The p-median problem has been widely studied in combinatorial optimisation, but its generalisation to the capacitated case has not. We propose a branch and price algorithm, comparing it with a standard MIP solver and a branch and bound algorithm based on Lagrangean relaxation. We present computational experience, using test instances drawn from the literature and new instances with higher ratio between the number of medians p and the number of nodes N. The branch and price algorithm shows very good performances and computational time robustness in solving problems for any ratio.Received: December 2002, Revised: August 2003AMS classification: 90C10, 90C27  相似文献

In this paper we propose heuristic algorithms for the capacitated p-median problem. In the first one solutions are obtained with Scatter Search whereas the second algorithm uses Path Relinking. A third approach that combines Path Relinking with Scatter Search is also analyzed. The GRASP methodology is used to generate the initial Reference Set both for Scatter Search and Path Relinking. Computational experiments have been carried out with different data sets in order to evaluate the performance of the approaches. In general, Scatter Search outperforms Path Relinking, but the use of Path Relinking prior to Scatter Search has shown to enhance the performance of Scatter Search, specially in terms of the computation times required, due to the improvement of the initial Reference Set. The obtained results, that have been compared with previous approaches, show the efficiency of the methods both in terms of the quality of the solutions found and of the required computation times, even for very large instances.  相似文献

This paper presents a genetic algorithm for solving capacitated vehicle routing problem, which is mainly characterised by using vehicles of the same capacity based at a central depot that will be optimally routed to supply customers with known demands. The proposed algorithm uses an optimised crossover operator designed by a complete undirected bipartite graph to find an optimal set of delivery routes satisfying the requirements and giving minimal total cost. We tested our algorithm with benchmark instances and compared it with some other heuristics in the literature. Computational results showed that the proposed algorithm is competitive in terms of the quality of the solutions found.  相似文献

In the capacitated p-median problem with single source constraint, also known as the capacitated clustering problem, a given set of n weighted points is to be partitioned into p clusters such that the total weight of the points in each cluster does not exceed a given cluster capacity. The objective is to find a set of p centres that minimizes the total scatter of points allocated to these clusters. In this paper, a (λ, μ)-interchange neighbourhood based on the concept of λ-interchange of points restricted to μ-adjacent clusters is proposed. Structural properties of centres are identified and exploited to derive special data structures for their efficient evaluations. Different search and selection strategies including the variable neighbourhood search descent with respect to μ-nearest points are investigated. The most efficient strategies are then embedded in a guided construction search metaheuristic framework based either on a periodic local search procedure or a greedy random adaptive search procedure to solve the problem. Computational experience is reported on a standard set of benchmarks. The computational experience demonstrates the competitive performance of the proposed algorithms when compared to the best-known procedures in the literature in terms of solution quality and computational requirement.  相似文献

This paper provides a new idea for approximating the inventory cost function to be used in a truncated dynamic program for solving the capacitated lot-sizing problem. The proposed method combines dynamic programming with regression, data fitting, and approximation techniques to estimate the inventory cost function at each stage of the dynamic program. The effectiveness of the proposed method is analyzed on various types of the capacitated lot-sizing problem instances with different cost and capacity characteristics. Computational results show that approximation approaches could significantly decrease the computational time required by the dynamic program and the integer program for solving different types of the capacitated lot-sizing problem instances. Furthermore, in most cases, the proposed approximate dynamic programming approaches can accurately capture the optimal solution of the problem with consistent computational performance over different instances.  相似文献

Setup operations are significant in some production environments. It is mandatory that their production plans consider some features, as setup state conservation across periods through setup carryover and crossover. The modelling of setup crossover allows more flexible decisions and is essential for problems with long setup times. This paper proposes two models for the capacitated lot-sizing problem with backlogging and setup carryover and crossover. The first is in line with other models from the literature, whereas the second considers a disaggregated setup variable, which tracks the starting and completion times of the setup operation. This innovative approach permits a more compact formulation. Computational results show that the proposed models have outperformed other state-of-the-art formulation.  相似文献

This paper proposes a new crossover operator called two-part chromosome crossover (TCX) for solving the multiple travelling salesmen problem (MTSP) using a genetic algorithm (GA) for near-optimal solutions. We adopt the two-part chromosome representation technique which has been proven to minimise the size of the problem search space. Nevertheless, the existing crossover method for the two-part chromosome representation has two limitations. Firstly, it has extremely limited diversity in the second part of the chromosome, which greatly restricts the search ability of the GA. Secondly, the existing crossover approach tends to break useful building blocks in the first part of the chromosome, which reduces the GA’s effectiveness and solution quality. Therefore, in order to improve the GA search performance with the two-part chromosome representation, we propose TCX to overcome these two limitations and improve solution quality. Moreover, we evaluate and compare the proposed TCX with three different crossover methods for two MTSP objective functions, namely, minimising total travel distance and minimising longest tour. The experimental results show that TCX can improve the solution quality of the GA compared to three existing crossover approaches.  相似文献

The capacitated vehicle routing problem with stochastic demands (CVRPSD) is a variant of the deterministic capacitated vehicle routing problem where customer demands are random variables. While the most successful formulations for several deterministic vehicle-routing problem variants are based on a set-partitioning formulation, adapting such formulations for the CVRPSD under mild assumptions on the demands remains challenging. In this work we provide an explanation to such challenge, by proving that when demands are given as a finite set of scenarios, solving the LP relaxation of such formulation is strongly NP-Hard. We also prove a hardness result for the case of independent normal demands.  相似文献

The multi-stage capacitated lot sizing and loading problem (MCLSLP) deals with the issue of determining the lot sizes of product items in serially-arranged manufacturing stages and loading them on parallel facilities in each stage to satisfy dynamic demand over a given planning horizon. It is assumed that regular time capacity decisions have already been made in the tactical level and allocated to the stages, but it is still an important decision problem whether to augment regular time capacity by overtime capacity. Each item may be processed on a technologically feasible subset of existing facilities with different process and setup times on each facility. Since the solution of the MCLSLP requires the design of a powerful algorithm, simulated annealing (SA) and genetic algorithms (GA) are integrated to enhance their individual performances. Furthermore, these global optimisation methods are incorporated into a Lagrangean relaxation scheme, hence creating a hybrid solution methodology. Numerical results obtained using these methods confirm the mutual benefits of integrating different solution techniques.  相似文献

Heuristic concentration (HC) is a two-stage metaheuristic that can be applied to a wide variety of combinatorial problems. It is particularly suited to location problems in which the number of facilities is given in advance. In such settings, the first stage of HC repeatedly applies some random-start interchange (or other) heuristic to produce a number of alternative facility configurations. A subset of the best of these alternatives is collected and the union of the facility sites in them is called a concentration set (CS). Among the component elements of the CS are likely to be included those sites which are members of the optimal solution. In earlier studies the second stage of HC has consisted of an exact procedure to extract the best possible solution from the CS. In this paper we demonstrate, for the p-median problem, the use of two sequentially active heuristics in the second stage of HC. That is, we offer two additional layers of heuristics to improve solutions which are found in the first stage of HC. Thus we are describing a variant of the HC metaheuristic consisting of three layers of heuristics which are utilized in sequence. We propose for this procedure the name of Gamma Heuristic.  相似文献

Recently proved successful for variants of the vehicle routing problem (VRP) involving time windows, genetic algorithms have not yet shown to compete or challenge current best search techniques in solving the classical capacitated VRP. A new hybrid genetic algorithm to address the capacitated VRP is proposed. The basic scheme consists in concurrently evolving two populations of solutions to minimize total travelled distance using genetic operators combining variations of key concepts inspired from routing techniques and search strategies used for a time variant of the problem to further provide search guidance while balancing intensification and diversification. Results from a computational experiment over common benchmark problems report the proposed approach to be very competitive with the best-known methods.  相似文献

For more than two machines, and when preemption is forbidden, the computation of minimum makespan schedules for the open-shop problem is NP-hard. Compared to the flow-shop and the job-shop, the open-shop has free job routes which lead to a much larger solution space, to smaller gaps between the optimal makespan and the lower bounds, and to disappointing results for the algorithms based on the disjunctive graph model. For instance, the best existing branch and bound method cannot solve some 7 ×7 hard instances to optimality, and all published metaheuristics (working by reversing some disjunctions already fixed) do not better than some greedy or steepest-descent heuristics which need a much smaller computational effort. In this context, the intrinsic parallelism of genetic algorithms (GAs) seems well adapted, for detecting global optima disseminated among many quasi-optimal schedules. This paper presents several GAs for the open-shop problem. It is shown that even simple and fast versions can compete with the best known heuristics and metaheuristics, thanks to two key-features: a population in which each individual has a distinct makespan, and a special procedure which reorders every new chromosome. Using problem-specific heuristics, it is possible to design more powerful GAs which give excellent results, even on the hardest benchmarks of the literature: for instance, all hard open instances from Taillard are broken, except one for which the best known solution is improved.  相似文献

We introduce the compounded genetic algorithm. We propose to run a quick genetic algorithm several times as Phase 1, and compile the best solutions in each run to create a starting population for Phase 2. In this paper we propose a fuzzy version of the classical p-median problem. We consider a fuzzy set of constraints so that the decision-maker will be able to take into account solutions which provide significantly lower costs by leaving a part of the demand uncovered. We propose an algorithm for solving the problem which is based on Hakimi's works and we compare the crisp and the fuzzy approach by means of an example.  相似文献

The obnoxious p-median (OpM) problem is the repulsive counterpart of the ore known attractive p-median problem. Given a set I of cities and a set J of possible locations for obnoxious plants, a p-cardinality subset Q of J is sought, such that the sum of the distances between each city of I and the nearest obnoxious site in Q is maximised. We formulate (OpM) as a {0,1} linear programming problem and propose three families of valid inequalities whose separation problem is polynomial. We describe a branch-and-cut approach based on these inequalities and apply it to a set of instances found in the location literature. The computational results presented show the effectiveness of these inequalities for (OpM). The crossover operator is the most innovative and relevant operator in real-coded genetic algorithms. In this work we propose a new strategy to improve the performance of this operator by the creation of virtual parents obtained from the population parameters of localisation and dispersion of the best individuals. The idea consists of mating these virtual parents with individuals of the population. In this way, the offspring are created in the most promising regions. This strategy has been incorporated into several crossover operators. After analysing the results we can conclude that this strategy significantly improves the performance of the algorithm in most problems analysed.  相似文献

Modifications in crossover rules and localization of searches are suggested to the real coded genetic algorithms for continuous global optimization. Central to our modifications is the integration of different crossover rules within the genetic algorithm. Numerical experiments using a set of 50 test problems indicate that the resulting algorithms are considerably better than the previous version considered and offer a reasonable alternative to many currently available global optimization algorithms, especially for problems requiring ‘direct search type’ methods.  相似文献

The capacitated lot sizing and loading problem (CLSLP) deals with the issue of determining the lot sizes of product families/end items and loading them on parallel facilities to satisfy dynamic demand over a given planning horizon. The capacity restrictions in the CLSLP are imposed by constraints specific to the production environment considered. When a lot size is positive in a specific period, it is loaded on a facility without exceeding the sum of the regular and overtime capacity limits. Each family may have a different process time on each facility and furthermore, it may be technologically feasible to load a family only on a subset of existing facilities. So, in the most general case, the loading problem may involve unrelated parallel facilities of different classes. Once loaded on a facility, a family may consume capacity during setup time. Inventory holding and overtime costs are minimized in the objective function. Setup costs can be included if setups incur costs other than lost production capacity. The CLSLP is relevant in many industrial applications and may be generalized to multi-stage production planning and loading models. The CLSLP is a synthesis of three different planning and loading problems, i.e., the capacitated lot sizing problem (CLSP) with overtime decisions and setup times, minimizing total tardiness on unrelated parallel processors, and, the class scheduling problem, each of which is NP in the feasibility and optimality problems. Consequently, we develop hybrid heuristics involving powerful search techniques such as simulated annealing (SA), tabu search (TS) and genetic algorithms (GA) to deal with the CLSLP. Results are compared with optimal solutions for 108 randomly generated small test problems. The procedures developed here are also compared against each other in 36 larger size problems.  相似文献

Network design problem has been, and is, an important problem in transportation. Following an earlier effort in designing a meta-heuristic search technique by an ant system, this paper attempts to hybridize this concept with other meta-heuristic concepts such as genetic algorithm, simulated annealing, and tabu search. Seven hybrids have been devised and tested on the network of Sioux Falls. It has been observed that the hybrids are more effective to solve the network design problem than the base ant system. Application of the hybrid containing all four concepts on a real network of a city with over 2 million population has also proved to be more effective than the base network, in the sense of finding better solutions sooner.  相似文献
