以4-烷基环己基甲酸和4-溴-2,3-二氟苯酚为原料,经格氏、黄鸣龙还原、碘代、芳基硼酸化、Suzuki偶联、威廉姆逊和酯化等反应,合成24种侧向二氟取代联苯类液晶化合物,总收率4.2%~8.7%,产物的分子结构经核磁(1H NMR,13C NMR)、红外和质谱确认。 利用差示扫描量热仪(DSC)和偏光显微镜(POM)对目标化合物进行了液晶性能测试。 结果表明,烷基链的长度不仅影响化合物的熔点和清亮点,还影响液晶相态变化;端烯可以降低化合物的熔点(降低了3.7 ℃),提高清亮点(提高了24.8 ℃),拓宽向列相区间(由54.1 ℃拓宽到82.6 ℃);酯基的引入可以提高清亮点,有助于消除近晶相。 该系列化合物在垂直取向(VA)和平面转换(IPS)显示模式中具有潜在的应用前景。  相似文献

含氟丁烯类液晶是一类新型具有低熔点和较高清亮点的液晶材料。 本文提出了一条新的方法合成关键中间体,采用以3-氟苄氯为起始原料,经Arbuzov、Wittig-Horner、催化氢化、锂化-硼酸化4步反应制备,避免了环己烷的异构化和脱氟副反应。 经过合成优化,总收率由4.5%提高到30%,具备较高的应用价值。 物理性能测试表明,该类化合物在配方中的虚拟清亮点达到127.7 ℃、展区常数K11值高达19.7。 光电测试表明,该类化合物能够缩短10%的液晶总响应时间,与该类化合物粘弹系数小的特点相吻合。 新型含氟丁烯液晶为开发高性能混合液晶提供了新的单体液晶材料。  相似文献

Although discotic liquid crystals are attractive functional materials, their use in electronic devices is often restricted by high melting and clearing points. Among the promising candidates for applications are [15]crown‐5 ether‐based liquid crystals with peripheral n‐alkoxy side chains, which, however, still have melting points above room temperature. To overcome this problem, a series of o‐terphenyl and triphenylene [15]crown‐5 ether derivatives was prepared in which δ‐methyl‐branched alkoxy side chains of varying lengths substitute the peripheral linear alkoxy chains. The mesomorphic properties of the novel crown ethers were studied by differential scanning calorimetry, polarizing optical microscopy, and X‐ray diffraction. δ‐Methyl branching indeed lowers melting points resulting in room‐temperature hexagonal columnar mesophases. The mesophase widths, which ranged from 87 to 30 K for o‐terphenyls, significantly increased to 106–147 K for the triphenylenes depending on the chain lengths, revealing the beneficial effect of a flat mesogen, due to improved π–π interactions.  相似文献

By using three synthetic protocols, a series of fluorocarbon and hydrocarbon N‐heterocyclic imidazole‐based liquid crystals (LCs) and related imidazolium‐based ionic liquid crystals (ILCs) have been prepared. The ring size of the N‐heterocycle and the length of the N‐terminal chain (on the imidazolium unit in the ILCs) were modified, and the influence of these structural parameters on liquid‐crystal phases was investigated by means of polarizing optical microscopy (POM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and X‐ray diffraction (XRD). These new ILCs exhibit a disordered smectic phase (SmA), good thermal stabilities, a broad smectic phase range, a high dipole moment, relatively low melting points, but high clearing points and strong emission fluorescence relative to imidazole‐based LCs. These encouraging results have led us to believe these fluorocarbon and hydrocarbon N‐heterocyclic imidazole‐based LCs and related imidazolium‐based ILCs could be used as new liquid‐crystalline materials.  相似文献

The synthesis is reported of a series of apolar nematic liquid crystals incorporating an alkoxyalkoxy chain attached in a terminal position to the molecular core. The dependence of the mesomorphism and phase transition temperatures on the nature of the terminal chain with one, two or three oxygen atoms was studied. Some compounds with a completely alicyclic molecular core and a terminal 2‐methoxyethoxy chain exhibit a nematic phase with a low melting point, birefringence and viscosity and a relatively high clearing point in the absence of smectic phases. They do not to absorb light in the near UV and may be useful as components of UV‐stable nematic mixtures for use in photoluminescent liquid crystal displays. The presence of the methoxyethoxy chain leads to a relatively large dipole moment perpendicular to the molecular long axis.  相似文献

全氟烃或半氟烃链无手性液晶化合物可能呈现铁电液晶性, 具有较大的学术及应用价值而受到研究人员的重视. 合成了全氟己基苯甲酸联苯酯类液晶化合物: ROC6H4C6H4O2CC6H4C6F13 (3a~3e), C3H7C6H4C6H4O2CC6H4C6F13 (6a)及其烃衍生物. 用差示扫描量热法(DSC)和偏光显微镜(POM)对其介晶性研究发现: 烃衍生物呈有序度较低的向列相, 熔点较高, 清亮点较低, 液晶相较窄. 全氟烃基取代的化合物出现多个有序度较高的近晶相, 熔点较低, 清亮点高, 介晶相温度范围宽.  相似文献

By dividing the bulk melting entropy, a simple thermodynamic model without any adjustable parameter for the size-dependent melting transition temperature has been extended to interpret the melting and freezing transitions of liquid crystals (LCs) confined in nanopores. The results show that as the size of the nanopore decreases, the melting, clearing and freezing transition temperatures of LCs drop. The transition temperatures directly depend on the density of hydrogen bond at the interface between inner pore wall and LC molecules. The model predictions agree well with the corresponding experimental results of LCs p-azoxyanisole and 4-pentyl-4′-cyanobiphenyl confined in nanopores.  相似文献

The synthesis and structural characterization of new liquid‐crystalline compounds containing ferrocene, azo‐aromatic and cholesteryl groups are reported. Taking into account the advantage brought by chirality, ferrocene and azo units, these structures could be good precursors for obtaining materials capable of responding to magnetic and electric fields or to UV‐light exposure. The influence of each structural unit (ferrocene, cholesterol, azo aromatic core and flexible chain length) has been studied by comparing analogous compounds possessing the same structure but without the element being analyzed. Ferrocene is a three‐dimensional bulky unit, so that, regardless of the substituents' nature, this unit could cause steric repulsions with neighboring molecules. These interactions could lead to a decrease of the transition temperature domain. Surprisingly, a decrease in the clearing point was not observed for the compounds discussed. This behavior was possible because ferrocene is connected to the mesogen via a flexible unit. As a consequence, both phenyl analogues and ferrocene derivatives presented liquid‐crystalline properties with similarly high clearing points, but above the thermal stability of derivatives with azo groups. Their melting points depend on the way the molecules are packed, with different crystalline states being detected in the case of ferrocene derivatives. Three series of fluorinated bistolane-type liquid crystals have been synthesized. Their mesomorphic properties were studied by optical polarizing microscopy and DSC. These compounds exhibit only a broad nematic phase with high clearing points, wide phase transition temperatures and low melting points. We report the results of a systematic study of the structure-mesomorphic behaviour relationships of a diverse range of light-emitting liquid crystals, but especially nematic 2,7-disubstituted-9,9-dialkylfluorenes. The dependence of the mesomorphic behaviour and transition temperatures on the nature and length of the terminal chains, the nature, position and number of lateral substituents and the number and nature of aromatic rings with and without heteroatoms in the central core is studied. The results of these studies are used to design polymerizable, light-emitting crystals (reactive mesogens) with a nematic phase having a high clearing point and a melting point below room temperature for facile OLED fabrication.  相似文献

Materials with three phenyl rings were also prepared in an attempt to produce nematic liquid crystals with a high clearing point and a high birefringence. Molecules containing a lateral fluoro substituent were synthesized in order to generate a high positive value of the dielectric anisotropy, a low melting point and no smectic mesophases. New symmetrical and asymmetrical triphenylene-containing discotic liquid crystals with two different peripheral alkyl chains, known as sym-TP(OC6H13)3(OR)3 and asym-TP(OC6H13)3(OR)3, were synthesized. Their thermotropic liquid crystal properties were investigated through polarizing optical microscopy (POM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses. The asyrranetdcal discogens are 2,6,11-rialkoxy-3,7,10-trihexyloxytriphenylenes, with the alkyl chain carbon numbers varying from 3-10, 12, and 14, while the symmetrical compounds are 2,6,10-trialkyloxy-3,7,11-trihexyloxytriphenylene. Two fluoroalkoxy substituted triphenylene discogens, 2,6,10-td(4,4,4-trifluorobutoxy)-3,7,11-trihexyloxytriphenylene and its asymmetrical isomer 2,6,11-tri(4,4,4-trifluorobutoxy)-3,7,10-trihexyloxytdphenylene were prepared. These two compounds show higher melting and clearing points than their alkoxy analogs, which implies that fluorophilic effect exists in the formation and stabilization of discotic columnar mesophase. The triphenylene derivatives TP(OC6H13)3(OR)3 with two different peripheral chains, symmetrically or asymmetrically attached on triphenylene cores, have lower melting points and clearing points than those of the higher symmetrical compounds TP(OR)6 with the same total chain carbon numbers. The mixed-chain-triphenylenes with longer alkoxy chains (n=9,10,12,14) show columnarmesophase at room temperature.  相似文献

Taking into account the importance of thermal stability in the liquid crystals field, the study presents thermal behavior of some cholesteric esters, which differ by the nature of the functional group attached to the cholesteryl unit and the connecting position of the nitro or amino functions to the aromatic ring. The cholesteric esters present liquid crystalline properties, with high melting and clearing points and may be used as intermediates in the synthesis of liquid crystals. Some other kinetic characteristics, such as reaction order (n), activation energy (Ea) and pre-exponential factor (lnA) have been also evaluated. The type of functional units adjacent to the aromatic unit determines thermal stability of the cholesteryl compounds. Groups with a powerful withdrawing effect induce a decreasing of the temperatures at which the material starts to lose mass. An increased thermal stability for the amino esters has been observed, probably because of some intermolecular hydrogen bonds formation.  相似文献

The single gyroid phase as well as the alternating double network gyroid, composed of two alternating single gyroid networks, hold a significant place in ordered nanoscale morphologies for their potential applications as photonic crystals, metamaterials and templates for porous ceramics and metals. Here, we report the first alternating network cubic liquid crystals. They form through self‐assembly of X‐shaped polyphiles, where glycerol‐capped terphenyl rods lie on the gyroid surface while semiperfluorinated and aliphatic side‐chains fill their respective separate channel networks. This new self‐assembly mode can be considered as a two‐color symmetry‐broken double gyroid morphology, providing a tailored way to fabricate novel chiral structures with sub‐10 nm periodicities using achiral compounds.  相似文献

The salt of diethylamine with flufenamic acid forms water structure-enforced ion-pairs. The free energy of ion-pairing was measured and gave ?22,9 kJ/mol. Because of the high pairing energy the salt seems to be nonionic and aggregates in this form to mesomorphic structures. In this amphiphilic “molecule” the carboxylate group together with the bound diethylammoniumion is thought to be the polar head. 19F-NMR investigations of the lamellar mesophases of DEAF show an essential interaction between trifluoromethyl groups and water molecules for the extistence of the liquid crystals. This supports the model of bilayers with incorporated intralamellar waterlayers. These waterlayers shall be stabilized by trifluoromethyl groups. It is suggested that these waterlayers give stability to the amphiphile bilayers. Investigations of the melting and binding of water to the liquid crystals by differential scanning calorimetry show correlations between the bound water and the melting enthalpies of the mesophases. From this it may be concluded that melting of the liquid crystals is a melting of the bound water, i. e. the watermolecules are set free from the hydrate shells of the ion-pairs. This result is also in accordance with the suggested model of bilayers.  相似文献
