The in-tube cooling flow and heat transfer characteristics of R134a at supercritical pressures are measured experimentally for various pressures and mass fluxes in a horizontal tube. The tube is made of stainless steel with an inner diameter of 4.01 mm. Experiments are conducted for mass fluxes from 70 kg/m2 s to 405 kg/m2 s and pressures from 4.5 MPa to 5.5 MPa. The inlet refrigerant temperature is from 80 °C to 140 °C. The results show that the refrigerant temperature, the mass flux and the pressure all significantly affect the flow and heat transfer characteristics of R134a at supercritical pressures. The experimentally measured frictional pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient are compared with predicted results from several existing correlations. The comparisons show that the predicted frictional pressure drop using Petrov and Popov’s correlation accounting for the density and viscosity variations agree well with the measured data. Gnielinski’s correlation for the heat transfer coefficient agrees best with the measured data with deviations not exceeding 25%, while correlations based on supercritical CO2 heat transfer data overcorrect for the influence of the thermophysical property variations resulting in larger deviations. A new empirical correlation is developed based on the measured results by modifying Gnielinski’s equation with thermophysical property terms including both the property variations from the inlet to the outlet of the entire test section and from the bulk to the wall. Most of the experimental data is predicted by the new correlation within a range of 15%.  相似文献

Processes involving heat transfer from a humid air stream to a cold plate, with simultaneous deposition of frost, are of great importance in a variety of refrigeration equipment. In this paper, frost growth on a cold, vertical plate in free convection has been experimentally investigated. The cold plate (0.095 m high, 0.282 m wide) was placed in vertical channels open at the top and bottom in order to permit the natural circulation of ambient air. The channels, rectangular in shape, were 2.395 m high and 0.36 m wide, with the depth set equal either to 20 mm, or 10 mm, or 6 mm in order to infer the influence of channel flow area on the natural convection and frost formation. The cold plate temperature and the air relative humidity were varied in the −40 to −4 °C and 31–85% range, respectively, with the air temperature held fixed at 27 °C (±1 °C). Several quantities (thickness, temperature and mass of frost, heat flux at the cold plate), were measured during the time-evolution of the process (7.5 h from the frost growth inception), and are presented as functions of the input parameters (relative humidity and cold plate temperature); in particular, the role exerted by the plate confinement on the frost growth is discussed. Data are recast in order to identify compact parameters able to correlate frost mass, thickness and density data.  相似文献

Subcooled flow boiling heat transfer for refrigerant R-134a in vertical cylindrical tubes with 0.83, 1.22 and 1.70 mm internal diameter was experimentally investigated. The effects of the heat flux, q″ = 1–26 kW/m2, mass flux, G = 300–700 kg/m2 s, inlet subcooling, ΔTsub,i = 5–15 °C, system pressure, P = 7.70–10.17 bar, and channel diameter, D, on the subcooled boiling heat transfer were explored in detail. The results are presented in the form of boiling curves and heat transfer coefficients. The boiling curves evidenced the existence of hysteresis when increasing the heat flux until the onset of nucleate boiling, ONB. The wall superheat at ONB was found to be essentially higher than that predicted with correlations for larger tubes. An increase of the mass flux leads, for early subcooled boiling, to an increase in the heat transfer coefficient. However, for fully developed subcooled boiling, increases of the mass flux only result in a slight improvement of the heat transfer. Higher inlet subcooling, higher system pressure and smaller channel diameter lead to better boiling heat transfer. Experimental heat transfer coefficients are compared to predictions from classical correlations available in the literature. None of them predicts the experimental data for all tested conditions.  相似文献

This paper presents the results of an experimental study carried out with R-134a during flow boiling in a horizontal tube of 2.6 mm ID. The experimental tests included (i) heat fluxes in the range from 10 to 100 kW/m2, (ii) the refrigerant mass velocities set to the discrete values in the range of 240-930 kg/(m2 s) and (iii) saturation temperature of 12 and 22 °C. The study analyzed the heat transfer, through the local heat transfer coefficient along of flow, and pressure drop, under the variation of these different parameters. It was possible to observe the significant influence of heat flux in the heat transfer coefficient and mass velocity in the pressure drop, besides the effects of saturation temperature. In the low quality region, it was possible to observe a significant influence of heat flux on the heat transfer coefficient. In the high vapor quality region, for high mass velocities, this influence tended to vanish, and the coefficient decreased. The influence of mass velocity in the heat transfer coefficient was detected in most tests for a threshold value of vapor quality, which was higher as the heat flux increased. For higher heat flux the heat transfer coefficient was nearly independent of mass velocity. The frictional pressure drop increased with the increase in vapor quality and mass velocity. Predictive models for heat transfer coefficient in mini channels were evaluated and the calculated coefficient agreed well with measured data within a range 35% for saturation temperature of 22 °C. These results extend the ranges of heat fluxes and mass velocities beyond values available in literature, and add a substantial contribution to the comprehension of boiling heat transfer phenomena inside mini channels.  相似文献

The flow boiling heat transfer characteristics of R134a in the multiport minichannel heat exchangers are presented. The heat exchanger was designed as the counter flow tube-in-tube heat exchanger with refrigerant flowing in the inner tube and hot water in the gap between the outer and inner tubes. Two inner tubes were made from extruded multiport aluminium with the internal hydraulic diameter of 1.1 mm for 14 numbers of channels and 1.2 mm for eight numbers of channels. The outer surface areas of two inner test sections are 5979 mm2 and 6171 m2, while the inner surface areas are 13,545 mm2 and 8856 mm2 for 14 and eight numbers of channels, respectively. The outer tube of heat exchanger was made from circular acrylic tube with an internal hydraulic diameter of 25.4 mm. The experiments were performed at the heat fluxes between 15 and 65 kW/m2, mass flux of refrigerant between 300 and 800 kg/m2 s and saturation pressure ranging from 4 to 6 bar. For instance the boiling curve, average heat transfer coefficients are discussed. The comparison results of two test sections with different the number of channels are investigated. The results are also compared with nine existing correlations. The new correlation for predicting the heat transfer coefficient was also proposed.  相似文献

Since the heat transfer performance of syngas cooler affects the efficiency of the power generating system with integrated coal gasification combined cycle (IGCC) directly, it is important to obtain the heat transfer characteristics of high-pressure syngas in the cooler. Heat transfer in convection cooling section of pressurized coal gasifier with the membrane helical coils and membrane serpentine tubes under high pressure is experimentally investigated. High pressure single gas (He or N2) and their mixture (He + N2) gas serve as the test media in the test pressure range from 0.5 MPa to 3.0 MPa. The results show that the convection heat transfer coefficient of high pressure gas is influenced by the working pressure, gas composition and symmetry of flow around the coil, of which the working pressure is the most significant factor. The average convection heat transfer coefficients for various gases in heat exchangers are systematically analyzed, and the correlations between Nu and Re for two kinds of membrane heat exchangers are obtained. The heat transfer coefficient of heat exchanger with membrane helical coils is greater than that of the membrane serpentine-tube heat exchanger under the same conditions. The heat transfer coefficient increment of the membrane helical-coil heat exchanger is greater than that of the membrane serpentine-tube heat exchanger with the increase of gas pressure and velocity.  相似文献

The condensation heat transfer coefficients of R-22, R-134a and R-410A in a single circular microtube were investigated experimentally. The experiments are conducted without oil in the refrigerant loop. The test section is a smooth, horizontal copper tube of 1.77 mm inner diameter. The experiments were conducted at mass flux of 450-1050 kg/m2 s, saturation temperature of 40 °C. The test results showed that in case of single-phase flow, the single-phase Nusselt Number measured by experimental data was higher than that calculated by Gnielinski correlation. In case of two-phase flow, the condensation heat transfer coefficient of R-410A was higher than that of R-22 and R-134a at the given mass flux. The condensation heat transfer coefficient of R-22 showed almost a similar value to that of R-134a. Most of the existing correlations which were proposed in the large diameter tube failed to predict condensing heat transfer. And also, recently proposed correlation in the single circular microtube is considered not adequate for small diameter tube. Therefore, it is necessary to develop accurate and reliable correlation to predict heat transfer characteristics in the single circular microtube.  相似文献

This paper describes heat and mass transfer characteristics of organic sorbent coated on heat transfer surface of a fin-tube heat exchanger. The experiments in which the moist air was passed into the heat exchanger coated with sorption material were conducted under various conditions of air flow rate (0.5–1.0 m/s) and the temperature of brine (14–20°C) that was the heat transfer fluid to cool the air flow in the dehumidifying process. It is found that the sorption rate of vapor is affected by the air flow rate and the brine temperature. Meanwhile, the attempt of clarifying the sorption mechanism is also conducted. Finally the average mass transfer coefficient of the organic sorbent coated on heat transfer surface of a fin-tube heat exchanger is non-dimensionalzed as a function of Reynolds number and non-dimensional temperature, and it is found that the effect of non-dimensional temperature on them is larger than Reynolds number .  相似文献

Two-phase air–water flow and heat transfer in a 25 mm internal diameter horizontal pipe were investigated experimentally. The water superficial velocity varied from 24.2 m/s to 41.5 m/s and the air superficial velocity varied from 0.02 m/s to 0.09 m/s. The aim of the study was to determine the heat transfer coefficient and its connection to flow pattern and liquid film thickness. The flow patterns were visualized using a high speed video camera, and the film thickness was measured by the conductive tomography technique. The heat transfer coefficient was calculated from the temperature measurements using the infrared thermography method. It was found that the heat transfer coefficient at the bottom of the pipe is up to three times higher than that at the top, and becomes more uniform around the pipe for higher air flow-rates. Correlations on local and average Nusselt number were obtained and compared to results reported in the literature. The behavior of local heat transfer coefficient was analyzed and the role of film thickness and flow pattern was clarified.  相似文献

Refrigerant R-410a flow distribution is experimentally studied in a test section simulating a parallel flow heat exchanger having vertical headers with two pass configuration. Tubes are heated to yield a test section outlet superheat of 5 °C with inlet quality of 0.3. Mass flux is varied from 50 kg/m2 s to 70 kg/m2 s. Effects of inlet and outlet locations are investigated in a search for an optimum configuration. Results show that, significant liquid flows through bottom channels, and less liquid is supplied to top channels. As for the inlet location, better flow distribution (pressure drop as well) is obtained for top inlet as compared with middle inlet. As for the outlet location, top or bottom outlet is better than middle outlet. Correlations are developed for the fraction of liquid or gas taken off by downstream channel as a function of header gas Reynolds number at immediate upstream. The correlations may be used to predict the liquid or gas distribution in a parallel flow heat exchanger having vertical headers. A novel thermal performance evaluation method, which accounts for tube-side flow mal-distribution is proposed.  相似文献

Flow boiling heat transfer with the refrigerants R-134a and R-245fa in copper microchannel cold plate evaporators is investigated. Arrays of microchannels of hydraulic diameter 1.09 and 0.54 mm are considered. The aspect ratio of the rectangular cross section of the channels in both test sections is 2.5. The heat transfer coefficient is measured as a function of local thermodynamic vapor quality in the range −0.2 to 0.9, at saturation temperatures ranging from 8 to 30 °C, mass flux from 20 to 350 kg m−2 s−1, and heat flux from 0 to 22 W cm−2. The heat transfer coefficient is found to vary significantly with heat flux and vapor quality, but only slightly with saturation pressure and mass flux for the range of values investigated. It was found that nucleate boiling dominates the heat transfer. In addition to discussing measurement results, several flow boiling heat transfer correlations are also assessed for applicability to the present experiments.  相似文献

Flow condensation heat transfer coefficients (HTCs) and pressure drop of R22, propylene, propane, DME and isobutane are measured on a horizontal plain tube. The main test section in the experimental flow loop is made of a plain copper tube of 8.8 mm inner diameter and 530 mm length. The refrigerant is cooled by passing cold water through the annulus surrounding the test section. Tests are performed at a fixed refrigerant saturation temperature of 40 ± 0.2 °C with mass fluxes of 100, 200, and 300 kg/m2 s and heat flux of 7.3–7.7 kW/m2. The heat transfer and pressure drop data are obtained in the vapor quality range of 10–90%. Test results show that for a given mass flux the flow condensation HTCs of propylene, propane, DME and isobutane are higher than those of R22 by up to 46.8%, 53.3%, 93.5% and 61.6%, respectively. Also well-known correlations developed based upon conventional fluorocarbon refrigerants predict the present data within a mean deviation of 33%. Finally, the pressure drop increases as the mass flux and quality increase and isobutane shows the highest pressure drop due to its lowest vapor pressure among the fluids tested.  相似文献

An experimental study of evaporation heat transfer coefficients for single circular small tubes was conducted for the flow of C3H8, NH3, and CO2 under various flow conditions. The test matrix encompasses the entire quality range from 0.0 to 1.0, mass fluxes from 50 to 600 kg m−2 s−1, heat fluxes from 5 to 70 kW m−2, and saturation temperatures from 0 to 10 °C. The test section was made of circular stainless steel tubes with inner diameters of 1.5 mm and 3.0 mm, and a length of 2000 mm in a horizontal orientation. The test section was uniformly heated by applying electric power directly to the tubes. The effects of mass flux, heat flux, saturation temperature, and inner tube diameter on the heat transfer coefficient are reported. Among the working refrigerants considered in this study, CO2 has the highest heat transfer coefficient. Laminar flow was observed in the evaporative small tubes, and was considered in the modification of boiling heat transfer coefficients and pressure drop correlations.  相似文献

Several investigators have found that there is a significant effect of surface orientation on pool boiling performance and mechanisms, when a pure liquid is boiled over tubular heating surfaces. However, there is no similar study reported in literature for pool boiling of nanoparticle suspensions. This paper investigates the effect nanoparticles, suspended in pure liquids, can have on nucleate pool boiling heat transfer at various surface orientations. Systematic experiments were conducted on a smooth tube (average surface roughness 48 nm) of diameter 33 mm and length 170 mm at various inclinations (0°, 45° and 90°). Electro-statically stabilized water-based nanoparticle suspensions containing alumina nanoparticles (primary average sizes 47 nm and 150 nm) of concentrations 0.25%, 1% and 2% percent by weight were used. It has been found that there is a significant effect of surface orientation on the heat transfer performance. Horizontal orientation gave maximum heat transfer and the heating surface, when inclined at 45°, gave minimum heat transfer. Further, it was observed that surface–particle interaction and modified bubble motion can explain the behavior.  相似文献

The present work deals with computational modeling of the fluid flow and heat transfer taking place in the process of impact of a cold liquid drop (Td = 20-25 °C) onto a dry heated substrate characterized by different thermophysical properties. The computational model, based on the volume-of-fluid method for the free-surface capturing, is validated by simulating the configurations accounting for the conjugate heat transfer. The simulations were performed in a range of impact Reynolds numbers (Re = 2000-4500), Weber numbers (We = 27-110) and substrate temperatures (Ts = 100-120 °C). The considered temperature range of the drop-surface, i.e. liquid-solid system does not account for the phase change, that is boiling and evaporation. The model performances are assessed by contrasting the results to the reference database originating from the experimental and complementary numerical investigations by Pasandideh-Fard et al. [Pasandideh-Fard, M., Aziz, S., Chandra, S., Mostaghimi, J., 2001. Cooling effectiveness of a water drop impinging on a hot surface. International Journal of Heat and Fluid Flow, 22, 201-210] and Healy et al. [Healy, W., Hartley, J., Abdel-Khalik, S., 2001. On the validity of the adiabatic spreading assumption in droplet impact cooling. International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 44, 3869-3881]. In addition, the thermal field obtained is analyzed along with the corresponding asymptotic analytical solution proposed by Roisman [Roisman, I.V., 2010. Fast forced liquid film spreading on a substrate: flow, heat transfer and phase transition. Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 656, 189-204]. Contrary to some previous numerical studies, the present computational model accounts for the air flow surrounding the liquid drop. This model feature enables a small air bubble to be resolved in the region of the impact point. The reported results agree reasonably well with experimental and theoretical findings with respect to the drop spreading pattern and associated heat flux and temperature distribution.  相似文献

In the present study, the heat transfer characteristics in dry surface conditions of a new type of heat exchanger, namely a helically coiled finned tube heat exchanger, is experimentally investigated. The test section, which is a helically coiled fined tube heat exchanger, consists of a shell and a helical coil unit. The helical coil unit consists of four concentric helically coiled tubes of different diameters. Each tube is constructed by bending straight copper tube into a helical coil. Aluminium crimped spiral fins with thickness of 0.5 mm and outer diameter of 28.25 mm are placed around the tube. The edge of fin at the inner diameter is corrugated. Ambient air is used as a working fluid in the shell side while hot water is used for the tube-side. The test runs are done at air mass flow rates ranging between 0.04 and 0.13 kg/s. The water mass flow rates are between 0.2 and 0.4 kg/s. The water temperatures are between 40 and 50°C. The effects of the inlet conditions of both working fluids flowing through the heat exchanger on the heat transfer coefficients are discussed. The air-side heat transfer coefficient presented in term of the Colburn J factor is proportional to inlet-water temperature and water mass flow rate. The heat exchanger effectiveness tends to increase with increasing water mass flow rate and also slightly increases with increasing inlet water temperature.  相似文献

Differently from most previous studies, the heat transfer and friction characteristics of the pure refrigerant HFC-134a during evaporation inside a vertical corrugated tube are experimentally investigated. The double tube test sections are 0.5 m long with refrigerant flowing in the inner tube and heating water flowing in the annulus. The inner tubes are one smooth tube and two corrugated tubes, which are constructed from smooth copper tube of 8.7 mm inner diameter. The test runs are performed at evaporating temperatures of 10, 15, and 20 °C, heat fluxes of 20, 25, and 30 kW/m2, and mass fluxes of 200, 300, and 400 kg/m2 s. The quality of the refrigerant in the test section is calculated using the temperature and pressure obtained from the experiment. The pressure drop across the test section is measured directly by a differential pressure transducer. The effects of heat flux, mass flux, and evaporation temperature on the heat transfer coefficient and two-phase friction factor are also discussed. It is found that the percentage increases of the heat transfer coefficient and the two-phase friction factor of the corrugated tubes compared with those of the smooth tube are approximately 0-10% and 70-140%, respectively.  相似文献

This research investigates the effect of fly-ash deposit on thermal performance of a cross-flow heat exchanger having a set of spiral finned-tubes as a heat transfer surface. A stream of warm air having high content of fly-ash is exchanging heat with a cool water stream in the tubes. In this study, the temperature of the heat exchanger surface is lower than the dew point temperature of air, thus there is condensation of moisture in the air stream on the heat exchanger surface. The affecting parameters such as the fin spacing, the air mass flow rate, the fly-ash mass flow rate and the inlet temperature of warm air are varied while the volume flow rate and the inlet temperature of the cold water stream are kept constant at 10 l/min and 5 °C, respectively.

From the experiment, it is found that as the testing period is shorter than 8 h the thermal resistance due to the fouling increases with time. Moreover, the deposit of fly-ash on the heat transfer surface is directly proportional to the dust–air ratio and the amount of condensate on heat exchange surface. However, the deposit of fly-ash is inversely proportional to the fin spacing. The empirical model for evaluating the thermal resistance is also developed in this work and the simulated results agree well with those of the measured data.  相似文献

The quenching curves (temperature vs time) for small (∼1 cm) metallic spheres exposed to pure water and water-based nanofluids with alumina, silica and diamond nanoparticles at low concentrations (?0.1 vol%) were acquired experimentally. Both saturated (ΔTsub = 0 °C) and highly subcooled (ΔTsub = 70 °C) conditions were explored. The spheres were made of stainless steel and zircaloy, and were quenched from an initial temperature of ∼1000 °C. The results show that the quenching behavior in nanofluids is nearly identical to that in pure water. However, it was found that some nanoparticles accumulate on the sphere surface, which results in destabilization of the vapor film in subsequent tests with the same sphere, thus greatly accelerating the quenching process. The entire boiling curves were obtained from the quenching curves using the inverse heat transfer method, and revealed that alumina and silica nanoparticle deposition on the surface increases the critical heat flux and minimum heat flux temperature, while diamond nanoparticle deposition has a minimal effect on the boiling curve. The possible mechanisms by which the nanoparticles affect the quenching process were analyzed. It appears that surface roughness increase and wettability enhancement due to nanoparticle deposition may be responsible for the premature disruption of film boiling and the acceleration of quenching. The basic results were also confirmed by quench tests with rodlets.  相似文献

Experimental condensation heat transfer data for the new refrigerant R1234ze(E), trans-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene, are presented and compared with refrigerants R134a and R236fa for a vertically aligned, aluminum multi-port tube. Local condensation heat transfer measurements with such a multi-microchannel test section are very challenging due to the large uncertainties related to the heat flux estimation. Presently, a new experimental test facility was designed with a test section to directly measure the wall temperature along a vertically aligned aluminum multi-port tube with rectangular channels of 1.45 mm hydraulic diameter. Then, a new data reduction process was developed to compute the local condensation heat transfer coefficients accounting for the non-uniform distribution of the local heat flux along the channels. The condensation heat transfer coefficients showed the expected decrease as the vapor quality decreased (1.0-0.0) during the condensation process, as the mass velocity decreased (260-50 kg m−2 s−1) and as the saturation temperature increased (25-70 °C). However, the heat transfer coefficients were not affected by the condensing heat flux (1-62 kW m−2) or by the entrance conditions within the tested range. It was found that the heat transfer performance of R1234ze(E) was about 15-25% lower than for R134a but relatively similar to R236fa. The experimental data were then compared with leading prediction methods from the literature for horizontal channels. In general, the agreement was poor, over-predicting the high Nusselt number data and under-predicting the low Nusselt number data, but capturing the mid-range quite well. A modified correlation was developed and yielded a good agreement with the current database for all three fluids over a wide range of operating conditions.  相似文献
