Summary The equation to be considered is of the form (1) x(n)(t)+p(t)x(g(t))=0 (t>a), where =±1, p(t) > 0 for ta and g(t) as t. It is well- known that a nonoscillatory solution x(t) of (1) satisfies (2) x(t)x(i)(t)>0 (0il), (–1)i–lx(t)x(i)(t)>0 (lin) for some integer l, 0ln, (–1)n–l–1=1. In this paper, for a given l such that 0n–l–1=1, necessary conditions and sufficient conditions are found for (1) to have a solution x(t) which satisfies (2), and a necessary and sufficient condition is established in order that for every >0 the equation x(n)(t)+p(t)x(g(t))=0 (t>a) has a solution x(t) which satisfies (2). We study the subgroups of the full linear group GL(n, R) over a Dedekind ring R that contain the group of quasidiagonal matrices of fixed type with diagonal blocks of at least third order, each of which is generated by elementary matrices. For any such subgroup H there exists a unique D-net of ideals of R such that, where E() is the subgroup generated by all transvections of the net subgroup G(). and is the normalizer of G(). The subgroup E() is normal in. To study the factor group we introduce an intermediate subgroup F(), E() F() G(). The group is finite and is connected with permutations in the symmetric group. The factor group G()/F() is Abelian — these are the values of a certain determinant. In the calculation of F()/E() appears the SK1-functor. The fundamental result: for an arbitrary bounded, simply connected domain in , the subspace Ln,m p() of the space Lp(, ) ( is the plane Lebesgue measure, p 1), consisting of the (m, n)-analytic functions in , is complemented in LP(, ) (a function f is said to be (m, n)-analytic if (m+n/¯ZmZn)f=0 in ). Consequently, by virtue of a theorem of J. Lindenstrauss and A. Pelczyski, the space Ln,m P() is linearly homeomorphic to lP. Using van der Corput-type estimates for trigonometrical sums, we prove that there exist infinitely many squares of the form [x] with natural x; actually, we give an asymptotic formula for the number of natural numbers x]=y2 for some natural y. Furthermore, for every natural number d, the (Pell-like) equation [x]–dy2=1 has infinitely many solutions in natural numbers x and y · Also, every natural number n>n() can be written (in many ways) as n=[x]+y2 with natural x and y. Instead of squares we study integer-valued polynomials of degree at least two.

Therefore, we use the associated Dirichlet form and a sequence of approximating processes already used by Pardoux and R. Williams in [23]. Under mild conditions on the boundary ofD (finite Minkowski content), we prove that Q s is the law of a semi-martingale and provide its decomposition. We show that a pointwise convergent sequence ( n) nN of continuous collineations of a compact projective plane converges uniformly if and only if the pointwise limit of ( n) nN has a quadrangle in its image. Moreover is then a continuous collineation.
