This study represents the first application of Ag(I) charge transfer complexation in nonaqueous capillary electrophoresis. This method applies the principles of argentation chromatography to nonaqueous electrophoretic separations and is termed “nonaqueous argentation electrophoresis”. Since the separations are performed in 100% nonaqueous media, the advantages of nonaqueous solvents, such as enhanced solubility and flexibility in selectivity enhancement, compared to an aqueous or mixed hydroorganic solvent, are realized. A variety of compounds were separated. Qualitatively, the separation of eleven sulfonamides in 100% acetonitrile is shown to improve greatly upon the addition of Ag(I). These results also show that nonaqueous argentation electrophoresis provides fast, well-resolved separations of compounds, such as N-containing heterocyclics, that can selectively complex with Ag(I). Migration data and separation selectivities of these compounds by nonaqueous argentation electrophoresis were compared to previous aqueous argentation electrophoresis results. Selectivities were found to be significantly different for the two separation media. Ag(I) complexation provides an effective means of manipulating selectivity in nonaqueous capillary electrophoresis.  相似文献

Biocatalysis in nonaqueous media is being used in increasing regularity both in academic and industrial research. A variety of biocatalysts have been used in organic media including enzymes, multi-enzyme systems, and whole cells. In addition, the nonaqueous media has encompassed both monophasic and biphasic solvent systems, enzymes and whole cells in reversed micelles, enzymes and cells in nearly anhydrous (no added water) solvents, and enzymes catalytically active in supercritical fluids and the gas phase. Recent US and overseas patents and scientific literature on biocatalysis in nonaqueous media are surveyed. Patent abstracts are summarized individually, and literature references are divided into major subheadings.  相似文献

Visible spectra of the Ninhydrin chromophore, Ruhemann's purple, were studied in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), formamide, N, N-dimethylformamide (DMF), and pyridine, as well as in mixed aqueous-nonaqueous solvent media. Large differences in both the position of absorption maxima and extinction coefficients for the two bands in the visible spectra in the various solvent media were observed. Both the absorption maxima and the extinction coefficients of the Ninhydrin chromophore were a linear function of the composition of dimethyl sulfoxide-H2O solvent media. The experimental evidence allows predictions of values for the two absorption maxima of Ruhemann's purple as a function of the nature of the solvent medium. In nonaqueous aprotic solvents (i.e., DMSO and DMF), the maxima should be near 605 and 420 mμ; in nonaqueous aprotic solvents capable of undergoing charge-transfer interactions (i.e., pyridine), near 550 and 420 mμ; and in nonaqueous protic solvents (i.e., formamide), near 575 and 410 mμ. The maxima in aprotic media will be displaced to about 575 mμ (higher wavelength band) and 410 mμ (lower wavelength band) on dilution with protic solvents.  相似文献

A review on the advantages, peculiarities, and the potential of enantioselective capillary electrochromatography (CEC) in nonaqueous media is presented. Some fundamentals on CEC with particular focus on enantioselective CEC are discussed. Electronic spectral behavior of polyvinylpyrrolidone solutions in various media has been determined by UV-VIS spectrophotometry. A theoretical approach has been developed to explain the experimentally observed concentration dependent spectral behavior of polyvinyl pyrrolidone in aqueous and nonaqueous solvents. Increase in the concentration of the polymer or the addition of guanidine salts caused bathochromic shift. A similar concentration effect has been observed in nonaqueous media in the absence of guanidine salts.  相似文献

In this work, an ordered mesoporous titania film was introduced to coat a capillary by means of the sol-gel technique. Its electroosmotic flow (EOF) property was investigated in a variety of nonaqueous media (methanol, formamide and N,N'-dimethylformamide and mixtures of methanol and acetonitrile). The titania-coated capillary exhibited a distinctive EOF behavior, the direction and magnitude of which were strongly dependent on various parameters such as the solvent composition, apparent pH (pH*) and the electrolytes. The nonaqueous capillary electrophoresis separation of several alkaloids was investigated in the positively charged titania-coated capillary. Comparison of separation between coated and uncoated capillaries under optimal nonaqueous conditions was also carried out.  相似文献

We report the intrinsic oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity of polycrystalline palladium, platinum, ruthenium, gold, and glassy carbon surfaces in 0.1 M LiClO(4) 1,2-dimethoxyethane via rotating disk electrode measurements. The nonaqueous Li(+)-ORR activity of these surfaces primarily correlates to oxygen adsorption energy, forming a "volcano-type" trend. The activity trend found on the polycrystalline surfaces was in good agreement with the trend in the discharge voltage of Li-O(2) cells catalyzed by nanoparticle catalysts. Our findings provide insights into Li(+)-ORR mechanisms in nonaqueous media and design of efficient air electrodes for Li-air battery applications.  相似文献

It has been suggested to use suspensions of solid samples in viscous liquids for the determination of the elemental composition by the total reflection X-ray fluorescence (TRXF) method. Two liquids—ethylene glycol and glycerol—have been studied as a dispersion phase. It turned out that the sedimentation stability of suspensions in these liquids is higher than in water. During 5 min of sedimentation, the suspended analyte concentration changes by 10–15 rel. % in nonaqueous media and by up to 50 rel. % in aqueous media. It has been determined that the repeatability of measurements in nonaqueous suspensions is 3–5 rel. % against 10–15 rel. % for aqueous suspensions. It has been demonstrated that ethylene glycol and glycerol can be efficiently used for preparing samples for the TRXF method.  相似文献

Nonaqueous capillary electrophoresis (NACE) is a relatively new area with several advantages that include enhanced efficiency and improved detection sensitivity. The goal of this study was to investigate the influence of NACE compared to aqueous CE on the separation efficiency of oligosaccharides. The applied voltage and buffer concentration were optimized for the aqueous and nonaqueous buffer media to minimize the band broadening effects of Joule heating and electrophoretic dispersion. At the optimized conditions a 1.5-fold enhancement in efficiency was obtained with the nonaqueous buffer medium.  相似文献

Polymerization of methyl methacrylate was carried out in aqueous and nonaqueous media in the presence of some sulfonated and carboxylic organic compounds, hydroxyl radicals generated from hydrogen peroxide being used as initiators of polymerization. The occurrence of radical transfer reactions by way of hydrogen atom abstraction from the organic substrates by the ?H radicals was demonstrated by the detection of sulfonate and carboxyl endgroups in the respective polymers. It was found that the radical transfer reactions were more favored in aqueous media than in nonaqueous systems.  相似文献

To enhance the redispersibility of dried nanocellulose, cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) cryogels were produced by freeze-drying CNC-stabilized cyclohexane-in-water Pickering emulsions. (The spectrophotometric determination of phenolic compounds in vegetable extracts by oxidation with copper(II) in nonaqueous media)Oxidation with copper(II) in nonaqueous medium is used for the o-diphenolic compounds chlorogenic acid, rutin, pyrocatechol and epicatechol. A spectrophotometric study of the o-diphenol and o-quinone forms leads to the establishment of two systems of equations for the determination of these compounds. The absorption spectra of nitroanilines (o-, m- and p-) in aqueous and nonaqueous solution of neutral surfactant-Triton X-100 (TX-100) reveal many interesting phenomena. Nitroanilines and TX-100 behave as electron acceptor and donor, respectively, in both media during charge-transfer (CT) complex formation though water plays an important role in aqueous media. The thermodynamic and spectrophotometric parameters of nitroanilines-TX-100 interactions in two media have been determined and the electron accepting capability among the nitroanilines have been also established. One of the drawbacks of nonaqueous enzymology is the fact that enzymes tend to be less stable in organic solvents than in water. There are, however, some enzymes that display very high stabilities in nonaqueous media. In order to take full advantage of the use of nonaqueous solvents in enzyme catalysis, it is essential to elucidate the molecular basis of enzyme stability in these media. Toward this end, we performed μs-long molecular dynamics simulations using two homologous proteases, pseudolysin, and thermolysin, which are known to have considerably different stabilities in solutions containing ethanol. The analysis of the simulations indicates that pseudolysin is more stable than thermolysin in ethanol/water mixtures and that the disulfide bridge between C30 and C58 is important for the stability of the former enzyme, which is consistent with previous experimental observations. Our results indicate that thermolysin has a higher tendency to interact with ethanol molecules (especially through van der Waals contacts) than pseudolysin, which can lead to the disruption of intraprotein hydrophobic interactions and ultimately result in protein unfolding. In the absence of the C30-C58 disulfide bridge, pseudolysin undergoes larger conformational changes, becoming more open and more permeable to ethanol molecules which accumulate in its interior and form hydrophobic interactions with the enzyme, destroying its structure. Our observations are not only in good agreement with several previous experimental findings on the stability of the enzymes studied in ethanol/water mixtures but also give an insight on the molecular determinants of this stability. Our findings may, therefore, be useful in the rational development of enzymes with increased stability in these media.  相似文献

Intermolecular interactions involving hydrogen bonds are responsible for catalysis and recognition. Traditional methods used to study hydrogen-bonding interactions are generally limited to relatively large volumes and high substrate concentrations.
