanthae could be divided into three categories: the anterior acanthae (AA), the main acanthae (MA), and the posterior acanthae (PA). In Panorpidae the AA are rounded in cross section and could be subdivided into two subtypes, the long AA with a polytomy apiculus and the short AA with a V-shaped or spine-like apiculus. The MA, covering the majority of the proventricular inner surface, are dense, uniform, and hollow rectangular structures in cross section with forked apiculi. Each hollow base of the MA was first found to be inserted with a cone-shaped process of the corresponding epithelial cell. The PA are very thin, with a spine-like apiculus. In Bittacidae the proventriculus is specialized by a ring of cuticular thickening within its anterior orifice, and the AA are shaped like a ring of thin spines. Six cardiac valves were observed in Panorpidae and ten in Bittacidae. The functions of the various types of acanthae in digestion and extra-oral digestion and their significance in insect systematics are briefly discussed.  相似文献

The interaction energies as a function of the separation distance between two molecules of CO and between CO and H or O coadsorbed on the Rh(111) surface have been calculated by the Extended Hückel Method. Weak interactions of the order of a few hundredths of eV occur between the adsorbates via the metal lattice. The interaction energy is found to change its signs as the distance between the adsorbates increases. For first neighbor occupation sites the interaction energies are positive. Second and third neighbor interaction energies between CO and CO are, however, negative, the latter being stronger than the former. The interaction energies between CO and H or O are positive for first and second order neighbors and, in general, negative for third order neighbors. The computed interaction energies allow one to explain the observed LEED patterns of adsorbed CO at low temperatures. The compression of the p(2 × 2) LEED structure of CO to the (√3 × √3)R30° structure, induced by the subsequent exposure to hydrogen or oxygen, is explained on the basis of the more favorable interaction energies when CO and H, or CO and 0 are segregated.  相似文献

More than 100 oxygen-adsorbed configurations with oxygen coverage of up to two monolayers (ML) were studied through first-principles calculations. It was found that oxidation proceeds almost laterally. When the coverage exceeds 1.25 ML, oxygen atoms introduced between the second and third layers are captured at a bridging site in the second layer, generating twofold-coordinated Si atoms. Emission of such twofold-coordinated Si atoms leaves weakly bonded Si pairs in the fourth layer. When such pairs happen to be generated close to each other, they transform into a chain of Si trimers with one P(b0) center at each end.  相似文献

The physical content of the three more natural models ofGL(4) gravity is analyzed, for the case of weak fields. The first model we deal with is the linearized version of Yang's onetensor-field gravity. It is shown that this is a scalar-tensor theory, with its scalar part contained in the symmetric tensorh , instead of appearing explicitly, externally to the symmetric tensorh , as happens in Brans-Dicke type of scalar-tensor theories. The second and the third linearized models, which can both be derived from the fourth-order action postulated by Yang, turn out to be two-tensor decoupled systems. In both cases one of the tensors is the symmetric weak metric gravity tensor field. The second tensor appearing in these two models, representing theGL(4)-gauge field, is either a linearized symmetric affinity (in the second model) or a linearized but nonsymmetric affinity (for the third model). It is shown that in these last two cases the affinity contains a helicity-3 propagating field. The connection is also given between the fourth-order system which determines the dynamical structure (for the last two models) of the metric tensor and the third-order Yang model of gravity. Owing to the presence of helicity-3 fields we show that it is better to regard Yang's action as an action for a two-tensor system instead of trying to recover from it a pure gravity (one-tensor-field) action. Finally, it is shown what is the dynamical structure of the second and third linearized two-tensor models which can be derived from Yang's action. On leave of absence from the Universidad Simón Bolívar.  相似文献

Neuron-derived neurotrophic factor (NDNF) is evolutionarily well conserved, being present in invertebrate animals such as the nematode, Caenorhabditis elegans, as well as in the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster. Multiple cysteines are conserved between species and secondary structure prediction shows that NDNF is mainly composed of beta-strands. In this study, we aimed to investigate the function of NDNF.  相似文献

Using both scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), the ommatrichia, or hair-like processes that are located between the facets of the compound eye, were examined on an adult male Megaselia scalaris (Loew) fly. Each ommatrichium was observed to be a tapering structure bearing a longitudinally grooved cuticle and are anchored tightly in flexible sockets. Ultrathin sectioning and TEM revealed a thick wall in the ommatrichia, and their function was proposed to be mechanoreception based on characteristics from both SEM and TEM observations.  相似文献

A surprising metallization of the SiC(0 0 1)-(3 × 2) surface induced by hydrogen adsorption was discovered in recent experiments. The effect was ascribed to dangling bonds created on the third layer of the surface system by H adsorption and stabilized by steric hindrance. We have investigated the surface metallization by density functional calculations. Our total-energy minimizations show that dangling bonds on the third layer are very unstable. Instead, H adatoms form angular Si-H-Si bonds on the third layer after the asymmetric dimers on the top layer have been saturated by H forming monohydrides. The novel Si-H-Si bonds on the third layer give rise to a metallic surface, indeed. But the mechanism for metallization is very different from the one suggested originally. Likewise, H atoms can also occupy bridge positions in angular Si-H-Si bonds on the second layer and induce metallization, as well. In addition to monohydrides on the top-layer dimers, we have also investigated dihydride surfaces with additional H on the second and/or third layer. The dihydride surface structure with H adsorbed on both the second and third layers is energetically most favorable and is also metallic. In all three cases the new Si-H-Si bonds are the origin of the surface metallization while its nature is somewhat more intricate, as will be discussed.  相似文献

The sternal gland is considered the only source of trail pheromones in termites. The morphology of the sternal gland was investigated in workers of Coptotermes gestroi using transmission and scanning electron microscopy. The results showed a small bilobed gland at the anterior part of the fifth abdominal sternite. The cuticular surface of the sternal gland showed a V-shaped structure with two peg sensilla in elevated socket and various campaniform sensilla. Pores and cuticular scale-like protuberances also occur in the glandular area. The ultrastructure showed a gland composed of class 1 cells and two different types of class 3 cells distinguished by location, different size and electron-density of secretory vesicles. Small class 3 cells (type 1) of the anterior lobe are inserted among class 1 cells and have weakly electron-dense vesicles associated with mitochondria, glycogen and smooth endoplasmic reticulum. The class 3 cells (type 2) of posterior lobe showed many round electron-lucent vesicles of secretion, abundant free ribosomes and a well-developed Golgi apparatus. Each class 3 cell is connected to the cuticle by a cuticular duct constituted by the receiving canal and the conducting canal. The secretion of class 1 cells is stored in an inner subcuticular reservoir that is delimited by the microvilli of these cells. This inner reservoir is large and crossed by the campaniform sensilla and ducts of two types of class 3 cells that open outside of the insect body. An exterior reservoir also is present between the fourth and fifth sternite. The complex structure of the sternal gland suggests multicomponents for the trail pheromone in the worker of C. gestroi.  相似文献

Diagnosis of discoid lateral meniscus of the knee on MR imaging   总被引:16,自引:0,他引:16
To establish the quantitative MR diagnostic criteria for discoid lateral meniscus, MR imaging of 60 knees with arthroscopically confirmed discoid lateral menisci and 134 knees with semilunar lateral menisci were analyzed. Following four quantitative parameters were measured. (1) Meniscal width (MW): The minimum meniscal width on the coronal slice. (2) Ratio of the meniscus to the tibia (RMT): The ratio of minimum meniscal width to maximum tibial width on the coronal slice. (3) Percent coverage of the meniscus (PCM): The ratio of the sum of the width of the anterior and posterior horns to the meniscal diameter on the sagittal slice showing the maximum meniscal diameter. (4) Continuity of the anterior and posterior horns (CAPH): The number of consecutive sagittal slices showing continuity between the anterior and posterior horns of the meniscus on the sagittal slice. The cut-off values of each parameter to discriminate between the discoid and semilunar meniscus were calculated based on a univariate logistic regression analysis. The sensitivity and specificity were also calculated for each of 4 parameters and combinations of these parameters. The cut-off value was 15 mm for the MW, 20% for the RMT, 75% for the PCM, and 3 slices for the CAPH. The sensitivity and specificity of the four parameters ranged between 87% and 50% and between 99% and 92%, respectively. The most accurate diagnostic criterion was either the RMT > or = 20% or the PCM > or = 75%, and the sensitivity and specificity were 95% and 97%, respectively, even when torn menisci were included.  相似文献

The adsorption of bismuth on Si(110) surfaces has been studied by means of quadrupole mass spectrometry (QMS), LEED and AES. The existence of three main adsorption states (the first, second and third phases) were observed. Two of them (the first and second phases) are two-dimensional phases and the other (the third phase) is a three-dimensional phase. After the completion of the first phase at a high substrate temperature, the LEED pattern showed a clear Si(110) 2 × 3 structure. A shift of the saturation coverage of the two-dimensional phase with the change of the deposition condition was also observed.  相似文献

The morphology of the antennal funiculus and the external morphological characteristics and distribution of sensilla of blow fly, Protophormia terraenovae, have been studied using light and scanning electron microscopy. Cross section of the funiculus is roughly triangular in shape, with an anterior-medial, anterior-lateral, and posterior surface. The latter presents some large-size pits on restricted lateral and median areas of the proximal funiculus, and several smaller-size ones close to the pedicel-funiculus joint. The entire surface of the antennal sub-segment appears densely populated by microtrichia and is inhabited by seven types of sensilla: one trichoid, two basiconic, one auriculate, one coeloconic, and two basiconic-like pit sensilla. Trichoid, basiconic, auriculate and basiconic-like types display a multiporous wall, a feature characteristic of insect olfactory sensilla. It remains to be verified whether or not the coeloconic structure type has wall pores. The most abundant sensilla are the trichoid ones, which are followed by the basiconic, coeloconic and auriculate types in a decreasing density order. The basiconic-like pit sensilla are present only on the posterior funicular surface, unlike the remaining ones which populate the entire sub-segment. The blow fly' funiculus displays a significant, even though moderate sexual dimorphism, the female sub-segment being bigger and presenting a higher number of trichoid and auriculate sensilla. The presence of multiple wall pores in most of sensilla types implies an olfactory modality for sensory neurons they accomodate, thus indicating that the blow fly' funiculus is a plain olfactory organ.  相似文献

This paper presents comparative experimental studies of the morphology and elemental composition of fly ash particles from coal- and biomass-fired boilers, deposited in each stage of 3-stage electrostatic precipitators (ESPs). It was shown that fly ash morphology, its physical properties, and the percentage of elements in the fly ash taken from each stage of ESP depend on the kind of fuel. The biomass fly ash contains many irregular large particles, which are pieces of unburned wood. Bulk density of biomass fly ash is on average lower than that of coal fly ash, and drastically decreases in the second and third stages of ESP. The resistivity, measured at electric field of 4 kV/cm, of fly ash from biomass-fired boilers is much lower than that from coal, and can be below 102 Ω m, whereas from coal, except the first stage, varies in the range from 107 to 1010 Ω m. The low resistivity of coal fly ash in the first stage of ESP results from high carbon content, and of biomass is probably an effect of additional high percentage of potassium, calcium and sodium sulfates. The percentage of Si, Al, Na, Fe, and Ti in fly ash from coal-fired boilers is much higher than from biomass, and in the opposite, the percentage of Mg, K, Ca, Mn, Mo, S, Cl, and P in biomass ash exceeds that in coal fly ash. Potential detrimental effects of biomass combustion products (salts, acids, tar) leaving the boiler on the construction elements of the electrostatic precipitator, including electrodes and HV insulators have been discussed in this paper. It was concluded that the long-term effects of biomass co-firing on the electrostatic precipitator performance, including the collection efficiency, have not been sufficiently studied in the literature and these issues require further detailed investigations.  相似文献

Antennal sensilla of some forensically important fly species in the families Calliphoridae (Chrysomya megacephala, Chrysomya rufifacies, Chrysomya nigripes and Lucilia cuprina), Sarcophagidae (Parasarcophaga dux) and Muscidae (Musca domestica) were studied using scanning electron microscopy. Five types of sensilla were observed: trichoid, basiconic, coeloconic, styloconic and sensory pit. Only trichoid sensilla are found on the scape of the antenna, while both trichoid and styloconic sensilla are located on the antennal pedicels of all species studied. Basiconic sensilla are the most numerous of the sensilla found on the antennae of both sexes of all fly species studied and are comprised of two subtypes: large and small basiconic sensilla. Coeloconic sensilla are characterized by short pegs, with either grooved or smooth surfaces, that are sunken into deep depressions. No marked difference was observed in the number, morphological structure or distributional pattern of any of the sensilla among the species studied, with the exception of there being more numerous sensory pits detected in female P. dux compared to the other species. The suggested function of each antennal sensillum was based on comparison with results of other investigations on similar sensilla.  相似文献

We study order–disorder transitions in a three-dimensional Ising lattice in which all the spins belonging to the same xy plane have the same degree of disorder, so that the structure can be effectively reduced to a chain of layers. The layers interact with each other up to third neighbours. Employing the mean-field approximation, we find the different configurations that undergo the transition to total disorder in terms of the interaction constants and work out a diagram displaying the possible sequences of modulated phases that can be found when the temperature goes from 0 to the order–disorder transition point. At intermediate temperatures the average values of the spins of the layers for periodic structures are found by solving an equation system. Substitution of these values into the expression of the free energy allows one to determine the most stable structure for each set of interaction constants and for each temperature. The model predicts a transition between two modulated structures with the same wavelength but different unit cells, for suitable values of the interaction constants. The formalism is also applied to substances like UNi2Si2, with only a partial agreement with experiment.  相似文献
