Charged particle multiplicity distributions in pp collisions at 400GeV/c have been studied by using the LEBC films which were offered by CERN NA27 Collaboration.
The corrections to the raw data are described. The results are compared with data at other energies. It is shown that the charged particle multiplicity distribution for the nonsingle diffractive process has KNO scaling behavior, whereas for the inelastic process shows a deviation from KNO scaling up to ISR energy.  相似文献

Recently the CMS Collaboration at the LHC reported “the first direct limit on black hole production at a particle accelerator” using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35 pb−1 of pp collision at a center of mass energy of 7 TeV (Khachatryan et al., 2011) [1]. Even though the result has a strong impact on future searches, the interpretation lacks enough theoretical support. In this Letter, we show that the parameter range which was considered by the CMS Collaboration is actually out of the validity range of semi-classical black hole picture so that the Monte Carlo simulation result which was crucially used in the analysis still needs further solid scientific basis.  相似文献

The ARCADE 2 Collaboration has recently measured an isotropic radio emission which is significantly brighter than the expected contributions from known extra-galactic sources. The simplest explanation of such excess involves a "new" population of unresolved sources which become the most numerous at very low (observationally unreached) brightness. We investigate this scenario in terms of synchrotron radiation induced by weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP) annihilations or decays in extra-galactic halos. Intriguingly, for light-mass WIMPs with a thermal annihilation cross section, the level of expected radio emission matches the ARCADE observations.  相似文献

The HyperCP Collaboration has observed three events for the decay Sigma+ -->p mu+mu- which may be interpreted as a new particle of mass 214.3 MeV. However, existing data from kaon and B-meson decays provide stringent constraints on the construction of models that support this interpretation. In this Letter we show that the "HyperCP particle" can be identified with the light pseudoscalar Higgs boson in the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model, the A10. In this model there are regions of parameter space where the A10 can satisfy all the existing constraints from kaon and B-meson decays and mediate Sigma+ -->p mu+mu- at a level consistent with the HyperCP observation.  相似文献

Event-by-event fluctuations of the average transverse momentum of produced particles near midrapidity have been measured by the PHENIX Collaboration in square root of (sNN)=200 GeV Au+Au, and p+p collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The fluctuations are observed to be in excess of the expectation for statistically independent particle emission for all centralities. The excess fluctuations exhibit a dependence on both the centrality of the collision and on the pT range over which the average is calculated. Both the centrality and pT dependence can be well reproduced by a simulation of random particle production with the addition of contributions from hard-scattering processes.  相似文献

The UK Dark Matter Collaboration has run a 5–6 kg NaI detector in a well-shielded underground environment for about a year. Signatures of Cold Dark Matter (CDM) interactions are sought using pulse shape discrimination techniques by searching for the relatively short scintillation pulses arising from nuclear recoils among the residual, longer, background events from residual radioactivity in the detector and its environment. Here we report on an improvement to the limits on the CDM cross section for spin dependent interactions using our latest data from a crystal with improved detection efficiency and taking into account recent improved estimates of the spin factor correction between the nucleus and nucleon-supersymmetric particle cross sections.  相似文献

Particle production of charged hadrons in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt {s_{NN} } = 200$ GeV bas been studied as a function of rapidity by the BRAHMS Collaboration at RHIC. Selected recent results are presented with emphasis on longitudinal dynamics of particle production. The rapidity dependence of particle production imposes more stringent constraints on theoretical models describing dynamics of nuclear matter created by high-energy heavy ion collisions.  相似文献

Recently, the CDF Collaboration reports an anomaly in dijet mass distribution in association with a lepton and missing energy. We discuss a possibility that the origin of the lepton and missing energy comes not from a W boson but a new boson particle, which is also responsible for the dijet mass peak. We show that such a situation can be realized in the framework of the minimal supersymmetric standard model and the dijet anomaly can be explained.  相似文献

The international FAZIA (Four π A and Z Identification Array) Collaboration, presently involving researchers and institutions from France, Italy, Poland, Romania, Spain, India, Canada and USA, is currently investigating the use of new detector types/configurations (nTD Si detectors, single chip telescope) and new electronics (charge/current preamplifiers, digital sampling and signal processing) in view of defining a next-generation detection array with improved particle identification capability to study nuclear reaction dynamics and thermodynamics exploiting the Radioactive Nuclear Beam (RNB) facilities. The present main R&D activities inside the Collaboration are brielfly described.  相似文献

Neutrinoless double-beta decay (ββ(0ν)) is the most sensitive process in the search for leptonic number violation and its discovery would prove that the neutrino is a Majorana particle. From the experience of the NEMO-3 detector construction and data analysis, the NEMO Collaboration proposes a three-year R&D program in order to design a detector (SuperNEMO) sensitive to a ββ(0ν) period of few 1026 yr coupling track reconstruction and calorimeter. on behalf of the NEMO Collaboration The text was submitted by the author in English.  相似文献

The CERN LHC collider will operate with lead ions at √s of 5.5 TeV/nucleon. The ATLAS detector, designed to study high-pT physics in the pp mode of the LHC, has the potential to study ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions in a full range of observables characterized extremely dense matter and the formation of a quark-gluon plasma. The ATLAS physics program includes global event measurements (particle multiplicities, transverse momentum), suppression of heavy-quarkonia production, jet quenching, and a study of ultraperipheral collisions. As a prototypical massive field theory we study the scalar field on the recently introduced Finsler spacetimes. We show that particle excitations exist that propagate faster than the speed of light recognized as the boundary velocity of observers. This effect appears already in Finsler spacetime geometries with very small departures from Lorentzian metric geometry. It switches on for a sufficiently large ratio of the particle four-momentum and mass, and is the consequence of a modified version of the Coleman–Glashow velocity dispersion relation. The momentum dispersion relation on Finsler spacetimes is shown to be the same as on metric spacetimes, which differs from many quantum gravity models. If similar relations resulted for fermions on Finsler spacetimes, these generalized geometries could explain the potential observation of superluminal neutrinos claimed by the Opera Collaboration.  相似文献

Recently the WA97 Collaboration has measured , , , and negative particle yields and transverse mass spectra at central rapidity in Pb–Pb and p–Pb collisions at 158 A GeV/c. These results are compared with the predictions of two of the most widely used event generators for heavy-ion collisions: VENUS 4.12 and RQMD 2.3. Both models predict that enhancements increase with the strangeness content of the particle. They fail, however, to reproduce completely the measured values of yields at central rapidity. In particular, for multistrange particles, VENUS fails to reproduce both the p–Pb and the Pb–Pb data, while RQMD works for p–Pb collisions but seems to be unable to reproduce the data in Pb–Pb collisions. Moreover, the predicted behavior for strangeness production as a function of the centrality of the collision appears to be different from the observed behavior. The final state of Au+Au collisions at √s=130 AGeV at RHIC has been reconstructed within the framework of the Buda-Lund hydrodynamical model, by performing a simultaneous fit to final data on twoparticle Bose-Einstein correlations of the STAR and PHENIX Collaboration, and final identified single-particle spectra as measured by the PHENIX Collaboration. The results indicate a strongly three dimensional expansion, with a four-velocity field that is almost a spherically symmetric Hubble flow. We find large transverse geometrical source sizes, R G=9.8±1.2 fm, relatively short mean freeze-out time, τ0=6.1±0.3 fm/c and a short duration of particle emission, Δτ=0.02±1.5 fm/c. Most strikingsly, we find an indication for a hot central part of the hydrodynamically evolving core, characterized by a central temperature T 0=202±13 MeV that is close to (or even above) the deconfinement temperature of the quark-hadron phase transition. The best fit indicates a cold surface temperature T s=110±16 MeV. When the possibility of the hot center is excluded, the confidence level of the fit decreases from 28.9% to 1.0%. Predictions are made for the rapidity dependence of the slope parameters and for the transverse mass depedence of the rapidity width of the single-particle spectra, and the transverse mass dependence of the non-identical particle correlations.  相似文献

We have searched for the pion decay pi(+)-->&mgr;+X, where X is a neutral particle of mass 33.905 MeV. This process was suggested by the KARMEN Collaboration to explain an anomaly in their observed time distribution of neutrino induced reactions. Having measured the muon momentum spectrum of charged pions decaying in flight, we find no evidence for this process and place an upper limit on the branching fraction eta相似文献

The multi-source thermal model is used in this paper to analyze the long-range azimuth correlation in deutron-gold (d+Au) collisions at center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair √sNN=200 GeV measured by the PHENIX Collaboration at the relativistic heavy ion collider (RHIC), and the short-range pseudorapidity correlation in high multiplicity event in proton-proton (p+p) collisions at center-of-mass energy √s=0.9, 2.36, 7 TeV measured by the CMS Collaboration at the large hadron collider (LHC). The modeling results are in approximately agreement with the experimental data in error ranges. Four parameters are used in the analysis of long-range azimuth correlation, which show that the parameters describe the change trend of ridge structure. The ridge structure is related to the collective effect, hydrodynamic flow effect, transverse momentum and signal of particle pair, and so forth. Three parameters are used in the analysis of the short-range pseudorapidity correlation in high multiplicity event in small system, which show that the parameters σ and c3 are related to collision energy. Large collision energy results in strong correlation due to close distance between particles.  相似文献

Recently, the PVLAS Collaboration reported an anomalously large rotation of the polarization of light in the presence of a magnetic field in vacuum. As a possible explanation, they consider the existence of a light spin-zero particle coupled to two photons. We propose here a method of independently testing this result using a high-energy photon regeneration experiment (the x-ray analogue of "invisible light shining through walls") using the synchrotron x rays from a free-electron laser. With such an experiment the region of parameter space implied by PVLAS could be probed in a matter of minutes.  相似文献
