The compositions of the lipids and fatty acids of the seeds ofCynoglossum officinale, familyBoraginaceae have been established. The bulk of the lipids consisted of netural compounds (95.2%), while the amounts of glycolipids and phospholipids were 3.1 and 1.7%, respectively. Among the fatty acids, in addition to the usual components, acids characteristic for theBoraginaceae family have been found: 18:3 (6, 9, 12), 18:3 (9, 12, 15), 18:4 (6, 9, 12, 15), 20:1 (11), 22:1 (13), and 24:1 (15).Institute of the Chemistry of Plant Substances, Uzbek Academy of Sciences, Tashkent. The structures of fatty monohydroxy acids of the lipids of the seeds ofGaleopsis bifida Boenn. have been studied by the methods of chromatographic, spectral, and chemical analysis. (31) Acids with chain lengths of from 14 to 20 carbon atoms, with from 0 to 3 double bonds, and with the hydrolyls in positions characteristic for the products of the direct hydroxylation and the lipoxygenase and photosensitized oxidation of unsaturated fatty acids were detected. Of them, the 13-OH-9Z, 11E-17:2, the 15-OH-9, 12-18:2, the 16-OH-9, 12-18:2, and 17-OH-11, 14-20:2 acids were new, while this is the first time that the 15-OH-9Z, 12Z, 16E-18:3 acid has been described as a natural compound. Summary The qualitative and quantitative compositions of the neutral lipids and the fatty-acid composition of the individual classes of neutral lipids isolated from fresh, freeze-dried, and air-dry cells of the algaChlorella vulgaris have been investigated.The presence of natural fatty acid methyl esters in the lipid extract of the fresh and air-dry chlorella cells has been established.It has been shown that the fatty acid methyl ester fraction is enriched with palmitic acid as compared with the triglyceride and free fatty acid fractions.The main unsaturated acids of the chlorella lipids contain the first double bond in the 9 position.Division of Microbiology of the Academy of Sciences of the Uzbek SSR, Tashkent. Summary Six bases have been isolated from the leaves of the plantZiziphus jujuba Mill. family Rhamnaceae, cultivated in Tashkent: coclaurine, which has been isolated previously, and isoboldine, norisoboldine, asimilobine, which have been isolated for the first time, and the new juziphine and juzirine. Summary The seeds of the resin-bearing plantPrangos pabularia Lindl. contain 17–19% of a complex mixture of substances extractable with petroleum ether, including 6.54% of fatty oil. A petroleum ether extract ofGlycyrrhiza glabra L. roots was investigated. The extract contains 70% neutral lipids and 30% polar lipids. Hydrocarbons, sterols esters, triacylglycerols, free fatty acids, free sterols, and diacylglycerols were identified. The fatty acid contents of all of the acyl-containing lipids were determined. Summary A new keto hydroxy acid (I) C18H30O6 has been isolated from the fatty oil of the seeds ofSambucus nigra in an amount of 2% of the total fatty acids. The lipids of the seeds and of extracts of the leaves and flowers ofCalendula officinalis L., fam. Asteraceae, have been analyzed. The amount of neutral lipids in the seeds was 15.7%, that of phospholipids 0.6%, and that of glycolipids 0.9%. Summary The fatty-acid and triglyceride compositions of the oils of the seeds of four species of Central Asian representatives of the family Caprifoliaceae have been studied. A great diversity of the fatty acids in the oil ofSambucus nigra has been established; this differs from the other oils studied by a high content of linolenic acid (more than 30%). It has been shown that the distribution of the acyl radicals in the triglycerides corresponds to the law of random distribution. Summary The oil of the seeds ofRindera oblongifolia, family Boraginaceae, growing in Central Asia, has been studied for the first time. Among the acids of the triglycerides of the oil five types of monoenoic acid differing by the length of the carbon chain but having the same length of the terminal carbon chain — 18:19, 20:111, 22:113, 24:115, and 26:117 — have been detected for the first time.
