In this study a thin film composite (TFC) membrane with a Pebax/Task-specific ionic liquid (TSIL) blend selective layer was prepared. Defect-free Pebax/TSIL layers were coated successfully on a polysulfone ultrafiltration porous support with a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) gutter layer. Different parameters in the membrane preparation (e.g. concentration, coating time) were investigated and optimized. The morphology of the membranes was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), while the thermal properties and chemical structures of the membrane materials were investigated by thermo-gravimetric analyzer (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The CO2 separation performance of the membrane was evaluated using a mixed gas permeation test. Experimental results show that the incorporation of TSIL into the Pebax matrix can significantly increase both CO2 permeance and CO2/N2 selectivity. With the presence of water vapor, the membrane exhibits the best CO2/N2 selectivity at a relative humidity of around 75%, where a CO2 permeance of around 500 GPU and a CO2/N2 selectivity of 46 were documented. A further increase in the relative humidity resulted in higher CO2 permeance but decreased CO2/N2 selectivity. Experiments also show that CO2 permeance decreases with a CO2 partial pressure increase, which is considered a characteristic in facilitated transport membranes.  相似文献

A new application for used reverse osmosis (RO) membranes as gas separation membranes was studied. In this regard, firstly, three pretreatment procedures were used to remove the foulants from the surface of used membrane and then they were coated with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). The results indicated that PDMS-coated used RO membranes were capable of separating O2/N2 and CO2/N2. The maximum O2/N2 and CO2/N2 selectivities of coated membranes were 5.9 and 32.5, respectively. The O2/N2 and CO2/N2 selectivities of PDMS membrane were reported in the range of 2.1–2.2 and 11–12, respectively. Finally, an economic assessment was carried out to compare prepared PDMS coated RO membranes with commercial PPO membrane. This showed that coated membranes are less expensive than PPO membrane for CO2/N2 gas separation. The outcome of the research was a simple method for converting used RO membranes to cost effective gas separation membranes.  相似文献

In this work, the films of poly(ether-block-amide) (Pebax 1657) and hydrophilic/hydrophobic silica nanoparticles (0–10 wt%) were coated on a poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) ultrafiltration membrane to form new mixed matrix composite membranes (MMCMs) for CO2/N2 separation. The membranes were characterized by SEM, FTIR, DSC and XRD. Successful formation of a non-porous defect-free dense top layer with ~4 μm of thickness and also uniform dispersion of silica nanoparticles up to 8 wt% loading in Pebax matrix were confirmed by SEM images. The gas permeation results showed an increase in the permeance of all gases and an increase in ideal CO2/N2 selectivity with the increase in silica nanoparticle contents. Comparison between the incorporation of hydrophilic and hydrophobic silica nanoparticle into Pebax matrix revealed that the great enhancement of CO2 solubility is the key factor for the performance improvement of Pebax + silica nanoparticle membranes. The best separation performance of the hydrophilic silica nanoparticle-incorporated Pebax/PVC membrane for pure gases (at 1 bar and 25 °C) was obtained with a CO2 permeability of 124 barrer and an ideal CO2/N2 selectivity of 76, i.e., 63 and 35% higher than those of neat Pebax membrane, respectively. The corresponding values for hydrophobic silica nanoparticle-incorporated Pebax/PVC membrane were 107 barrer for CO2 permeability and 61 for ideal CO2/N2 selectivity. Also the performances of MMCMs improved upon pressure increase (1–10 bar) owing to the shift in plasticizing effect of CO2 towards the higher pressures. In addition, an increase in permeabilities with a decrease in ideal selectivity was observed upon temperature increase (25–50 °C) due to the intensification of chain mobility.  相似文献

Polyethylenimine (PEI)/poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) blend membranes were prepared for the facilitated transport of CO2. The polymeric carrier PEI was retained in the blend membrane by the entanglement with PVA chains. The CO2 permeance decreased with an increase in CO2 partial pressure in feed gas, whereas the N2 permeance was nearly constant. This result clearly showed that only CO2 was transported by the facilitated transport mechanism. The CO2 and N2 permeabilities increased monotonically with the PEI weight percent in the blend membrane, whereas the selectivity of CO2 over N2 showed a maximum. The selectivity increased remarkably with increasing heat-treatment temperature of the membrane. The highest selectivity obtained reached more than 230 when the CO2 partial pressure was 0.065 atm. The prepared membrane was stable.  相似文献

Concurrent regulation of crystallographic orientation and thickness of zirconium metal–organic framework (Zr-MOF) membranes is challenging but promising for their performance enhancement. In this study, we pioneered the fabrication of uniform triangular-shaped, 40 nm thick UiO-66 nanosheet (NS) seeds by employing an anisotropic etching strategy. Through innovating confined counter-diffusion-assisted epitaxial growth, highly (111)-oriented 165 nm-thick UiO-66 membrane was prepared. The significant reduction in thickness and diffusion barrier in the framework endowed the membrane with unprecedented CO2 permeance (2070 GPU) as well as high CO2/N2 selectivity (35.4), which surpassed the performance limits of state-of-the-art polycrystalline MOF membranes. In addition, highly (111)-oriented 180 nm-thick NH2-UiO-66 membrane showing superb H2/CO2 separation performance with H2 permeance of 1230 GPU and H2/CO2 selectivity of 41.3, was prepared with the above synthetic procedure.  相似文献

Mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) made from inorganic fillers and polymers is a kind of promising candidate for gas separation. In this work, two‐dimensional MXene nanosheets were synthesized and incorporated into a polyether‐polyamide block copolymer (Pebax) matrix to fabricate MMM for CO2 capture. The physicochemical properties of MXene nanosheets and MXene/Pebax membranes were studied systematically. The introduction of MXene nanosheets provided additional molecular transport channels and meanwhile enhanced the CO2 adsorption capacity, thereby enhancing both the CO2 peremance and CO2/N2 selectivity of Pebax membrane. The optimized MXene/Pebax membrane with a MXene loading of 0.15 wt % displayed a high separation performance with a CO2 permeance of 21.6 GPU and a CO2/N2 selectivity of 72.5, showing potential application in CO2 capture.  相似文献

A series of well‐defined diblock copolymers (BCPs) consisting of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) were synthesized and blended with commercially available PEBAX® 2533 to form the active layer of thin‐film composite (TFC) membranes, via spin‐coating. BCPs with a PEG component ranging from 1 to 10 kDa and a PDMS component ranging from 1 to 10 kDa were synthesized by a facile condensation reaction of hydroxyl terminated PEG and carboxylic acid functionalized PDMS. The BCP/PEBAX® 2533 blends up to 50 wt % on cross‐linked PDMS gutter layers were tested at 35 °C and 350 kPa. TFC membranes containing BCPs of 1 kDa PEG and 1–5 kDa PDMS produced optimal results with CO2 permeances of approximately 1000 GPU which is an increase up to 250% of the permeance of pure PEBAX® 2533 composite membranes, while maintaining a CO2/N2 selectivity of 21. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Composite hollow fibers membranes were prepared by coating poly(phenylene oxide) (PPO) and polysulfone (PSf) hollow fibers with high molecular polyvinylamine (PVAm). Two procedures of coating hollow fibers outside and respective inside were investigated with respect to intrinsic PVAm solution properties and hollow fibers geometry and material. The influence of operating mode (sweep or vacuum) on the performances of membranes was investigated. Vacuum operating mode gave better results than using sweep because part of the sweep gas permeated into feed and induced an extra resistance to the most permeable gas the CO2. The composite PVAm/PSf HF membranes having a 0.7–1.5 μm PVAm selective layer, showed CO2/N2 selectivity between 100 and 230. The selectivity was attributed to the CO2 facilitated transport imposed by PVAm selective layer. The CO2 permeance changed from 0.006 to 0.022 m3(STP)/(m2 bar h) in direct correlation with CO2 permeance and separation mechanism of the individual porous supports used for membrane fabrication. The multilayer PVAm/PPO membrane using as support PPO hollow fibers with a 40 nm PPO dense skin layer, surprisingly presented an increase in selectivity with the increase in CO2 partial pressure. This trend was opposite to the facilitated transport characteristic behaviour of PVAm/porous PSf. This indicated that PVAm/PPO membrane represents a new membrane, with new properties and a hybrid mechanism, extremely stable at high pressure ratios. The CO2/N2 selectivity ranged between 20 and 500 and the CO2 permeance from 0.11 to 2.3 m3(STP)/(m2 bar h) depending on the operating conditions. For both PVAm/PSf and PVAm/PPO membranes, the CO2 permeance was similar with the CO2 permeance of uncoated hollow fiber supports, confirming that the CO2 diffusion rate limiting step resides in the properties of the relatively thick support, not at the level of 1.2 μm thin and water swollen PVAm selective layer. A dynamic transfer of the CO2 diffusion rate limiting step between PVAm top layer and PPO support was observed by changing the feed relative humidity (RH%). The CO2 diffusion rate was controlled by the PPO support when using humid feed. At low feed humidity the 1.2 μm PVAm top layer becomes the CO2 diffusion rate limiting step.  相似文献

Continuous microporous membranes are widely studied for gas separation, due to their low energy premium and strong molecular specificity. Porous aromatic frameworks (PAFs) with their exceptional stability and structural flexibility are suited to a wide range of separations. Main-stream PAF-based membranes are usually prepared with polymeric matrices, but their discrete entities and boundary defects weaken their selectivity and permeability. The synthesis of continuous PAF membranes is still a major challenge because PAFs are insoluble. Herein, we successfully synthesized a continuous PAF membrane for gas separation. Both pore size and chemistry of the PAF membrane were modified by ion-exchange, resulting in good selectivity and permeance for the gas mixtures H2/N2 and CO2/N2. The membrane with Br? as a counter ion in the framework exhibited a H2/N2 selectivity of 72.7 with a H2 permeance of 51844 gas permeation units (GPU). When the counter ions were replaced by BF4?, the membrane showed a CO2 permeance of 23058 GPU, and an optimized CO2/N2 selectivity of 60.0. Our results show that continuous PAF membranes with modifiable pores are promising for various gas separation situations.  相似文献

Three phase Pebax~? MH 1657/PEG-ran-PPG/CuBTC(polymer/liquid/solid) was successfully deposited as a selective layer on a porous Polysulfone(PSF) support. In fact, the beneficial properties of PEG(high selectivity) with those of PPG(high permeability, amorphous) have been combined with superior properties of mixed matrix membrane(MMMs). The membranes were characterized by DSC, TGA and SEM, while CuBTC was characterized by CO_2 and CH_4adsorption test. Statistically based experimental design(central composite design, CCD) was applied to analyze and optimize the effect of PEG-ran-PPG(10–50 wt%) and CuBTC(0–20 wt%) mass contents on the CO_2 permeance and CO_2/CH_4 ideal selectivity. Based on the regression coefficients of the obtained models, the CO_2 permeance was notably influenced by PEG-ran-PPG,while CuBTC has the most significant effect on the CO_2/CH_4 ideal selectivity. Under the optimum conditions(PEG-ran-PPG: 32.76 wt% and CuBTC: 20 wt%), nearly 620% increase in the CO_2 permeance and43% enhancement in the CO_2/CH_4 ideal selectivity was observed compared to the neat Pebax. The effect of pressure(3, 9 and 15 bar) on the pure and mixed gas separation performance of the composite membranes was also investigated. The high solubility of CO_2 in the membranes resulted in the enhancement of CO_2 permeability with increase in gas pressure.  相似文献

This work presents an attempt at correlating the available permeability/selectivity literature data for hollow fibers and flat membranes. Therefore, this paper gathers the information pertaining to membrane materials for which membrane properties of flat membranes and hollow fibers have both been reported. An overview of the relations between selectivity and permeance of hollow fiber membranes for various gas pairs (O2/N2, CO2/CH4, CO2/N2, H2/N2, H2/CO2, H2/CH4 and He/N2) is presented first. The upper bound lines are the ones proposed by Robeson, which were calculated by assuming a one-micron-thick skin layer as proposed by Robeson in 2008. From the results obtained, a relation between the selectivity ratio in both kinds of membranes (αHf) and skin layer thickness (l) calculated from flat membranes and hollow fibers gas permeation data for these pairs of gases is also presented. The skin layer thicknesses measured using seven different experimental techniques for six commercial membranes are compared. The influences of spinning parameters on the morphology and performance of hollow fiber membrane gas separation are discussed. Finally, an analysis is made of the reasons why the dense skin layer thicknesses of a hollow fiber calculated using permeance and permeability data vary for different gases and also differ from direct experimental measurements.  相似文献

We report that 6FDA-2,6-DAT polyimide can be used to fabricate hollow fiber membranes with excellent performances for CO2/CH4 separation. In order to simplify the hollow fiber fabrication process and verify the feasibility of 6FDA-2,6-DAT hollow fiber membranes for CO2/CH4 separation, a new one-polymer and one-solvent spinning system (6FDA-2,6-DAT/N-methyl-pyrrolidone (NMP)) with much simpler processing conditions has been developed and the separation performance of newly developed 6FDA-2,6-DAT hollow fiber membranes has been further studied under the pure and mixed gas systems.Experimental results reveal that 6FDA-2,6-DAT asymmetric composite hollow fiber membranes have a strong tendency to be plasticized by CO2 and suffer severely physical aging with an initial CO2 permeance of 300 GPU drifting to 76 GPU at the steady state. However, the 6FDA-2,6-DAT asymmetric composite hollow fibers still present impressive ultimate stabilized performance with a CO2/CH4 selectivity of 40 and a CO2 permeance of 59 GPU under mixed gas tests. These results manifest that 6FDA-2,6-DAT polyimide is one of promising membrane material candidates for CO2/CH4 separation application.  相似文献

Technology designed to capture and store carbon dioxide (CO2) will play a significant role in the near-term reduction of CO2 emissions and is considered necessary to slow global warming. Nanoporous carbon (NPC) membranes show promise as a new generation of gas separation membranes suitable for CO2 capture. We have made supported NPC membranes from polyfurfuryl alcohol (PFA) at various pyrolysis temperatures. Positron annihilation lifetime spectrometry (PALS) and wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) results indicate that the pore size decreases whilst the porosity increases with increasing pyrolysis temperature. The membrane performance results support these findings with a significant increase in permeance being seen with increasing pyrolysis temperature, which relates to the increase in porosity.Mixed gas performance measurements also show an increase in CH4 permeance as the operating temperature is increased from 35 to 200 °C, which can be related to an increase in the rate of diffusion. However, the selectivity decreases with increasing operating temperature due to the smaller changes in the CO2 permeance. These smaller changes in CO2 permeance can be related to the stronger adsorption of this gas on the carbon surface at lower operating temperatures. Interestingly, regardless of the original pyrolysis temperature, the selectivity at higher operating temperatures is similar, whereas the permeance remains related to this pyrolysis temperature.  相似文献

Achieving high membrane performance in terms of gas permeance and carbon dioxide selectivity is an important target in carbon capture. Aiming to manipulate the channel affinity towards CO2 to implement efficient separations, gas separation membranes containing CO2‐philic and non‐CO2‐philic nanodomains in the interlayer channels of graphene oxide (GO) were formed by intercalating poly(ethylene glycol) diamines (PEGDA). PEGDA reacts with epoxy groups on the GO surface, constructing CO2‐philic nanodomains and rendering a high sorption capacity, whereas unreacted GO surfaces give non‐CO2‐philic nanodomains, rendering low‐friction diffusion. Owing to the orderly stacking of nanochannels through cross‐linking and the heterogeneous nanodomains with moderate CO2 affinity, a GO‐PEGDA500 membrane exhibits a high CO2 permeance of 175.5 GPU and a CO2/CH4 selectivity of 69.5, which is the highest performance reported for dry‐state GO‐stacking membranes.  相似文献

Graphene oxide (GO) membranes holds great potential for high-performance CO2 capture. Aiming at enhancing the CO2 separation performance and structural stability of GO membranes, functionalizing GO channels with metal ions confers a promising strategy. In this study, we reported the fabrication of metal ion-incorporated GO membranes with remarkably improved CO2/N2 separation performance. The metal ions within GO channels contribute to facilitating CO2 transport, decreasing N2 solubility, hindering N2 diffusion, and form multiple interactions with GO nanosheets. After introducing Mg2+ ions, the CO2/N2 separation factor of GO membrane is remarkably increased from 4 to 48.8 with the CO2 permeance increases 1.5 times. Moreover, the separation performance of the GO-Mg2+ membranes shows an excellent long-term stability owing to the structural robustness. This study could provide insights into the regulation of the microstructure of metal ion-functionalized GO membranes for highly selective transport of specific molecules.  相似文献

A concept demonstration has been made to simultaneously enhance both O2 and CO2 gas permeance and O2/N2 and CO2/CH4 selectivity via intelligently decoupling the effects of elongational and shear rates on dense-selective layer and optimizing spinning conditions in dual-layer hollow fiber fabrication. The dual-layer polyethersulfone hollow fiber membranes developed in this work exhibit an O2/N2 selectivity of 6.96 and an O2 permeance of 4.79 GPU which corresponds to an ultrathin dense-selective layer of 918 Å at room temperature. These hollow fibers also show an impressive CO2/CH4 selectivity of 49.8 in the mixed gas system considering the intrinsic value of only 32 for polyethersulfone dense films. To our best knowledge, this is the first time to achieve such a high CO2/CH4 selectivity without incorporating any material modification. The above gas separation performance demonstrates that the optimization of dual-layer spinning conditions with balanced elongational and shear rates is an effective approach to produce superior hollow fiber membranes for oxygen enrichment and natural gas separation.  相似文献

Metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs)‐based membranes have shown great potentials as applications in gas separation. In this work, a uniform membrane based on 2D MOF Ni3(HITP)2 (HITP=2,3,6,7,10,11‐hexaaminotriphenylene) was fabricated on ordered macroporous AAO via the filtration method. To fabricate the membrane, we obtained the Ni3(HITP)2 nanosheets as building blocks via a soft‐physical exfoliation method successfully that were confirmed by AFM and TEM. We also studied the H2, CO2 and N2 adsorption isotherms of Ni3(HITP)2 powder at room temperature, which shows Ni3(HITP)2 has high heats of adsorption for CO2 and high selectivity of CO2 over N2. Gas permeation tests indicate that the Ni3(HITP)2 membrane shows high permeance and selectivity of CO2 over N2, as well as good selectivity of H2 over N2. The ideal separation factors of CO2/N2 and H2/N2 from sing‐gas permeances are 13.6 and 7.8 respectively, with CO2 permeance of 3.15×10?6 mol?m?2?s?1?Pa?1. The membrane also showed good stability, durability and reproducibility, which are of potential interest for practical applications in the CO2 separations.  相似文献

Faujasite-type zeolite membranes were reproducibly synthesized by hydrothermal reaction on the outer surface of a porous α-alumina support tube of 30 or 200 mm in length. The membrane properties were evaluated by CO2 separation from an equimolar mixture of CO2 and N2 at a permeation temperature of 40°C. CO2 permeance and CO2/N2 selectivity of the NaY-type membranes were in the ranges of 0.4×10−6–2.5×10−6 mol m−2 s−1 Pa−1 and 20–50, respectively. The NaY-type membranes were ion-exchanged with alkali and alkaline earth cations. The LiY-type membrane showed the highest N2 permeance and the lowest CO2/N2 selectivity. The KY-type membrane gave the highest CO2/N2 selectivity. The NaY-type membrane was stable against exposure to air at 400°C. NaX-type zeolite membranes, formed by decreasing the ratio of SiO2/Al2O3 in the starting solution, exhibited lower CO2 permeances and higher CO2/N2 selectivities than those of the NaY-type zeolite membranes.  相似文献

Thin membranes (900 nm) were prepared by direct transformation of infiltrated amorphous precursor nanoparticles, impregnated in a graphene oxide (GO) matrix, into hydroxy sodalite (SOD) nanocrystals. The amorphous precursor particles rich in silanols (Si−OH) enhanced the interactions with the GO, thus leading to the formation of highly adhesive and stable SOD/GO membranes via strong bonding. The cross-linking of SOD nanoparticles with the GO in the membranes promoted both the high gas permeance and enhanced selectivity towards H2 from a mixture containing CO2 and H2O. The SOD/GO membranes are moisture resistance and exhibit steady separation performance (H2 permeance of about 4900 GPU and H2/CO2 selectivity of 56, with no degradation in performance during the test of 50 h) at high temperature (200 °C) under water vapor (4 mol %).  相似文献
