A parameter study of electromagnetic wave propagating through the air-chiro ferrite inter face and through a chiro ferrite slab is presented, and such bianisotropic medium can be made from chiral and gyrotropic ferrite materials artifically. The partial differential equations of the fourth order defining the field components Ey and Hy in chiroferrite are derived. The influence of different constitutive parameters on the transmission coefficients and refraction angles of transmitted fields are demonstrated. The results show that chirality causes strong effect of energy conversion between mode 1 and 2.  相似文献

The electromagnetic wave fields generated by arbitrary electric and equivalent magnetic current distributions are expressed by means of a Maxwell operator in anisotropic, gyrotropic or bianisotropic media. Provided that the constitutive tensorK(r), (which relates the wave-field vectorsD andB toE andH), has in each case the appropriate symmetry in its spatial variation, Lorentz-type reciprocity relations are obtained connecting the given current distributions and their wave fields with a transformed (reflected) set of current distributions and their fields. Reflections are with respect to a plane, a line or a point, depending on the symmetry structure of the constitutive tensor. Modified Lorentz reciprocity appears as a special case of the reflection transformations. A related set of reflection transformations yields equivalence (rather than reciprocity) relationships, in which mirrored current distributions generate mirrored wave fields. Various applications are discussed.  相似文献

In this paper, the properties of extraordinary mode for two types of three-dimensional magnetized plasma photonic crystals (3D MPPCs) composed of homogeneous dielectric and magnetized plasma with diamond lattices are theoretically investigated for electromagnetic (EM) wave based on a modified plane wave expansion (PWE) method, as Voigt effects are considered. As EM wave propagates in such 3D MPPCs, the EM wave can be divided in two modes due to the influence of Lorentz force. One is named extraordinary mode and another is ordinary mode. The equations for calculating the dispersive relationships for extraordinary mode as propagating through two types of structures (dielectric spheres immersed in magnetized plasma background or vice versa), are theoretically deduced. The influences of dielectric constant of dielectric, plasma collision frequency, filling factor, the external magnetic field and plasma frequency on the properties of extraordinary mode for both types of MPPCs are investigated in detail, respectively, and some corresponding physical explanations are also given. From the numerical results, it has been shown that not only the locations but also bandwidths and relative bandwidths of the photonic band gaps obtained by extraordinary mode for both types of 3D MPPCs can be manipulated by plasma frequency, filling factor, the external magnetic field and the relative dielectric constant of dielectric, respectively. However, the plasma collision frequency has no effect on the frequency ranges and relative bandwidths of PBGs for two types of 3D MPPCs. The locations of flatbands regions cannot be tuned by any parameters except for plasma frequency and the external magnetic field.  相似文献

Plane wave propagation in chiral plasma and chiral ferrite media is studied in kDB coordinate system. General wave equations and characteristic equations of plane waves propagating along an arbitrary direction in chiral plasma and in chiral ferrites are derived in simple formulations respectively. Four wavenumbers and their corresponding dispersion characteristics are resulted for propagation both along and normal to the biasing magnetic field. When plane wave with negative helicity propagates along the biasing magnetic field in chiral ferrites, backward waves emerge. However backward waves occur with both positive and negative helicities when propagating along the biasing magnetic field in chiral plasma.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A new dispersion relation, with finite Larmor orbit effects, for oblique propagating electromagnetic ion cyclotron (EMIC) waves in a magnetized plasma medium, is derived including the magnetic shear effect. The approximate, yet accurate, dispersion relation is used to implement the ray tracing model. A parabolic magnetic field is considered to model the geomagnetic field in the magnetosphere. Energetic protons are also considered as resonant particles. The propagation characteristics of EMIC waves in the vicinity of the ion cyclotron resonances are investigated in some detail. The results reveal adiabatic oscillating motion for wave and magnetic field fluctuations where high harmonics limit the wave damping and confines the magnetic fluctuations. For inward propagating EMIC waves we find (1) turning points which depend on the wave launch position, and (2) wave trapped areas playing a role in quasi-coherent wave-particle interaction in agreement with the observational and theoretical studies. This wave trapping is an effective process for particle acceleration in the context of space plasmas.

The electrodynamics and dispersion properties of a magnetized dusty plasma containing elongated and rotating charged dust grains are examined. Starting from an appropriate Lagrangian for dust grains, a kinetic equation for the dust grain and the corresponding equations of motion are derived. Expressions for the dust charge and dust current densities are obtained with the finite size (the dipole moment) of elongated and rotating dust grains taken into account. These charge and current densities are combined with the Maxwell-Vlasov system of equations to derive dispersion relations for the electromagnetic and electrostatic waves in a dusty magnetoplasma. The dispersion relations are analyzed to demonstrate that the dust grain rotation introduces new classes of instabilities involving various low-frequency waves in a dusty magnetoplasma. Examples of various unstable low-frequency waves include the electron whistler, the dust whistler, dust cyclotron waves, AlfvÉn waves, electromagnetic ion-cyclotron waves, as well as lower-hybrid, electrostatic ion cyclotron, modified dust ion-acoustic waves, etc. Also found is a new type of unstable waves whose frequency is close to the dust grain rotation frequency. The present results should be useful in understanding the properties of low-frequency waves in cosmic and laboratory plasmas that are embedded in an external magnetic field and contain elongated and rotating charged dust grains.  相似文献

In this paper, a novel finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method with recursive relationships among operators is developed for magnetized dispersive medium, named as the shift operator FDTD(SO-FDTD). The dielectric property of magnetized dispersive medium is written as rational polynomial function, the relationship between D and E is deduced in time-domain. And its high accuracy and efficiency are verified by calculating the reflection and transmission coefficients of electromagnetic waves through a collision plasma slab.  相似文献

A novel circular polarized optical heterodyne interferometer using a Zeeman laser to measure optical rotation both in nonscattered and scattered chiral medium is proposed. A pair of correlated orthogonal circular polarized light waves of different temporal frequency propagating in the chiral medium at different speed is studied. This results in phase retardation between circular polarized light waves of which the phase difference is proportional to the optical rotation angle of a linear polarized light in a chiral medium. In the mean time, two orthogonal circular polarized light waves can be treated as a circular polarized photon pair that is able to reduce the scattering effect in a scattered chiral medium. Then the optical rotation angle can be measured in the scattering medium. In addition, a common-path configuration with respect to circular polarized light waves immune the background noise. This further improves the sensitivity on optical rotation measurement based on phase difference detection.  相似文献

Properties of several plasma waves in a wavenumber space are investigated in a hot magnetized plasma. The properties are applied to investigate ray trajectories of radiated electromagnetic waves to an inhomogeneous plasma and mode conversion of the extraordinary mode into electrostatic cyclotron harmonic waves at the upper hybrid frequency layer. The wave fronts of the mode-converted cyclotron harmonie wave from the extraordinary wave are made clear. Furthermore, ray trajectories of radiated cyclotron harmonic waves and the mode-converted extraordinary mode are obtained.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The propagation of magnetoacoustic (fast magnetohydrodynamic) waves in pair-ion (PI) fullerene plasma is studied in the linear and nonlinear regimes. The pair-ion (PI) fullerene plasma is theorized as homogeneous, magnetized, warm and collisionless. Employing multi-fluid magnetohydrodynamic model, the dispersion relation is obtained and wave dispersion effects which appear through ion inertial length are discussed. Using reductive perturbation technique (RPT), the Korteweg–de Vries (KdV) equation is derived and its solution for small but finite amplitude magnetoacoustic solitons propagating in the direction perpendicular to the external magnetic field is presented. The compressive magnetoacoustic soliton (i.e. positive potential pulse) propagating with super Alfvénic speed is obtained in magnetized PI fullerene plasma. The variations in the amplitude and width of the magnetoacoustic soliton structures are also illustrated by using numerical values of the plasma parameters such as ions' density, temperature difference between fullerene ions and magnetic field intensity, which have been taken from the PI plasma experiments already published in the literature.  相似文献

Dispersion equations for the ordinary and extraordinary cyclotron waves propagating perpendicular to the magnetic field in metals in the critical region where the wavelength is comparable to the electron Larmor radius are derived as an infinite but rapidly converging power series expansion in δ( = Ω/Ω-M). Numerical studies for the cyclotron wave propagation near the first seven resonances are carried out. The non-local behaviour of those waves in the critical region 01 ⩽ kR ⩽ 3-0 is studied. For the ordinary waves the first few resonances show significant dispersion than those near higher resonances which are dispersion-free. Only one extraordinary wave propagates near the fundamental cyclotron frequency. For the higher resonances, two modes propagate near each of the resonant frequencies, of which one mode remains constant for all values ofkR whereas the second mode shows significant dispersion. But beyond the fifth resonance both the modes are dispersion free.  相似文献

Obliquely propagating altra-low-frequency dust-electromagnetic waves in a self-gravitating, warm, magnetized, two fluid dusty plasma system have been investigated. Two special cases, namely, dust-Alfvén mode propagating parallel to the external magnetic field and dustmagnetosonic mode propagating perpendicular to the external magnetic field have also been considered. It has been shown that effects of self-gravitational field, dust fluid temperature, and obliqueness significantly modify the dispersion properties of these ultra-low-frequency dust-electromagnetic modes. It is also found that in parallel propagating dust-Alfvén mode these effects play no role, but in obliquely propagating dust-Alfvén mode or perpendicular propagating dust-magnetosonic mode the effect of self-gravitational field plays destabilizing role whereas the effect of dust/ion fluid temperature plays stabilizing role.  相似文献

The polarization characteristics of oblique incidence electromagnetic waves in magnetized cold plasma layer are studied using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method based on the trapezoidal recursive convolution (TRC) technology. The TRC-FDTD formulations are derived in detail and are confirmed by computing the reflection and transmission coefficients for the elliptically polarized wave through a magnetized cold plasma slab with arbitrary magnetic direction. Particularly, when the propagation direction of the EM wave is parallel to the magnetic direction, the right-circular-polarized and left-circular-polarized wave should be considered. When the propagation direction of the EM wave is perpendicular to the magnetic direction, the ordinary polarized wave and extraordinary polarized wave should be considered.  相似文献

The linear and nonlinear properties of dust-electron acoustic waves (DEAWs) propagating in magnetized, collisionless, dusty plasma system containing inertial cold electrons, Maxwellian hot electrons, nonthermal ions, and arbitrarily (positively or negatively) charged stationary dust are investigated. The reductive perturbation technique is employed to reduce the basic set of fluid equations to the modified Korteweg-de Vries equation or Ostrovsky's equation, which governs the dynamics of small amplitude DEAWs in a weakly magnetized dusty nonthermal plasma. The approximate analytical as well as numerical solutions reveal that the basic characteristics of DEA nonlinear structures are found to be significantly modified by the key plasma configuration parameters. It is found that the leading compressive or rarefactive solitary wave structure separates from a trailing wave packet during a considerable time under the influence of magnetic field-induced Lorentz force.  相似文献

To describe the nonlinear interactions of a magneto-hydrodynamic wave with its second harmonic propagating in a planar waveguide filled with cold magnetized plasma, coupled mode equations have been derived. Solution of these equations shows the possibility of energy transfer between the fundamental and the second harmonic.  相似文献

The 3 + 1 GRMHD equations for Schwarzschild spacetime in Rindler coordinates with isothermal state of plasma are formulated. We consider the cases of non-rotating and rotating backgrounds with non-magnetized and magnetized plasmas. For these cases, the perturbed form of these equations are linearized and Fourier analyzed by introducing plane wave type solutions. The determinant of these equations in each case leads to two dispersion relations which give value of the wave number k. Using the wave number, we obtain information like phase and group velocities etc. which help to discuss the nature of the waves and their characteristics. These provide interesting information about the black hole magnetosphere near the horizon. There are cases of normal and anomalous dispersion. We find a case of normal dispersion of waves when the plasma admits the properties of Veselago medium. Our results agree with those of Mackay et al. according to which rotation of a black hole is required for negative phase velocity propagation.  相似文献

The nonlinear dispersion relation for an electromagnetic wave propagating through a cold, homogeneous magnetized rotating plasma is derived to investigate certain nonlinear effect for the case where only the Coriolis force part of the consequences of rotation is taken into account. Characteristics of variation of refractive indices with variation of the wave amplitude and rotational frequency are discussed. It is shown that the nonlinear effects considerably influence the propagation of waves in rotating plasmas  相似文献

We investigate the general relativistic magnetohydrodynamic (GRMHD) equations for cold plasma around the Reissner-Nordström black hole. Applying 3+1 spacetime split we linearize the perturbed equations for non-magnetized/magnetized plasma in both rotating and non-rotating background. By Fourier analyze we then derive dispersion relations and investigate the existence of waves with positive angular frequency in the vicinity of the black hole horizon. The analysis finds propagation of negative phase and group velocities for rotating magnetized surroundings.  相似文献
