Electronic excited states, electronic absorption, and magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectra of free-base tetraazaporphyrin (TAP), phthalocyanine (Pc), naphthalocyanine (Nc), and anthracocyanine (Ac) were studied by quantum chemical calculations using the symmetry-adapted cluster-configuration interaction (SAC-CI) method. Not only optically allowed states including the Q- and B-bands but also optically forbidden states were calculated for transitions whose excitation energies were lower than 4.5 eV. The present SAC-CI calculations consistently assigned the absorption and MCD peaks as optically allowed π→π(?) excitations, although these calculations using double-zeta basis limit quantitative agreement and discussion. For Nc and Ac, excited states beyond the four-orbital model appeared in the low-energy region. The low-energy shifts of the Q-bands with the extension of molecular size were explained by the orbital energies. The splitting of the Q-bands decreases with extension of the molecular size. This feature was reproduced by the SAC-CI calculations but the configuration interaction with single excitations and time-dependent density functional theory calculations failed to reproduce this trend. Electron correlation in the excited states is important in reproducing this splitting of the Q-bands and in describing the energy difference between the B(2u) and B(3u) states of free-base porphyrins.  相似文献

The photocyclization behavior and dynamic conformational transition of photochromic switches of diarythene derivatives in solutions are investigated by using the density functional theory (DFT) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. Three possible conformations, antiparallel (anti), parallel (para), and twist, for the open-ring isomers of 1,2-bis(2-methylbenzothiophene-3-yl)maleic anhydride are located. Both PCM-B3LYP/6-31G* calculations and MD simulations demonstrate that anti and twist open-ring isomers can interconvert freely in n-hexane and acetonitrile solutions at room temperature. The statistical ratio of twist to anti isomers from MD simulations is 2.09 in n-hexane and 1.07 in CH(3)CN, in qualitative agreement with those (1.18 in n-hexane and 1.05 in CH(3)CN) estimated from Arrhenius analysis of DFT activation energies. The solvent polarity has little influence on the isomerization of open-ring isomers in the ground state. Due to the evident charge transfer upon excitations, the solvent effects on the electronic structures and absorption spectra of low-lying excited states (S(1) and S(2)) are more significant. For such charge-transfer excited states, the long-range corrected functional CAM-B3LYP gives better agreement with the experimental spectra than B3LYP. The solvent polarity and polarization of the charge-transfer excited states are crucial for fabricating the novel functionalized photochromic molecular switches.  相似文献

We made an extended study on the structure and properties of the low-lying electronic states of ethynyl substituted aniline and their cations. We performed these calculations using density functional theory method(B3LYP and CAM-B3LYP DFT) and the complete active space self-consistent field(CASSCF) approach in connection with the aug-cc-pVZ Dunning's basis sets and concerted ANO-L-VDZP basis sets. Our results included their equilibrium geometries, the vertical excitation spectra and the vertical and adiabatic ionization energies. The effect of ethynyl substitution on the electronic structure and the spectroscopy of aniline was probed.  相似文献

The electronic structure and optical properties of 13 chelating heteroatomic conjugated molecules such as pyridine, benzoxazole, and benzothiazole derivatives, which are used as C–N ligands in organometallic compounds, have been investigated. The geometries of the ground and first excited states were obtained by the DFT and CIS methods, respectively, followed by the SAC-CI calculations of the transition energies for absorption and emission. For six compounds whose experimental data are available, the SAC-CI calculations reproduced the experimental values satisfactorily with deviations of less than 0.3 eV for absorption and 0.1 eV for emission except for benzoxazoles. For other molecules, the theoretical absorption and emission spectra were predicted. The lowest ππ* excited-state geometries was calculated to be planar for most of the molecules with two or three conjugated rings connected by single bond. The geometry change due to the ππ* excitation was qualitatively interpreted by electrostatic force theory based on SAC/SAC-CI electron density difference. The excitations are relatively localized in the central region and in the lowest ππ* excited state, the inter-ring single bond shows large change, with a contraction of 0.05–0.09 Å. The present calculations provide reliable information regarding the energy levels of these chelating heteroatomic conjugated compounds.  相似文献

The present work is a theoretical investigation on supramolecular complexes of a fullerene crown ether (A and B isomers) with a derivative of π-extended tetrathiafulvalene (T). The geometry and the electronic structure of seven different conformers of the complex of dibenzo-18-crown-6 ether of fullero-N-methylpyrrolidine with a N-benzyl-N-(4-{[9,10-bis(1,3-dithiol-2-ylidene)-9,10-dihydroanthracen-2-yl]ethynyl}benzyl)ammonium cation were determined. We calculated the complexation energies and the absorption spectra, i.e., the lowest 50 excited electronic states of the complexes have been determined at the ground state optimum geometry. All calculations were carried out employing the density functional theory (DFT) and the time-dependent DFT, using the B3LYP, CAM-B3LYP, ωB97X-D, and M06-2X functionals in conjunction with the 6-31G(d,p) basis set. Various types of van der Waals interactions are observed in the complexes. Conformer complexation energies (CE) range from 2.54 to 2.14 eV in the gas phase and from 1.75 to 1.34 eV in CHCl(3) solvent at the ωB97X-D/6-31G(d,p)//M06-2X/6-31G(d,p) level of theory. There are three major features at about 390, 330, and 290 nm in the calculated absorption spectra of all the conformers. The major peaks correspond to T→T, T→T/F (electron density in both T and the fullerene F of B) and to T→F transitions, depending on the particular conformer. Other charge transfer T→F transitions are observed close to the T→T transition, indicating the possibility of photoinduced electron transfer in all these complexes.  相似文献

The ground state and the excited states of benzene, pyrimidine, and pyrazine have been examined by using the symmetry adapted cluster-configuration interaction (SAC-CI) method. Detailed characterizations and the structures of the absorption peaks in the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV), low energy electron impact (LEEI), and electron energy loss (EEL) spectra were theoretically clarified by calculating the excitation energy and the oscillator strength for each excited state. We show that SAC-CI has the power to well reproduce the electronic excitation spectra (VUV, LEEI, and EEL) simultaneously to an accuracy for both the singlet and the triplet excited states originated from the low-lying pi --> pi*, n --> pi*, pi --> sigma* and n --> sigma* excited states of the titled compounds. The present results are compared with those of the previous theoretical studies by methods, such as EOM-CCSD(T), STEOM-CCSD, CASPT2 and TD-B3LYP, etc.  相似文献

A computational approach to the calculation of excited state electronic circular dichroism (ESECD) spectra of chiral molecules is discussed. Frequency dependent quadratic response theory is employed to compute the rotatory strength for transitions between excited electronic states, by employing both a magnetic gauge dependent and a (velocity-based) magnetic gauge independent approach. Application is made to the lowest excited states of two prototypical chiral molecules, propylene oxide, also known as 1,2-epoxypropane or methyl oxirane, and R-(+)-1,1'-bi(2-naphthol), or BINOL. The dependence of the rotatory strength for transitions between the lowest three excited states of methyl oxirane upon the quality and extension of the basis set is analyzed, by employing a hierarchy of correlation consistent basis sets. Once established that basis sets of at least triple zeta quality, and at least doubly augmented, are sufficient to ensure sufficiently converged results, at least at the Hartree-Fock self-consistent field (HF-SCF) level, the rotatory strengths for all transitions between the lowest excited electronic states of methyl oxirane are computed and analyzed, employing HF-SCF, and density functional theory (DFT) electronic structure models. For DFT, both the popular B3LYP and its recently highly successful CAM-B3LYP extension are exploited. The strong dependence of the spectra upon electron correlation is highlighted. A HF-SCF and DFT study is carried out also for BINOL, a system where excited states show the typical pairing structure arising from the interaction of the two monomeric moieties, and whose conformational changes following photoexcitation were studied recently with via time-resolved CD.  相似文献

The purpose of this work is to provide an in-depth interpretation of the optical and electronic properties of a series of phosphole derivatives, including 2,5-diphenylthiooxophosphole (2a), 2-phenyl-5-biphenylthiooxophosphole (3a), 2-phenyl-5-stilbenylthiooxophosphole (4a), 2,5-dithienylthiooxophosphole (2b), 2-thienyl-5-biphenylthiooxophosphole (3b), 2-thienyl-5-stilbenylthiooxophosphole (4b), and dibenzophosphole 1. These thiooxophospholes show great potential for application in OLEDs as efficient red emitters due to the tuning of the optical and electronic properties by the use of various substituents at the 2,5-positions of the phosphole ring. The geometric and electronic structures of the oligomers in the ground state were investigated using density functional theory (DFT) and the ab initio HF, whereas the lowest singlet excited states were optimized with ab initio CIS. To assign the absorption and emission peaks observed in the experiment, we computed the energies of the lowest singlet excited states with time-dependent DFT (TD-DFT). All DFT calculations were performed using the B3LYP functional and the 6-31G (d) basis set. The results show that the HOMOs, LUMOs, energy gaps, ionization potentials, and electron affinities for the phosphole derivatives are significantly affected by varying the phosphole ring substituents at the 2,5-positions, which favor the hole and electron injection into OLEDs. The absorption and emission spectra exhibit red shifts to some extent [the absorption spectra: 339.63 (1)<358.65 (2a)<373.77 (3a)<443.89 nm (4a) and 403.03 (3b)<449.11 (2b)<460.19 nm (4b); the emission spectra: 418.42 (1)<513.62 (2a)<556.51 (3a)<642.59 nm (4a) and 568.31 (2b)<631.11 (3b)<647.35 nm (4b)] and the Stokes shifts are unexpectedly large ranging from 78 to 228 nm resulting from a more planar conformation of the excited state for the phosphole derivatives.  相似文献

The sensitivity of vibronic calculations to electronic structure methods and basis sets is explored and compared to accurate relative intensities of the vibrational bands of phenylacetylene in the S(1)(A(1)B(2)) ← S(0)(X(1)A(1)) transition. To provide a better measure of vibrational band intensities, the spectrum was recorded by cavity ringdown absorption spectroscopy up to energies of 2000 cm(-1) above the band origin in a slit jet sample. The sample rotational temperature was estimated to be about 30 K, but the vibrational temperature was higher, permitting the assignment of many vibrational hot bands. The vibronic structure of the electronic transition was simulated using a combination of time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) electronic structure codes, Franck-Condon integral calculations, and a second-order vibronic model developed previously [Johnson, P. M.; Xu, H. F.; Sears, T. J. J. Chem. Phys. 2006, 125, 164331]. The density functional theory (DFT) functionals B3LYP, CAM-B3LYP, and LC-BLYP were explored. The long-range-corrected functionals, CAM-B3LYP and LC-BLYP, produced better values for the equilibrium geometry transition moment, but overemphasized the vibronic coupling for some normal modes, while B3LYP provided better-balanced vibronic coupling but a poor equilibrium transition moment. Enlarging the basis set made very little difference. The cavity ringdown measurements show that earlier intensities derived from resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization (REMPI) spectra have relative intensity errors.  相似文献

A combined theoretical and experimental study of the structure, optical, and photophysical properties of four 2,7-carbazolenevinylene-based derivatives in solution is presented. Geometry optimizations of the ground states of PCP, PCP-CN, TCT, and TCT-CN were carried out using the density functional theory (DFT/B3LYP/6-31G*). It is found that PCP and TCT are nearly planar in their ground electronic states (S0), whereas the cyano derivatives are more twisted. The nature and the energy of the first singlet-singlet electronic transitions have been obtained from time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) calculations performed on the optimized geometries. For all the compounds, excitation to the S1 state corresponds mainly to the promotion of one electron from the highest-occupied molecular orbital to the lowest-unoccupied molecular orbital, and the S1 <-- S0 electronic transition is strongly allowed and polarized along the long axis of the molecular frame. The optimization (relaxation) of the first singlet excited electronic state (S1) has been done using the restricted configuration interaction (singles) (RCIS/6-31G*) approach. It is observed that all four investigated compounds become more planar in their S1 relaxed excited state. Electronic transition energies from the relaxed excited states have been obtained from TDDFT calculations performed on the S1-optimized geometries. The absorption and fluorescence spectra of the carbazolenevinylenes have been recorded in chloroform. A good agreement is obtained between TDDFT vertical transitions energies and the (0,0) absorption and fluorescence bands. The change from phenylene to thiophene rings as well as the incorporation of cyano substituents induce bathochromic shifts in the absorption and fluorescence spectra. From the analysis of the energy of the frontier molecular orbitals, it is believed that thiophene rings and CN substituents induce some charge-transfer character to the first electronic transition, which is responsible for the red shifts observed. Finally, the fluorescence quantum yield and the lifetime of the compounds in chloroform have been obtained. In sharp contrast with many oligothiophenes, it is observed that TCT possesses a high fluorescence quantum yield. On the other hand, the CN-containing derivatives exhibit much lower fluorescence quantum yields, probably due to the combined influence of steric effects and charge-transfer interactions caused by the cyano groups.  相似文献

1 INTRODUCTION Since the discovery of one-dimensional metallic behavior of tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) with tetracyano- quinodimethane (TCNQ)[1], organic charge-transfer (CT) complexes and CT salts have been intensively studied in search of electrically conducting and superconducting properties[2 ~ 6] which are most unusual for an organic material. The most intriguing property is that it is excellent metal with conducti- vity similar to that of metals at room temperature[7, 8]. In these…  相似文献

The symmetry-adapted cluster-configuration interaction (SAC-CI) method has been used to investigate the optical and geometric properties of the oligomers of poly(para-phenylene vinylene) (PPV) and poly(para-phenylene) (PP). Vertical singlet and triplet absorption spectra and emission spectra have been calculated accurately; the mean average deviation from available experimental results lies within 0.2 eV. The chain length dependence of the transition energies has been improved in comparison to earlier TDDFT and MRSDCI calculations. The present analysis suggests that conventional TDDFT with the B3LYP functional should be used carefully, as it can provide inaccurate estimates of the chain length dependence of the excitation energies of these molecules with long pi conjugation. The T1 state was predicted to be at a lower energy, by 1.0-1.5 eV for PPV and by 0.9-1.7 eV for PP, than the S1 state, which indicates a localized T1 state with large exchange energy. By calculating the SAC-CI electron density difference between the ground and excited states, the geometry relaxations due to excitations can be analyzed in detail using electrostatic force theory. For trans-stilbene, the doubly excited 21Ag state was studied, and the calculated transition energy of 4.99 eV agrees very well with the experimental value of 4.84 eV. In contrast to previous ab initio calculations, we predict this doubly excited 21Ag state to lie above the 11Bu state.  相似文献

Electronic structures and spectroscopic properties of [Pt(trpy)C[triple bond]CR](+) (trpy = 2,2', 6',2' '-terpyridine; R = H (1), CH(2)OH (2), and C(6)H(5) (3) ) are studied by ab initio and DFT methods. The ground- and excited-state structures are optimized by the MP2 and CIS methods, respectively. The absorption and emission spectra in the dichloromethane solution are obtained by using TD-DFT (B3LYP) method associated with the PCM model. The calculations indicate that, for 1-3, the variation of the substituents on the acetylide ligand only slightly changes their structures in ground and excited states but leads to a sizable difference in the electronic structures. In both cases of absorption and emission, the energy levels of HOMOs for 1-3 are sensitive to the substituents on acetylide ligand and increase obviously with the introduction of the electron-donating groups; however, those of trpy-based LUMOs vary slightly. The lowest-energy emissions are attributed to triplet acetylide/Pt --> trpy charge transfer ((3)LLCT/(3)MLCT) transitions and the lowest-energy absorptions and emissions for 1-3 are red-shifted on the order of 1 < 2 < 3 when the electron-donating groups are introduced into the acetylide ligand. By comparison of the results obtained by using different functionals in TD-DFT method, the calculations indicate that the exchange-correlation functionals (B3LYP, B3P86 and B3PW91) involving Becke three parameter hybrid functionals are appropriate for the terpyridyl platinum(II) acetylide complexes to get the relatively satisfactory results for the absorption spectra. The underestimated excitation energies of lowest-lying absorption bands are probably due to insufficient flexibility in TD-DFT method to describe states with large charge transfer.  相似文献

Spectroscopic properties of a ground state nonbonded porphine-buckminsterfullerene (H2P...C60) complex are studied in several different relative orientations of C60 with respect to the porphine plane by using the density functional (DFT) and time-dependent density functional (TDDFT) theories. The geometries and electronic structures of the ground states are optimized with the B3LYP and PBE functionals and a SVP basis set. Excitation energies and oscillator strengths are obtained from the TDDFT calculations. The relative orientation of C60 is found to affect the equilibrium distance between H2P and C60 especially in the case of the PBE functional. The excitation energies of different H2P...C60 complexes are found to be practically the same for the same excitations when the B3LYP functional is used but to differ notably when PBE is used in calculations. Existence of the states related to a photoinduced electron transfer within a porphyrin-fullerene dyad is also studied. All calculations predict a formation of an excited charge-transfer complex state, a locally excited donor (porphine) state, as well as a locally excited acceptor (fullerene) state in the investigated H2P...C60 complexes.  相似文献

The electronic ground and excited states of an asymmetric porphycene, 9-amino-2,7,12,17-tetraphenylporphycene (9-ATPPo), are investigated by electronic structure calculations. Different tautomers are considered to address their contributions to the photophysics of 9-ATPPo. Tautomerization pathways on the ground and excited states are constructed between different isomers. It is found that two trans tautomers are mainly responsible for the absorption and emission spectra of 9-ATPPo. These calculations provide a molecular mechanism to explain recent experimental observations, which show a highly complex Q-band structure in the absorption spectrum and pronounced dual fluorescence in the emission spectrum. Furthermore, the current work shows that tautomerization takes place under the assistance of cavity deformations and that a nonradiative process occurs through weak interstate nonadiabatic couplings near the S(1) minimum rather than strong ones near conical intersections.  相似文献

In order to assess the accuracy of wave-function and density functional theory (DFT) based methods for excited states of the uranyl(VI) UO2(2+) molecule excitation energies and geometries of states originating from excitation from the sigma(u), sigma(g), pi(u), and pi(g) orbitals to the nonbonding 5f(delta) and 5f(phi) have been calculated with different methods. The investigation included linear-response CCSD (LR-CCSD), multiconfigurational perturbation theory (CASSCFCASPT2), size-extensivity corrected multireference configuration interaction (MRCI) and AQCC, and the DFT based methods time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) with different functionals and the hybrid DFTMRCI method. Excellent agreement between all nonperturbative wave-function based methods was obtained. CASPT2 does not give energies in agreement with the nonperturbative wave-function based methods, and neither does TD-DFT, in particular, for the higher excitations. The CAM-B3LYP functional, which has a corrected asymptotic behavior, improves the accuracy especially in the higher region of the electronic spectrum. The hybrid DFTMRCI method performs better than TD-DFT, again compared to the nonperturbative wave-function based results. However, TD-DFT, with common functionals such as B3LYP, yields acceptable geometries and relaxation energies for all excited states compared to LR-CCSD. The structure of excited states corresponding to excitation out of the highest occupied sigma(u) orbital are symmetric while that arising from excitations out of the pi(u) orbitals have asymmetric structures. The distant oxygen atom acquires a radical character and likely becomes a strong proton acceptor. These electronic states may play an important role in photoinduced proton exchange with a water molecule of the aqueous environment.  相似文献
