In a general normed vector space, we study the minimal time function determined by a differential inclusion where the set-valued mapping involved has constant values of a bounded closed convex set U and by a closed target set S. We show that proximal and Fréchet subdifferentials of a minimal time function are representable by virtue of corresponding normal cones of sublevel sets of the function and level or suplevel sets of the support function of U. The known results in the literature require the set U to have the origin as an interior point or U be compact. (In particular, if the set U is the unit closed ball, the results obtained reduce to the subdifferential of the distance function defined by S.)  相似文献

In the present paper the study of flows on n-manifolds in particular in dimension three, e.g., R3, is motivated by the following question. Let A be a compact invariant set in a flow on X. Does every neighbourhood of A contain a movable invariant set M containing A? It is known that a stable solenoid in a flow on a 3-manifold has approximating periodic orbits in each of its neighbourhoods. The solenoid with the approximating orbits form a movable set, although the solenoid is not movable. Not many such examples are known. The main part of the paper consists of constructing an example of a set in R3 that is not stable, is not a solenoid, and is approximated by Denjoy-like invariant sets instead of periodic orbits. As in the case of a solenoid, the constructed set is an inverse limit of its approximating sets. This gives a partial answer to the above question.  相似文献

It is proved that if Γ is a compact, embedded hypersurface in a totally geodesic hypersurface ? n of ? n+1 satisfying the enclosing H-hypersphere condition with |H|<1, then there is one and only one (up to a reflection on ? n ) compact embedded constant mean curvature H hypersurface M such that ?M=Γ. Let A be a uniform algebra on the compact space X and σ a probability measure on X. We define the Hardy spaces HP(σ) and the HP(σ) interpolating sequences S in the p-spectrum Mp of σ. Under some structural hypotheses on (A, σ), we prove that if a sequence SMp is HP(σ) interpolating, then it is Hs(σ) interpolating for s < p. We say that a setA ⊂ ℂ n is quadratically convex if its complement is a union of quadratic hypersurfaces. Some geometric properties of quadratically convex sets are investigated; in particular, they are related to lineally convex sets in a space of higher dimension. We say thatA is strongly quadratically convex if a certain generalization of the Fantappiè transform is surjective, which in effect means that we have a representation for any function holomorphic onA as a superposition of reciprocals of quadratic expressions. The main theorem in this paper gives a sufficient condition for a compact set to be strongly quadratically convex. Using integral representation formulas for holomorphic functions, an explicit inversion formula for the transform is obtained.  相似文献

We study the order dimension of the lattice of closed sets for a convex geometry. We show that the lattice of closed subsets of the planar point set of Erd?s and Szekeres from 1961, which is a set of 2 n???2 points and contains no vertex set of a convex n-gon, has order dimension n???1 and any larger set of points has order dimension at least n.  相似文献

Let K ? ?d be a compact convex set which is an intersection of half-spaces defined by at most two coordinates. Let Q be the smallest axes-parallel box containing K. We show that, as the dimension d grows, the ratio diam Q/ diam K can be arbitrarily large. A ball of maximal radius inscribed in a convex closed bounded set with a nonempty interior is considered in the class of uniformly convex Banach spaces. It is shown that, under certain conditions, the centers of inscribed balls form a uniformly continuous (as a set function) set-valued mapping in the Hausdorff metric. In a finite-dimensional space of dimension n, the set of centers of balls inscribed in polyhedra with a fixed collection of normals satisfies the Lipschitz condition with respect to sets in the Hausdorff metric. A Lipschitz continuous single-valued selector of the set of centers of balls inscribed in such polyhedra can be found by solving n + 1 linear programming problems.  相似文献

Milman proved that there exists an absolute constant C > 0 such that, for every convex body K in ? n , there exists a linear image TK of K with volume 1, such that |TK + D n |1/n C, where D n is the Euclidean ball of volume 1. TK is then said to be in M-position. Giannopoulos and Milman asked if every convex body that has minimal surface area among all its affine images of volume 1 is also in M-position. In cone uniform spaces X, using the concept of the D-family of cone pseudodistances, the distance between two not necessarily convex or compact sets A and B in X is defined, the concepts of cyclic and noncyclic set-valued dynamic systems of D-relatively quasi-asymptotic contractions T:AB→2AB are introduced and the best approximation and best proximity point theorems for such contractions are proved. Also conditions are given which guarantee that for each starting point each generalized sequence of iterations of these contractions (in particular, each dynamic process) converges and the limit is a best proximity point. Moreover, D-families are constructed, characterized and compared. The results are new for set-valued and single-valued dynamic systems in cone uniform, cone locally convex and cone metric spaces. Various examples illustrating ideas, methods, definitions and results are constructed.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the set of scalar-flat metrics which are in the conformal class of g and have ?M as a constant mean curvature hypersurface. Given A?{a1,…,am}⊂Rd whose affine hull is Rd, we study the problems of computing an approximate rounding of the convex hull of A and an approximation to the minimum-volume enclosing ellipsoid of A. In the case of centrally symmetric sets, we first establish that Khachiyan's barycentric coordinate descent (BCD) method is exactly the polar of the deepest cut ellipsoid method using two-sided symmetric cuts. This observation gives further insight into the efficient implementation of the BCD method. We then propose a variant algorithm which computes an approximate rounding of the convex hull of A, and which can also be used to compute an approximation to the minimum-volume enclosing ellipsoid of A. Our algorithm is a modification of the algorithm of Kumar and Y?ld?r?m, which combines Khachiyan's BCD method with a simple initialization scheme to achieve a slightly improved polynomial complexity result, and which returns a small “core set.” We establish that our algorithm computes an approximate solution to the dual optimization formulation of the minimum-volume enclosing ellipsoid problem that satisfies a more complete set of approximate optimality conditions than either of the two previous algorithms. Furthermore, this added benefit is achieved without any increase in the improved asymptotic complexity bound of the algorithm of Kumar and Y?ld?r?m or any increase in the bound on the size of the computed core set. In addition, the “dropping idea” used in our algorithm has the potential of computing smaller core sets in practice. We also discuss several possible variants of this dropping technique.  相似文献

Given a convex n-gon P in R2 with vertices in general position, it is well known that the simplicial complex θ(P) with vertex set given by diagonals in P and facets given by triangulations of P is the boundary complex of a polytope of dimension n−3. We prove that for any non-convex polygonal region P with n vertices and h+1 boundary components, θ(P) is a ball of dimension n+3h−4.
