In this study, the levels of natural radioactivity in the groundwater samples collected from 26 different locations in Al-Zulfi, Al-Qassim and Al-Majmaah regions were determined. The estimated average values of 226Ra, 228Ra, 40K, gross α and gross β activities in the samples were 0.87 Bq L?1, 1.33 Bq L?1, 4.22 Bq L?1, 36.82 mBq L?1 and 831.91 mBq L?1, respectively. We found that age-dependent effective ingestion dose from radionuclides in all samples were higher than WHO recommended levels of 0.1 µSv y?1 for adults 0.2 µSv y?1 for children and 0.26 µSv y?1 for infants while 20 sampling locations have age-dependent effective dose equivalent from β contributors were higher than WHO recommended level of 0.1 mSv y?1.  相似文献

The uranium mine and mill at ?irovski vrh, Slovenia, operated from 1982 to 1990. After processing, the uranium mill tailings were deposited onto the Bor?t waste pile lying close to the mine. Radioecological studies focused on assessing the mobility and bioavailability of deposited radionuclides were initiated some five years ago. The mobility of 238U, 234U, 230Th and 226Ra in soil was studied by applying sequential extraction protocols. The highest activity concentrations were found at the bottom of the waste pile. Uranium isotopes were the most mobile, followed by 226Ra whose mobility appeared to be suppressed by high sulphate concentrations and 230Th. The wetland plants grown in soils contaminated with seepage waters from the tailings contained higher levels of 238U, 226Ra and 230Th compared to plants from a control site. The activity concentration of 226Ra was the highest in all studied plant species. The radiological risk to wildlife around the mine area as assessed by the ERICA Tool was negligible. Activity concentrations in bovine milk from the area of ?irovski vrh were comparable to the reference location, except for uranium where the content was higher. The combined annual effective dose for adults consuming milk from the ?irovski vrh area is 13.0 ± 1.7 μSv a?1.  相似文献

Activity concentrations of 238U, 232Th, 226Ra, 40K and 137Cs were measured in milk, egg, fruit and fish samples collected around a proposed site for setting up nuclear facilities, near Vishakhapatanam. The activity concentrations of the radionuclides ranged from 0.002 to 10.6, 0.002 to 2.8, 0.1 to 7.2, 3 to 110.8, 0.03 to 3 mBq g?1 for 238U, 232Th, 226Ra, 40K and 137Cs considering analysed food matrices. Natural uranium was measured in drinking water samples and the values were below 15 ppb. The average ingestion dose was 2.07 ± 2.01, 2.81 ± 4.38, 7.66 ± 8.24, 1.28 ± 0.84 and 0.04 ± 0.05 μSv year?1 for 238U, 232Th, 226Ra, 40K and 137Cs in milk, egg, fruit, fish and water. The ingestion dose received was the highest for milk, due to its high ingestion rate. It was observed that 226Ra is the largest contributor of measured radionuclides in this study for the different food matrices analysed due to its high dose conversion factor. The study was carried out as a part of baseline data generation for this region with which future changes in the radiological scenario can be compared.  相似文献

Healing mud core samples were collected in the San Diego River (Southwest Cuba), in order to determine the behaviour of the radioactivity levels of 226Ra, 137Cs, 232Th and 40K and to evaluate their possible radiological impact on peloide therapeutic uses. The radionuclide concentration ranges in healing mud profiles on Bq kg?1 dry weight varied as follows: 226Ra = 22–26, 137Cs = 4.6–33.0, 232Th = 18–31 and 40K = 208–433. The calculated average radium equivalent activity (82 Bq kg?1), total absorbed dose rate (40 nGy h?1), external hazard index (0.23), annual gonadal dose equivalent (280 μSv h?1) and annual effective dose equivalent (48.5 μSv y?1) are less than international recommended values. Hence, the levels of radioactivity in healing muds from San Diego River are not an impediment for its use for medical proposes.  相似文献

Activity concentrations of 234U, 238U and 226Ra in mineral waters were determined on the basis of nine water bottling facilities using alpha particle spectrometry. The mineral water samples were collected from three geographic regions of Turkey. The radiochemical separation used in the uranium analysis is based on the isolation of uranium radioisotopes from other radionuclides such as Th, Am, Pu and Np using UTEVA resin. Alpha sources were prepared using electrodeposition method. The activity concentration of 226Ra was determined after deposition on a membrane using BaSO4 co-precipitation method. The activity concentrations (mBq L?1) of 226Ra, 238U and 234U ranged from <0.56 to 165, from <0.42 to 439 and from <0.42 to 464, respectively. The measured activity concentrations were used for the calculation of the average total annual effective ingestion doses for children and adults. The committed effective doses were calculated for three different scenarios according to mineral water consumption rate. In the most extreme scenario (for age group 12–17), all water samples except MW1 and MW2 cause annual committed effective doses below the reference level (0.1 mSv year?1) recommended by World Health Organization (WHO).  相似文献

Activities of 238U, 234U, 228Ra, 226Ra, and 224Ra as well as total α- and β-activities of 23 bottled spring, mineral and therapeutic waters produced and distributed in southern and central Poland are presented. The activities vary from a few tenth to a few mBq·L−1 for uranium and to several hundred mBq·L−1 for radium isotopes. The activities of 40K were calculated from chemical analyses of potassium and checked for several mineral waters by gamma-spectrometer coupled with an HPGe detector. Positive correlation between water mineralization and activities of 40K, 226Ra, as well as total alpha- and total beta-activities were observed. The radiological annual doses were calculated for all investigated waters and for different human age groups assuming the consumption of 1 liter of water per day. The calculated committed effective dose rate from uranium and radium isotopes resulting from consumption of the investigated waters exceeds the recommended value of 0.1 mSv per year in seventeen cases for infants and in one case for adults.  相似文献

226Ra, 238U, 232Th, and 40K radionuclides have been determined using gamma-ray spectrometry in soil samples collected from urban areas in the southern governorates of Jordan and showed average concentrations of (39 ± 18), (45 ± 20), (23 ± 13), and (233 ± 128) Bq kg?1, respectively. The corresponding radio-elemental concentrations in the existing geological features were obtained and examined for the relative depletion/enrichment processes and state of equilibrium in soils. Radium equivalent activity, hazard indices, and annual gonadal dose equivalent do not exceed the permissible limits. Absorbed dose rates in air outdoor and external effective dose showed average values of 44.0 nGy h?1 and 54.4 μSv y?1, respectively.  相似文献

Precise determination of uranium concentration in human urine is quite important in assessment of occupational and public exposure to uranium. In the present work, a pulsed dye nitrogen laser-induced kinetic phosphorescence analysis (KPA) was used to determine uranium in urine of Iraqi phosphate mine and fertilizer plant workers and in the population living near the mining region. A total of 92 urine samples were collected from workers of the Akashat phosphate mine, the Al-Qaim fertilizer complex, and the Akashat residential region. Uranium concentration in urine of all samples ranged between 0.49 to 5.26 μg L?1 with a total average of 1.47 ± 0.01 μg L?1. For comparison, all samples were also analyzed using a completely different technique; the nuclear fission track analysis using CR-39 SSNTD. Both techniques were capable of such measurements, although not with an equal degree of uncertainty. KPA technique is found to be more suitable for analysis of urine samples having high concentrations of uranium.  相似文献

Benzoylthiourea derivatives (N,N-diphenyl-N′-(3-methylbenzoyl)thiourea and diphenyl-N′-(4-methylbenzoyl)thiourea) were impregnated onto silica gel. The preconcentration of uranium(VI) from aqueous solution was investigated. Extraction conditions were optimized in batch method prior to determination by uv–visible absorption spectrometry using arsenazo(III). The optimum pH for quantitative adsorption was found as 3–7. Quantitative recovery of uranium (VI) was achieved by stripping with 0.1 mol L?1 HCl. Equilibration time was determined as 30 min for 99% sorption of U(VI). Under optimal conditions, dynamic linear range of for U(VI) was found as 0.25–10 μg mL?1. The relative standard deviation as percentage and detection limit were 5.0% (n = 10) for 10 μg mL?1 U(VI) solution and 8.7 ng mL?1, respectively. The method was employed to the preconcentration of U(VI) ions in soil and tap water samples.  相似文献

Determining radioactivity levels in foodstuffs is of great importance for the protection of human health. In addition, the literature includes few studies related to this subject in Turkey. In this study, gamma spectroscopic system was used in order to measure 226Ra, 232Th, 40K and 137Cs activity concentrations in vegetables and fruits produced in Elaz?? Region. The average activity concentrations in vegetables was calculated as 0.64 ± 0.26 Bq kg?1 for 226Ra, 0.65 ± 0.14 Bq kg?1 for 232Th, 13.98 ± 1.22 Bq kg?1 for 40K, and 0.54 ± 0.04 Bq kg?1 for 137Cs. The average activity concentrations in fruits were 1.52 ± 0.34, 0.98 ± 0.23, 18.66 ± 1.13 and 0.59 ± 0.16 Bq kg?1, respectively for 226Ra, 232Th, 40K and 137Cs. Total committed effective dose value was determined as 20 and 30.55 μSv y?1, respectively for vegetables and fruits. The findings were compared with previous data reported for Turkey and other regions of the world.  相似文献

Mumbai Harbour Bay (MHB) is a recipient of low level treated effluents from BARC, Trombay and its also a recipient of domestic and industrial wastes from the city of Mumbai and adjoining areas. Sediment samples were collected from various locations of MHB to determine the concentrations of naturally occurring radionuclides like 226Ra, 228Ra and 40K which varied between 4.0 and 26.0, 5.5 and 19.9, 249.6 and 557.6 Bq kg (dry) ?1 respectively and are comparable to the worldwide average concentration. The mean value ratio of 228Ra/226Ra in sediment was found to be 1.4, indicating a relatively higher mobility of 238U compared to 232Th. The concentration of anthropogenic radionuclide 137Cs in sediment and biota ranged between 3.6 and 54.5 Bq kg (dry) ?1 , <0.08 and 0.5 Bq kg (wet) ?1 respectively. The ingestion dose to ‘General Public’ due to 137Cs intake is 0.02 μSv years?1 which is negligible compared to the internationally accepted limit of 1,000 μSv years?1 to ‘members of public’.  相似文献

Sequestration of uranium from simulated sea water and reverse osmosis concentrates by the marine cyanobacterium, Synechococcus elongatus was assessed. Short term experiments established removal of 90–98 % uranium by the strain from simulated sea water containing 13 nM uranyl carbonate at pH 7.8, resulting in a loading of 7–42 μg U g?1 over a period of 1–5 days respectively. Long term experiments involving repeated exposure of Synechococcus biomass to fresh simulated sea water every third day, showed a loading of 2,960 μg U g?1 in 4 weeks. Nearly 85–90 % of cell bound uranium could be desorbed using 0.1 N HCl. The organism could sequester uranium (13,306 μg U g?1 in 24 h) from aqueous solutions supplemented with 0.6 M NaCl and 21 μM [UO2(CO3)2]2? at pH 7.8. The results demonstrate noteworthy potential of this organism for harnessing uranium from marine environments.  相似文献

Radon in groundwater and their annual effective dose in the Ashanti region of Ghana have been determined using the continuous grab sampling technique and an AB-5 detector. Mean levels of radon were in the range of 0.51–46.16 Bq L?1. Effective annual doses ranged from 0.18–16.16, 0.13–12.08 and 0.09–8.31 μSv y?1 for infants, children and adults, respectively. These values are significantly lower than the reference level of 0.1 mSv y?1 recommended by the WHO and United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation for members of the public.  相似文献

An on-line extraction/determination set up was designed for micro solid-phase extraction of clodinafop propargyl from water, soil and wheat samples using electrospun polyamide nanofiber mats. The prepared mats were packed in a stainless steel tube which conveniently acted as a high-performance liquid chromatography injection loop. Influential parameters affecting the extraction efficiency were optimized using a distilled water sample fortified with 25 μg L?1 of clodinafop propargyl. An enrichment factor of 440 was achieved for clodinafop propargyl indicating the ability of the whole procedure. Under the optimum conditions, the linearity for the analyte was in the range of 6–700 μg L?1, while a limit of detection and limit of quantification of 2 and 6 μg L?1 were achieved, respectively. The intra-day and inter-day RSD% at the concentration level of 25 μg L?1 were 4.6 and 9.3 %, respectively. To investigate the matrix effect, the developed method was applied to the analysis of real water samples including paddy and river waters as well as the wheat and soil samples. The relative recovery percentages for the spiked samples were in the range of 63–95 %.  相似文献

The purpose of this study consists in reporting of single laboratory validation of a method for the determination of total inorganic arsenic by hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry from natural and residual water samples. Applicability, fitness for purpose, selectivity, and sensitivity were discussed. A calibration study was realized, linear working range (0.4–4 μg·L?1), detection (0.11 μg·L?1), and quantification (0.38 μg·L?1) limits being determined. It was also proven that the method is accurate and precise. Following the bottom-up approach measurement, uncertainty was estimated (method validation data were used).  相似文献

Scandium and thorium sorption from simulated uranium leach liquors by phosphorous containing ion exchange resins was studied. Increase of thorium concentration resulted in a decrease of scandium sorption by 26–65%. Tulsion CH 93 resin was chosen for Sc separation from uranium leach liquors. It was shown that 180 g L?1 Na2CO3 allowed for elution 94.1% of Sc and 98.9% of Th in dynamic conditions. Using (NH4)2SO4 (50 g L?1) + ACBM (180 g L?1) mixture for primary Sc/Th separation at the resin/eluent ratio of 1:5 resulted in thorium desorption degree as high as 66–69%, whereas scandium loss did not exceed 10%.  相似文献

A simple, rapid and efficient method termed dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction combined with liquid chromatography-fluorescence detection, has been developed for the extraction and determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in water and fruit juice samples. Parameters such as the kind and volume of extraction solvent and dispersive solvent, extraction time and salt effect were optimized. Under optimum conditions, the enrichment factors ranged from 296 to 462. The linear range was 0.01–100 μg L?1 and limits of detection were 0.001–0.01 μg L?1. The relative standard deviations (RSDs, for 5 μg L?1 of PAHs) varied from 1.0 to 11.5% (n = 3). The relative recoveries of PAHs from tap, river, well and sea water samples at spiking level of 5 μg L?1 were 82.6–117.1, 74.9–113.9, 77.0–122.4 and 86.1–119.3%, respectively. The relative recoveries of PAHs from grape and apple juice samples at spiking levels of 2.5 and 5 μg L?1 were 80.8–114.7 and 88.9–123.0%, respectively. It is concluded that the proposed method can be successfully applied for determination of PAHs in water and fruit juice samples.  相似文献

Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) based sorptive extraction method for uranium (U) from aqueous solutions has been developed. The proposed method was optimized by evaluating the analytical parameters including pH, eluent type, flow rates of sample and eluent, etc. The adsorption capacity of MWCNTs was found to be 9.80 μg g?1, while the detection limit based on 3σ criterion was 1.9 μg L?1. The presented method was applied for the estimation of U in ore sample. Effect of potentially interfering ions was also studied and were found to inert not interfering with U during the analysis. The results suggest that MWCNTs can be used as reliable solid phase for preconcentration and arsenazo-III as chromophore for U spectrometric determination from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

During the past century extensive uranium mining took place in Portugal for radium and uranium production. One such uranium mine was the Boco Mine, in operation during the 1960s and 70s. Mining waste and open pits were left uncovered since mine closure. During the nineties a quarry for sand extraction was operated in the same site and water from a local stream was extensively used in sand sieving. Downstream the mine area, agriculture soil is used for cattle grazing. Water from the stream, water wells, soil, pasture and sheep meat were now analyzed for radionuclides of uranium natural series. The U-series radionuclide 226Ra was generally the highest in concentrations especially in soil, pasture, and in internal organs of sheep. 226Ra concentrations were 1,093 ± 96 Bq/kg (dry weight, dw) in soil, 43 ± 3 Bq/kg (dw) in pasture, and 193 ± 84 mBq/kg (wet weight, ww) in muscle tissue of sheep. Other sheep internal organs displayed much higher 226Ra concentrations, such as the brain and kidneys with 1,850 ± 613 mBq/kg (ww) and 6,043 ± 6,023 mBq/kg (ww), respectively. Results of analyses of tissue samples from sheep grown in a comparison area were 2 to 16 times lower, depending on the organ. Absorbed radiation doses for internal organs were computed and may exceed 5.2 mGy/y in the case of kidneys, near three times higher than in animals from the reference area, but below the threshold for biological effects. Radionuclide transfer in the terrestrial food chain and radiation exposure of the human population is discussed.  相似文献

Voltammetric procedures for trace metals analysis in polluted natural waters using homemade bare gold-disk microelectrodes of 25- and 125-μm diameters have been determined. In filtered seawater samples, square wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV) with a frequency of 25 Hz is applied for analysis, whereas in unfiltered contaminated river samples, differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV) gave more reliable results. The peak potentials of the determined trace metals are shifted to more positive values compared to mercury drop or mercury-coated electrodes, with Zn always displaying 2 peaks, and Pb and Cd inversing their positions. For a deposition step of 120 s at ?1.1 V, without stirring, the 25-μm gold-disk microelectrode has a linear response for Cd, Cu, Mn, Pb and Zn from 0.2 μg L?1 (1 μg L?1 for Mn) to 20 μg L?1 (30 μg L?1 for Zn, Pb and 80 μg L?1 for Mn). Under the same analytical conditions, the 125-μm gold-disk microelectrode shows linear behaviour for Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn from 1 μg L?1 (5 μg L?1 for Cd) to 100 μg L?1 (200 μg L?1 for Pb). The sensitivity of the 25-μm electrode varied for different analytes from 0.23 (±0.5%, Mn) to 4.83 (±0.9%, Pb) nA L μmol?1, and sensitivity of the 125-μm electrode varied from 1.48 (±0.7%, Zn) to 58.53 (±1.1%, Pb  nA L μmol?1. These microelectrodes have been validated for natural sample analysis by use in an on-site system to monitor Cu, Pb and Zn labile concentrations in the Deûle River (France), polluted by industrial activities. First results obtained on sediment core issued from the same location have shown the ability of this type of microelectrode for in situ measurements of Pb and Mn concentrations in anoxic sediments.   相似文献
