The magnetoresistance in zinc-manganese ferrites in the vicinity of the Curie point

The paper describes an exact method for measuring the adiabatic and isothermal magnetoresistant effects in ferrites. It gives the results of studying the temperature dependence of the magnetoresistant effect, which is negative near the Curie point in ferrites and the temperature dependence of which has a maximum of absolute values inT _c . It is also shown that the pronounced maximum of the adiabatic magnetoresistant effect is to a certain extent caused by the magnetocaloric effect. When measuring the dependence of the magnetoresistant effect on the field strength for a temperature equal toT _c , certain small deviations from the theoretically assumed dependence were found; the influence of different factors on these deviations is discussed and a proposal for their explanation is given in analogy to the results known for metals.

The local sensitivity of photo-multiplier photo-cathodes

The influence of the non-uniform distribution of the sensitivity of a photo-multiplier photo-cathode on the spectrum shape of the output pulses from a scintillation detector is studied. Methods of scanning the local sensitivity and determining its distribution function are described. The theory was compared qualitatively with measurement on a slow-neutron detector from a mixture of zinc sulphate and boric acid.

Die magnetische Suszeptibilität der ternären Systeme halbleitender Verbindungen

Zusammenfassung Im vorliegenden Artikel wird der Versuch unternommen, die für die Suszeptibilität der binären Systeme zutreffenden empirischen Beziehungen auf die ternären halbleitenden Systeme auszudehnen. Die Richtigkeit der Erwägungen wird an den Systemen Zn-Cd-Sb, In-Ga-Te und an einigen festen Lösungen anderer halbleitender Verbindungen überprüft. Im Artikel wird weiter gezeigt, daß sich im Falle, wenn sich die Suszeptibilitäten der Komponenten des ternären Systems additiv verhalten, zur Berechnung der molaren Suszeptibilität einer festen Lösung die Mischungsregel verwenden läßt, was im Gegenteil in diesem Falle als Kriterium dienen kann, ob zwei den Erfordernissen der Additivität der Suszeptibilitäten der Bestandteile Genüge leistende Stoffe eine feste Lösung oder ein mehrphasiges System bilden.

X-ray diffraction on denatured ferritin

Denatured ferritin, in contrast to other denatured corpuscular proteins, gives several diffractions, even in the regiond>15 Å. These diffractions correspond to the mutual arrangement of the micelles and proteinic component of ferritin. Diffractions in the regiond<15 Å correspond both to the internal structure of the denatured proteinic component — apoferritin — and to the internal structure of ferric micelles of ferritin. Regions containing only the denatured proteinic component with polypeptide chains in-configuration, occur in the structure of denatured ferritin in addition to the crystallites or crystalline regions with regular arrangement of micelles and the proteinic component.
