A discrete Tchebycheff problem is approximated by a sequence ofl p norm problems. This is an algorithm to be used if a large number of variables is involved as is the case in the approximation of a function of several variables by a polynomial. The complexity of this procedure is investigated and a lower bound for the number of steps to reach ε-optimality is established. An elementary proof of the (known) fact that each element of the Banach space w p (X) of weakly absolutelyp-summable sequences (if 1≤p<∞) in the Banach spaceX is the norm limit of its sections if and only if each element of w p (X) is a norm null sequence inX, is given. Little modification to this proof leads to a similar result for a family of Orlicz sequence spaces. This work concerns the derivation of formulae for updating quasi-Newton matrices used in algorithms for computing approximate minima of smooth unconstrained functions. The paper concentrates strictly on the techniques used to derive update formulae. It demonstrates a technique in which problems of finding matrices in ℝ n ×n of minimum Frobenius norm are converted to equivalent problems, using vector representations in ℝ n2 and ℝ n(n+1)/2 of these matrices, and then solvingl 2-minimization problems. These problems are more directly dealt with, and indeed, the paper demonstrates how this technique may be used to handle weighted sparse updates.  相似文献

We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the uniformly non-l n (1) property of Musielak-Orlicz sequence spacesl Φ generated by a sequence Φ=(ϕn:n⩾l) of finite Orlicz functions such that for eachn∈ℕ. As a result, forn 0⩾2, there exist spacesl Φ which are only uniformly non-l n (1) fornn 0. Moreover we obtain a characterization of uniformly non-l n (1) and reflexive Orlicz sequence spaces over a wide class of purely atomic measures and of uniformly non-l n (1) Nakano sequence spaces. We study the worst case setting for approximation of d variate functions from a general reproducing kernel Hilbert space with the error measured in the L norm. We mainly consider algorithms that use n arbitrary continuous linear functionals. We look for algorithms with the minimal worst case errors and for their rates of convergence as n goes to infinity. Algorithms using n function values will be analyzed in a forthcoming paper.We show that the L approximation problem in the worst case setting is related to the weighted L2 approximation problem in the average case setting with respect to a zero-mean Gaussian stochastic process whose covariance function is the same as the reproducing kernel of the Hilbert space. This relation enables us to find optimal algorithms and their rates of convergence for the weighted Korobov space with an arbitrary smoothness parameter α>1, and for the weighted Sobolev space whose reproducing kernel corresponds to the Wiener sheet measure. The optimal convergence rates are n-(α-1)/2 and n-1/2, respectively.We also study tractability of L approximation for the absolute and normalized error criteria, i.e., how the minimal worst case errors depend on the number of variables, d, especially when d is arbitrarily large. We provide necessary and sufficient conditions on tractability of L approximation in terms of tractability conditions of the weighted L2 approximation in the average case setting. In particular, tractability holds in weighted Korobov and Sobolev spaces only for weights tending sufficiently fast to zero and does not hold for the classical unweighted spaces.  相似文献

This paper considers the study of the regularity of the flow of a nonautonomous nonlinear control process when the set of control maps is endowed with theL p -topology. Roughly speaking, it is proved that, if the norm of the mapf(t, x, u) defining the process together with its first derivatives goes to infinity, with the norm ofu not faster thanu p ,p>1, then the flow isC 1 in theL p -topology. This property implies that, if the control maps are bounded, then the flow is differentiable in anyL p ,p>1. We state certain product formulae for Jackson integrals associated with irreducible reduced root systems. The Jackson integral is defined here as a sum over any full-rank sublattice of the coweight lattice for the root system. In particular, a Weyl group symmetry classification of the Jackson integrals is done when they have an expression of a product of the Jacobi elliptic theta functions. Most of the product formulae investigated by Aomoto, Macdonald and Gustafson appear in the list of classifications. A new product formula for an F 4 root system is included in it.  相似文献

We deal with the problem of obtaining closed formulas for the connection coefficients between orthogonal polynomials and the canonical sequence. We use a recurrence relation fulfilled by these coefficients and symbolic computation with the Mathematica language. We treat the cases of Gegenbauer, Jacobi and a new semi-classical sequence.  相似文献

There are many applications of fitting circular arcs to data. We have for example, system control, using a computer controlled cutting machine, approximating hulls of boats, drawing and image techniques. Out of these applications comes the least squares norm to be the most commonly used criterion. This paper examines how the l 1 norm is used which seems to be more appropriate than the use of least squares in the context of wild points in the data. An algorithm and different methods to determine the starting points are developed. However, numerical examples are given to help illustrate these methods.   相似文献

On the basis of the concept of the interval valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets introduced by K. Atanassov, the notion of interval valued intuitionistic fuzzy Hv-submodules of an Hv-module with respect to a t-norm T and an s-norm S is given and the characteristic properties are described. The homomorphic image and the inverse image are investigated. In particular, the connections between interval valued intuitionistic (S, T)-fuzzy Hv-submodules and interval valued intuitionistic (S, T)-fuzzy submodules are discussed.  相似文献

In 1974, Sen proved weak convergence of the empirical processes (in the J1-topology on Dp[0, 1]) for a stationary φ-mixing sequence of stochastic p( 1)-vectors. In this note, we show that Sen's theorem on weak convergence of the multidimensional empirical process for a stationary φ-mixing sequence of stochastic vectors remains true under a less restrictive condition on the mixing constants {φn}, i.e., φn = O(n−1−δ) for some δ > 0.  相似文献

In this paper, the H 2/H problem is considered in a transfer-function setting, i.e., without a priori chosen bounds on the controller order. An optimization procedure is described which is based on a parametrization of all feasible descending directions stemming from a given point of the feasible transfer-function set. A search direction at each such point can be obtained on the basis of the solution of a convex finite-dimensional problem which can be converted into a LMI problem. Moving along the chosen direction in each step, the procedure in question generates a sequence of feasible points whose cost functional values converge to the optimal value of the H 2/H problem. Moreover, this sequence of feasible points is shown to converge in the sense of a weighted H 2 norm; and it does so to the solution of the H 2/H problem whenever such a solution exists.  相似文献

This work is concerned with the proof of Lp -Lq decay estimates for solutions of the Cauchy problem for utt -λ2(t)b2(t)/Δu =0. The coefficient consists of an increasing smooth function λ and an oscillating smooth and bounded function b which are uniformly separated from zero. In this paper, (p,Y)-Bessel operator sequences, operator frames and (p,Y)-Riesz bases for a Banach space X are introduced and discussed as generalizations of the usual concepts for a Hilbert space and of the g-frames. It is proved that the set of all (p,Y)-Bessel operator sequences for a Banach space X is a Banach space and isometrically isomorphic to the operator space B(X,p(Y)). Some necessary and sufficient conditions for a sequence of operators to be a (p,Y)-Bessel operator sequence are given. Also, a characterization of an independent (p,Y)-operator frame for X is obtained. Lastly, it is shown that an independent (p,Y)-operator frame for X is just a (p,Y)-Riesz basis for X and has a unique dual (q,Y*)-operator frame for X*.  相似文献

Consider a right-invariant sub-Laplacian L on an exponential solvable Lie group G, endowed with a left-invariant Haar measure. Depending on the structure of G and possibly also that of L, L may admit differentiable Lp-functional calculi, or may be of holomorphic Lp-type for a given p≠2, as recent studies of specific classes of groups G and sub-Laplacians L have revealed. By “holomorphic Lp-type” we mean that every Lp-spectral multiplier for L is necessarily holomorphic in a complex neighborhood of some point in the L2-spectrum of L. This can only arise if the group algebra L1(G) is non-symmetric. In this article we prove that, for large classes of exponential groups, including all rank one AN-groups, a certain Lie algebraic condition, which characterizes the non-symmetry of L1(G) [37], also suffices for L to be of holomorphic L1-type. Moreover, if this condition, which was first introduced by J. Boidol [6] in a different context, holds for generic points in the dual * of the Lie algebra of G, then L is of holomorphic Lp-type for every p≠2. Besides the non-symmetry of L1(G), also the closedness of coadjoint orbits plays a crucial role. We also discuss an example of a higher rank AN-group. This example and our results in the rank one case suggest that sub-Laplacians on exponential Lie groups may be of holomorphic L1-type if and only if there exists a closed coadjoint orbit Ω * such that the points of Ω satisfy Boidol's condition. In the course of the proof of our main results, whose principal strategy is similar as in [8], we develop various tools which may be of independent interest and largely apply to more general Lie groups. Some of them are certainly known as “folklore” results. For instance, we study subelliptic estimates on representation spaces, the relation between spectral multipliers and unitary representations, and develop some “holomorphic” and “continuous” perturbation theory for images of sub-Laplacians under “smoothly varying” families of irreducible unitary representations.  相似文献

In this study a Shewhart type control chart namely the V t chart, is proposed for improved monitoring of the process variability of a quality characteristic of interest Y. The proposed control chart is based on the ratio type estimator of the variance using a single auxiliary variable X. It is assumed that (Y, X) follows a bivariate normal distribution. The design structure of the V t chart is developed for Phase-I quality control and its comparison is made with those of the S 2 chart (a well-known Shewhart control chart) and the V r chart (a Shewhart type control chart proposed by Riaz (Comput Stat, 2008a) used for the same purpose. It is observed that the proposed V t chart outperforms the S 2 and V r charts, in terms of discriminatory power, for detecting moderate to large shifts in the process variability. It is observed that the performance of the V t chart keeps improving with an increase in |ρ yx | , where ρ yx is the correlation between Y and X.  相似文献

The design of a robust mixed H 2/H controller for a class of uncertain neutral systems with discrete, distributed, and input time-varying delays is considered. More precisely, the proposed robust mixed H 2/H controller minimizes an upper bound of the H 2 performance measure, while guaranteeing an H norm bound constraint. Based on the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional theory, a delay-dependent criterion is derived for the existence of a desired mixed H 2/H controller, which can be constructed easily via feasible linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Furthermore, a convex optimization problem satisfying some LMI constraints is formulated to obtain a suboptimal robust mixed H 2/H controller achieving the minimization of an upper bound of the closed-loop H 2 performance measure. Let be the uniform triangulation generated by the usual three directional mesh of the plane and let H 1 be the regular hexagon formed by the six triangles of surrounding the origin. We study the space of piecewise polynomial functions in C k (R 2) with support H 1 having a sufficiently high degree n, which are invariant with respect to the group of symmetries of H 1 and whose sum of integer translates is constant. Such splines are called H 1-splines. We first compute the dimension of this space in function of n and k. Then we prove the existence of a unique H 1-spline of minimal degree for any fixed k0. Finally, we describe an algorithm computing the Bernstein–Bézier coefficients of this spline.  相似文献
