Nonlinear coupling between torsional and both in-plane and out-of-plane flexural motion is examined for inextensional beams (or beam-like structures) whose torsional and flexural eigenfrequencies are of the same order. The analysis presented here is based on a consistent set of nonlinear differential equations which contain both curvature and inertia nonlinearities, and account for torsional dynamics. Response characteristics, including stability, are determined for cantilever beams subjected to a lateral periodic excitation. The beam's response in the presence of a one-to-one internal resonance involving a torsional frequency and an in-plane bending frequency is investigated in detail.  相似文献

An enhanced mechanical model for simulating ship body oscillations and both the induced fluxural and twisting vibrations of the hull in the case of longitudinal seas is presented. The onset of parametric rolling, which may result from nonlinearly coupled heave-pitch-roll motions, and the effects of bending and torsional elasticity of the hull are considered in detail. It is shown that in the above sea conditions the flexural and/or twisting vibrations are likely to occur under a mechanism similar to that of parametric rolling.  相似文献

The nonlinear dynamics of a clamped-clamped/sliding inextensional elastic beam subject to a harmonic axial load is investigated. The Galerkin method is used on the coupled bending-bending-torsional nonlinear equations with inertial and geometric nonlinearities and the resulting two second order ordinary differential equations are studied by the method of multiple time seales and by direct numerical integration. The amplitude equations are analyzed for steady and Hopf bifurcations. Depending on the amplitude of excitation, the damping and the ratio of principal flexural rigidities, various qualitatively distinct frequency response diagrams are uncovered and limit cycles and chaotic motions are found. In the truncated two-degree-of-freedom system the transition from periodic to chaotic amplitude-modulated motions is via the process of torus doubling and subsequent destruction of the torus.  相似文献

The dynamics of a modified Jeffcott rotor is studied, including rotor torsional deformation and rotor-stator contact. Conditions are studied under which the rotor undergoes either forward synchronous whirling or self-excited backward whirling motions with continuous stator contact. For forward whirling, the effect on the response is investigated for two commonly used rotor-stator friction models, namely, the simple Coulomb friction and a generalized Coulomb law with cubic dependence on the relative slip velocity. For cases with and without the rotor torsional degree of freedom, analytical estimates and numerical bifurcation analyses are used to map out regions in the space of drive speed and a friction parameter, where rotor-stator contact exists. The nature of the bifurcations in which stability is lost are highlighted. For forward synchronous whirling fold, Hopf, lift-off, and period-doubling bifurcations are encountered. Additionally, for backward whirling, regions of transitions from pure sticking to stick-slip oscillations are numerically delineated.  相似文献

The deviation from the classical elastic characteristics induced by the free surface energy can be considerable for nanostructures due to the high surface to volume ratio. Consequently, this type of size dependency should be accounted for in the mechanical behaviors of nanoscale structures. In the current investigation, the influence of free surface energy on the nonlinear primary resonance of silicon nanoshells under soft harmonic external excitation is studied. In order to obtain more accurate...  相似文献

The amplitude — frequency relations of beams, membranes and plates in free vibration with moderately large amplitude are of interest. A two harmonics solution of motion equation and the reciprocal interaction of two modes of vibration are taken into account. The resulting backbone curves with loops, additional branches and bifurcation points are determined and discussed. The physical meaning of the considered curves is also explained.

In the study of nonlinear vibrations of planar frames and beams with infinitesimal displacements and strains, the influence of the static displacements resulting from gravity effect and other conservative loads is usually disregarded. This paper discusses the effect of the deformed equilibrium configuration on the nonlinear vibrations through the analysis of two planar structures. Both structures present a two-to-one internal resonance and a primary response of the second mode. The equations of motion are reduced to two degrees of freedom and contain all geometrical and inertial nonlinear terms. These equations are derived by modal superposition with additional subsidiary conditions. In the two cases analyzed, the deformed equilibrium configuration virtually coincides with the undeformed configuration. Also, 2% is the maximum difference presented by the first two lower frequencies. The modes are practically coincident for the deformed and undeformed configurations. Nevertheless, the analysis of the frequency response curves clearly shows that the effect of the deformed equilibrium configuration produces a significant translation along the detuning factor axis. Such effect is even more important in the amplitude response curves. The phenomena represented by these curves may be distinct for the same excitation amplitude.  相似文献

The aim of this work is to formulate a model for the study of the dynamics of curved beams undergoing large oscillations. In Part 1, the interest was oriented to the formulation of a consistent analytical model and to obtain the equations of motion in weak form. In Part 2, a case-study is considered and the response for various initial curved configurations, obtained by varying the initial curvature, is analyzed. Both the free and the forced problems are considered: the linear free dynamics are studied to detect how the initial configuration affects the modal properties and to enlighten the typical phenomena of frequency coalescence and avoidance; the forced dynamics are then studied for different internal resonance conditions to enlighten the phenomenon of the dynamic instability under a shear periodic tip follower force and to describe the various classes of post-critical motion. The results of experimental tests conducted on a slightly imperfect straight beam prototype are eventually discussed.  相似文献

The discrete equations developed in Part I are here used to analyze the non-linear dynamics of an inextensional shear indeformable beam with given end constraints. The model takes into account the non-linear effects of warping and of torsional elongation. Non-linear 3D oscillations of a beam with a cross-section having one symmetry axis is examined. Only terms of higher magnitude are retained in the equations, which exhibit quadratic, cubic and combination resonances. A harmonic load acting in the direction of the symmetry axis and in resonance with the corresponding natural frequency, is considered. Steady-state solutions and their stability are studied; in particular the effects of non-linear warping and of torsional elongation on the response are highlighted.  相似文献

The purpose of this study is to understand the main differences between the deterministic and random response characteristics of an inextensible cantilever beam (with a tip mass) in the neighborhood of combination parametric resonance. The excitation is applied in the plane of largest rigidity such that the bending and torsion modes are cross-coupled through the excitation. In the absence of excitation, the two modes are also coupled due to inertia nonlinearities. For sinusoidal parametric excitation, the beam experiences instability in the neighborhood of the combination parametric resonance of the summed type, i.e., when the excitation frequency is in the neighborhood of the sum of the first bending and torsion natural frequencies. The dependence of the response amplitude on the excitation level reveals three distinct regions: nearly linear behavior, jump phenomena, and energy transfer. In the absence of nonlinear coupling, the stochastic stability boundaries are obtained in terms of sample Lyapunov exponent. The response statistics are estimated using Monte Carlo simulation, and measured experimentally. The excitation center frequency is selected to be close to the sum of the bending and torsion mode frequencies. The beam is found to experience a single response, two possible responses, or non-stationary responses, depending on excitation level. Experimentally, it is possible to obtain two different responses for the same excitation level by providing a small perturbation to the beam during the test.  相似文献

Nonlinear torsional waves propagating along an infinite isotropic cylinder are considered. The hyperelasticity of the cylinder is described by the Murnaghan potential. An approximate analytical solution of the problem is obtained. The evolution of the initial waveprofile in cylinders made of composite materials reinforced with microscale particles is simulated numerically. It is shown that the approximation used to describe the variation in the amplitude inward the cylinder is quite accurate. Three-dimensional plots of evolution are presented __________ Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika, Vol. 44, No. 3, pp. 75–85, March 2008.  相似文献

We investigate the nonlinear response of a clamped-clamped buckled beamto a primary-resonance excitation of its first vibration mode. The beamis subjected to an axial force beyond the critical load of the firstbuckling mode and a transverse harmonic excitation. We solve thenonlinear buckling problem to determine the buckled configurations as afunction of the applied axial load. A Galerkin approximation is used todiscretize the nonlinear partial-differential equation governing themotion of the beam about its buckled configuration and obtain a set ofnonlinearly coupled ordinary-differential equations governing the timeevolution of the response. Single- and multi-mode Galerkinapproximations are used. We found out that using a single-modeapproximation leads to quantitative and qualitative errors in the staticand dynamic behaviors. To investigate the global dynamics, we use ashooting method to integrate the discretized equations and obtainperiodic orbits. The stability and bifurcations of the periodic orbitsare investigated using Floquet theory. The obtained theoretical resultsare in good qualitative agreement with the experimental results obtainedby Kreider and Nayfeh (Nonlinear Dynamics 15, 1998, 155–177.  相似文献

The nonlinear response of an initially buckled beam in the neighborhood of 1:1 internal resonance is investigated analytically, numerically, and experimentally. The method of multiple time scales is applied to derive the equations in amplitudes and phase angles. Within a small range of the internal detuning parameter, the first mode; which is externally excited, is found to transfer energy to the second mode. Outside this region, the response is governed by a unimodal response of the first mode. Stability boundaries of the unimodal response are determined in terms of the excitation level, and internal and external detuning parameters. Boundaries separating unimodal from mixed mode responses are obtained in terms of the excitation and internal detuning parameters. Stationary and non-stationary solutions are found to coexist in the case of mixed mode response. For the case of non-stationary response, the modulation of the amplitude depends on the integration increment such that the motion can be periodically or chaotically modulated for a choice of different integration increments. The results obtained by multiple time scales are qualitatively compared with those obtained by numerical simulation of the original equations of motion and by experimental measurements. Both numerical integration and experimental results reveal the occurrence of multifurcation, escaping from one well to the other in an irregular manner. and chaotic motion.  相似文献

A non-linear one-dimensional model of inextensional, shear undeformable, thin-walled beam with an open cross-section is developed. Non-linear in-plane and out-of-plane warping and torsional elongation effects are included in the model. By using the Vlasov kinematical hypotheses, together with the assumption that the cross-section is undeformable in its own plane, the non-linear warping is described in terms of the flexural and torsional curvatures. Due to the internal constraints, the displacement field depends on three components only, two transversal translations of the shear center and the torsional rotation. Three non-linear differential equations of motion up to the third order are derived using the Hamilton principle. Taking into account the order of magnitude of the various terms, the equations are simplified and the importance of each contribution is discussed. The effect of symmetry properties is also outlined. Finally, a discrete form of the equations is given, which is used in Part II to study dynamic coupling phenomena in conditions of internal resonance.  相似文献

This paper presents the analysis of the global bifurcations and chaotic dynamics for the nonlinear nonplanar oscillations of a cantilever beam subjected to a harmonic axial excitation and transverse excitations at the free end. The governing nonlinear equations of nonplanar motion with parametric and external excitations are obtained. The Galerkin procedure is applied to the partial differential governing equation to obtain a two-degree-of-freedom nonlinear system with parametric and forcing excitations. The resonant case considered here is 2:1 internal resonance, principal parametric resonance-1/2 subharmonic resonance for the in-plane mode and fundamental parametric resonance–primary resonance for the out-of-plane mode. The parametrically and externally excited system is transformed to the averaged equations by using the method of multiple scales. From the averaged equation obtained here, the theory of normal form is applied to find the explicit formulas of normal forms associated with a double zero and a pair of pure imaginary eigenvalues. Based on the normal form obtained above, a global perturbation method is utilized to analyze the global bifurcations and chaotic dynamics in the nonlinear nonplanar oscillations of the cantilever beam. The global bifurcation analysis indicates that there exist the heteroclinic bifurcations and the Silnikov type single-pulse homoclinic orbit in the averaged equation for the nonlinear nonplanar oscillations of the cantilever beam. These results show that the chaotic motions can occur in the nonlinear nonplanar oscillations of the cantilever beam. Numerical simulations verify the analytical predictions.  相似文献

Within the framework of the shallow-water model, the nonlinear axisymmetric oscillations of a fluid in a paraboloid of revolution and in an unbounded parabolic channel are investigated. It is established that in the paraboloid of revolution the oscillation period does not depend on the amplitude, that is, the oscillations are isochronous. Experimental investigations of free fluid oscillations in a paraboloid confirm this theoretical result.Translated from Izvestiya Rossiiskoi Academii Nauk, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 5, 2004, pp. 131–142. The nonlinear dynamics of a fluid-conveying cantilevered pipe with loose constraints placed somewhere along its length is investigated. The main objective of this study is to determine the effects of several geometrical and physical parameters of the loose constraints on the characteristics and behavior of pipes conveying fluid. Based on the full nonlinear equation of motion, the dynamical behavior of the pipe system is investigated. Phase portraits and bifurcation diagrams are constructed for a selected set of system parameters. Typical results are firstly compared to numerical ones reported previously and excellent agreement is obtained. Then, the threshold flow velocities for several key bifurcations including pitchfork, period doubling, chaos, and sticking behaviors are predicted, showing that in many cases, the gap size, stiffness, and asymmetry of the loose constraints have remarkable effects on the nonlinear responses of the cantilevered pipe conveying fluid. For a pipe system with small/large constraint gap sizes, small constraint stiffness, or large constraint offset, some of the complex dynamical behaviors including chaos and period-doubling bifurcations would disappear, at least in the flow velocity range of interest.  相似文献

According to the electromagnetic field theory, a set of differential equations is derived for coupling of the transient process for an electrical machine and transverse and torsional vibrations for the rotor by a unified method. A non-dimensional constant coefficient state equation is obtained by transformation. Computation is done. Rules of the change are obtained for transverse and torsional vibration, unilateral magnetic pull, electrical torque, and so on in the starting process. The theoretical results are shown to be in good agreement with the experimental results. The mathematical model verified by the experiment is used to analyse the effect of electromagnetic and mechanical parameters on electromagnetic force and vibration.  相似文献
