Oxygen vacancies are common to most metal oxides, whether intentionally incorporated or otherwise, and the study of these defects is of increasing interest for solar water splitting. In this work, we examine nanostructured WO3 photoanodes of varying oxygen content to determine how the concentration of bulk oxygen-vacancy states affects the photocatalytic performance for water oxidation. Using transient optical spectroscopy, we follow the charge carrier recombination kinetics in these samples, from picoseconds to seconds, and examine how differing oxygen vacancy concentrations impact upon these kinetics. We find that samples with an intermediate concentration of vacancies (∼2% of oxygen atoms) afford the greatest photoinduced charge carrier densities, and the slowest recombination kinetics across all timescales studied. This increased yield of photogenerated charges correlates with improved photocurrent densities under simulated sunlight, with both greater and lesser oxygen vacancy concentrations resulting in enhanced recombination losses and poorer JV performances. Our conclusion, that an optimal – neither too high nor too low – concentration of oxygen vacancies is required for optimum photoelectrochemical performance, is discussed in terms of the competing beneficial and detrimental impact these defects have on charge separation and transport, as well as the implications held for other highly doped materials for photoelectrochemical water oxidation.

A medium concentration of oxygen vacancies (VO ≈ 2%) is critical to the performance of WO3 photoanodes for solar water oxidation, enhancing charge separation and reducing recombination across all timescales examined.  相似文献

Improving the photo-induced charge transfer (PICT) efficiency is the key factor for boosting the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) performance of semiconductor nanomaterials. Introducing plentiful surface defect states in porous ZnO nanosheets (d-ZnO NSs) effectively provides additional charge transfer routes for highly efficient PICT within the substrate–molecule system. Significantly, an interesting phenomenon of low temperature-boosted SERS activity of these d-ZnO NSs is consequently observed. The enhanced SERS activity can be attributed to the efficient PICT processes due to the significant reduction of non-radiative recombination of surface defects at a low temperature. This is carefully investigated through combining in situ low-temperature SERS measurements with temperature-dependent photoluminescence (PL) emission spectroscopy. Our results clearly demonstrate that the weakened lattice thermal vibration at a low temperature effectively suppresses the phonon-assisted relaxation and reduces carrier traps, resulting in the increase of PL intensity. The decreased traps of photo-induced electrons at surface defect states effectively facilitate the PICT efficiency within the substrate–molecule system. An ultrahigh enhancement factor of 7.7 × 105 and low limit of detection (1 × 10−7 M) for a 4-mercaptopyridine molecule at a temperature of 77 K are successfully obtained. More importantly, the low temperature-enhanced SERS effect is also obtainable in other metal oxide semiconductors, such as d-TiO2 and d-Cu2O nanoparticles. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time the low temperature-boosted SERS activity of semiconductors has been observed. This study not only provides a deep insight into the chemical SERS mechanism, but also develops a novel strategy for improving semiconductor SERS sensitivity. The strong SERS activity at a low temperature reported here may open new avenues for developing non-metal SERS substrates with new functionalities, especially for the research on cryogenic sensing and hypothermal medicine.

The boosted SERS activity is attributed to a high-efficiency PICT process due to the significant reduction of non-radiative recombination at a low temperature.  相似文献

High‐resolution scanning electrochemical cell microscopy (SECCM) is used to image and quantitatively analyze the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) catalytically active sites of 1H‐MoS2 nanosheets, MoS2, and WS2 heteronanosheets. Using a 20 nm radius nanopipette and hopping mode scanning, the resolution of SECCM was beyond the optical microscopy limit and visualized a small triangular MoS2 nanosheet with a side length of ca. 130 nm. The electrochemical cell provides local cyclic voltammograms with a nanoscale spatial resolution for visualizing HER active sites as electrochemical images. The HER activity difference of edge, terrace, and heterojunction of MoS2 and WS2 were revealed. The SECCM imaging directly visualized the relationship of HER activity and number of MoS2 nanosheet layers and unveiled the heterogeneous aging state of MoS2 nanosheets. SECCM can be used for improving local HER activities by producing sulfur vacancies using electrochemical reaction at the selected region.  相似文献

Practically important metal electrodes are usually polycrystalline, comprising surface grains of many different crystallographic orientations, as well as grain boundaries. In this study, scanning electrochemical cell microscopy (SECCM) is applied in tandem with co-located electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) to give a holistic view of the relationship between the surface structure and the electrochemical activity and corrosion susceptibility of polycrystalline Cu. An unusual aqueous nanodroplet/oil (dodecane)/metal three-phase configuration is employed, which opens up new prospects for fundamental studies of multiphase electrochemical systems, and mimics the environment of corrosion in certain industrial and automotive applications. In this configuration, the nanodroplet formed at the end of the SECCM probe (nanopipette) is surrounded by dodecane, which acts as a reservoir for oil-soluble species (e.g., O2) and can give rise to enhanced flux(es) across the immiscible liquid–liquid interface, as shown by finite element method (FEM) simulations. This unique three-phase configuration is used to fingerprint nanoscale corrosion in a nanodroplet cell, and to analyse the interrelationship between the Cu oxidation, Cu2+ deposition and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) processes, together with nanoscale open circuit (corrosion) potential, in a grain-by-grain manner. Complex patterns of surface reactivity highlight the important role of grains of high-index orientation and microscopic surface defects (e.g., microscratches) in modulating the corrosion-properties of polycrystalline Cu. This work provides a roadmap for in-depth surface structure–function studies in (electro)materials science and highlights how small variations in surface structure (e.g., crystallographic orientation) can give rise to large differences in nanoscale reactivity.

Probing Cu corrosion in an aqueous nanodroplet/oil/metal three-phase environment revealed unique patterns of surface reactivity. The electrochemistry of high-index facets cannot be predicted simply from the low-index {001}, {011} and {111} responses.

Corrosion has long been studied, as a significant concern and a costly issue (ca. 3% of the GDP of industrialised countries) for the modern world.1,2 For metals, in particular, electrochemical techniques, allied to complementary analytical and microscopy methods, play a central role in unveiling corrosion and corrosion protection mechanisms.3–7 However, a limitation of many experimental approaches is that the electrochemical perturbation (and measurement) is applied globally at a macroscopic electrode immersed in a bulk solution,8 but most corrosion processes are initiated and perpetuated at (sub)microscopic surface sites (e.g., grain boundaries, inclusions, microscratches etc.).9–14 Mismatch between the scale of key corrosion phenomena and conventional electrochemical methods makes it difficult to unambiguously identify the key anodic/cathodic sites driving corrosion. This issue is compounded for the case of atmospheric corrosion,15 or corrosion in certain automotive/industrial environments (vide infra),16,17 which take place due to the action of small droplets on the surface in a confined system. Corrosion science needs electrochemical techniques that operate at the (sub)microscale, and allow activity and surface structure to be correlated commensurately at this scale.Among the limited library of electrochemical techniques that can routinely operate at the (sub)microscale,18,19 scanning electrochemical cell microscopy (SECCM) is attracting significant attention.20–22 SECCM maps electrochemistry locally and directly via a nanoscale electrochemical meniscus cell (formed at the end of a fluidic probe) that makes measurements over an array of points (typically thousands of discrete areas) on an electrode (or other) surface. For polycrystalline surfaces, SECCM measurements are powerfully combined with co-located electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD), to elucidate nanoscale structure–activity, as exemplified by studies of various electrochemical processes at a range of polycrystalline materials, including Pt,23–26 Au,27 Pd,28 low carbon steel,29–31 Zn32 and boron-doped diamond.33In addition to its high spatiotemporal resolution, the meniscus cell configuration of SECCM facilitates rapid reactant/product exchange with the surrounding environment, mimicking a gas diffusion electrode, with an enhanced flux of gases into the meniscus cell (i.e., at the three-phase boundary).24,27,34 When operated in air, SECCM emulates the configuration of atmospheric corrosion, with gas exchange (e.g., oxygen, O2) taking place across the liquid/gas interface of the meniscus in contact with a surface of interest. As recently reported, and expanded upon herein, SECCM can also be operated under oil immersion,32,35 which not only aids in confinement of the meniscus cell during prolonged measurements,35 but also opens up the possibility of studying the effect of oil-soluble species (e.g., corrosion inhibitors, organic contaminants, redox mediators etc.) on local reactions at the solid/liquid/liquid interface with high spatial-resolution. This configuration is regaining interest for fundamental studies,36,37 as well as being of great practical importance (e.g., phase-transfer reactions in industrial chemical processes, biology etc.).38A key attribute of SECCM is that a number of conventional dynamic electrochemistry techniques (e.g., potentiometry, amperometry and voltammetry) can be translated readily to the confines of the meniscus cell.20,22,39 Herein, the versatility of chronopotentiometry for local corrosion and electrochemical measurements is demonstrated. First, it is possible to make meniscus contact at zero applied current, corresponding to open circuit potential (OCP), which is measured. This corresponds to the corrosion (mixed) potential, where the rate of anodic dissolution of the metal (forming metal ions) and the rate of reduction of oxygen are balanced. Surface ion release under this condition is then analysed by subsequent “electrochemical titration” of a portion of the released metal ions, by applying a cathodic current and recording the resulting chronopotentiometric curve.40 This allows the evaluation of intrinsic corrosion susceptibility, in situ, with high spatial-resolution, for the entire range of crystallographic orientations of a polycrystalline metal (i.e., revealed through co-located EBSD analysis). Chronopotentiometry measurements with and without O2 present, and the use of an anodic pulse to induce the anodic dissolution (as well as the cathodic measurements mentioned) allow all of the key electrochemical processes underpinning localised corrosion to be studied. The patterns of surface reactivity establish the intimate link between corrosion susceptibility, electrochemical kinetics and surface structure at the nanoscale.  相似文献

Charge carrier mobility is an important figure of merit to evaluate organic semiconductor (OSC) materials. In aggregated OSCs, this quantity is determined by inter-chromophoric electronic and vibrational coupling. These key parameters sensitively depend on structural properties, including the density of defects. We have employed a new type of crystalline assembly strategy to engineer the arrangement of the OSC pentacene in a structure not realized as crystals to date. Our approach is based on metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), in which suitably substituted pentacenes act as ditopic linkers and assemble into highly ordered π-stacks with long-range order. Layer-by-layer fabrication of the MOF yields arrays of electronically coupled pentacene chains, running parallel to the substrate surface. Detailed photophysical studies reveal strong, anisotropic inter-pentacene electronic coupling, leading to efficient charge delocalization. Despite a high degree of structural order and pronounced dispersion of the 1D-bands for the static arrangement, our experimental results demonstrate hopping-like charge transport with an activation energy of 64 meV dominating the band transport over a wide range of temperatures. A thorough combined quantum mechanical and molecular dynamics investigation identifies frustrated localized rotations of the pentacene cores as the reason for the breakdown of band transport and paves the way for a crystal engineering strategy of molecular OSCs that independently varies the arrangement of the molecular cores and their vibrational degrees of freedom.

Pentacene assembled into 1D arrays using a metal–organic framework (MOF) approach. This cofacial packing motif, which is not present in pentacene bulk, shows an interesting interplay of band-like and hopping-type transport.  相似文献

High proton conducting electrolytes with mechanical moldability are a key material for energy devices. We propose an approach for creating a coordination polymer (CP) glass from a protic ionic liquid for a solid-state anhydrous proton conductor. A protic ionic liquid (dema)(H2PO4), with components which also act as bridging ligands, was applied to construct a CP glass (dema)0.35[Zn(H2PO4)2.35(H3PO4)0.65]. The structural analysis revealed that large Zn–H2PO4/H3PO4 coordination networks formed in the CP glass. The network formation results in enhancement of the properties of proton conductivity and viscoelasticity. High anhydrous proton conductivity (σ = 13.3 mS cm−1 at 120 °C) and a high transport number of the proton (0.94) were achieved by the coordination networks. A fuel cell with this CP glass membrane exhibits a high open-circuit voltage and power density (0.15 W cm−2) under dry conditions at 120 °C due to the conducting properties and mechanical properties of the CP glass.

A proton-conducting coordination polymer glass derived from a protic ionic liquid works as a moldable solid electrolyte and the anhydrous fuel cell showed IV performance of 0.15 W cm−2 at 120 °C.  相似文献

Photovoltage and photocurrents below theoretical limits in dye-sensitized photoelectrochemical solar energy conversion systems are usually attributed to electron loss processes such as dye–electron and electrolyte–electron recombination reactions within the porous photoanode. Whether recombination is a major loss mechanism is examined here, using a multiscale reaction–diffusion computational model to evaluate system characteristics. The dye-sensitized solar cell with an I/I3 redox couple is chosen as a simple, representative model system because of the extensive information available for it. Two photoanode architectures with dye excitation frequencies spanning 1–25 s−1 are examined, assuming two distinct recombination mechanisms. The simulation results show that although electrolyte–electron reactions are very efficient, they do not significantly impact photoanode performance within the system as defined. This is because the solution-phase electrolyte chemistry plays a key role in mitigating electron losses through coupled reactions that produce I within the photoanode pores, thereby cycling the electrolyte species without requiring that all electrolyte reduction reactions take place at the more distantly located cathode. This is a functionally adaptive response of the chemistry that may be partly responsible for the great success of this redox couple for dye-sensitized solar cells. The simulation results provide predictions that can be tested experimentally.

Interfacial electrolyte reactions in the pores of a photoanode consume electrons. The losses are offset by compensating solution-phase reactions that generate I locally, and promote efficient dye cycling and photocurrent generation.  相似文献

Trap-dominated non-radiative charge recombination is one of the key factors that limit the performance of perovskite solar cells (PSCs), which was widely studied in methylammonium (MA) containing PSCs. However, there is a need to elucidate the defect chemistry of thermally stable, MA-free, cesium/formamidinium (Cs/FA)-based perovskites. Herein, we show that d-penicillamine (PA), an edible antidote for treating heavy metal ions, not only effectively passivates the iodine vacancies (Pb2+ defects) through coordination with the –SH and –COOH groups in PA, but also finely tunes the crystallinity of Cs/FA-based perovskite film. Benefiting from these merits, a reduction of non-radiative recombination and an increase in photoluminescence lifetime have been achieved. As a result, the champion MA-free device exhibits an impressive power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 22.4%, an open-circuit voltage of 1.163 V, a notable fill factor of 82%, and excellent long-term operational stability. Moreover, the defect passivation strategy can be further extended to a mini module (substrate: 4 × 4 cm2, active area: 7.2 cm2) as well as a wide-bandgap (∼1.73 eV) Cs/FA perovskite system by delivering PCEs of 16.3% and 20.2%, respectively, demonstrating its universality in defect passivation for efficient PSCs.

Iodine vacancy defects in MA-free perovskite are effectively passivated through the interaction between Pb2+ and the functional groups in d-penicillamine, resulting in an impressive efficiency of 22.4% along with excellent operational stability.  相似文献

An unprecedented γ-carboxylation of α-CF3 alkenes with CO2 is reported. This approach constitutes a rare example of using electrochemical methods to achieve regioselectivity complementary to conventional metal catalysis. Accordingly, using platinum plate as both a working cathode and a nonsacrificial anode in a user-friendly undivided cell under constant current conditions, the γ-carboxylation provides efficient access to vinylacetic acids bearing a gem-difluoroalkene moiety from a broad range of substrates. The synthetic utility is further demonstrated by gram-scale synthesis and elaboration to several value-added products. Cyclic voltammetry and density functional theory calculations were performed to provide mechanistic insights into the reaction.

Membrane technologies hold great potential for industrial gas separation. Nevertheless, plasticization, a common phenomenon that is responsible for the loss of gas pair selectivity and the decrease of membrane lifespan, is one of the top challenges withholding the deployment of advanced membrane materials in realistic applications. Here, we report a highly generalizable approach, that utilizes PgC5Cu, a copper metal–organic nanocapsule (MONC) containing 24 open metal sites (OMSs) as a multi-dentate node to coordinatively crosslink polymers. By adding merely 1–3 wt% of PgC5Cu, a wide range of carbonyl group-containing polymers can be effectively crosslinked. Through rigorous dissolution tests, molecular dynamic simulations, and in situ FT-IR spectroscopy, we qualitatively and quantitatively unveiled the coordinative binding nature at the polymer–MONC interface. As a result, we produced a series of composite membranes showing near complete plasticization resistance to CO2, C2H4, and C2H6 under high pressure with no loss of mechanical and gas transport properties.

Ultra-small metal–organic nanocapsules (MONCs) with open metal sites (OMSs) are used as multi-dentate nodes to form coordinative crosslinking networks with polymers.  相似文献

Picosecond to millisecond laser time-resolved transient absorption spectroscopy was used to study molecular oxygen (O2) rebinding and conformational relaxation following O2 photodissociation in the α and β subunits within human hemoglobin in the quaternary R-like structure. Oxy-cyanomet valency hybrids, α2(Fe2+–O22(Fe3+–CN) and α2(Fe3+–CN)β2(Fe2+–O2), were used as models for oxygenated R-state hemoglobin. An extended kinetic model for geminate O2 rebinding in the ferrous hemoglobin subunits, ligand migration between the primary and secondary docking site(s), and nonexponential tertiary relaxation within the R quaternary structure, was introduced and discussed. Significant functional non-equivalence of the α and β subunits in both the geminate O2 rebinding and concomitant structural relaxation was revealed. For the β subunits, the rate constant for the geminate O2 rebinding to the unrelaxed tertiary structure and the tertiary transition rate were found to be greater than the corresponding values for the α subunits. The conformational relaxation following the O2 photodissociation in the α and β subunits was found to decrease the rate constant for the geminate O2 rebinding, this effect being more than one order of magnitude greater for the β subunits than for the α subunits. Evidence was provided for the modulation of the O2 rebinding to the individual α and β subunits within human hemoglobin in the R-state structure by the intrinsic heme reactivity through a change in proximal constraints upon the relaxation of the tertiary structure on a picosecond to microsecond time scale. Our results demonstrate that, for native R-state oxyhemoglobin, O2 rebinding properties and spectral changes following the O2 photodissociation can be adequately described as the sum of those for the α and β subunits within the valency hybrids. The isolated β chains (hemoglobin H) show similar behavior to the β subunits within the valency hybrids and can be used as a model for the β subunits within the R-state oxyhemoglobin. At the same time, the isolated α chains behave differently to the α subunits within the valency hybrids.

O2 rebinding and conformational relaxation following O2 photodissociation were studied on picosecond to millisecond time scale in the α and β subunits within human hemoglobin in the quaternary R-like structure.  相似文献

Here, we report multinuclear organometallic molecular wires having (2,5-diethynylthiophene)diyl-Ru(dppe)2 repeating units. Despite the molecular dimensions of 2–4 nm the multinuclear wires show high conductance (up to 10−2 to 10−3G0) at the single-molecule level with small attenuation factors (β) as revealed by STM-break junction measurements. The high performance can be attributed to the efficient energy alignment between the Fermi level of the metal electrodes and the HOMO levels of the multinuclear molecular wires as revealed by DFT–NEGF calculations. Electrochemical and DFT studies reveal that the strong Ru–Ru interaction through the bridging ligands raises the HOMO levels to access the Fermi level, leading to high conductance and small β values.

Uncertainty regarding the nature of structural defects in hematite and their specific impacts on material properties and photoelectrocatalytic water oxidation inhibits their development as photoanodes. We perform structure–property analysis on a series of hematite films fabricated by annealing lepidocrocite films with varied temperatures, annealing times and atmospheres and find a gradient in the magnitude of a crystal lattice distortion by tracking the relative intensity of a formally Raman inactive vibrational mode. Structure–property analysis reveals that this feature in the Raman spectrum correlates to photocurrent density, semiconductor band positions, and the onset of photoelectrocatalysis. We propose that the onset of photoelectrocatalysis is linked to the location of defects that act as intraband recombination sites; an increase in the degree of structural distortion shifts these states towards the conduction band, thereby facilitating recombination. Analysis of the nature of the key Raman vibrations, X-ray diffraction patterns, and the synthetic conditions leads us to assign the distortion to iron vacancies that are induced by the trapping of protons within the crystal lattice. The ability to rapidly diagnose a specific structural defect will aid in the optimization of fabrication protocols for hematite photoanodes.

Features in Raman spectra are found to correlate to the band structure and photoelectrochemical behavior across a series of hematite photoanodes. Analysis suggests the presence of iron vacancies caused by the trapping of interstitial protons.  相似文献

Thermal control in low-emission windows is achieved by the application of glazings, which are simultaneously optically transparent in the visible and reflective in the near-infrared (IR). This phenomenon is characteristic of coatings with wide optical band gaps that have high enough charge carrier concentrations for the material to interact with electromagnetic radiation in the IR region. While conventional low-E coatings are composed of sandwiched structures of oxides and thin Ag films or of fluorinated SnO2 coatings, ZnO-based glazing offers an environmentally stable and economical alternative with competitive optoelectronic properties. In this work, gallium-doped zinc oxide (GZO) coatings with properties for low-E coatings that exceed industrial standards (Tvisible > 82%; R2500 nm > 90%; λ(plasma) = 1290 nm; ρ = 4.7 × 10−4 Ω cm; Rsh = 9.4 Ω·□−1) are deposited through a sustainable and environmentally friendly halogen-free deposition route from [Ga(acac)3] and a pre-organized zinc oxide precursor [EtZnOiPr]4 (1) via single-pot aerosol-assisted chemical vapor deposition. GZO films are highly (002)-textured, smooth and compact without need of epitaxial growth. The method herein describes the synthesis of coatings with opto-electronic properties commonly achievable only through high-vacuum methods, and provides an alternative to the use of pyrophoric ZnEt2 and halogenated SnO2 coatings currently used in low-emission glazing and photovoltaic technology.

A pre-organised and halogen-free ZnO precursor is used to deposit GZO coatings via aerosol-assisted CVD with properties that exceed industrial standards for low-E coatings and photovoltaics.  相似文献

Tubularenes
We report the synthesis and characterization of conjugated, conformationally rigid, and electroactive carbon-based nanotubes that we term tubularenes. These structures are constructed from a resorcin[nb]arene base. Cyclization of the conjugated aromatic nanotube is achieved in one-pot eight-fold C–C bond formation via Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling. DFT calculations indicate a buildup of strain energy in excess of 90 kcal mol−1. The resulting architectures contain large internal void spaces >260 Å3, are fluorescent, and able to accept up to 4 electrons. This represents the first scaffolding approach that provides conjugated nanotube architectures.

Tin oxide (SnO2) is the most attractive alternative to titanium oxide (TiO2) with the aim of identifying a more positive conduction band material for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs). This study puts forward a protocol based on grinding, sonication, and centrifuge to generate transparent SnO2 pastes to minimize light reflectance losses from the metal oxide. Under optimized conditions, a highly transparent film with substantially enhanced light penetration depth through active layer SnO2 is realized for efficient light harvesting from two different commercially available powders (18 and 35 nm nanoparticle sizes). A ruthenium sensitizer ( B11 ) and two organic sensitizers ( NL3 and MK2 ) are shown to achieve higher or comparable photocurrent densities with SnO2 relative to standard TiO2-based DSCs. SnO2-based DSCs show minimum recombination losses, comparable charge collection efficiencies, and minimal photovoltage losses relative to TiO2 DSCs. Thus, the option of a transparent metal oxide, which can facilitate high photocurrents (>16 mA cm−2 observed) and lower recombination rates than TiO2 is an attractive material for DSC applications.  相似文献

MoS2 nanodots are emerging as promising semiconductor materials for optoelectronic devices. However, most of the recent attention is focused on the fabrication of MoS2 nanodots, and the survey for exciton dynamics of MoS2 nanodots remains less explored. Herein, we use femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy to investigate the carrier dynamics of MoS2 nanodots. Our results show that defect-assisted carrier recombination processes are well consistent with the observed dynamics. The photo-excited carriers are captured by defects with at least two different capture rates via Auger scattering. Four processes are deemed to take part in the carrier relaxation. After photoexcitation, carrier cooling occurs instantly within ~0.5 ps. Then most of carriers are fast captured by the defects, and the corresponding time constant increases from ~4.9 ps to ~9.2 ps with increasing pump fluence, which may be interpreted by saturation of the defect states. Next a small quantity of carriers is captured by the other kinds of defects with a relatively slow carrier capture time within ~65 ps. Finally, the remaining small fraction of carriers relaxes via direct interband electron-hole recombination within ~1 ns. Our results may lead to deep insight into the fundamentals of carrier dynamics in MoS2 nanodots, paving the way for their further applications.  相似文献

CO2 methanation is an important reaction in CO2 valorization. Because of the high kinetic barriers, the reaction usually needs to proceed at higher temperature (>300 °C). High-efficiency CO2 methanation at low temperature (<200 °C) is an interesting topic, and only several noble metal catalysts were reported to achieve this goal. Currently, design of cheap metal catalysts that can effectively accelerate this reaction at low temperature is still a challenge. In this work, we found that the amorphous Co–Zr0.1–B–O catalyst could catalyze the reaction at above 140 °C. The activity of the catalyst at 180 °C reached 10.7 mmolCO2 gcat−1 h−1, which is comparable to or even higher than that of some noble metal catalysts under similar conditions. The Zr promoter in this work had the highest promoting factor to date among the catalysts for CO2 methanation. As far as we know, this is the first report of an amorphous transition metal catalyst that could effectively accelerate CO2 methanation. The outstanding performance of the catalyst could be ascribed to two aspects. The amorphous nature of the catalyst offered abundant surface defects and intrinsic active sites. On the other hand, the Zr promoter could enlarge the surface area of the catalyst, enrich the Co atoms on the catalyst surface, and tune the valence state of the atoms at the catalyst surface. The reaction mechanism was proposed based on the control experiments.

It is discovered that an amorphous transition metal catalyst Co–Zr0.1–B–O could effectively accelerate CO2 methanation, at a rate that is comparable to or even higher than that of some noble metal catalysts under similar conditions.  相似文献

Polymeric carbon nitride (PCN) has been widely used as a metal-free photocatalyst for solar hydrogen generation from water. However, rapid charge carrier recombination and sluggish water catalysis kinetics have greatly limited its photocatalytic performance for overall water splitting. Herein, a single-atom Ni terminating agent was introduced to coordinate with the heptazine units of PCN to create new hybrid orbitals. Both theoretical calculation and experimental evidence revealed that the new hybrid orbitals synergistically broadened visible light absorption via a metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) process, and accelerated the separation and transfer of photoexcited electrons and holes. The obtained single-atom Ni terminated PCN (PCNNi), without an additional cocatalyst loading, realized efficient photocatalytic overall water splitting into easily-separated gas-product H2 and liquid-product H2O2 under visible light, with evolution rates reaching 26.6 and 24.0 μmol g−1 h−1, respectively. It was indicated that single-atom Ni and the neighboring C atom served as water oxidation and reduction active sites, respectively, for overall water splitting via a two-electron reaction pathway.

Single-atom Ni terminating agent is introduced to coordinate with sp2 or sp3 N atoms in the heptazine units of PCN, realizing visible-light photocatalytic overall water splitting to H2O2 and H2 without additional cocatalyst.  相似文献
