The Bean critical state model is used to calculate voltages and voltage waveforms in hard superconductors carrying ac and dc transport currents. A comparison with the experiment shows that these characteristics are accurately described by this model. The voltage rectification effect by current-carrying superconductors is explained. Zh. Tekh. Hall effect measurements conventionally rely on the use of dc magnetic fields. For electronic devices made of ultrathin semiconducting materials, such as molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), the dc Hall effect measurements have practical difficulties. Here, we report the results of the Hall effect measurements using ac magnetic fields and a lock-in detection of the Hall voltage for field effect transistors with ultrathin MoS2 channels. The ac Hall effect measurements have some advantages over the dc measurements. The carrier concentration and the Hall mobility were estimated as a function of gate voltage from the results of the ac Hall effect measurements. They used a magnetic field strength that was lower by two orders of magnitude than those used in prior studies on MoS2 devices, which relied on dc magnetic fields.  相似文献

The pseudo-spin model for a double layer quantum Hall system with the total landau level filling factor ν=1 is discussed. In contrast to the “traditional” model where the interlayer voltage enters as a static magnetic field along pseudo-spin hard axis, taking into account the realistic experimental situation, in our model we interpret the influence of applied voltage as a source of additional relaxation process in the double layer system. We show that the Landau-Lifshitz equation for the considered pseudo-magnetic system well describes existing experimental data and reduces to the dc driven and damped sine-Gordon equation. As a result, the mentioned model predicts novel directed intra-layer transport phenomenon in the system. In particular, unidirectional intra-layer energy transport can be realized due to the motion of topological kinks induced by applied voltage. Experimentally this should be manifested as counter-propagating intra-layer inhomogeneous charge currents proportional to the interlayer voltage and total topological charge of the pseudo-spin system.  相似文献

Superconducting metamaterials comprising rf Superconducting QUantum Interference Devices (SQUIDs) have been recently realized and investigated with respect to their tuneability, permeability, and dynamic multistability properties. These properties are a consequence of intrinsic nonlinearities due to the sensitivity of the superconducting state to external stimuli. SQUIDs, made of a superconducting ring interrupted by a Josephson junction, possess yet another source of nonlinearity, which makes them widely tuneable with an applied dc dlux. A model SQUID metamaterial, based on electric equivalent circuits, is used in the weak coupling approximation to demonstrate the dc flux tuneability, dynamic multistability, and nonlinear transmission in SQUID metamaterials comprising non-hysteretic SQUIDs. The model equations reproduce the experimentally observed tuneability patterns and predict tuneability with the power of an applied ac magnetic field. Moreover, the results indicate the opening of nonlinear frequency bands for energy transmission through SQUID metamaterials, for sufficiently strong ac fields.  相似文献

Phase transitions in ferromagnets described by the Ising model are investigated in terms of the solution of a hierarchy of microscopic equations for unary and binary distribution functions. A dynamical procedure for making the equations self-consistent is developed. For cubic crystals, an equation of state relating the long-range order parameter to temperature and magnetic field is obtained in analytic form. The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility and of the specific heat are calculated. A stability criterion is obtained for the stationary states of the system is obtained. The features of simultaneous motion of two identical drops of magnetic liquid, which are determined by their hydrodynamic and magnetic interaction, are considered. The changes in the trajectories of drops initially moving in the same direction, caused by a variation of direction and magnitude of the applied dc and ac magnetic field, are studied experimentally and substantiated theoretically. The possibility of effective control of the motion of magnetic liquid drops by applying magnetic fields is demonstrated.  相似文献

The nonlinear ac stationary response of the magnetization of noninteracting uniaxial single-domain ferromagnetic particles acted on by superimposed dc and ac magnetic fields applied along the anisotropy axis is evaluated from the Fokker-Planck equation, expressed as an infinite hierarchy of recurrence equations for Fourier components of the relaxation functions governing longitudinal relaxation of the magnetization. The exact solution of this hierarchy comprises a matrix continued fraction, allowing one to evaluate the ac nonlinear response and reversal time of the magnetization. For weak ac fields, the results agree with perturbation theory. It is shown that the dc bias field changes substantially the magnetization dynamics leading to new nonlinear effects. In particular, it is demonstrated that for a nonzero bias field as the magnitude of the ac field increases the reversal time first increases and having attained its maximum at some critical value of the ac field, decreases exponentially.  相似文献

A contact-free method to obtain the current-voltage characteristics (CVC) of hard superconductors by measuring the relaxation of the magnetization in a perpendicular magnetic field is developed. The relaxation curves obtained for melt-textured YBCO samples are well fitted by curves calculated within the electrodynamic model using a power-law CVC. This procedure uses only two fitting parameters, namely, the critical sheet current Jc and the exponent m of the power-law CVC.  相似文献

We study quantum spin-rotation effects for a single-molecule magnet bridged between two conducting leads in the ac and dc magnetic fields. The Landau-Zener dynamics induced by the magnetic field generates mechanical torque, making the molecule to oscillate. This mechanical motion of the molecule exhibits unique features that can be detected by measuring the electronic tunneling current through the molecule.  相似文献

We study the transport of vortices excited by an ac current in an Al film with an array of nanoengineered asymmetric antidots. The vortex response to the ac current is investigated by detailed measurements of the voltage output as a function of ac current amplitude, magnetic field, and temperature. The measurements revealed pronounced voltage rectification effects which are mainly characterized by the two critical depinning forces of the asymmetric potential. The shape of the net dc voltage as a function of the excitation amplitude indicates that our vortex ratchet behaves in a way very different from standard overdamped models. Rather, the repinning force, necessary to stop vortex motion, is considerably smaller than the depinning force, resembling the behavior of the so-called inertia ratchets. Calculations based on an underdamped ratchet model provide a very good fit to the experimental data.  相似文献

The drift–diffusion model of a Penning discharge in molecular hydrogen under pressures of about 1 Torr with regard to the external electric circuit has been proposed. A two-dimensional axially symmetric discharge geometry with a cylindrical anode and flat cathodes perpendicular to the symmetry axis has been investigated. An external magnetic field of about 0.1 T is applied in the axial direction. Using the developed drift–diffusion model, the electrodynamic structure of a Penning discharge in the pressure range of 0.5–5 Torr at a current source voltage of 200–500 V is numerically simulated. The evolution of the discharge electrodynamic structure upon pressure variations in zero magnetic field (the classical glow discharge mode) and in the axial magnetic field (Penning discharge) has been studied using numerical experiments. The theoretical predictions of the existence of an averaged electron and ion motion in a Penning discharge both in the axial and radial directions and in the azimuthal direction have been confirmed by the calculations.  相似文献

The long-standing resolution of the Abraham–Minkowski electromagnetic momentum controversy is predicated on a decomposition of the total momentum of a closed continuum electrodynamic system into separate field and matter components. Using a microscopic model of a simple linear dielectric, we derive Lagrangian equations of motion for the electric dipoles and show that the dielectric can be treated as a collection of stationary simple harmonic oscillators that are driven by the electric field and produce a polarization field in response. The macroscopic energy and momentum are defined in terms of the electric, magnetic, and polarization fields that travel through the dielectric together as a pulse of electromagnetic radiation. We conclude that both the macroscopic total energy and the macroscopic total momentum are entirely electromagnetic in nature for a simple linear dielectric in the absence of significant reflections.  相似文献

Pinning properties in 100 nm thick continuous and porous superconducting Nb films are examined by ac susceptibility and dc magnetization measurements. The Nb film was deposited on a smooth Si substrate, while the porous film, NbP, was deposited on an anodized Al oxide substrate. Pores or “antidots” 40 nm in diameter, 100 nm apart, form a triangular array. The porous film presents commensurate or matching field effects for applied magnetic fields where the magnetic flux threading each unit cell is an integer number of the flux quantum, where ac shielding capability and dc diamagnetic magnetization show an abrupt increase. The response to ac fields as a function of temperature and dc field provided a way to determine that NbP sample has higher pinning than the continuous one, and that TC suppression due to fluxoid quantization is not relevant for the investigated temperature range.  相似文献

We examine theoretically the generation of electromagnetic radiation in the relative motion of vortex lattices in magnetically coupled films in the dc transformer geometry. We establish the conditions under which the force of mutual pinning of the vortex lattices varies according to a harmonic law as a function of the relative displacement of the vortices in the films within a given range of magnetic field inductions. In this case the equation describing the viscous flow of vortex lattices in magnetically coupled films is the same as the equation of the resistively shunted Josephson junction model. We show that magnetically coupled superconductors exhibit the properties of a Josephson element without any restrictions on the geometrical size of such a system imposed by the coherence length ξ. The frequency f of the electromagnetic radiation generated by the relative motion of vortex lattices in magnetically coupled superconductors depends on the spatial period of the vortex lattices and the velocity of relative vortex motion, which means that the frequency of the radiation can be tuned by applying a magnetic field or a current. We have thoroughly investigated the entire magnetic states of under-doped ferromagnetic-insulating manganite Nd0.8Sr0.2MnO3 through temperature-dependent linear and non-linear complex ac magnetic susceptibility measurements. This ferromagnetic-insulating manganite is found to have frequency-independent ferromagnetic to paramagnetic transition temperature at around 140 K. At around 90 K (≈T?) the sample shows a second frequency-dependent re-entrant magnetic transition as explored through complex ac susceptibility measurements. Non-linear ac susceptibility measurements (higher harmonics of ac susceptibility) have also been performed (with and without the superposition of a dc magnetic field) to further investigate the origin of this frequency dependence (dynamic behavior at this re-entrant magnetic transition). Divergence of 3rd harmonic of ac susceptibility in the limit of zero exciting field indicates a spin-glass-like freezing phenomena. However, large value of spin-relaxation time (τ0=10−8 s) and small value of coercivity (∼22 Oe) obtained at low temperature (below T?) from critical slowing down model and dc magnetic measurements, respectively, are in contrast with what generally observed in a canonical spin glass (τ0=10−12-10−14 s and very large value of coercivity below freezing temperature). We have attributed our observation to the formation of finite size ferromagnetic clusters which are formed as consequence of intrinsic phase separation and undergo cluster glass-like freezing below certain temperature in this under-doped manganite. The results are supported by the electronic- and magneto-transport data.  相似文献

Measurements of the imaginary part of the ac magnetic susceptibility of single crystals and melt-textured samples of YBa2Cu3Ox (YBCO) at T=77 K in a magnetic field ranging between 1 and 20 kOe are reported. If the dc magnetic field H dc is rotated in the ab plane of the sample, the magnetic susceptibility and critical current density j c have peaks corresponding to the magnetic field aligned with twin boundaries. Peaks in the curve of j c versus magnetic field are observed at angles corresponding to these peaks, where AH dc in a wide range of magnetic fields. The results have been interpreted in terms of the theory describing twin boundaries as a system of quasi-planar pinning sites. The pinning is strong if the elastic displacements of flux lines are of the order of the vortex lattice constant d f. These displacements decrease with the magnetic field because of the decrease in d f, and the contribution of the elastic energy to the Gibbs potential is reduced accordingly, which is the cause of the peak effect. The Brownian motion of an ensemble of charged particles in a quantizing magnetic field is considered in a simple quasi-classical model. The model describes random jumps between the Landau levels—corresponding to the quantized motion perpendicular to the magnetic field, and markovian fluctuations in momentum space—corresponding to the classical motion parallel to the field. A random walk dynamics is adopted for the former while an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process is considered for the latter. The resulting Fokker-Planck equations constitute a semi-quantum stochastic process. The equations are solved and several physical aspects of the underlying system are discussed.  相似文献

A method is proposed to measure the screening efficiency of an ac magnetic field by superconducting films with the use of a strip line as an ac magnetic field source capable of operating within a broad frequency range. The dependence of the efficiency of ac magnetic field screening by YBCO films and single-crystal BiSrCaCuO on temperature and the frequency of magnetic field oriented perpendicular to the sample plane has been studied in the 104–109-Hz range. The amplitude-dependent ac susceptibility of high-temperature superconductors is shown to obey some empirical scaling relations. We try to analyze this behavior by extending a dc nonlinear response function of mixed state to the ac cases. The derived equations for critical current and ac susceptibility ξ(T) agree with the scaling relations of experimental data.  相似文献
