A topological spaceX has the Fréchet-Urysohn property if for each subsetA ofX and each elementx inĀ, there exists a countable sequence of elements ofA which converges tox. Reznichenko introduced a natural generalization of this property, where the converging sequence of elements is replaced by a sequence of disjoint finite sets which eventually intersect each neighborhood ofx. In [5], Kočinac and Scheepers conjecture: The minimal cardinality of a setX of real numbers such thatC p(X) does not have the weak Fréchet-Urysohn property is equal to b. (b is the minimal cardinality of an unbounded family in the Baire spaceNℕ.) We prove the Kočinac-Scheepers conjecture by showing that ifC p(X) has the Reznichenko property, then a continuous image ofX cannot be a subbase for a non-feeble filter on ℕ. It is well known that the robust counterpart introduced by Ben-Tal and Nemirovski (Math Oper Res 23:769–805, 1998) increases the numerical complexity of the solution compared to the original problem. Kočvara, Nemirovski and Zowe therefore introduced in Kočvara et al. (Comput Struct 76:431–442, 2000) an approximation algorithm for the special case of robust material optimization, called cascading. As the title already indicates, we will show that their method can be seen as an adjustment of standard exchange methods to semi-infinite conic programming. We will see that the adjustment can be motivated by a suitable reformulation of the robust conic problem.   相似文献

Superfilters are generalizations of ultrafilters, and capture the underlying concept in Ramsey-theoretic theorems such as van der Waerden's Theorem. We establish several properties of superfilters, which generalize both Ramsey's Theorem and its variants for ultrafilters on the natural numbers. We use them to confirm a conjecture of Kočinac and Di Maio, which is a generalization of a Ramsey-theoretic result of Scheepers, concerning selections from open covers. Following Bergelson and Hindman's 1989 Theorem, we present a new simultaneous generalization of the theorems of Ramsey, van der Waerden, Schur, Folkman–Rado–Sanders, Rado, and others, where the colored sets can be much smaller than the full set of natural numbers.  相似文献

Whereas the Gerlits-Nagy γ property is strictly weaker than the Galvin-Miller strong γ property, the corresponding strong notions for the Menger, Hurewicz, Rothberger, Gerlits-Nagy (∗), Arkhangel'ski?ˇ and Sakai properties are equivalent to the original ones. The main result is that almost each of these properties admits the game theoretic characterization suggested by the stronger notion. We also solve a related problem of Ko?inac and Scheepers, and answer a question of Iliadis.  相似文献

We show that two limit results from random matrix theory, due to Marčenko–Pastur and Bai–Yin, are also valid for matrices with independent rows (as opposed to independent entries in the classical theory), when rows are uniformly distributed on the unit ball of np, under proper normalization. We introduce a new analytic family of intertwining operators which include the Radon transform over matrix planes and its inverse. These operators generalize integral transformations introduced by Semyanistyi (Dokl. Akad. Nauk SSSR 134:536–539, [1960]) in his research related to the hyperplane Radon transform in ℝ n . We obtain an extended version of Fuglede’s formula, connecting generalized Semyanistyi’s integrals, Radon transforms and Riesz potentials on the space of real rectangular matrices. This result combined with the matrix analog of the Hilbert transform leads to variety of new explicit inversion formulas for the Radon transform of functions of matrix argument. We study microscopic convexity property of fully nonlinear elliptic and parabolic partial differential equations. Under certain general structure condition, we establish that the rank of Hessian 2 u is of constant rank for any convex solution u of equation F( 2 u, u,u,x)=0. The similar result is also proved for parabolic equations. Some of geometric applications are also discussed. In this paper, locally Lipschitz functions acting between infinite dimensional normed spaces are considered. When the range is a dual space and satisfies the Radon–Nikodym property, Clarke’s generalized Jacobian will be extended to this setting. Characterization and fundamental properties of the extended generalized Jacobian are established including the nonemptiness, the β-compactness, the β-upper semicontinuity, and a mean-value theorem. A connection with known notions is provided and chain rules are proved using key results developed. This included the vectorization and restriction theorem, and the extension theorem. Therefore, the generalized Jacobian introduced in this paper is proved to enjoy all the properties required of a derivative like-set. We introduce the concept of θ-derivations on JB*-triples and prove the Hyers–Ulam-Rassias stability of θ-derivations on JB*-triples. We deal with the Hyers-Ulam-Rassias stability that was first introduced by Th. M. Rassias in the paper “On the stability of the linear mapping in Banach spaces, Proc. Amer. Math. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for non-special line bundles of degree2g — 2 and 2g — 3 being not normally generated. We revisit the boundedness of Hankel and Toeplitz operators acting on the Hardy space H 1 and give a new proof of the old result stating that the Hankel operator H a is bounded if and only if a has bounded logarithmic mean oscillation. We also establish a sufficient and necessary condition for H a to be compact on H 1. The Fredholm properties of Toeplitz operators on H 1 are studied for symbols in a Banach algebra similar to CH under mild additional conditions caused by the differences in the boundedness of Toeplitz operators acting on H 1 and H 2. We prove that scattered Eberlein compacta of Cantor-Bendixson height at most ω + 1 are Uniform Eberlein compact spaces (ω + 1 is optimal for this result). For a set X and nω, by σ n (2X) we denote the subspace of the product 2X consisting of all characteristic functions of sets of cardinality ≥ n. We give an example of an Eberlein compactum K of weight ω ω and of Cantor-Bendixson height 3 which cannot be embedded into any σ n (2X). Research of the first author supported by NSERC of Canada. We define Riesz transforms and conjugate Poisson integrals associated with multi-dimensional Jacobi expansions. Under a slight restriction on the type parameters, we prove that these operators are bounded in L p , 1 < p < ∞, with constants independent of the dimension. Our tools are suitably defined g-functions and Littlewood-Paley-Stein theory, involving the Jacobi-Poisson semigroup and modifications of it. The Bernoulli convolution Vλ measure is shown to be absolutely continuous with L^2 density for almost all 1/2<λ<1, and singular if λ^-1 is a Pisot number. It is an open question whether the Pisot type Bernoulli conuolutions are the only singular ones. In this paper, we construct a family of non-Pisot type Bernoulli convo-lutions Vλ such that their density functions, if they exist, are not L^2. We also construct other Bernolulli convo-lutions whose density functions if they exist, behave rather badly.  相似文献
