Moduli of Polarised Abelian Surfaces

The moduli variety parametrising abelian surfaces over ? with a polarisation of type (1, p) may be compactified by toroidal methods. We show that if p is a prime and p ≥ 173 then the compactified moduli variety is of general type.     

The Moduli Space of (1,11)-Polarized Abelian Surfaces is Unirational

We prove that the moduli space A ₁₁ ^lev of (1,11)-polarized Abelian surfaces with level structure of canonical type is birational to Klein's cubic hypersurface in P ⁴ . Therefore, A ₁₁ ^lev is unirational but not rational, and there are no ₁₁-cusp forms of weight 3. The same methods also provide an easy proof of the rationality of A ₉ ^lev .     

Real Quotient Singularities and Nonsingular Real Algebraic Curves in the Boundary of the Moduli Space

The quotient of a real analytic manifold by a properly discontinuous group action is, in general, only a semianalytic variety. We study the boundary of such a quotient, i.e., the set of points at which the quotient is not analytic. We apply the results to the moduli space M_g/ of nonsingular real algebraic curves of genus g (g2). This moduli space has a natural structure of a semianalytic variety. We determine the dimension of the boundary of any connected component of M_g/. It turns out that every connected component has a nonempty boundary. In particular, no connected component of M_g/ is real analytic. We conclude that M_g/ is not a real analytic variety.     

Moduli of (1, 7)–Polarized Abelian Surfaces via Syzygies

We prove that the moduli space X(1,7) of (1,7)–polarized abelian surfaces with canonical level–structure is birational to the Fano 3–fold V₂₂ of polar hexagons of the Klein quartic (7). In particular X(1,7) is rational and the birational map to ℙ³ is defined over ℚ. As a byproduct we obtain explicitely the equations of the (1,7)–very–ample–polarized abelian surfaces embedded in ℙ⁶.     

The Moduli Space of Six-Dimensional Two-Step Nilpotent Lie Algebras

We determine the moduli space of metric two-step nilpotent Lie algebras of dimension up to 6. This space is homeomorphic to a cone over a four-dimensional contractible simplicial complex. Moreover, we exhibit standard metric representatives of the seven isomorphism types of six-dimensional two-step nilpotent Lie algebras within our picture. Galois Theory for the Selmer Group of an Abelian Variety

This paper concerns the Galois theoretic behavior of the p-primary subgroup Sel _A (F) _p of the Selmer group for an Abelian variety A defined over a number field F in an extension K/F such that the Galois group G(K/F) is a p-adic Lie group. Here p is any prime such that A has potentially good, ordinary reduction at all primes of F lying above p. The principal results concern the kernel and the cokernel of the natural map s _K/F Sel _A (F) _p Sel _A (K) _p ^G(K/F) where F is any finite extension of F contained in K. Under various hypotheses on the extension K/F, it is proved that the kernel and cokernel are finite. More precise results about their structure are also obtained. The results are generalizations of theorems of B.Mazurand M. Harris.     

The de Rham Bundle on a Compactification of Moduli Space of Abelian Varieties

In this paper, we show that the Chern classes c _k of the de Rham bundle defined on any good toroidal compactification of the moduli space of Abelian varieties of dimension g are zero in the rational Chow ring of , for g=4, 5 and k>0.     

Orbits of Real Semisimple Lie Groups on Real Loci of Complex Symmetric Spaces

Let G be a complex semisimple algebraic group and X be a complex symmetric homogeneous G-variety. Assume that both G, X as well as the G-action on X are defined over real numbers.Then G(R) acts on X(R) with finitely many orbits. We describe these orbits in combinatorial terms using Galois cohomology, thus providing a patch to a result of Borel and Ji.     

The Jacobson Radical of an Endomorphism Ring for an Abelian Group

The Jacobson radical of an endomorphism ring is computed for a completely decomposable torsion-free Abelian group and for a mixed Abelian group in one class of mixed groups. For the latter case, we also look into the question when a factor ring w.r.t. the radical is regular in the sense of Nuemann.     

Albanese homomorphism of the Chow group of 0-cycles of a real Algebraic variety

We study a certain homomorphism of the Chow group of 0-cycles of degree zero of a real algebraic variety into the group of real points of the Albanese variety; this homomorphism is obtained from the Albanese mapping for the corresponding variety. The kernel of this homomorphism is calculated and estimates for the kernel of the mapping of the torsion groups are obtained. Moduli Problems of Sheaves Associated with Oriented Trees

To every oriented tree we associate vector bundle problems. We define semistability concepts for these vector bundle problems and establish the existence of moduli spaces. As an important application, we obtain an algebraic construction of the moduli space of holomorphic triples.

The Holomorphic 2-Number of a Hermitian Symmetric Space

This paper contains a proof a priori (i.e. independent of the classification of Hermitian symmetric spaces) of a theorem on the holomorphic 2-number of a Hermitian symmetric space. If N=G/K is a Hermitian symmetric space, where G is a compact simply connected simple Lie group, T a maximal torus of G and F(T,N) = E₁,... , E_m is the fixed point set of T in N, then for each pair E_i, E_j there is a two-dimensional sphere N_ij N such that E_i and E_j are antipodal points of N_ij.     

The Brauer and Witt Groups of Real Ruled Surfaces

The Brauer group and the Witt group of a real irrational ruled surface are determined by using equivariant cohomology.     

Dynamics of the Mapping Class Group on the Moduli of a Punctured Sphere with Rational Holonomy

Let M be a four-holed sphere and Γ the mapping class group of M fixing the boundary ∂M. The group Γ acts on which is the space of completely reducible SL (2, -gauge equivalence classes of flat SL -connections on M with fixed holonomy on ∂M. Let and be the compact component of the real points of . These points correspond to SU(2)-representations or SL(2, -representations. The Γ-action preserves and we study the topological dynamics of the Γ-action on and show that for a dense set of holonomy , the Γ-orbits are dense in . The Absolute of a Topological Space and its Application to Abelian l-groups

We give a axiomatic treatment of the absolute in the category of all topological spaces and characterize it as a cover with respect to the full subcategory of extremally disconnected spaces. As an application, we obtain the strongly projectable hull of an abelian l-group as a unique lifting of the absolute of its spectrum. Dedicated to B. V. M.
