The probabilities for non-radiative (n.r.) excitationsP n.r. in the muonic nuclides208Pb,232Th, and238U have been determined from (μ?,γγ)-measurements by comparing the intensities of muonic X-ray transitions in single and coincidence spectra. The value ofP n.r. (3p→1s), measured for the first time, is about 90% for the actinides232Th and238U, but only about 8% for208Pb. The value ofP n.r. (3d→1s) is found to be 10 % for233Th, 13% for238U, and about 4% for208Pb. For208Pb a vanishing strength of the n.r. decay of the 2p-level is found, while for232Th and for238U n.r. strengths of about 20% and 26%, respectively, are observed. By regarding two subcomplexes of the 2p→1s transitions leading to different mean excitation energies the n.r. transition probabilities were found to be different for238U only, 21.6% and 31.1.%, respectively.  相似文献

Time-of-flight gating techniques have been used to study the decay γ-rays from states excited by inelastic scattering of neutrons from232Th and238U. Neutron energies up to 1900 MeV have been used. From accurate determinations of the γ-ray energies, intensities and thresholds, detailed level and decay schemes have been obtained for232Th and238U. New levels in both nuclei are observed at larger excitations than before and the present work is incompatible with some previously accepted spin and collective band assignments derived from Coulomb excitation studies.  相似文献

The fission probabilities and angular distributions of the fission fragments for the (α, α'f) reaction on 232Th and 238U at a bombarding energy of 120 MeV have been measured from about 4 to 14 MeV excitation energy. Evidence for sub-barrier resonances has been found, the negativeparity ones occurring at the same excitation energy where photofission resonances have been observed. The data are analyzed with the two-humped barrier model. For 238U the data are reasonably well fitted with barriers similar to those known from the literature. For 232Th though, the outer barrier parameters are quite different: the height EB = 6.6 MeV and the width (khω)B = 1.2 MeV. Also for 232Th, introducing an additional mass symmetric and axially asymmetric outer barrier, as was previously found necessary for 238U, does not result in a good fit to the data at higher excitation energies.  相似文献

Using the available experimental data, production cross sections of the most stable nuclei have been calculated for the proton-induced fission of 238U and 232Th at 12, 20, 35, 50, 96 MeV in case of 238U and at 8, 9.3, 12, 19.55, 32.2, 44.7, 53 MeV for 232Th. The analysis has been carried out for the fission fragment mass ranges corresponding to N/Z ratios in the ranges 1.33 ± 0.09 and 1.32 ± 0.08 for 238U and 232Th respectively. Results have been compared with the ones generated indirectly by employing GEF nuclear reaction code, version 2017/1.1. From the production cross sections point of view, for the same energy, 232Th is found to be a better target than 238U for producing nuclei A around the symmetric mass peak, while 238U comes out to be a better one than 232Th for producing the fission fragments around the asymmetric peaks of the mass distribution.

Absolute electrofission cross sections for238U and232Th in the energy regionE e =7 ?65 MeV and fission fragment angular distributions forE e =7–30 MeV have been measured. The angular distributions show strong anisotropies for low energies. The relative dipole and quadrupole contributions as a function of excitation energy are discussed in terms of the low lying fission transition states above the fission barriers. The cross sections show significant deviations from the results of some earlier measurements, in particular in the energy region above the giant dipole resonance. From the difficulties of absolute electrofission cross section measurements and the ambiguities in their interpretation it is concluded that by this time the quantitative analysis of electrofission cross sections with respect to the contributions of the giant quadrupole resonances to the fission decay channel should be regarded as rather tentative.  相似文献

Fragment energy correlation measurements have been made for238U,232Th and209Bi with bremsstrahlung of 600 MeV maximum energy. The study was performed with silicon surface barrier detectors. Distributions of kinetic energy as a function of fragment mass are presented. The results are compared with earlier photofission data and, in the case of bismuth, with calculations based on the liquid drop model.  相似文献

The monitoring and evaluation of radioactive content in samples of PM10 aerosols have been investigated. The specific radioactivity concentrations (SRC) of 234U, 235U, 238U and 232Th were determined using inductively coupled plasma-sector field mass spectrometry in 13 samples collected in Mexico City and 8 samples collected in Cuernavaca in the centre of Mexico. The SRC of the radioisotopes analysed in PM10 were larger than those reported in PM2.5. The enrichment factor was greater than 5, indicating anthropogenic influences in both sites. The activity ratios of these isotopes in the samples were determined. The 235U/238U ratio showed variations with respect to the natural value, while the 234U/238U and 232Th/238U ratios did not show any secular equilibrium in all sites, corroborating that the increase of uranium is not influenced by natural sources. The annual dose results obtained have no impact on health.  相似文献

238U and 232Th concentrations as well as 222Rn and 220Rn α-activities per unit volume were measured in various natural honey samples collected from different regions in Morocco using CR-39 and LR-115 type II solid state nuclear track detectors (SSNTDs). These radionuclides were also measured in soils, plant flowers and nectar solutions corresponding to the honey samples studied. In addition, these radionuclides were measured in different imported honey samples. The measured 238U, 232Th, 222Rn and 220Rn concentrations ranged from (1.5±0.1) mBq kg−1 to (10.6±0.6) mBq kg−1, (1.1±0.1) mBq kg−1 to (4.2±0.2) mBq kg−1, (1.5±0.1) Bq kg−1 to (10.6±0.6) Bq kg−1 and (1.1±0.1) Bq kg−1 to (4.2±0.2) Bq kg−1 for the honey samples studied, respectively. Annual 238U, 232Th and 222Rn intakes by Moroccan adults from the consumption of honey were assessed. The influence of the nature of soil and plant on the 238U and 232Th contents of the studied honey samples was investigated. These measurements were completed by an investigation of the 238U and 232Th transfer between soils and plant flowers and that between plant flowers and honey, and also by the investigation of the influence of pollution due to different material dusts on 238U, 232Th and 222Rn in the honey samples studied. Committed equivalent doses due to the annual intake of 238U, 232Th and 222Rn were evaluated in the organs of adult members of the Moroccan rural population from the ingestion of the honey samples. The maximum total committed effective dose due to 238U, 232Th and 222Rn from the ingestion of natural honey by the Moroccan rural population was found to be equal to 0.64 μ Sv y−1.  相似文献

The large magnitude and the sign correlation effect in the parity non-conserving resonant scattering of epithermal neutrons from232Th is discussed in terms of a non-collective 2p 1h local doorway model. The activity concentration of natural (238U, 232Th, and 40K) and artificial (137Cs) radionuclides was determined in 50 samples (obtained from the same station) from various species of mushrooms and soil collected from the Middle Black Sea Region (Turkey). The activities of 238U, 232Th, 40K, and 137Cs were found as 84 ± 16, 45 ± 14, 570 ± 28, and 64 ± 6?Bq?kg–1 (dry weight), respectively, in the mushroom samples and as 51?±?6, 41?±?6, 201?±?11, and 44?±?4?Bq?kg–1, respectively, in the soil samples for the entire area of study. The results of all radionuclide activity measurements, except those of 238U and 232Th in the mushroom samples, are consistent with previous studies. In the soil samples, the mean values of 238U and 232Th are above the world mean, and the activity mean of 40K is below the world mean. Finally, the activity estimation was made with both the soil and mushroom samples for unmeasured points within the study area by using the ordinary kriging method. Using Lexan polycarbonate plastic as the fission fragment track detectors, the fragment angular distributions have been measured in the cases of fission of232Th and238U induced by alpha particles of various energies ranging from 40 to 70MeV obtained from the 88″ variable energy cyclotron at Calcutta. The center-of-mass angular distributions have been calculated and fitted by a series of Legendre polynomials. TheW(10°)/W(90°) ratios (defined as anisotropy) were measured at several energies for both the targets. These data are utilized in calculation of the energy dependence ofK 0 2 , the standard deviation of the distribution in the angular momentum projection on the nuclear symmetry axis at the saddle point. Values of Γ f η , i.e. the ratio of the fission width to neutron emission width have been determined for232Th and238U nuclei. The integral cross-section for alpha induced fission in each target was determined by numerical integration of the respective center-of-mass angular differential cross-sections. The results were compared with similar data available in the literature which served to resolve some of the discrepancies observed in earlier measurements. The results were also compared with theoretical cross-sections.  相似文献

238U, 232Th and 40K concentrations in 72 soil samples from two major fault systems (North and East Anatolian Active Fault Sytems) in Turkey have been studied. However, terrestrial gamma radiation dose originated by natural radionuclides in soil was measured and compared with other measurements in literature for different countries. This extensive survey regarding U, Th and K radionuclide and terrestrial gamma dose measurement was carried out by means of NaI(TI) gamma spectroscopic system and a dose rate meter, respectively. The mean concentration of 238U, 232Th and 40K in soil samples in NAFS is higher than determined in EAFS. The measured and calculated mean gamma dose rates in two fault systems are found to be higher than 57 nGyh−1.  相似文献

Cross sections for nuclear reactions at beam energies near and below the spherical Coulomb barrier V c were measured in the very heavy collision systems238U +238U and238U +197Au. The most probable reaction channel with mass transfer is the one-neutron transfer. Its excitation function is understood in terms of Rutherford trajectories together with the quantal process of neutron tunnelling over large distances. In addition, the exchange of up to 15 nucleons is observed down to 0.90 V c . The excitation functions for the multi-nucleon transfer products have much steeper slopes than that for one-neutron transfer, and are steeper for238U +197Au than for238U +238U, suggesting that nuclear contact is established in the associated collisions. The angular distribution for one selected multi-nucleon transfer product,227Th, shows that its formation occurs in more central collisions within contact times shorter than about 10?21 s. There is no evidence for very longlived di-nuclear systems in the these reactions.  相似文献

In this study, Ip = 1+\ensuremath I^{\pi} = 1^{+} and Ip = 1-\ensuremath I^{\pi} = 1^{-} dipole mode excitations are systematically investigated within the rotational and translational + Galilean invariant quasiparticle random-phase approximation for 232Th , 236U , and 238U actinide nuclei. It is shown that the investigated nuclei reach a B(M1) strength structure, which corresponds to the scissors mode. The calculated mean excitation energies as well as the summed B(M1) value of the scissors mode excitations are consistent with the available experimental data. The results of calculations indicate large differences to the rare-earth nuclei as is the case for the experiment: a doubling of the observed dipole strengths and a shift of the energy centroid to the lower energies by about 800keV. The calculations indicate the presence of a few prominent negative-parity Kp = 1-\ensuremath K^{\pi} = 1^{-} states in the 2.0-4.0MeV energy interval. The occurrence of the negative-parity dipole states with the rather high B(E1) value less than 4MeV shows the necessity of explicit parity measurements for the correct determination of the scissors mode strength in 232Th , 236U , and 238U isotopes.  相似文献

The excitation energy spectrum of fission resonances has been measured with high energy resolution using the 235U(d,pf) reaction in order to study hyperdeformed (HD) rotational bands and HD nuclear shapes. The moments of inertia of the rotational bands and the energy of the ground state in the third minimum were determined. Another signature of these highly deformed states, their enhanced α decay, was also observed. By studying cold or compact fission in the 232Th(n,f) reaction around HD resonances, we obtained data for heavy clustering.  相似文献

The yields of various fission products in the 10 MeV bremsstrahlung-induced fission of 232Th, 238U and 240Pu were determined using a recoil catcher and off-line γ-ray spectrometric techniques. From the yield data, mass yield distributions were obtained using charge distribution corrections. The higher yields of fission products around mass numbers 133–135, 138–140, 143–145 and their complementary products in the neutron and bremsstrahlung-induced fission of 232Th, 238U and 240Pu were interpreted based on nuclear structure effects. From the mass yield distribution, the peak-to-valley (P/VP/V) ratio was also obtained for the above fissioning systems. The present data, along with data from the literature on different bremsstrahlung- and mono-energetic neutron-induced fissions of 232Th and 238U are interpreted to examine the influence of excitation energy on the peak to valley ratio. For the same compound nucleus 240Pu?, the data in the 10–30 MeV bremsstrahlung-induced fission of 240Pu were compared with similar data of thermal to 14 MeV neutron-induced fission of 239Pu and the spontaneous fission of 240Pu to examine the role of excitation energy due to bremsstrahlung radiation and mono-energetic neutrons.  相似文献

The analysis of natural radioactivity from 238U, 232Th and 40K in 357 soil samples collected from the province of Kütahya was carried out using a NaI(Tl) gamma-ray spectroscopy system at the Nuclear Physics Research Laboratory, Dumlup?nar University, Kütahya, Turkey. The specific activities of 238U, 232Th and 40K in the soil samples were evaluated. From the activity concentrations of 238U, 232Th and 40K, the total absorbed outdoor gamma-ray dose rates and the corresponding annual effective dose rates were determined. The corresponding values of the external and internal hazard indices of all the soil samples were also calculated. The external gamma-ray dose rate at 1 m above the ground was directly measured at each collected soil sample location. The results obtained in this study were compared within the limits of values obtained in other cities of Turkey, those in other countries. Radiological maps of Kütahya Province were constructed from the results of this study.  相似文献

Measurements of the photofission cross sections of 232Th and 236U for an energy range of 5.0 to 8.0 MeV are reported. The Compton scattering facility at the Ames Laboratory Research Reactor was used for these measurements. Resonance structure at γ-ray energies of 6.3 and 7.6 MeV is observed in 232Th and at 5.3, 6.0, 6.5, and 7.5 MeV in 236U. The present results are compared with other photofission experiments and particle-induced fission studies. Suggestions for the interpretation of the resonances are given on the basis of Bohr's fission-channel theory and the existence of a double-humped fission barrier.  相似文献
