Navier‐Stokes equations with shear dependent viscosity under the classical non‐slip boundary condition have been introduced and studied, in the sixties, by O. A. Ladyzhenskaya and, in the case of gradient dependent viscosity, by J.‐L. Lions. A particular case is the well known Smagorinsky turbulence model. This is nowadays a central subject of investigation. On the other hand, boundary conditions of slip type seems to be more realistic in some situations, in particular in numerical applications. They are a main research subject. The existence of weak solutions u to the above problems, with slip (or non‐slip) type boundary conditions, is well known in many cases. However, regularity up to the boundary still presents many open questions. In what follows we present some regularity results, in the stationary case, for weak solutions to this kind of problems; see Theorems 3.1 and 3.2. The evolution problem is studied in the forthcoming paper [6]; see the remark at the end of the introduction. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

The paper is devoted to the investigation of a parabolic partial differential equation with non‐local and time‐dependent boundary conditions arising from ductal carcinoma in situ model. Approximation solution of the present problem is implemented by the Ritz–Galerkin method, which is a first attempt at tackling parabolic equation with such non‐classical boundary conditions. In the process of dealing with the difficulty caused by integral term in non‐local boundary condition, we use a trick of introducing the transition function G(x,t) to convert non‐local boundary to another non‐classical boundary, which can be handled with the Ritz–Galerkin method. Illustrative examples are included to demonstrate the validity and applicability of the technique in this paper. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We consider an initial and boundary value problem for a homogenous string subject to an internal pointwise control. The solution resulting from a non‐linear feedback is studied. We give various explicit decay estimates depending on the control position and the feedback non‐linearity. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the conductivity problem with piecewise‐constant conductivity and Robin‐type boundary condition on the interface of discontinuity. When the quantity of interest is the jump of the conductivity, we perform a local stability estimate for a parameterized non‐monotone family of domains. We give also a quantitative stability result of local optimal solution with respect to a perturbation of the Robin parameter. In order to find an optimal solution, we propose a Kohn–Vogelius‐type cost functional over a class of admissible domains subject to two boundary values problems. The analysis of the stability involves the computation of first‐order and second‐order shape derivative of the proposed cost functional, which is performed rigorously by means of shape‐Lagrangian formulation without using the shape sensitivity of the states variables. © 2016 The Author. We study the initial boundary value problem resulting from the linearization of the equations of ideal incompressible magnetohydrodynamics and the jump conditions on the hypersurface of tangential discontinuity (current–vortex sheet) about an unsteady piecewise smooth solution. Under some assumptions on the unperturbed flow, we prove an energy a priori estimate for the linearized problem. Since the so‐called loss of derivatives in the normal direction to the boundary takes place even for the constant coefficients linearized problem, for the variable coefficients problem and non‐planar current–vortex sheets the natural functional setting is provided by the anisotropic weighted Sobolev space W21,σ. The result of this paper is a necessary step to prove the local in time existence of solutions of the original non‐linear free boundary value problem. The uniqueness of the regular solution of this problem follows already from the a priori estimate we obtain for the linearized problem. Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the Petrov–Galerkin spectral method for fourth‐order elliptic problems on rectangular domains subject to non‐homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. We derive some sharp results on the orthogonal approximations in one and two dimensions, which play important roles in numerical solutions of higher‐order problems. By applying these results to a fourth‐order problem, we establish the H2‐error and L2‐error bounds of the Petrov–Galerkin spectral method. Numerical experiments are provided to illustrate the high accuracy of the proposed method and coincide well with the theoretical analysis. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We consider a class of non‐selfadjoint operators generated by the equation and the boundary conditions, which govern small vibrations of an ideal filament with non‐conservative boundary conditions at one end and a heavy load at the other end. The filament has a non‐constant density and is subject to a viscous damping with a non‐constant damping coefficient. The boundary conditions contain two arbitrary complex parameters. In our previous paper (Mathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences 2001; 24 (15) : 1139–1169), we have derived the asymptotic approximations for the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the aforementioned non‐selfadjoint operators when the boundary parameters were arbitrary complex numbers except for one specific value of one of the parameters. We call this value the critical value of the boundary parameter. It has been shown (in Mathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences 2001; 24 (15) : 1139–1169) that the entire set of the eigenvalues is located in a strip parallel to the real axis. The latter property is crucial for the proof of the fact that the set of the root vectors of the operator forms a Riesz basis in the state space of the system. In the present paper, we derive the asymptotics of the spectrum exactly in the case of the critical value of the boundary parameter. We show that in this case, the asymptotics of the eigenvalues is totally different, i.e. both the imaginary and real parts of eigenvalues tend to ∞as the number of an eigenvalue increases. We will show in our next paper, that as an indirect consequence of such a behaviour of the eigenvalues, the set of the root vectors of the corresponding operator is not uniformly minimal (let alone the Riesz basis property). We prove existence and uniqueness of strong solutions to a quasilinear parabolic‐elliptic system modelling an ionic exchanger. This chemical system consists of three phases connected with nonlinear boundary conditions. The most interesting difficulty of our problem manifests in the nonlinear transmission condition, as almost all quantities are non‐linearly involved in this boundary equation. Our approach is based on the contraction mapping principle, where maximal Lp‐regularity of the associated linear problem is used to obtain a fixed point equation of the starting problem. This article deals with a boundary value problem for Laplace equation with a non‐linear and non‐local boundary condition. This problem comes from petroleum engineering and is used to obtain an estimation of well productivity. The non‐linear and non‐local boundary condition is written on the well boundary. On the outer reservoir boundaries, we have both Dirichlet and Neumann conditions. In this paper, we prove the existence and uniqueness of a solution to this problem. The existence is proved by Schauder theorem and the uniqueness is obtained under more restricted conditions, when the involved operator is a contraction. The paper is the second in a set of two papers, which are devoted to a unified approach to the problem of completeness of the generalized eigenvectors (the root vectors) for a specific class of linear non‐selfadjoint unbounded matrix differential operators. The list of the problems for which such operators are the dynamics generators includes the following: (a) initial boundary‐value problem (IBVP) for a non‐homogeneous string with both distributed and boundary damping; (b) IBVP for small vibrations of an ideal filament with a one‐parameter family of dissipative boundary conditions at one end and with a heavy load at the other end; this filament problem is treated for two cases of the boundary parameter: non‐singular and singular; (c) IBVP for a three‐dimensional damped wave equation with spherically symmetric coefficients and both distributed and boundary damping; (d) IBVP for a system of two coupled hyperbolic equations constituting a Timoshenko beam model with variable coefficients and boundary damping; (e) IBVP for a coupled Euler‐Bernoulli and Timoshenko beam model with boundary energy dissipation (the model known in engineering literature as bending‐torsion vibration model); (f) IBVP for two coupled Timoshenko beams model, which is currently accepted as an appropriate model describing vibrational behavior of a longer double‐walled carbon nanotube. Problems have been discussed in the first paper of the aforementioned set. Problems are discussed in the present paper.  相似文献

This article addresses nonlinear wave equations with supercritical interior and boundary sources, and subject to interior and boundary damping. The presence of a nonlinear boundary source alone is known to pose a significant difficulty since the linear Neumann problem for the wave equation is not, in general, well‐posed in the finite‐energy space H1(Ω) × L2(?Ω) with boundary data in L2 due to the failure of the uniform Lopatinskii condition. Further challenges stem from the fact that both sources are non‐dissipative and are not locally Lipschitz operators from H1(Ω) into L2(Ω), or L2(?Ω). With some restrictions on the parameters in the model and with careful analysis involving the Nehari Manifold, we obtain global existence of a unique weak solution, and establish exponential and algebraic uniform decay rates of the finite energy (depending on the behavior of the dissipation terms). Moreover, we prove a blow up result for weak solutions with nonnegative initial energy.  相似文献

The quenching problem is examined for a one‐dimensional heat equation with a non‐linear boundary condition that is of either local or non‐local type. Sufficient conditions are derived that establish both quenching and non‐quenching behaviour. The growth rate of the solution near quenching is also given for a power‐law non‐linearity. The analysis is conducted in the context of a nonlinear Volterra integral equation that is equivalent to the initial–boundary value problem. Copyright © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We consider the blowup of solutions of the initial boundary value problem for a class of non‐linear evolution equations with non‐linear damping and source terms. By using the energy compensation method, we prove that when p>max{m, α}, where m, α and p are non‐negative real numbers and m+1, α+1, p+1 are, respectively, the growth orders of the non‐linear strain terms, damping term and source term, under the appropriate conditions, any weak solution of the above‐mentioned problem blows up in finite time. Comparison of the results with the previous ones shows that there exist some clear condition boundaries similar to thresholds among the growth orders of the non‐linear terms, the states of the initial energy and the existence and non‐existence of global weak solutions. In the forthcoming papers, based on the asymptotical results of the present paper, we will prove the Riesz basis property of the eigenfunctions. The spectral results obtained in the aforementioned papers will allow us to solve boundary and/or distributed controllability problems for the filament using the spectral decomposition method. We consider the problem of the asymptotic behaviour in the L2‐norm of solutions of the Navier–Stokes equations. We consider perturbations to the rest state and to stationary motions. In both cases we study the initial‐boundary value problem in unbounded domains with non‐compact boundary. In particular, we deal with domains with varying and possibly divergent exits to infinity and aperture domains. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We consider a boundary‐transmission problem for the Helmholtz equation, in a Bessel potential space setting, which arises within the context of wave diffraction theory. The boundary under consideration consists of a strip, and certain conditions are assumed on it in the form of oblique derivatives. Operator theoretical methods are used to deal with the problem and, as a consequence, several convolution type operators are constructed and associated to the problem. At the end, the well‐posedness of the problem is shown for a range of non‐critical regularity orders of the Bessel potential spaces, which include the finite energy norm space. In addition, an operator normalization method is applied to the critical orders case. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We study the existence and multiplicity of solutions for a nonlinear boundary value problem subject to perturbations of impulsive terms. Under suitable assumptions on the potential of the nonlinearity, the existence of one or two solutions is established. Our approach is based on a local minimum theorem and a two non‐zero critical points for differentiable functionals. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to Stokes and Navier–Stokes problems with non‐standard boundary conditions: we consider, in particular, the case where the pressure is given on a part of the boundary. These problems were studied by Bégue, Conca, Murat and Pironneau. They proved the existence of variational solutions, indicating that these were solutions of the initial non‐standard problems, if they are regular enough, but without specifying the conditions on the data which would imply this regularity. In this paper, first we show that the variational solutions, on supposing pressure on the boundary Γ2 of regularity H1/2 instead of H?1/2, have their Laplacians in L2 and, therefore, are solutions of non‐standard Stokes problem. Next, we give a result of regularity H2, which we generalize, obtaining regularities Wm, r, m∈?, m?2, r?2. Finally, by a fixed‐point argument, we prove analogous results for the Navier–Stokes problem, in the case where the viscosity νis large compared to the data. We consider a class of quasi‐linear evolution equations with non‐linear damping and source terms arising from the models of non‐linear viscoelasticity. By a Galerkin approximation scheme combined with the potential well method we prove that when m<p, where m(?0) and p are, respectively, the growth orders of the non‐linear strain terms and the source term, under appropriate conditions, the initial boundary value problem of the above‐mentioned equations admits global weak solutions and the solutions decay to zero as t→∞.
