The structural, electronic, optical and dynamical properties of CsAu compound in the CsCl(B2) phase were investigated using the density functional theory (DFT) within the generalized gradient approximation (GGA). The calculated lattice constant, static bulk modulus and first-order pressure derivative of the bulk modulus are reported and compared with previous experimental and theoretical calculations. The calculated electronic band structure for this compound is in good agreement with available theoretical and experimental studies. The present band calculation indicates that CsAu compound has an indirect gap at R→X points. Furthermore, the linear photon-energy-dependent dielectric functions have been calculated. For the first time, the electronic structure results are used, within the implementation of a linear-response technique, for calculations of phonon properties.  相似文献

The present paper aims to study the structural, electronic, optical and thermal properties of the boron nitride (BN) and BAs bulk materials as well as the BNxAs1–x ternary alloys by employing the full-potential-linearised augmented plane wave method within the density functional theory. The structural properties are determined using the Wu–Cohen generalised gradient approximation that is based on the optimisation of the total energy. For band structure calculations, both the Wu–Cohen generalised gradient approximation and the modified Becke–Johnson of the exchange-correlation energy and potential, respectively, are used. We investigated the effect of composition on the lattice constants, bulk modulus and band gap. Deviations of the lattice constants and the bulk modulus from the Vegard’s law and the linear concentration dependence, respectively, were observed for the alloys where this result allows us to explain some specific behaviours in the electronic properties of the alloys. For the optical properties, the calculated refractive indices and the optical dielectric constants were found to vary nonlinearly with the N composition. Finally, the thermal effect on some of the macroscopic properties was predicted using the quasi-harmonic Debye model in which the lattice vibrations are taken into account.  相似文献

We have used first-principles calculations to investigate the electronic and optical properties of GaS/GaSe van der Waals heterostructures formed by stacking two-dimensional GaSe and GaSe monolayers. Our findings confirm that the GaS/GaSe heterostructures transform from an indirect to a direct band gap material for the two stackings considered in this study. In addition, we found that the direct band gaps are 1.780 eV and 1.736 eV for AA and AB stacking, respectively. It is observed that the behavior of the optical properties of AA stacking is similar to AB stacking with some differences in details and both heterostructures located in UV range. The refractive index values are 2.21 (AA pattern) and 2.18 (AB pattern) at zero photon energy limit and increase to 2.937 for AA and 2.18 AB patterns and both located in the visible region. More importantly, the GaS/GaSe heterostructures have a variety of extraordinary electronic and optical properties. Accordingly, these heterostructures can be useful for the solar cell, nanoelectronics, and optoelectronic applications.  相似文献

The electronic and geometrical properties of bulk americium and square and hexagonal americium monolayers have been studied with the full-potential linearized augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW) method. The effects of several common approximations are examined: (1) non-spin polarization (NSP) vs. spin polarization (SP); (2) scalar-relativity (no spin-orbit coupling (NSO)) vs. full-relativity (i.e., with spin-orbit (SO) coupling included); (3) local-density approximation (LDA) vs. generalized-gradient approximation (GGA). Our results indicate that both spin polarization and spin orbit coupling play important roles in determining the geometrical and electronic properties of americium bulk and monolayers. A compression of both americium square and hexagonal monolayers compared to the americium bulk is also observed. In general, the LDA is found to underestimate the equilibrium lattice constant and give a larger total energy compared to the GGA calculations. While spin orbit coupling shows a similar effect on both square and hexagonal monolayer calculations regardless of the model, GGA versus LDA, an unusual spin polarization effect on both square and hexagonal monolayers is found in the LDA results as compared with the GGA results. The 5f delocalization transition of americium is employed to explain our observed unusual spin polarization effect. In addition, our results at the LDA level of theory indicate a possible 5f delocalization could happen in the americium surface within the same Am II (fcc crystal structure) phase, unlike the usually reported americium 5f delocalization which is associated with crystal structure change. The similarities and dissimilarities between the properties of an Am monolayer and a Pu monolayer are discussed in detail.  相似文献

TiO2 has been recently used to realize high-temperature ferromagnetic semiconductors. In fact,it has been widely used for a long time as white pigment and sunscreen because of its whiteness, high refractive index, and excellent optical properties. However, its electronic structures and the related properties have not been satisfactorily understood. Here,we use Tran and Blaha’s modified Becke-Johnson(TB-mBJ) exchange potential(plus a local density approximation correlation potential) within the density functional theory to investigate electronic structures and optical properties of rutile and anatase TiO2.Our comparative calculations show that the energy gaps obtained from mBJ method agree better with the experimental results than that obtained from local density approximation(LDA) and generalized gradient approximation(GGA),in contrast with substantially overestimated values from many-body perturbation(GW) calculations. As for optical dielectric functions(both real and imaginary parts),refractive index, and extinction coefficients as functions of photon energy, our mBJ calculated results are in excellent agreement with the experimental curves. Our further analysis reveals that these excellent improvements are achieved because mBJ potential describes accurately the energy levels of Ti 3d states. These results should be helpful to understand the high temperature ferromagnetism in doped TiO2.This approach can be used as a standard to understand electronic structures and the related properties of such materials as TiO2.  相似文献

The structural, electronic and optical properties for fluoro-perovskite NaXF3 (X?=?Ca and Sr) compounds have calculated by WIEN2k code based on full potential linearized augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW) approach within density functional theory (DFT). To perform the total energy calculations, exchange-correlation energy/potential functional has been utilized into generalized gradient approximation (GGA) and local density approximation (LDA). Our evaluated results like equilibrium lattice constants, bulk moduli, and their pressure derivatives are in agreement with the available data. The electronic band structure calculation has revealed an indirect band-gap nature of NaCaF3, while NaSrF3 has direct band gap. Total and partial densities of states confirm the degree of localized electrons in different bands. The optical transitions in NaCaF3 and NaSrF3 compounds were identified by assigning corresponding peaks obtained from the dispersion relation for the imaginary part of the dielectric function. The thermodynamic properties were calculated using quasi-harmonic Debye model to account lattice vibrations. In addition, the influence of temperature and pressure effects was analyzed on bulk modulus, lattice constant, heat capacities and Debye temperature.  相似文献

The structural, elastic, electronic and optical properties of CaXO3 compounds with the cubic perovskites structure have been investigated, by employing a first principles method, using the plane wave pseudo potential calculations (PP-PW), based on the density functional theory (DFT), within the local density approximation (LDA). The elastic constants and their pressure dependence are calculated using the static finite strain technique. We derived the bulk, shear and Young’s moduli for ideal monocrystalline and for polycrystalline CaXO3 aggregates which we have classified as ductile in nature. Band structures reveal that these compounds are indirect energy band gap (R-G) semiconductors; the analysis of the site and momentum projected densities, valence charge density bond length, bond population and Milliken charges, shows that bonding is of covalent–ionic nature. We have found that the elastic constants C11, C12, C44 are in good correlation with the bonding properties. The optical constants, including the dielectric function, optical reflectivity, refractive index and electron energy loss, are calculated for radiation up to 20 eV.  相似文献

We present first principles calculations of structural, electronic and optical properties of ZnS1?xOx in the zinc-blende phase. We employ the full potential linearized augmented plane wave method within the density functional theory in the generalized gradient approximation and Engel–Vosko generalized gradient approximation. Features such as the lattice constant, the bulk modulus and its pressure derivative are reported. The agreement between our calculated results and available experimental and theoretical data is generally good. Direct and indirect energy band gaps as a function of the oxygen composition in the material of interest are presented and discussed. The material under investigation is found to remain a direct band gap semiconductor over all the alloy composition range (0–1). Furthermore, the optical properties such as the dielectric function, the refractive index, the reflectivity and the electron loss energy have also been reported and analysed.  相似文献

Vertically stacked heterostructures have received extensive attention because of their tunable electronic structures and outstanding optical properties. In this work, we study the structural, electronic, and optical properties of vertically stacked GaS-SnS2 heterostructure under the frame of density functional theory. We find that the stacked GaS-SnS2 heterostructure is a semiconductor with a suitable indirect band gap of 1.82 eV, exhibiting a type-II band alignment for easily separating the photo-generated carriers. The electronic properties of GaS-SnS2 heterostructure can be effectively tuned by an external strain and electric field. The optical absorption of GaS-SnS2 heterostructure is more enhanced than those of the GaS monolayer and SnS2 monolayer in the visible light region. Our results suggest that the GaS-SnS2 heterostructure is a promising candidate for the photocatalyst and photoelectronic devices in the visible light region.  相似文献

Full-potential linearized augmented plane wave plus local orbitals (FP-LAPW+lo) method within density functional theory (DFT) has been utilized to calculate structural, electronic and optical properties of Be-doped CdS, CdSe and CdTe compounds with the dopant concentration x in the range 0≤x≤1. For the contribution of exchange-correlation potential, we used Wu-Cohen generalized gradient approximation (GGA) to calculate structural parameters, whereas both Wu-Cohen and Engel-Vosko GGA have been applied to calculate electronic structure of the materials. Only a slight deviation from Vegard's law has been observed for the calculated lattice constants and bulk moduli of the alloys. Structural and chemical factors that affect the band-gap bowing of these semiconductor alloys have been estimated and discussed. Density of states curves and charge density maps have been calculated and analyzed. Lastly, optical properties of both binary and their related ternary alloys have been discussed in terms of the calculated dielectric function. The resultant optical parameters are compared with the available experimental data and other calculations.  相似文献

The structural, mechanical, electronic and optical properties of orthorhombic PtSi and PtGe were investigated using norm-conserving pseudopotentials within the local density approximation in the frame of density functional theory. The calculated lattice parameters and bulk modulus for PtSi and PtGe have been compared with the experimental and theoretical values. The second-order elastic constants were calculated, and the other related quantities such as the Young's modulus, shear modulus, Poisson's ratio, anisotropy factor, sound velocities and Debye temperature have also been estimated. The linear photon-energy dependent dielectric functions and some optical properties such as the energy-loss function, the effective number of valance electrons and the effective optical dielectric constant were calculated. Our structural estimation and some other results are in agreement with the available experimental and theoretical data.  相似文献

First principles calculations were performed in the framework of the density functional theory (DFT) using the Full Potential–Linear Augment Plane Wave method (FP–LAPW) within the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) to predict the structural, electronic, elastic and thermal properties of NiTi2 intermetallic compound. By using the Wien2k all-electron code, calculations of the ground state and electronic properties such as lattice constants, bulk modulus, presure derivative of bulk modulus, total energies and density of states were also included. The elastic constants and mechanical properties such as Poisson’s ratio, Young’s modulus and shear modulus are estimated from the calculated elastic constants of the single crystal. Through the quasi-harmonic Debye model, the preasure and temperature dependences of the linear expansion coefficient, bulk modulus and heat capacity have been investigated. Finally, the Debye temperature has been estimated from the average sound velocity according to the predicted polycrystal bulk properties and from the single crystal elastic constants.  相似文献

The electronic structures of a MoS2 monolayer are investigated with the all-electron first principle calculations based on the density functional theory (DFT) and the spin-orbital couplings (SOCs). Our results show that the monolayer MoS2 is a direct band gap semiconductor with a band gap of 1.8 eV. The SOCs and d-electrons in Mo play a very significant role in deciding its electronic and optical properties. Moreover, electronic elementary excitations are studied theoretically within the diagrammatic self-consistent field theory. Under random phase approximation, it shows that two branches of plasmon modes can be achieved via the conduction-band transitions due to the SOCs, which are different from the plasmons in a two-dimensional electron gas and graphene owing to the quasi-linear energy dispersion in single-layer MoS2. Moreover, the strong optical absorption up to 105 cm-1 and two optical absorption edges I and II can be observed. This study is relevant to the applications of monolayer MoS2 as an advanced photoelectronic device.  相似文献

The crystal structural, electronic, elastic and the thermodynamic properties of RCd are investigated by using the first-principles plane-wave pseudopotential density function theory within the generalized gradient approximation (GGA). The calculated equilibrium lattice parameters for RCd are in good agreement with the available experimental data. Furthermore, the optical properties, namely the dielectric function, refractive index and electron energy loss are reported for radiation up to 30 eV. Finally, the elastic properties, the bulk modulus and the Debye temperature of RCd are given for reference.  相似文献

We have studied the structural, electronic and phonon properties of the YP and YAs compounds in NaCl(B1) and CsCl(B2) structures using the density functional theory within the generalized gradient approximation (GGA). The calculated lattice constants, static bulk modulus, first-order pressure derivative of the bulk modulus and transition pressure are reported and compared with previous calculations. We have carried out the calculations of band structure and density of states (DOS) for YP and YAs. Then, a linear-response approach to the density-functional theory is used to derive the phonon frequencies and DOS in both B1 and B2 structures.  相似文献

We report results of first-principles calculations for the electronic and optical properties under pressure effect of Li2O, Na2O, Ki2O and Rb2O compounds in the cubic antifluorite structure, using a full relativistic version of the full-potential augmented plane-wave plus local orbitals (FP-APW+lo) method based on density functional theory, within the local density approximation (LDA) and the generalized gradient approximation (GGA). Moreover, the alternative form of GGA proposed by Engel and Vosko (GGA-EV) is also used for band structure calculations. The calculated equilibrium lattices and bulk moduli are in good agreement with the available data. Band structure, density of states, and pressure coefficients of the fundamental energy gap are given. The critical point structure of the frequency dependent complex dielectric function is also calculated and analyzed to identify the optical transitions. The pressure dependence of the static optical dielectric constant is also investigated.  相似文献

We have investigated the structural, elastic and electronic properties of the anti-perovskite TlNCa3 using ab initio calculations within the generalized gradient approximation and the local density approximation for the exchange–correlation potential. The lattice constant, bulk modulus, elastic constants and their pressure dependence, energy band structures, density of states and charge density distribution are calculated and analyzed in comparison with the available experimental and theoretical data. The bulk modulus, shear modulus, Young’s modulus, Poisson’s ratio, Lamé’s coefficients, average sound velocity and Debye temperature are numerically estimated for ideal polycrystalline TlNCa3 aggregates in the framework of the Voigt–Reuss–Hill approximation. This is the first theoretical prediction of the elastic constants and their related properties for TlNCa3 that requires experimental confirmation.  相似文献
