We report the magnetocaloric effect in the metamagnetic compound Gd2In obtained from magnetization measurement. Gd2In was previously reported to have two magnetic transitions: (i) a paramagnetic to ferromagnetic transition below 190 K and (ii) a ferromagnetic to an antiferromagnetic state below 105 K. The low temperature antiferromagnetic state is unstable under an applied magnetic field and undergoes metamagnetic transition to a ferromagnetic like state. We observe conventional positive magnetocaloric effect (the magnetic entropy change, ΔSM<0) around 190 K at all applied fields. The magnetocaloric effect is found to be inverse (negative) at low fields around 105 K (ΔSM>0), however it turns positive at higher fields (ΔSM<0). The observed anomaly is found to be related to the field induced transition which drives the system from an antiferromagnetic to a ferromagnetic state.  相似文献

We investigated magnetocaloric effect in La0.45Pr0.25Ca0.3MnO3 by direct methods (changes in temperature and latent heat) and indirect method (magnetization isotherms). This compound undergoes a first-order paramagnetic to ferromagnetic transition with TC=200 K upon cooling. The paramagnetic phase becomes unstable and it transforms into a ferromagnetic phase under the application of magnetic field, which results in a field-induced metamagnetic transition (FIMMT). The FIMMT is accompanied by release of latent heat and temperature of the sample as evidenced from differential scanning calorimetry and thermal analysis experiments. A large magnetic entropy change of ΔSm=−7.2 J kg−1 K−1 at T=212.5 K and refrigeration capacity of 228 J kg−1 are found for a field change of ΔH=5 T. It is suggested that destruction of magnetic polarons and growth of ferromagnetic phase accompanied by a lattice volume change with increasing magnetic field is responsible for the large magnetocaloric effect in this compound.  相似文献

Magnetocaloric effect of MnV1.95Al0.05O4 was studied by the magnetization and heat capacity measurements. MnV1.95Al0.05O4 is a cubic spinel structure with ferromagnetism of second order in nature and performs reversible magnetic entropy around the magnetic transition temperature. The large magnetic entropy changes −ΔSM∼5.2 and 8.2 J/kg K and the adiabatic temperature changes ΔTad∼1.5 and 2.6 K are revealed for the magnetic field changes of 2 and 4 T near the Curie temperature (TC) of 59.6 K, respectively. The relative cooling power (RCP) are about 82.2 and 177.2 J/kg K for magnetic field changes 2 and 4 T, respectively. Compared with the parent compound, although the −ΔSM and ΔTad become smaller, the refrigeration working temperature span and the RCP have been improved.  相似文献

Effect of Fe-substitution on the phase formation, partitioning behaviour of Fe in the co-existing phases, magneto-structural transition, magnetic entropy change and associated hysteresis losses has been investigated in Gd5Si2Ge2 alloy. The virgin alloy crystallizes in monoclinic Gd5Si2Ge2-type phase, while Fe-substituted alloys form mixed monoclinic Gd5Si2Ge2-type and orthorhombic Gd5Si4-type phases. Electron probe microanalysis reveals that Fe does not dissolve in the matrix, but influences the magneto-structural transitions. Magneto-structural characterization of the Fe-containing alloys reveals that the Fe-substitution suppresses the structural transition observed at 273 K in virgin alloy. A maximum magnetic entropy change, ΔSM of 6.5 J/kg-K at 273 K was observed for a field change of 2 T in Gd5Si2Ge2 alloy. The Fe-substituted alloys exhibit lower value of ΔSM but with reduced hysteresis losses.  相似文献

The influence of partial substitution of La by Dy on the magnetocaloric response of (La1−xDyx)0.67Ca0.33Mn0.9V0.1O3, where x=0.03, 0.15 and 0.25 is studied. Rietveld refinement of X-ray diffraction pattern using GSAS method shows that the compounds adopt the orthorhombic structure with Pnma space group. The systematic change in lattice parameters and magnetic phase transition indicates the substitution effect of Dy. From the magnetization isotherms at different temperatures, magnetic entropy change close to their respective transition temperatures (TC) has been evaluated. The maximum value of entropy change near TC is found to be about 4.8 J/kg K at 187.5 K for LCMVDy0.03, 2.45 J/kg K at 107.5 K for LCMVDy0.15 and 2.15 J/kg K at 92.5 K for LCMVDy0.25 at 4 T. Dy addition produces a reduction in TC and in magnitude of the magnetic entropy change. Even though the entropy change decreases with increasing Dy substitution the refrigerant temperature range, ΔT, is found to be 10 K for LCMVDy0.03, 31 K for LCMVDy0.15 and 35 K for LCMVDy0.25 compounds [90%] at 4 T. The field dependence of the magnetic entropy change is also analyzed showing the power law dependence, ΔSMHn where n=0.75(2) for LCMVDy0.03, n=0.80(4) for LCMVDy0.15 and n=0.92(8) for LCMVDy0.25 compounds at their respective transition temperatures. The relative cooling power and its field dependance are also analyzed.  相似文献

The influence of monovalent doping on the magnetocaloric effect (MCE) and refrigerant capacity or relative cooling power (RCP) of Pr0.5Sr0.3M0.2MnO3 (M=Na, Li, K and Ag) materials has been investigated. A large magnetocaloric effect was inferred over a wide range of temperature around the second order paramagnetic–ferromagnetic transition. The maximum magnetic entropy changes (ΔSM) reached 1.8, 2.2, 1.6 and 2.1 J/kg K and the relative cooling power (RCP) approached 58.9, 59.3, 69.6 and 54.6 J/kg for Na, Li, K and Ag doped materials in the magnetic change of 15 kOe, respectively. According to the results determined by the Maxwell relation, the magnetic entropy change fits well with the Landau theory of phase transition above TC for Pr0.5Sr0.3Li0.2MnO3. The large magnetic entropy change induced by low magnetic field suggested that these materials are beneficial for practical applications.  相似文献

The Gd60Co26Al6Ge8 alloy has been prepared by the copper-mold suck-casting and its phase component has been investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). It is shown that this alloy consists of primary crystalline Gd5Ge3 phase and amorphous matrix. The glass transition temperature (Tg) and crystallization temperatures (Tx) occur at 292 and 320 °C, respectively. The maximal magnetic entropy change (ΔSM) under 0-5 T field is about 7.6 J (kg−1 K−1) at 155 K and the refrigeration capacity (RC) is about 768 J kg−1, which makes Gd60Co26Al6Ge8 bulk metallic glass matrix composite a promising candidate for magnetic refrigerant.  相似文献

Ni-rich Heusler alloys Ni52Mn48−xInx (x=15.5, 16 and 16.5) were prepared by the arc melting method. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that the martensite has orthorhombic structure (S.G. Pmm2) at room temperature. The only alloy with x=15.5 has structural transmission from martensite to austenite without any magnetic transmission. The temperature dependence and the field dependence of the magnetization measurement indicated that the magnetization increased with the decreasing of the concerntration of Mn. The lesser the Mn atoms located in the In atom sites, the weaker the total AFM interaction in the system. Giant entropy changes ΔSM(T, H) were found in Ni52Mn48−xInx alloys with the maximum ΔSM value of 22.3 J kg K for the sample with x=16.5 at 270 K under the magnetic field change of 1.5 T.  相似文献

The structures and magnetocaloric effects of (Gd1−xTbx)Co2 (x=0, 0.25, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, and 1) pseudobinary compounds were investigated by X-ray powder diffraction and magnetic properties measurement. The results show that the Tc of the alloy is near room temperature when X=0.6. The magnetic entropy changes of the compounds increase from 1.7 to 3.6 J/kg K with increasing the content of Tb under an applied field up to 2 T. All the compounds exhibit second order magnetic change. As a result, the values of their ΔSM are lower than that of some large magnetocaloric effect materials.  相似文献

A study of the half-metallic character of the semi Heusler alloys Co1−xCuxMnSb (0?x?0.9) is presented. We investigated the saturation magnetization MS at temperatures from 5 K to room temperature and the temperature dependence of the DC magnetic susceptibility χ above Curie temperature TC. The magnetic moments at 5 K, for most compositions are very close to the quantized value of 4 μB for Mn3+ ion, the compound with 90% Co substituted by Cu is still ferromagnetic with MS (5 K)=3.78 μB/f.u. These results emphasize the role of Co atoms in maintaining the ferromagnetic order in the material. The Curie temperature is decreased from 476 K to about 300 K as the Cu content increases from 0% to 90%. Above TC, the χ−1 vs T curves follow very well the Curie–Weiss law. The effective moment μeff and paramagnetic Curie temperature θ are derived. A comparison between the values of MS at 5 K and μeff shows a transition from localized to itinerant spin system in these compounds.  相似文献

The magnetocaloric effect and thermal stability have been investigated on the new bulk metallic glass (BMG) Gd52.5Co16.5Al31 alloy. The extent of supercooled liquid region is 70 K, which is wider than that of any other Gd-Co-Al ternary BMGs. The magnetic entropy change (ΔSM) and relative cooling power (RCP) of 9.8 J/kg K and 9.1×102 J/kg are obtained, respectively, under a field change of 5 T. The large ΔSM and RCP values make Gd52.5Co16.5Al31 BMG attractive potential candidate for the magnetic refrigeration application.  相似文献

Ferromagnetic shape memory alloy with nominal composition Co37Ni34Al29 is investigated by transport and magnetic measurements. The anomaly due to the martensitic transition is observed around 130-210 K. The thermal hysteresis, observed due to martensitic transition in the dc magnetization versus temperature data, gets suppressed at higher applied field. Below 50 K, magnetization varies with temperature perfectly as T3/2, which signifies that spin wave excitations are largely responsible for thermal demagnetization. The sample shows small negative magneto-resistance, which varies non-monotonically with temperature showing largest value at around 200 K.  相似文献

Magnetization and neutron diffraction studies have been performed on Ce4Sb3 compound (cubic Th3P4-type, space group I4¯3d, no. 220). Magnetization of Ce4Sb3 reveals a ferromagnetic transition at ∼5 K, the temperature below which the zero-field-cooled and field-cooled magnetization bifurcate in low applied fields. However, a saturation magnetization (MS) value of only ∼0.93μB/Ce3+ is observed at 1.8 K, suggesting possible presence of crystal field effects and a paramagnetic/antiferromagnetic Ce3+ moment. Magnetocaloric effect in this compound has been computed using the magnetization vs. field data obtained in the vicinity of the magnetic transition, and a maximum magnetic entropy change, −ΔSM, of ∼8.9 J/kg/K is obtained at 5 K for a field change of 5 T. Inverse magnetocaloric effect occurs at ∼2 K in 5 T indicating the presence of antiferromagnetic component. This has been further confirmed by the neutron diffraction study that evidences commensurate antiferromagnetic ordering at 2 K in zero magnetic field. A magnetic moment of ∼1.24μB/Ce3+ is obtained at 2 K and the magnetic moments are directed along Z-axis.  相似文献

The effects of Al substitution on the phase transitions and magnetocaloric effect of Ni43Mn46Sn11−xAlx (x=0-2) ferromagnetic shape memory alloys were investigated by X-ray diffraction and magnetization measurements. With the increase of Al content, the cell volume decreases due to the smaller radius of Al, and the martensitic transformation temperature increases rapidly, while the Curie temperature of austenitic phase shows a small increase. A large positive and a negative magnetic entropy change were observed near the first-order martensitic transition and the second-order magnetic transition, respectively. The magnetic entropy changes, hysteresis behavior, and refrigerant capacity near the two transitions are compared.  相似文献

The thermomagnetic behaviour (within the temperature range 553-300 K) for the bulk composite Nd60Fe30Al10 alloy is described in terms of a transition from paramagnetic to superferromagnetic state at T=553 K, followed by a ferromagnetic ordering for T<473 K. For the superferromagnetic regime, the alloy thermomagnetic response was associated to a homogeneous distribution of magnetic clusters with mean magnetic moment and size of 1072 μB and 2.5 nm, respectively. For T<473 K, a pinning model of domain walls described properly the alloy coercivity dependence with temperature, from which the domain wall width and the magnetic anisotropy constant were estimated as being of ≈8 nm and ≈105 J/m3, typical values of hard magnetic phases. Results are supported by microstructural and magnetic domain observations.  相似文献

The La0.67Sr0.33MnO3 composition prepared by sol-gel synthesis was studied by dc magnetization measurements. A large magnetocaloric effect was inferred over a wide range of temperature around the second-order paramagnetic-ferromagnetic transition. The change of magnetic entropy increases monotonically with increasing magnetic field and reaches the value of 5.15 J/kg K at 370 K for Δμ0H=5 T. The corresponding adiabatic temperature change is 3.3 K. The changes in magnetic entropy and the adiabatic temperature are also significant at moderate magnetic fields. The magnetic field induced change of the specific heat varies with temperature and has maximum variation near the paramagnetic-ferromagnetic transition. The obtained results show that La0.67Sr0.33MnO3 could be considered as a potential candidate for magnetic refrigeration applications above room temperature.  相似文献

Melt spun Ni50−xMn37+xIn13 (2≤x≤5) ribbons were investigated for the structure, microstructure, magneto-structural transitions and inverse magnetocaloric effect (IMCE) associated with the first-order martensitic phase transition. The influence of excess Mn in Ni site (or Ni/Mn content) on the martensite transition and the associated magnetic and magnetocaloric properties are discussed. It was found that with the increase in Mn content, the martensitic transition shifted from 325 to 240 K as x is varied from 2 to 4, and the austenite phase was stabilized at room temperature. The x=5 ribbon did not show the martensitic transition. For the x=3 ribbon, the structural and magnetic transitions are close together unlike in the x=4 ribbon in which they are far (∼60 K) apart. The zero field cooled and field cooled curves support the presence of exchange bias blocking temperature due to antiferromagnetic interactions in the ribbons. A large change in the magnetization between the martensite and austenite phases was observed for a small variation in the Ni/Mn content, which resulted in large IMCE. A large positive magnetic entropy change (ΔSM) of 32 J/kg K at room temperature (∼ 300 K) for a field change of 5 T with a net refrigeration capacity of 64 J/kg was obtained in the Ni47Mn40In13 ribbon.  相似文献

The effects of introducing Ce and C atoms on the Curie temperature (TC), the magnetic entropy change (ΔSM) and the hysteresis loss have been investigated in the NaZn13-type LaFe11.5Si1.5 compound. Partial replacement of La with Ce leads to a decrease in TC and an increase in ΔSM; however, the introduction of interstitial C atoms can adjust TC to high temperature. The itinerant-electron metamagnetic transition is weakened after carbonization, which results in a reduction of both the hysteresis loss and magnetocaloric effect (MCE). The maximum value of ΔSM for La0.8Ce0.2Fe11.5Si1.5C0.2 is found to be −28 J/kg K at TC=207 K with an effective refrigeration capacity of 420 J/kg for a field change from 0 to 5 T. Our study reveals that the enhancements of both TC and MCEs can be achieved simultaneously in the La1−xCexFe11.5Si1.5Cy compounds by adjusting the concentrations of Ce and C atoms appropriately.  相似文献

We have studied the effect of Fe substitution on magnetic and magnetocaloric properties in La0.7Sr0.3Mn1−xFexO3 (x=0.05, 0.07, 0.10, 0.15, and 0.20) over a wide temperature range (T=10-400 K). It is shown that substitution by Fe gradually decreases the ferromagnetic Curie temperature (TC) and saturation magnetization up to x=0.15 but a dramatic change occurs for x=0.2. The x=0.2 sample can be considered as a phase separated compound in which both short-range ordered ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic phases coexist. The magnetic entropy change (−ΔSm) was estimated from isothermal magnetization curves and it decreases with increase of Fe content from 4.4 J kg−1 K−1 at 343 K (x=0.05) to 1.3 J kg−1 K−1 at 105 K (x=0.2), under ΔH=5 T. The La0.7Sr0.3Mn0.93Fe0.07O3 sample shows negligible hysteresis loss, operating temperature range over 60 K around room temperature with refrigerant capacity of 225 J kg−1, and magnetic entropy of 4 J kg−1 K−1 which will be an interesting compound for application in room temperature refrigeration.  相似文献

Single-phase polycrystalline samples of La0.7Sr0.3Mn1-xCrxO3 with nominal composition of x=0.00, 0.20, 0.40 and 0.50 were prepared by a conventional solid-state reaction method in air. Investigations of magnetization were carried out in the temperature range 5-400 K and magnetic field range 0-8 T. It was found that the Curie temperature TC decreases with increasing x and the maximum magnetic entropy change (−ΔSM) for x=0.20 is ∼1.203 and ∼2.653 J/kg K, respectively for 2 and 6 T magnetic field near the temperature of 280 K.  相似文献
