The velocity fields and the parameters of a finite-width liquid film moving along the bottom of a mini- and a microchannel under the action of a gas flow are calculated. The investigations are performed for different levels of gravity. It is found that the thin liquid film distorts the velocity field in the gaseous phase. In contrast to the minichannel flow, in the microchannel the film surface is not leveled with increase in the gravity force.  相似文献

A thin film flow of a viscous liquid flowing down a vertical wall in the field of the gravity force is studied. The values of temperatures on the solid wall and on the free surface are constant. The viscosity and thermal diffusivity are functions of temperature. An equation that describes the evolution of surface disturbances is derived for small flow rates in the long-wave approximation. __________ Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika i Tekhnicheskaya Fizika, Vol. 49, No. 2, pp. 89–97, March–April, 2008.  相似文献

The laminar flow of a thin layer of heavy viscous magnetic liquid down an inclined wall is examined. The stability and control of the flow of an ordinary liquid are affected only by alteration of the angle of inclination of the solid wall and the velocity of the adjacent gas flow. When magnetic liquids are used [1, 2], an effective method of flow control may be control of the magnetic field. By using magnetic fields of various configurations it is possible to control the flow of a thin film of viscous liquid, modify the stability of laminar film flow, and change the shape of the free surface of the laminarly flowing thin film, a factor which plays a role in mass transfer, whose rate depends on the phase contact surface area. The magnetic field significantly affects the shape of the free surface of a magnetic liquid [3, 4]. In this paper the velocity profile of a layer of viscous magnetic liquid adjoining a gas flow and flowing down an inclined solid wall in a uniform magnetic field is found. It is shown that the flow can be controlled by the magnetic field. The problem of stability of the flow is solved in a linear formulation in which perturbations of the magnetic field are taken into account. The stability condition is found. The flow stability is affected by the nonuniform nature of the field and also by its direction.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 5, pp. 59–65, September–October, 1977.  相似文献

Waves propagating along the interface between a thin vapor film and a liquid layer in the presence of a heat flux are investigated. The boundary conditions on the vapor-liquid phase surface take into account the temperature dependence of the pressure and the possibilities of formation of the metastable state of the superheated liquid and mass flow. Variations in the saturation pressure as functions of the temperature and mass flux lead to generation of weakly damped periodic waves of low amplitude whose velocity can be much higher than the velocity of the gravity waves. The waves ensure stability of the vapor film beneath the liquid layer in the gravity field. The finite-amplitude waves on the surface of the vapor film differ from the Stokes surface waves on the free surface of isothermal fluid. Instability regimes related with superheating of the liquid ant its explosive boiling when the amplitude of an initially small wave increases to infinity in a finite time can develop in a certain working-parameter regime.  相似文献

Most gas wells produce some amount of liquid. The liquid is either condensate or water. At high rates, the gas is able to entrain liquid to the surface; however, as gas well depletes, the liquid drops back in a gas well (called liquid loading) creating a back pressure on the reservoir formation. Addition of surfactants to the well to remove liquid is one of the common methods used in gas wells. Liquid loading in vertical gas wells with and without surfactant application was investigated in this study. Anionic, two types of amphoteric (amphoteric I and amphoteric II), sulphonate and cationic surfactants were tested in 2-inch and 4-inch 40-feet vertical pipes. Pressure gradient and liquid holdup are measured. Visual observation with a high speed camera was used to gain insight into the direction of foam flow in intermittent flow and foam film flow under annular flow conditions.Liquid loading is initiated when the liquid film attached to the wall in annular flow starts flowing downwards. Introduction of foam causes the gas velocity at which film reversal occurs to decrease; this shift increases with increasing surfactant concentration and it is more pronounced in 2-inch pipe than in 4-inch pipe. That is, the benefit of surfactants is much more pronounced in 2-inch pipe than in 4-inch pipe. The reason for postponement of liquid loading is reduction in the liquid holdup at low gas velocities which reduces the liquid holdup in foam flow compared to air-water flow. However, at higher gas velocities, the pressure drop in 2-inch compared to 4-inch pipe increases rapidly as the surfactant concentration increases. The selection of optimum concentration of the surfactant is a balance between the reductions in the gas velocity at which liquid loading occurs compared to increase in the frictional loss as the concentration increases. We provide guidelines about the selection of the surfactant concentration.Visual observations using high speed camera show differences in the behavior under foam flow conditions. Unlike air-water flow, the liquid film attached to the wall is replaced by thick foam capturing the gas bubbles. The type of roll waves which carry the liquid in 2-inch pipe is different than what was observed in 4-inch pipe. Compared to 4-inch pipe, the roll waves in 2-inch pipe are much thicker. This partly explains the differences in 2-inch versus 4-inch pipe behavior.  相似文献

The results of a laboratory investigation of the effect of a liquid film covering the inner surface of a circular gas pipe on its hydraulic resistance are given. The problems of the similarity of liquid film flows are considered. It is shown that the liquid film increases the resistance of a hydraulically smooth pipe but can reduce that of a rough pipe due to the decrease in the equivalent roughness.  相似文献

Flexible risers transporting hydrocarbon liquid–gas flows may be subject to internal dynamic fluctuations of multiphase densities, velocities and pressure changes. Previous studies have mostly focused on single-phase flows in oscillating pipes or multiphase flows in static pipes whereas understanding of multiphase flow effects on oscillating pipes with variable curvatures is still lacking. The present study aims to numerically investigate fundamental planar dynamics of a long flexible catenary riser carrying slug liquid–gas flows and to analyse the mechanical effects of slug flow characteristics including the slug unit length, translational velocity and fluctuation frequencies leading to resonances. A two-dimensional continuum model, describing the coupled horizontal and vertical motions of an inclined flexible/extensible curved riser subject to the space–time varying fluid weights, flow centrifugal momenta and Coriolis effects, is presented. Steady slug flows are considered and modelled by accounting for the mass–momentum balances of liquid–gas phases within an idealized slug unit cell comprising the slug liquid (containing small gas bubbles) and elongated gas bubble (interfacing with the liquid film) parts. A nonlinear hydrodynamic film profile is described, depending on the pipe diameter, inclination, liquid–gas phase properties, superficial velocities and empirical correlations. These enable the approximation of phase fractions, local velocities and pressure variations which are employed as the time-varying, distributed parameters leading to the slug flow-induced vibration (SIV) of catenary riser. Several key SIV features are numerically investigated, highlighting the slug flow-induced transient drifts due to the travelling masses, amplified mean displacements due to the combined slug weights and flow momenta, extensibility or tension changes due to a reconfiguration of pipe equilibrium, oscillation amplitudes and resonant frequencies. Single- and multi-modal patterns of riser dynamic profiles are determined, enabling the evaluation of associated bending/axial stresses. Parametric studies reveal the individual effect of the slug unit length and the translational velocity on SIV response regardless of the slug characteristic frequency being a function of these two parameters. This key observation is practically useful for the identification of critical maximum response.  相似文献

The continuously running liquid film tunnel (LFT) is a novel device suitable for the study of two-dimensional flows. In this innovation, the films start from a reservoir, run over a horizontal or non-horizontal wire frame and get pulled/washed by a water sheet or by gravity of liquid film. How-ever, despite the simple design and widespread application of LFT, its working mechanisms are not well understood. In the present work, an experimental effort for explaining these mechanisms is reported. The results show that both film velocities and film flow rates increase with water sheet velocity up to a saturation level. This behavior is described via a force balance between the shear force produced by the water sheet and the opposing pulling force of reservoir and boundary layer frictions. The results also show that the average film thickness depends on the surfactant concentration. This is as predicted by a model based on Langmuir’s adsorption theory, in which the liquid film contains two external monolayers of surfactant and a slab of surfactant solution in between. When a film is drawn from the reservoir to the water sheet, the surfactant molecules start migrating from the former to the latter. To restore the thermodynamic equilibrium, the dragged film pulls more surfactant due to Marangoni elasticity, and thus a flow is established. The film flow soon reaches an equilibrium rate as required by the force balance mentioned above. Received: 15 August 1996/Accepted: 12 November 1996  相似文献

The instability and regular nonlinear waves in the film of a heavy viscous liquid flowing along the wall of a round tube and interacting with a gas flow are investigated. The solutions for the wave film flows are numerically obtained in the regimes from free flow-down in a counter-current gas stream to cocurrent upward flow of the film and the gas at fairly large gas velocities. Continuous transition from the counter-current to the cocurrent flow via the state with a maximum amplitude of nonlinear waves and zero values of the liquid flow rate and the phase velocity is investigated. The Kapitsa-Shkadov method is used to reduce a boundary value problem to a system of evolutionary equations for the local values of the layer thickness and the liquid flow rate.

Wave regimes of viscous liquid film flows are considered when the viscosity coefficients vary in a wide range. An approximate model system of differential equations with two external governing parameters for the film layer thickness and the local flow rate is derived. The viscous dissipation of a film layer is taken into account in this system more accurately than in the well-known one-parameter Shkadov model. New properties of linear and nonlinear waves caused by the hydrodynamic instability of high-viscous liquid flows under gravity and surface tension are found.  相似文献

According to a mathematical model for dense two-phase flows presented in theprevious paper,a dense two-phase flow in a vertical pipeline is analytically solved, and theanalytic expressions of velocity of each continuous phase and dispersed phase arerespectively derived The results show that when the drag force between two phases dependslinearly on their relative velocity, the relative velocity profile in the pipeline coincides withDarcy’s law except for the thin layer region near the pipeline wall, and that the theoreticalassumptions in the dense two-phase flow theory mentioned are reasonable.  相似文献

The paper considers heat transfer characteristics of thin film flow over a hot horizontal cylinder resulting from a cold vertical sheet of liquid falling onto the surface. The underlying physical features of the developing film thickness, velocity and temperature distributions have been illustrated by numerical solutions of high accuracy for large Reynolds numbers using the modified Keller box method. The solutions for film thickness distribution are good agreement with those obtained using the Pohlhausen integral momentum technique thus providing a basic confirmation of the validity of the results presented.  相似文献

Numerical simulation of air–water slug flows accelerated from steady states with different initial velocities in a micro tube is conducted. It is shown that the liquid film formed between the gas bubble and the wall in an accelerated flow is significantly thinner than that in a steady flow at the same instantaneous capillary number. Specifically, the liquid film thickness is kept almost unchanged just after the onset of acceleration, and then gradually increases and eventually converges to that of an accelerated flow from zero initial velocity. Due to the flow acceleration, the Stokes layer is generated from the wall, and the instant velocity profile can be given by superposition of the Stokes layer and the initial parabolic velocity profile of a steady flow. It is found that the velocity profile inside a liquid slug away from the bubble can be well predicted by the analytical solution of a single-phase flow with acceleration. The change of the velocity profile in an accelerated flow changes the balance between the inertia, surface tension and viscous forces around the meniscus region, and thus the resultant liquid film thickness. By introducing the displacement thickness, the existing correlation for liquid film thickness in a steady flow (Han and Shikazono, 2009) is extended so that it can be applied to a flow with acceleration from an arbitrary initial velocity. It is demonstrated that the proposed correlation can predict liquid film thickness at Re < 4600 within the range of ±10% accuracy.  相似文献

The spherical expanded polystyrene particle–oil two-phase flow in a vertical pipe was used to simulate the dispersed phase distribution in laminar bubbly flows. A three-dimensional particle image tracking technique was used to track the particles in the flow to study the ordered structure of dispersed phase distribution and its transition to disorder. The ordered structures behaved as particle strings aligned in the flow direction as induced by the flow shear. The structures were quite durable in high liquid velocity flows and dispersed gradually as the liquid velocity decreased. In lower velocity flows, the particles tended to form clusters in the horizontal direction, as predicted by potential theory for spherical bubbles rising in a quiescent inviscid liquid and as observed in experiments on non-shear bubbly water flows.  相似文献

The dynamic behaviors of a horizontal piping structure with an elbow due to the two-phase flow excitation are experimentally investigated. The effects of flow patterns and superficial velocities on the pressure pulsations and vibration responses are evaluated in detail. A strong partition coupling algorithm is used to calculate the flow-induced vibration (FIV) responses of the pipe, and the theoretical values agree well with the experimental results. It is found that the lateral and axial vibration responses of the bend pipe are related to the momentum flux of the two-phase flow, and the vibration amplitudes of the pipe increase with an increase in the liquid mass flux. The vertical vibration responses are strongly affected by the flow pattern, and the maximum response occurs in the transition region from the slug flow to the bubbly flow. Moreover, the standard deviation (STD) amplitudes of the pipe vibration in three directions increase with an increase in the gas flux for both the slug and bubbly flows. The blockage of liquid slugs at the elbow section is found to strengthen the vibration amplitude of the bend pipe, and the water-blocking phenomenon disappears as the superficial gas velocity increases.  相似文献

A method is described for monitoring the changing thickness of a thin oil film subject to an aerodynamic shear stress using two focused laser beams. The measurement is then simply analyzed in terms of the surface skin friction of the flow. The analysis includes the effects of arbitrarily large pressure and skinfriction gradients, gravity, and time-varying oil temperature. It may also be applied to three-dimensional flows with unknown direction. Applications are presented for a variety of flows including two-dimensional flows, three-dimensional swirling flows, separated flows, supersonic high-Reynolds-number flows, and delta-wing vortical flows.  相似文献

Laboratory experiments have been performed on the flow of oil, water and air through a vertical pipe in order to study the gas-lift technique for oil–water flows. Special attention was paid to the phase inversion phenomenon, by which the continuous phase switches to the dispersed phase and vice versa. By using different types of gas injectors the influence of the bubble size of the injected air on the efficiency of the gas-lift technique (in particular at the point of phase inversion) was studied. Also the gas and liquid mixture velocities were varied. The air bubbles were detected by means of optical fibre probes. Local measurements of the time-averaged gas volume fraction, bubble size and bubble velocity were carried out, as well as pressure measurements.  相似文献

The wave flow of a thin layer of viscous liquid in conjunction with a flow of gas was considered in a linear formulation earlier [1, 2]. In this paper the problem of the wave flow of a liquid film together with a gas flow is solved in a nonlinear setting. On this basis relationships are derived for calculating the parameters of the film and the hydrodynamic quantities.Ivanovo.
