We report on laser-diode pumped low-threshold, and compact passively Q-switched Yb:YAG microchip lasers, with Cr4+:YAG crystals as the saturable absorbers. The laser threshold at the fundamental wavelength of 1.03 μm is as low as 0.25 W, and the slope efficiency is as high as 36.8%, and the optical-to-optical efficiency is as high as 27% for the 95% initial transmission of the Cr4+:YAG crystal. A pulse width of 1.35 ns and peak power of over 8.2 kW was obtained. Using a 5 mm thick KTP crystal as the second-harmonic generation medium, 514.7 nm green light of 155 mW power was generated. The pulse duration of 480 ps was generated at 1.03 μm by using 85% of the initial transmission of the Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber. Stable single-longitudinal-mode oscillation and wide-separated multi-longitudinal-mode oscillation due to the etalon effect of the Cr4+:YAG thin plate was achieved at different pump power levels. The character of a diode-pumped passively Q-switched Nd:GdVO4/V3+:YAG 912 nm laser was demonstrated for the first time to our knowledge. With an absorbed pump power of 7.4 W, an average output power of 360 mW with a Q-switched pulse width of 328 ns at a pulse repetition rate of 163 kHz was obtained. The Q-switching efficiency was found to be 32.7%. Our work further indicated V3+:YAG could be an effective fast passive Q-switch for 0.9 μm radiation.  相似文献

A compact diode-end-pumped passively Q-switched intra-cavity frequency doubled Nd:YAG/Cr4+:YAG composite crystal laser was demonstrated. The pulsed laser at 532 nm was produced and the dependence of the average out power, pulse width and pulse repetition rate on incident pump power were measured. Under the pump power of 14 W, the minimum pulse width of 3.5 ns with repetition rate of 27.5 kHz was obtained, corresponding single-pulse energy of 18 μJ and peak power of 5.3 kW.  相似文献

Q-switched microchip laser emitting radiation at eye-safe wavelength 1444 nm was designed and realized. This laser was based on composite crystal which consists of 4 mm long Nd:YAG active medium diffusion bonded with 1 mm long V:YAG saturable absorber. The diameter of the composite crystal was 5 mm. The initial transmission of the V:YAG part was T 0 = 94% @ 1440 nm. The microchip resonator consists of dielectric mirrors, directly deposited onto the composite crystal surfaces. These mirrors were specially designed to ensure desired emission at 1444 nm and to prevent parasitic lasing at other Nd3+ transmissions. The output coupler with reflectivity 94% for the generated wavelength 1444 nm was placed on the V3+-doped part. The laser was operating under pulsed pumping for the duty-cycle up to 50%. With increasing value of mean pumping power a strong decrease of generated pulse length was observed. The shortest generated pulses were 4.2 ns long (FWHM). Stable pulses with energy 34 μJ were generated with repetition rate up to 1.5 kHz. Corresponding pulse peak power was 8.2 kW. The wavelength of linearly polarized TEM00 laser mode was fixed to 1444 nm.  相似文献

This paper reported a broadband tuning intracavity optical parametric oscillator (IOPO), based on the multiple grating periodical poled lithium niobate (PPLN) pumped by a acoustic-optical (AO) Q-switched Nd:YVO4 laser. The widely tunable OPO output signal wavelength range from 1390 to 1605 nm, which was obtained by changing PPLN poling period from 27.8 to 31.6 μm at a certain temperature of 46°C, while the continuous tuning range was measured from 1475 to 1592 nm with the PPLN poling period of 30 μm by varying the temperature of nonlinear crystal PPLN from 50 to 120°C. The maximum output power of 0.92 W at 1534 nm with the minimum pulse width of 5.17 ns was generated under the incident pump power of 9.6 W at 808 nm. The corresponding peak power and single pulse energy were calculated to be 5.94 kW and 30.7 μJ, respectively. The M 2-factor was measured to be 2.01 at the signal power of 0.4 W.  相似文献

A passively Q-switched 1.06 μm laser with Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber by direct 879 nm diode pumping grown-together composite GdVO4/Nd:GdVO4 crystal to the emitting level was demonstrated in this paper. The characteristics of pulsed laser were investigated by using two kinds of Cr4+:YAG crystal with the initial transmissivity of 80 and 90%, respectively. When the T 0 = 90% Cr4+:YAG was used, an average output power of 1.59 W was achieved at an incident pump power of 10 W. The pulse width and repetition rate were 64.5 ns and 170 kHz, respectively. The thermal lens effect of laser crystal was analyzed.  相似文献

Output performances of passively Q-switched, composite Nd:YAG/Cr4+:YAG lasers that consisted of bonded, all-poly-crystalline ceramics Nd:YAG and Cr4+:YAG are reported. Laser pulses at 1.06 μm with 2.5-mJ energy and 1.9-MW peak power are obtained from a 1.1-at % Nd:YAG/Cr4+:YAG ceramics that was quasi-continuous-wave (quasi-CW) pumped with a diode laser. Single-pass frequency doubling with LiB3O5 (LBO) nonlinear crystal at room temperature yielded green laser pulses at 532 nm of 0.36-mJ energy and 0.3-MW peak power, with a conversion efficiency of 0.27.  相似文献

We present a period-continuously-tunable optical parametric oscillator based on a fan-out MgO:PPLN with a grating period range from 26.9 to 29.5 μm. The OPO was pumped by a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser with a repetition of 10 kHz. With a grating period of 29.3 μm and 22.0 W pump power, the idler output power at 3.78 μm arrived at 3.40 W. With a period of 27.1 μm and 13.5 W pump, the idler output at 4.58 μm arrived at 0.36 W. This is, to our best knowledge, the highest average power for pulsed OPO operating near 4.5 μm based on PPLN or MgO:PPLN. By translating the fan-out MgO:PPLN, the idler wavelength was tuned continuously from 3.78 to 4.62 μm.  相似文献

By using both V3+:YAG and Co:LMA saturable absorbers, an xenon-lamp-pumped doubly passively Q-switched and mode-locked (QML) Nd:YAG laser at 1.3 μm in a straight cavity is realized for the first time. The modulation depth of QML pulse has nearly reached 100%. The experimental results shows that the doubly passively Q-switched and mode-locked (QML) laser can generate shorter Q-switch envelope pulse with higher average peak power in comparison to the singly passively QML laser with V3+:YAG or Co:LMA saturable absorber.  相似文献

Passively Q-switched laser oscillation at 1060 nm from an unprocessed Nd:LaB3O6 cleavage microchip with a Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber has been demonstrated. The influence of absorbed pump power, output coupler transmission and cavity length on the output pulse characteristics has been investigated. For a plano-concave cavity with a cavity length of 28 mm, pulse with 100 mW average output power, 4.0 μJ energy, 17 ns duration, 25 kHz repetition rate, and 0.24 kW, peak power was obtained at the absorbed pump power of 1.42 W and output coupler transmission of 3.5%. For a plano-plano cavity with a cavity length of 5 mm, pulse with 85 mW average output power, 2.1 μJ energy, 2.3 ns duration, 40 kHz repetition rate, and 0.89 kW, peak power was obtained at the absorbed pump power of 1.42 W and output coupler transmission of 5.6%. Because a chopper with a 5% duty cycle was employed in the experiments to reduce the influence of pump-induced thermal loading, the above average output powers were obtained at the 5% duty cycle and extrapolated to 100%.PACS 42.55.Rz; 42.60.Gd; 42.70.Hj  相似文献

Passively Q-switched green output with Cr4+:YAG as saturable absorber and PPMgLN as the frequency doubling crystal was realized in a compact diode end-pumped Nd:YVO4 laser. The green light output power, pulse width, pulse repetition rate, pulse energy and peak power with three Cr4+:YAG of different initial transmissions were investigated. The maximum average output power was 1.2 W at the pump power of 4.0 W and the maximum conversion efficiency was 30% with the Cr4+:YAG of 90% initial transmission. The maximum pulse energy and minimum pulse width were 10.9 μJ and 12 ns with the Cr4+:YAG of 75% initial transmission.  相似文献

This paper reports the operation of a Cr4+:YAG Q-switched CW diode laser pumped Nd:YAG at 1064nm. The laser performances resulted in 167 μ J, 21ns pulses at 10kHz, and 1.67W power output. When intracavity polarized, stable amplitude (fluctuations <±1%), TEM00, 153 μ J pulses were generated allowing 50% SHG in KTP. This revised version was published online in November 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

A widely continuous tunable eye-safe laser based on periodical poling lithium niobate (PPLN) crystal, driven by a diode-end-pimped acoustic-optical (AO) Q-switcher Nd:YVO4 laser was demonstrated. Under the pumped power of 7.74 W at 808 nm and the frequency repetition rate of 45 kHz, the maximum output power of 0.58 W at 1534 nm with the minimum pulse duration of 7.53 ns was obtained. The corresponding peak power and single pulse energy were calculated to be up to 1.71 kW and 12.9 μJ, respectively. By changing 20 different channels with poling period between 27.8 to 31.6 μm, we measured widely continuously tunable wavelength coverage from 1390 to 1605 nm.  相似文献

We design an efficient passively Q-switched laser using a composite YAG/Yb:YAG crystal as the laser gain medium and a Cr4+:YAG crystal as a saturable absorber. We obtain an average output power of 1.81 W in 1030 nm laser at an absorbed pump power of 4.8 W, corresponding to an optical-to-optical efficiency of 37.7% and a slope efficiency of 47.3%. The pulsed laser has a repetition rate of about 28.6 kHz and a pulse width of 15.8 ns, with the highest peak power of 4 kW. In addition, using a LBO as the intracavity frequency doubler, we obtain a maximum power of 246 mW in 515 nm pulsed laser at an absorbed pump power of 3.8 W.  相似文献

We have developed a gain-switched room-temperature Cr:forsterite laser operating at repetition rates of between 1 and 34 kHz, and pumped by a continuous wave, Q-switched Nd:YAG laser. With optimised output coupling, an output pulse energy of 52 μJ was measured at 1.5 kHz repetition rate, corresponding to 11% efficiency and 13% slope efficiency. Threshold pulse energy was 53 μJ. Output power of 370 mW was obtained at 10 kHz repetition rate and 4.4 W pump power. Water cooling was not required for repetition rates up to 10 kHz. In a tunable, folded resonator, the Cr:forsterite wavelength tuned between 1173 and 1338 nm. This laser operated with maximum pulse energy of 34 μJ, efficiency of 13%, and power of 307 mW. The laser output was close to diffraction-limited with M2 of 1.2. Received: 6 January 1999 / Published online: 29 July 1999  相似文献

We report the generation of tunable high-repetition-rate optical pulses in the mid-infrared using synchronously pumped parametric oscillation in periodically poled LiNbO3 (PPLN). Using a Kerr-lens-mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser as the pump source and a PPLN crystal incorporating grating periods of 21.0–22.4 μm, we have achieved wavelength conversion in the -–4 6μm spectral range in the mid-infrared. The use of a semi-monolithic cavity design and hemispherical focusing has permitted pulse generation in the strong idler absorption region of PPLN, resulting in a simple, compact, all-solid-state configuration with a pump power threshold as low as 17 mW and mid-infrared idler powers of up to 64 mW at 9% extraction efficiency. Signal output powers of up to 280 mW at 35% extraction efficiency are available over the -–1.004 1.140μm spectral range at 80.5 MHz and pulse repetition rates at harmonics of the fundamental frequency up to 322 MHz have also been obtained.
