The sequences of quasi-orthogonal polynomials of order r are defined for non-quasi-definite moment functionals. Properties concerning the existence of such sequences, and relations between a quasi-orthogonal polynomial of order r and a set of orthogonal polynomials are proved. Two determinantal expressions of quasi-orthogonal polynomials of order r are given. At last it is proved that three consecutive polynomials of a sequence of quasi-orthogonal polynomials of order r satisfy a three term recurrence relation.  相似文献

The formula of expressing the coefficients of an expansion of ultraspherical polynomials that has been integrated an arbitrary number of times in terms of the coefficients of the original expansion is stated in a more compact form and proved in a simpler way than the formula of Phillips and Karageorghis (1990). A new formula is proved for the q times integration of ultraspherical polynomials, of which the Chebyshev polynomials of the first and second kinds and Legendre polynomials are important special cases. An application of these formulae for solving ordinary differential equations with varying coefficients is discussed.  相似文献

An analytical formula expressing the ultraspherical coefficients of an expansion for an infinitely differentiable function that has been integrated an arbitrary number of times in terms of the coefficients of the original expansion of the function is stated in a more compact form and proved in a simpler way than the formula suggested by Phillips and Karageorghis (27 (1990) 823). A new formula expressing explicitly the integrals of ultraspherical polynomials of any degree that has been integrated an arbitrary number of times of ultraspherical polynomials is given. The tensor product of ultraspherical polynomials is used to approximate a function of more than one variable. Formulae expressing the coefficients of differentiated expansions of double and triple ultraspherical polynomials in terms of the original expansion are stated and proved. Some applications of how to use ultraspherical polynomials for solving ordinary and partial differential equations are described.  相似文献

By employing certain operational methods, the authors introduce Hermite-based Appell polynomials. Some properties of Hermite-Appell polynomials are considered, which proved to be useful for the derivation of identities involving these polynomials. The possibility of extending this technique to introduce Hermite-based Sheffer polynomials (for example, Hermite-Laguerre and Hermite-Sister Celine's polynomials) is also investigated.  相似文献

Fibonacci (alias Chebyshev) polynomials enjoy particular composition properties. These can be seen (and proved) from a combinatorial perspective by interpreting these polynomials as matching polynomials. For discrete multiple orthogonal polynomials such as the multiple Charlier polynomials, the multiple Meixner polynomials, and the multiple Hahn polynomials, we first find a lowering operator and then give a (r+1)th order difference equation by combining the lowering operator with the raising operator. In this work by replacing the initial data in recursive relations the Shapiro polynomials of the second kind were introduced and their relation to the Shapiro polynomials of the first kind was established. New integral and differential formulas for zonal polynomials are proved. As illustrations, zonal polynomials corresponding to partitions of two parts are computed. A method is presented, based on a certain partial differential operator, for expressing an orthogonally invariant polynomial as a linear combination of zonals. Summary Applying Newton's method to a particular system of nonlinear equations we derive methods for the simultaneous computation of all zeros of generalized polynomials. These generalized polynomials are from a function space satisfying a condition similar to Haar's condition. By this approach we bring together recent methods for trigonometric and exponential polynomials and a well-known method for ordinary polynomials. The quadratic convergence of these methods is an immediate consequence of our approach and needs not to be proved explicitly. Moreover, our approach yields new interesting methods for ordinary, trigonometric and exponential polynomials and methods for other functions occuring in approximation theory.  相似文献

Two finite hypergeometric sequences of symmetric orthogonal polynomials of a discrete variable are introduced and their standard properties, such as second-order difference equations, explicit forms of the polynomials and three term recurrence relations are obtained. Para‐orthogonal polynomials derived from orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle are known to have all their zeros on the unit circle. In this note we study the zeros of a family of hypergeometric para‐orthogonal polynomials. As tools to study these polynomials, we obtain new results which can be considered as extensions of certain classical results associated with three term recurrence relations and differential equations satisfied by orthogonal polynomials on the real line. One of these results which might be considered as an extension of the classical Sturm comparison theorem, enables us to obtain monotonicity with respect to the parameters for the zeros of these para‐orthogonal polynomials. Finally, a monotonicity of the zeros of Meixner‐Pollaczek polynomials is proved.  相似文献

A class of generalized polynomials is considered consisting of the null spaces of certain differential operators with constant coefficients. This class strictly contains ordinary polynomials and appropriately scaled trigonometric polynomials. An analog of the classical Bernstein operator is introduced and it is shown that generalized Bernstein polynomials of a continuous function converge to this function. A convergence result is also proved for degree elevation of the generalized polynomials. Moreover, the geometric nature of these functions is discussed and a connection with certain rational parametric curves is established. The concept of almost-normed spaces is introduced. It is proved that the space of sufficiently smooth functions asymptotically approximating to polynomials (of degrees no higher than a given one) as their argument tends to infinity is an almost-normed space. It is demonstrated that this space is a complete metric space with respect to the metrics generated by the almost-norm introduced. The space of functions strongly asymptotically approximating to polynomials is defined, and its embedding into the space of functions asymptotically approximating to polynomials is proved. The results obtained give a new approach to studying boundary-value problems with asymptotic initial value data at singular points of ordinary differential equations.  相似文献
