Parametrices of elliptic boundary value problems for differential operators belong to an algebra of pseudodifferential operators with the transmission property at the boundary. However, generically, smooth symbols on a manifold with boundary do not have this property, and several interesting applications require a corresponding more general calculus. We introduce here a new algebra of boundary value problems that contains Shapiro-Lopatinskij elliptic as well as global projection conditions; the latter ones are necessary, if an analogue of the Atiyah-Bott obstruction does not vanish. We show that every elliptic operator admits (up to a stabilisation) elliptic conditions of that kind. Corresponding boundary value problems are then Fredholm in adequate scales of spaces. Moreover, we construct parametrices in the calculus.  相似文献

We consider quasicomplexes of pseudodifferential operators on a smooth compact manifold without boundary. To each quasicomplex we associate a complex of symbols. The quasicomplex is elliptic if this symbol complex is exact away from the zero section. We prove that elliptic quasicomplexes are Fredholm. Moreover, we introduce the Euler characteristic for elliptic quasicomplexes and prove a generalisation of the Atiyah–Singer index theorem.  相似文献

A new class of elliptic pseudodifferential equations of variable order is considered. Local Sobolev–Slobodetskii spaces are introduced and used to obtain theorems on the continuity of these pseudodifferential operators and describe the Fredholm properties of the corresponding pseudodifferential equations and boundary value problems.  相似文献

We investigate general Shapiro-Lopatinsky elliptic boundary value problems on manifolds with polycylindrical ends. This is accomplished by compactifying such a manifold to a manifold with corners of in general higher codimension, and we then deal with boundary value problems for cusp differential operators. We introduce an adapted Boutet de Monvel's calculus of pseudodifferential boundary value problems, and construct parametrices for elliptic cusp operators within this calculus. Fredholm solvability and elliptic regularity up to the boundary and up to infinity for boundary value problems on manifolds with polycylindrical ends follows.  相似文献

We obtain some new bifurcation criteria for solutions of general boundary value problems for nonlinear elliptic systems of partial differential equations. The results are of different nature from the ones that can be obtained via the traditional Lyapunov–Schmidt reduction. Our sufficient conditions for bifurcation are derived from the Atiyah–Singer family index theorem and therefore they depend only on the coefficients of derivatives of leading order of the linearized differential operators. They are computed explicitly from the coefficients without the need of solving the linearized equations. Moreover, they are stable under lower order perturbations.  相似文献

In this work we consider the η‐invariant for pseudodifferential operators of tensor product type, also called bisingular pseudodifferential operators. We study complex powers of classical bisingular operators. We prove the trace property for the Wodzicki residue of bisingular operators and show how the residues of the η‐function can be expressed in terms of the Wodzicki trace of a projection operator. Then we calculate the K‐theory of the algebra of 0‐order (global) bisingular operators. With these preparations we establish the regularity properties of the η‐function at the origin for global bisingular operators which are self‐adjoint, elliptic and of positive orders.  相似文献

Operators with Singular Trace Conditions on a Manifold with Edges   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We establish a new calculus of pseudodifferential operators on a manifold with smooth edges and study ellipticity with extra trace and potential conditions (as well as Green operators) at the edge. In contrast to the known scenario with conditions of that kind in integral form we admit in this paper ‘singular’ trace and Green operators. In contrast to standard conditions in the theory of elliptic boundary value problems (like Dirichlet or Neumann conditions) our singular trace conditions, in general, do not act on functions that are smooth up to the boundary, but admit a more general asymptotic structure. Their action is now associated with the Laurent coefficients of the meromorphic Mellin transforms of functions with respect to the half-axis variable, the distance to the edge.  相似文献

A families index theorem in K-theory is given for the setting of Atiyah, Patodi, and Singer of a family of Dirac operators with spectral boundary condition. This result is deduced from such a K-theory index theorem for the calculus of cusp, or more generally fibred-cusp, pseudodifferential operators on the fibres (with boundary) of a fibration; a version of Poincaré duality is also shown in this setting, identifying the stable Fredholm families with elements of a bivariant K-group. We study quasilinear elliptic equations with strong nonlinear terms and systems of such equations. The methods developed by the authors in [1], [2] are used to prove the existence of solutions for boundary—value problems using some information on behavior of potential bounds for nonlinearities; the L–characteristics of elliptic operators and their fractional powers play an important role. New conditions are suggested for the existence of classical solutions of quasilinear second order elliptic equations.  相似文献

The computation of a stable homotopic classification of elliptic operators is an important problem of elliptic theory. The classical solution of this problem is given by Atiyah and Singer for the case of smooth compact manifolds. It is formulated in terms of K-theory for a cotangent fibering of the given manifold. It cannot be extended for the case of nonsmooth manifolds because their cotangent fiberings do not contain all necessary information. Another Atiyah definition might fit in such a case: it is based on the concept of abstract elliptic operators and is given in term of K-homologies of the manifold itself (instead of its fiberings). Indeed, this theorem is recently extended for manifolds with conic singularities, ribs, and general so-called stratified manifolds: it suffices just to replace the phrase “smooth manifold” by the phrase “stratified manifold” (of the corresponding class). Thus, stratified manifolds is a strange phenomenon in a way: the algebra of symbols of differential (pseudodifferential) operators is quite noncommutative on such manifolds (the symbol components corresponding to strata of positive codimensions are operator-valued functions), but the solution of the classification problem can be found in purely geometric terms. In general, it is impossible for other classes of nonsmooth manifolds. In particular, the authors recently found that, for manifolds with angles, the classification is given by a K-group of a noncommutative C* -algebra and it cannot be reduced to a commutative algebra if normal fiberings of faces of the considered manifold are nontrivial. Note that the proofs are based on noncommutative geometry (more exactly, the K-theory of C* -algebras) even in the case of stratified manifolds though the results are “classical.” In this paper, we provide a review of the abovementioned classification results for elliptic operators on manifolds with singularities and corresponding methods of noncommutative geometry (in particular, the localization principle in C* -algebras).  相似文献

We consider a class of nonlocal operators associated with an action of a compact Lie group G on a smooth closed manifold. Ellipticity condition and Fredholm property for elliptic operators are obtained. This class of operators is studied using pseudodifferential uniformization, which reduces the problem to a pseudodifferential operator acting in sections of infinite-dimensional bundles.  相似文献

We consider a class of elliptic inclusions under Dirichlet boundary conditions involving multifunctions of Clarke's generalized gradient. Under conditions given in terms of the first eigenvalue as well as the Fu?ik spectrum of the p ‐Laplacian we prove the existence of a positive, a negative and a sign‐changing solution. Our approach is based on variational methods for nonsmooth functionals (nonsmooth critical point theory, second deformation lemma), and comparison principles for multivalued elliptic problems. In particular, the existence of extremal constant‐sign solutions plays a key role in the proof of sign‐changing solutions (© 2010 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

We prove a general theorem on the behavior of the relative index under surgery for a wide class of Fredholm operators, including relative index theorems for elliptic operators due to Gromov--Lawson, Anghel, Teleman, Booß-Bavnbek–Wojciechowski, et al. as special cases. In conjunction with some additional conditions (like symmetry conditions), this theorem permits computing the analytical index of a given operator. In particular, we obtain new index formulas for elliptic pseudodifferential operators and quantized canonical transformations on manifolds with conical singularities.  相似文献

We investigate a free boundary value problem of the stationary Stokes' equations. In a previous paper adapted hydrodynamical potentials have been constructed and their jump relations have been discussed. Here we study a direct method to obtain an equivalent boundary integral equations' system of the first kind. Its solution properties are investigated in the framework of strongly elliptic pseudodifferential operators. For numerical purposes a suitable representation formula for the variational equation is given in terms of integro-differential operators which avoids the evaluation of hypersingular integrals.  相似文献

The aim of the paper is to establish a complete scale of isomorphismsfor elliptic pseudodifferential boundary value problems generatedby the operators of the Boutet de Monvel algebra. The resultis an extension of the corresponding known results on ellipticdifferential boundary value problems. Because for any ellipticpseudodifferential boundary value problem there exists a parametrixbelonging to the Boutet de Monvel algebra, the proof presentedis much shorter than the known proof for differential problems.Systems that are elliptic in the sense of Douglis and Nirenbergare also considered.  相似文献

The main objective is the study of a class of boundary value problems in weak formulation where two boundary conditions are given on the half-lines bordering the first quadrant that contain impedance data and oblique derivatives. The associated operators are reduced by matricial coupling relations to certain boundary pseudodifferential operators which can be analyzed in detail. Results are: Fredholm criteria, explicit construction of generalized inverses in Bessel potential spaces, eventually after normalization, and regularity results. Particular interest is devoted to the impedance problem and to the oblique derivative problem, as well.  相似文献

Abstract

We study the complex powers A z of an elliptic, strictly positive pseudodifferential operator A using an axiomatic method that combines the approaches of Guillemin and Seeley. In particular, we introduce a class of algebras, called “Guillemin algebras, ” whose definition was inspired by Guillemin [Guillemin, V. (1985). A new proof of Weyl's formula on the asymptotic distribution of eigenvalues. Adv. in Math. 55:131–160]. A Guillemin algebra can be thought of as an algebra of “abstract pseudodifferential operators.” Most algebras of pseudodifferential operators belong to this class. Several results typical for algebras of pseudodifferential operators (asymptotic completeness, construction of Sobolev spaces, boundedness between appropriate Sobolev spaces,…) generalize to Guillemin algebras. Most important, this class of algebras provides a convenient framework to obtain precise estimates at infinity for A z , when A > 0 is elliptic and defined on a non-compact manifold, provided that a suitable ideal of regularizing operators is specified (a submultiplicative Ψ*-algebra). We shall use these results in a forthcoming paper to study pseudodifferential operators and Sobolev spaces on manifolds with a Lie structure at infinity (a certain class of non-compact manifolds that has emerged from Melrose's work on geometric scattering theory [Melrose, R. B. (1995). Geometric Scattering Theory. Stanford Lectures. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press]).  相似文献

We construct the minimal and maximal extensions in L p (?n ), 1 < p < ∞, for M ‐elliptic pseudo‐differential operators initiated by Garello and Morando. We prove that they are equal and determine the domains of the minimal, and hence maximal, extensions of M ‐elliptic pseudo‐differential operators. For M ‐elliptic pseudodifferential operators with constant coefficients, the spectra and essential spectra are computed. An application to quantization is given. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. In this paper we introduce the notion of quasicylindrical domains in Banach spaces and develop a concept of a degree for quasiruled Fredholm mappings on quasicylindrical domains. Note that this quasicylindrical structure appears in a rather natural way, whenever “analytically” given nonlinear pseudodifferential operators are investigated in spaces of sufficiently smooth functions. Moreover, the class of quasiruled Fredholm mappings on quasicylindrical domains is sufficiently large, so that within this framework one can study a quite large class of nonlinear boundary value problems which are related to pseudodifferential operators.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to study a class of semilinear elliptic boundary value problems with degenerate boundary conditions which include as particular cases the Dirichlet problem and the Robin problem. The approach here is based on the super‐sub‐solution method in the degenerate case, and is distinguished by the extensive use of an Lp Schauder theory elaborated for second‐order, elliptic differential operators with discontinuous zero‐th order term. By using Schauder's fixed point theorem, we prove that the existence of an ordered pair of sub‐ and supersolutions of our problem implies the existence of a solution of the problem. The results extend an earlier theorem due to Kazdan and Warner to the degenerate case. © 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim  相似文献
