Homopolymers of tbutyl acrylate (PtBuA) and a monosubstituted acrylamide (PAM) having an amino acid moiety in the side chain, N‐acryloyl‐(L )‐phenylalanine methyl ester 1 , have been synthesized by Reversible Addition‐Fragmentation Chain Transfer (RAFT) polymerization. Diblock copolymers of these homopolymers were also synthesized by chain extending PtBuA with monomer 1 and after modification, using simple acid deprotection chemistries of the acrylate block to afford a poly (acrylic acid) block, an optically active amphiphilic diblock copolymer was isolated. The optically active amphiphilic diblock copolymers, which contain chiral amino acid moieties within the hydrophobic segment, were then self‐assembled to afford spherical micelles which were subsequently crosslinked throughout the shell layer to afford robust chiral nanoparticles. The hydrodynamic diameters (Dh) of the block copolymer micelles and nanoparticles were measured by dynamic light scattering (DLS) and the dimensions of the nanoparticles were determined using tapping‐mode atomic force microscopy (AFM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The polymers poly[(2,2‐dimethyl‐1,3‐dioxolane‐4yl) methyl acrylate] (PDMDMA) and four‐armed PDMDMA with well‐defined structures were prepared by the polymerization of (2,2‐dimethyl‐1,3‐dioxolane‐4yl) methyl acrylate (DMDMA) in the presence of an atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) initiator system. The successive hydrolyses of the polymers obtained produced the corresponding water‐soluble polymers poly(2,3‐dihydroxypropyl acrylate) (PDHPA) and four‐armed PDHPA. The controllable features for the ATRP of DMDMA were studied with kinetic measurements, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and NMR data. With the macroinitiators PDMDMA–Br and four‐armed PDMDMA–Br in combination with CuBr and 2,2′‐bipyridine, the block polymerizations of methyl acrylate (MA) with PDMDMA were carried out to afford the AB diblock copolymer PDMDMA‐b‐MA and the four‐armed block copolymer S{poly[(2,2‐dimethyl‐1,3‐dioxolane‐4yl) methyl acrylate]‐block‐poly(methyl acrylate)}4, respectively. The block copolymers were hydrolyzed in an acidic aqueous solution, and the amphiphilic diblock and four‐armed block copolymers poly(2,3‐dihydroxypropyl acrylate)‐block‐poly(methyl acrylate) were prepared successfully. The structures of these block copolymers were verified with NMR and GPC measurements. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 39: 3062–3072, 2001  相似文献

Glucose responsive block copolymer featuring boronic acid as a glucose responsive moiety and glycine are reported. The first block is polymerized through reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization and the resulting poly(N‐acryloylmorpholine)113 (PAcM) is employed as a macro‐chain transfer agent for chain extension with pentafluorophenyl acrylate (PFPA) yielding a well‐defined PAcM113block‐poly(pentafluorophenyl acrylate)84 (PPFPA). The PPFPA block is then reacted with functional (3‐aminomethyl) phenyl boronic acid and glycine via post‐polymerization modification and the structure of the block copolymer is confirmed by proton nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), 19F NMR, Fourier transform infrared, and gel permeation chromatography. By copolymerizing glycine into the polymer backbone, the relative pKa of the block copolymer is significantly lowered. The block copolymer can self‐assemble into core–shell micelles in aqueous solution and disassemble in response to glucose at the physiological pH. Furthermore, the encapsulation and release of Nile red (NR) as a hydrophobic model drug is studied under the physiological pH. The influence of the glucose concentration on the NR release from the polymeric micelles is demonstrated. These results suggested that the glucose‐responsive poly[(AcM)113b‐(3‐(aminomethyl)phenylboronic acid hydrochloride(‐co‐Gly)84] block copolymer has potential applications as a glucose‐responsive polymer for insulin delivery. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. AB block copolymers composed of hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and hydrophobic poly(amino acid) with a carboxyl group at the end of PEG were synthesized with α‐carboxylic sodium‐ω‐amino‐PEG as a macroinitiator for the ring‐opening polymerization of N‐carboxy anhydride. Characterizations by 1H NMR, IR, and gel permeation chromatography were carried out to confirm that the diblock copolymers were formed. In aqueous media this copolymer formed self‐associated polymer micelles that have a carboxyl group on the surface. The carboxyl groups located at the outer shell of the polymeric micelle were expected to combine with ligands to target specific cell populations. The diameter of the polymer micelles was in the range of 30–80 nm. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 3527–3536, 2004  相似文献

This article describes a divergent strategy to prepare dendrimer‐like macromolecules from vinyl monomers through a combination of atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and click reaction. Firstly, star‐shaped polystyrene (PS) with three arms was prepared through ATRP of styrene starting from a three‐arm initiator. Next, the terminal bromides of the star‐shaped PS were substituted with azido groups. Afterwards, the azido‐terminated star‐shaped PS was reacted with propargyl 2,2‐bis((2′‐bromo‐2′‐methylpropanoyloxy)methyl)propionate (PBMP) via click reaction. Star‐shaped PS with six terminal bromide groups was afforded and served as the initiator for the polymerization of styrene to afford the second‐generation dendrimer‐like PS. Iterative process of the aforementioned sequence of reactions could allow the preparation of the third‐generation dendrimer‐like PS. When the second‐generation dendrimer‐like PS with 12 bromide groups used as an initiator for the polymerization of tert‐butyl acrylate, the third‐generation dendrimer‐like block copolymer with a PS core and a poly (tert‐butyl acrylate) (PtBA) corona was afforded. Subsequently PtBA segments were selectively hydrolyzed with hydrochloric acid, resulting an amphiphilic branched copolymer with inner dendritic PS and outer linear poly(acrylic acid) (PAA). Following the same polymerization procedures, the dendrimer‐like PS and PS‐block‐PtBA copolymers of second generation originating from six‐arm initiator were also synthesized. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) emulsion polymerization is becoming an important technique to synthesize the latex of block copolymers. A previous study showed that in the synthesis of polystyrene‐b‐poly(butyl acrylate)‐b‐polystyrene triblock copolymer via RAFT emulsion polymerization using amphiphilic oligo(acrylic acid‐styrene) macroRAFT as surfactant and mediator, the molecular weight distribution could be much broadened to PDI higher than 2. In this study, an in‐depth investigation was performed to decrease PDI. It was found that long‐chain branches could be formed in the synthesis of triblock block copolymer, leading to the appearance of a higher molecular weight shoulder in the GPC curve of the final product. The lower neutralization degree of acrylic acid (AA) units on the macroRAFT and shorter AA chains would help to suppress the formation the long‐chain branches, leading to PDI around 1.5. It is evidenced that the successful suppression is due to the promotion of radical entry as a result of decreased interfacial transport impedance. It is also evidenced that the presence of styrene during the polymerization of butyl acrylate could promote the formation of long chain branches. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. A novel polymeric hollow nanostructure was generated using micellar template method through a three‐step procedure. First, the block copolymers were synthesized via ring‐opening metathesis polymerization by sequentially adding monomers 7‐oxanorborn‐5‐ene‐exoexo‐2,3‐dicarboxylic acid dimethyl ester and the mixture of norbornene and 2,3‐bis(2‐bromoisobutyryloxymethyl)‐5‐norbornene in chloroform, and also atom transfer radical polymerization of 4‐(3‐butenyl)styrene was carried out by using the as‐obtained block copolymer poly(7‐oxanorborn‐5‐ene‐exo,exo‐2,3‐dicarboxylic acid dimethylester)‐block‐poly(norbornene‐co‐2,3‐bis(2‐bromoisobutyryloxymethyl)‐5‐norbornene as macroinitiator to afford a graft copolymer bearing poly(4‐(3‐butenyl)styrene) branch poly(7‐oxanorborn‐5‐ene‐exo,exo‐2,3‐dicarboxylic acid dimethylester)‐block‐poly(norbornene‐co‐2,3‐bis(2‐bromoisobutyryloxymethyl)‐5‐norbornene)‐graft‐poly(4‐(3‐butenyl)styrene). Second, the shell‐crosslinked micelles were prepared by ruthenium‐mediated ring‐closing metathesis of poly(4‐(3‐butenyl)styrene) branches in intramicelle formed from the copolymers self‐assembly spontaneously in toluene. Finally, the hollowed spherical nanoparticles were presented by removing the micellar copolymer backbone through the cleavage of the ester bonds away from the crosslinked network of branches. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Amphiphilic tris(2,2′‐bipyridine)ruthenium‐cored star‐shaped polymers consisting of one polystyrene block and two poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) blocks were prepared by the “arm‐first” method in which RAFT polymerization and nonconvalent ligand–metal complexation were employed. The prepared amphiphilic star‐shaped metallopolymers are able to form micelles in water. The size and distribution of the micelles were studied by dynamic light scattering and transmission electron microscopy techniques. Preliminary studies indicate that the polymer concentration and the hydrophilic poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) block length can affect the morphologies of the formed metal‐interfaced core–shell micelles in water. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A method was developed to enable the formation of nanoparticles by reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer polymerization. The thermoresponsive behavior of polymeric micelles was modified by means of micellar inner cores and an outer shell. Polymeric micelles comprising AB block copolymers of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PIPAAm) and poly(2‐hydroxyethylacrylate) (PHEA) or polystyrene (PSt) were prepared. PIPAAm‐b‐PHEA and PIPAAm‐b‐PSt block copolymers formed a core–shell micellar structure after the dialysis of the block copolymer solutions in organic solvents against water at 20 °C. Upon heating above the lower critical solution temperature (LCST), PIPAAm‐b‐PHEA micelles exhibited an abrupt increase in polarity and an abrupt decrease in rigidity sensed by pyrene. In contrast, PIPAAm‐b‐PSt micelles maintained constant values with lower polarity and higher rigidity than those of PIPAAm‐b‐PHEA micelles over the temperature range of 20–40 °C. Structural deformations produced by the change in the outer polymer shell with temperature cycles through the LCST were proposed for the PHEA core, which possessed a lower glass‐transition temperature (ca. 20 °C) than the LCST of the PIPAAm outer shell (ca. 32.5 °C), whereas the PSt core with a much higher glass‐transition temperature (ca. 100 °C) retained its structure. The nature of the hydrophobic segments composing the micelle inner core offered an important control point for thermoresponsive drug release and the drug activity of the thermoresponsive polymeric micelles. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization was employed to synthesize a set of copolymers of styrene (PS) and 2,3,4,5,6‐pentafluorostyrene (PPFS), as well as block copolymers with tert‐butyl acrylate (PtBA)‐b‐PS‐co‐PPFS, with control over molecular weight and polydispersity. It was found that the copolymerization of styrene and PFS allowed for the preparation of gradient copolymers with opposite levels of monomer consumption, depending on the feed ratio. Conversion to amphiphilic block copolymers, PAA‐b‐(PS‐co‐PPFS), by removing the protecting groups was followed by fitting with monomethoxy poly(ethylene glycol) chains. Solution‐state assembly and intramicellar crosslinking afforded shell crosslinked knedel‐like (SCK) block copolymer nanoparticles. These fluorinated nanoparticles (ca. 20 nm diameters) were studied as potential magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agents based on the 19F‐nuclei; however, it was found that packaging of the hydrophobic fluorinated polymers into the core domain restricted the mobility of the chains and prohibited 19F NMR spectroscopy when the particles were dispersed in water without an organic cosolvent. Packing of perflouro‐15‐crown‐5‐ether (PFCE) into the polymer micelle was demonstrated with good uptake efficiency; however, it was necessary to swell the core with a good solvent (DMSO) to increase the mobility and observe the 19F NMR signal of the PFCE. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The preparation of some unique block copolymers and block copolymer particles via radical heterophase polymerization is described. Special emphasis is placed on double hydrophilic block copolymers such as poly(styrene sulfonic acid)-b-poly(methacrylic acid) diblock copolymer and double hydrophilic block copolymer particles consisting of both hydrophilic shells and cross-linked hydrophilic cores. Examples are given for the application of such particles as adsorbents, nano-reactors for chemical synthesis, and as colloidal stabilizers in both heterophase polymerization and biomineralization reactions.  相似文献

Hydrolysis of 4‐acetoxystyrene polymers prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization was carried out under various reaction conditions. It was found that hydrazinolysis of 4‐acetoxystyrene homopolymers, random and block copolymers with styrene in 1,4‐dioxane, afforded the corresponding narrow dispersed materials with phenolic groups which were substantially free from crosslinkages. Gel permeation chromatographic (GPC) analysis of these polymers revealed different extents of molecular weight distribution (MWD) broadening for the hydrolysis products for the different structures. On the other hand, by NaOH catalyzed deprotection, the 4‐acetoxystyrene polymers including triblock copolymer poly(4‐acetoxystyrene‐b‐isobutylene‐b‐4‐acetoxystyrene) suffered from some degrees of coupling or even gelation, except for poly(styrene‐b‐4‐acetoxystyrene‐b‐styrene) which also by this method could be conveniently converted to its phenolic product. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. pH‐sensitive polymers can be defined as polyelectrolytes that include in their structure weak acidic or basic groups that either accept or release protons in response to a change in the environmental pH. This work summarizes the design, synthesis, and potential applications of pH‐responsive fluorescent copolymers in the biomedical field. This was achieved using atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of tert‐butyl acrylate using a CuBr/N,N,N′,N″N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine catalyst system in conjunction with an alkyl bromide as the initiator. Well‐defined macroinitiators based on poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) with narrow molecular weight distributions were obtained by the addition of an appropriate solvent system in order to create a homogeneous catalytic system. The addition of n‐butyl acrylate as a second building block in order to create well‐defined poly(tert‐butyl acrylate)‐b‐poly(n‐butyl acrylate) block copolymers (PtBA‐b‐PnBA) followed by chemical modification of the block copolymers and functionalization with an appropriate fluorescent compound are the basis for the preparation of well‐defined fluorescent pH‐sensitive micelles. Thus, prepared water soluble nanosized pH‐sensitive micelles consisting of hydrophobic poly(n‐butyl acrylate) core and hydrophilic polyacrylic acid shell decorated with an appropriate fluorescent compound determined their potential applications of these systems in the field of biomedicine as biosensors, controlled drug delivery systems, and so on. In this respect, the cell viability and internalization of the polymer micelles were studied.  相似文献

Main‐chain imidazolium‐functionalized amphiphilic block copolymers (PIL‐b‐PS) consisting of polyionic liquid (PIL) and polystyrene (PS) blocks have been first synthesized by condensation polymerization combined with nitroxide‐mediated free radical polymerization (NMP). The di‐functional imidazolium‐based ionic liquid (IL) having both hydroxyl and ester end groups was synthesized through Michael addition between imidazole and methylacrylate (MA) and further quaternization by 2‐chloroethanol. The HTEMPO (4‐hydroxy‐2,2,6,6‐tetramethyl‐1‐piperidinyloxy) terminated polyionic liquid (HTEMPO‐PIL) as the hydrophilic block was prepared by condensation polymerization of di‐functional imidazolium IL and HTEMPO at a certain ratio. The hydrophobic PS block was synthesized by controlled radical polymerization of styrene using HTEMPO‐PIL through NMP, resulting PIL‐b‐PS block copolymers. The structure of block copolymers obtained has been characterized and verified by FTIR, 1H NMR, and size exclusion chromatography analyses. In addition, the morphology and size of the micelles formed by PIL‐b‐PS block copolymers in water were investigated by transmission electron microscopy and dynamic light scattering. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this study, a novel type of amphiphilic block copolymers poly(lactic acid)‐block‐poly(ascorbyl acrylate) (PLA‐block‐PAAA) with biodegradable poly(lactic acid) as hydrophobic block and poly(ascorbyl acrylate) (PAAA) as hydrophilic block was successfully developed by a combination of ring‐opening polymerization and atom transfer radical polymerization, followed by hydrogenation under normal pressure. The chemical structures of the desired copolymers were characterized by 1H NMR and gel permeation chromatography. The thermal physical properties and crystallinity were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, and wide angle X‐ray diffraction, respectively. Their self‐assembly behavior was monitored by fluorescence‐probe technique and turbidity change using UV–vis spectrometer, and the morphology and size of the nanocarriers via self‐assembly were detected by cryo‐transmission electron microscopy and dynamic light scattering. These polymeric micelles with PAAA shell extending into the aqueous solution have potential abilities to act as promising nanovehicles for targeting drug delivery. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This contribution describes the polymerization of 2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidin‐4‐yl methacrylate by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Different catalytic systems are compared. The CuCl/4,4′‐dinonyl‐2,2′‐dipyridyl catalytic system allows a good control over the polymerization and provides polymers with a polydispersity index below 1.2. The successful polymerization of styrene from PTMPM‐Cl macroinitiators by ATRP is then demonstrated. Successful quantitative oxidation of PTMPM‐b‐PS block copolymers leads to poly(2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidinyloxy‐4‐yl‐methacrylate)‐b‐poly(styrene) (PTMA‐b‐PS). The cyclic voltammogram of PTMA‐b‐PS indicates a reversible redox reaction at 3.6 V (vs. Li+/Li). Such block copolymers open new opportunities for the formation of functional organic cathode materials. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2013  相似文献

Amphiphilic block copolymers composed of a hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) block and a hydrophobic poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (PGMA) block were synthesized through cationic ring‐opening polymerization with PEG as the precursor. The model reactions indicated that the reactivity of the epoxy groups was higher than that of the double bonds in the bifunctional monomer glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) under the cationic polymerization conditions. Through the control of the reaction time in the synthesis of block copolymer PEG‐b‐PGMA, a linear GMA block was obtained through the ring‐opening polymerization of epoxy groups, whereas the double bond in GMA remained unreacted. The results showed that the molecular weight of the PEG precursor had little influence on the grafting of GMA, and the PGMA blocks almost kept the same length, despite the difference of the PEG blocks. In addition, the PGMA blocks only consisted of several GMA units. The obtained amphiphilic PEG‐b‐PGMA block copolymers could form polymeric core–shell micelles by direct molecular self‐assembly in water. The crosslinking of the PGMA core of the PEG‐b‐PGMA micelles, induced by ultraviolet radiation and heat instead of crosslinking agents, greatly increased the stability of the micelles. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Carbohydrates are the fundamental building blocks of many natural polymers, their wide bioavailability, high chemical functionality, and stereochemical diversity make them attractive starting materials for the development of new synthetic polymers. In this work, one such carbohydrate, d ‐glucopyranoside, was utilized to produce a hydrophobic five‐membered cyclic carbonate monomer to afford sugar‐based amphiphilic copolymers and block copolymers via organocatalyzed ring‐opening polymerizations with 4‐methylbenzyl alcohol and methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) as initiator and macroinitiator, respectively. To modulate the amphiphilicities of these polymers acidic benzylidene cleavage reactions were performed to deprotect the sugar repeat units and present hydrophilic hydroxyl side chain groups. Assembly of the polymers under aqueous conditions revealed interesting morphological differences, based on the polymer molar mass and repeat unit composition. The initial polymers, prior to the removal of the benzylidenes, underwent a morphological change from micelles to vesicles as the sugar block length was increased, causing a decrease in the hydrophilic–hydrophobic ratio. Deprotection of the sugar block increased the hydrophilicity and gave micellar morphologies. This tunable polymeric platform holds promise for the production of advanced materials for implementation in a diverse range of applications. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Post‐polymerization modification is an important synthetic method to produce macromolecules with various chemical and physical properties. With this technique, functional groups of polymer molecules within the same structural scaffold can be varied, and thus, accurate research on structure‐property relationships is possible. To add practicality, the direct post‐polymerization of commodity polymers has been pursued, but only limited success has been realized. In this report, a study on various transesterification methods for the synthesis of functional polyacrylates beginning with a poly(methyl acrylate) (PMA), one common acrylate polymer, is presented. The Zn‐based catalytic system, a combination of Zn4(OCOCF3)6O and 4‐dimethylaminopyridine with instant methanol removal, exhibited the highest reactivity among many catalysts and conditions. Assorted alcohols were reacted with PMA to produce the corresponding polyacrylates. This method was successfully extended to post‐polymerization modification of a PMA‐containing block copolymer, PS‐b‐PMA and synthesis of acrylate copolymers with functional group density control. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined sulfonated polystyrene and block copolymers with n‐butyl acrylate (nBA) were synthesized by CuBr catalyzed living radical polymerization. Neopentyl p‐styrene sulfonate (NSS) was polymerized with ethyl‐2‐bromopropionate initiator and CuBr catalyst with N,N,N′,N′‐pentamethylethyleneamine to give poly(NSS) (PNSS) with a narrow molecular weight distribution (MWD < 1.12). PNSS was then acidified by thermolysis resulting in a polystyrene backbone with 100% sulfonic acid groups. Random copolymers of NSS and styrene with various composition ratios were also synthesized by copolymerization of NSS and styrene with different feed ratios (MWD < 1.11). Well defined block copolymers with nBA were synthesized by sequential polymerization of NSS from a poly(n‐butyl acrylate) (PnBA) precursor using CuBr catalyzed living radical polymerization (MWD < 1.29). © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
