Experiments were conducted in a turbulent boundary layer near separation along a flat plate. The pressure gradient in flow direction was varied such that three significant boundary layer configurations could be maintained. The flow in the test section thus had simultaneously a region of favourable pressure gradient, a region of strong adverse pressure gradient with boundary layer separation and a region of reattached boundary layer. Specially designed fine probes facilitated the measurements of skin friction and velocity distribution very close to the wall. Bulk flow parameters such as skin friction coefficient C f, Reynold's number Reδ2 and shape factors H and G, which are significant characteristics of wall boundary layers were evaluated. The dependence of these parameters on the Reynolds number and along the test section was explored and the values were compared with other empirical and analytical formulae known in the literature.  相似文献

A direct numerical simulation database of the flow around a NACA4412 wing section at R e c = 400,000 and 5° angle of attack (Hosseini et al. Int. J. Heat Fluid Flow 61, 117–128, 2016), obtained with the spectral-element code Nek5000, is analyzed. The Clauser pressure-gradient parameter β ranges from ? 0 and 85 on the suction side, and from 0 to ? 0.25 on the pressure side of the wing. The maximum R e ?? and R e τ values are around 2,800 and 373 on the suction side, respectively, whereas on the pressure side these values are 818 and 346. Comparisons between the suction side with zero-pressure-gradient turbulent boundary layer data show larger values of the shape factor and a lower skin friction, both connected with the fact that the adverse pressure gradient present on the suction side of the wing increases the wall-normal convection. The adverse-pressure-gradient boundary layer also exhibits a more prominent wake region, the development of an outer peak in the Reynolds-stress tensor components, and increased production and dissipation across the boundary layer. All these effects are connected with the fact that the large-scale motions of the flow become relatively more intense due to the adverse pressure gradient, as apparent from spanwise premultiplied power-spectral density maps. The emergence of an outer spectral peak is observed at β values of around 4 for λ z ? 0.65δ 99, closer to the wall than the spectral outer peak observed in zero-pressure-gradient turbulent boundary layers at higher R e ?? . The effect of the slight favorable pressure gradient present on the pressure side of the wing is opposite the one of the adverse pressure gradient, leading to less energetic outer-layer structures.  相似文献

The experimental study of the turbulent boundary layer under external flow conditions similar to those found on the suction side of airfoils in trailing-edge post-stall conditions has been performed. Detailed boundary layer measurements were carried out with a PIV system and a two-sensor wall probe. They cover the region downstream of the suction peak where the boundary layer is subjected to a very strong adverse pressure gradient and has suffered from an abrupt transition from strong favorable to strong adverse pressure gradients. The experiments show that in spite of these severe conditions, the boundary layer is surprisingly able to recover a state of near-equilibrium before separating. In this near-equilibrium zone, the mean velocity defect and all the measured Reynolds stresses are self-similar (in the outer region) with respect to the outer scales δ and U e δ*/δ. The mean momentum balance indicates that for the upper half of the outer region, the advection terms dominate all the stress-gradient terms in the zone prior to separation. A large portion of the outer region has therefore become essentially an inertial flow zone where an approach toward equilibrium is expected. An erratum to this article can be found at  相似文献

This paper presents a numerical prediction of the formation of Goertler vortices on a concave surface with suction and blowing. Suction stabilizes the boundary layer flow on the surface, whereas blowing destabilizes the flow. The criterion on the position marking the onset of Goertler vortices is defined in the present paper. For facilitating the numerical study, the computation is carried out in the transformed x–η plane. The results show that the onset position characterized by the Goertler number depends on the local suction/blowing parameter, the Prandtl number and the wavenumber. The value of the critical Goertler number increases with the increase in suction, while the value of the Goertler number decreases with the increase in blowing. Both the experimental and the numerical data can be correlated by Gθ*=10.2(a′θ)*3/2 without suction and blowing and by a simple relation G*x=(G*x)γ=0 e−γ with suction and blowing. The obtained critical Goertler number and wavenumber are in good agreement with the previous experimental data. Copyright © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A rarely adopted simple finite difference scheme has been successfully employed to solve the nonlinear coupled partial differential equations, with nonhomogeneous boundary condition, which describe the free convection at a vertical plate with transpiration. The solution is obtained for a Prandtl number of 0.72, in the blowing parameter range of — 1.9 < Cx < 1.9. The effects of suction and blowing on heat transfer and skin friction are discussed. It is concluded that the boundary layer has a better memory of the upstream suction distribution than of the upstream blowing distribution.  相似文献

Effect of local forcing on a turbulent boundary layer   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
An experimental study is performed to analyze flow structures behind local suction and blowing in a flat-plate turbulent boundary layer. The local forcing is given to the boundary layer flow by means of a sinusoidally oscillating jet issuing from a thin spanwise slot at the wall. The Reynolds number based on the momentum thickness is about Re θ =1700. The effects of local forcing are scrutinized by altering the forcing frequency (0.011 ≤ f+≤ 0.044). The forcing amplitude is fixed at A 0=0.4. It is found that a small local forcing reduces the skin friction and the skin friction reduction increases with the forcing frequency. A phase-averaging technique is employed to capture the large-scale vortex evolution. An organized spanwise vortical structure is generated by the local forcing. The cross-sectional area of vortex and the time fraction of vortex are examined by changing the forcing frequency. An investigation of the random fluctuation components reveals that turbulent energy is concentrated near the center of vortical structures. Received: 17 March 2000/Accepted: 3 April 2001  相似文献

Summary The velocity profiles of a turbulent boundary layer with zero skin friction throughout its region of pressure rise, measured by Stratford in 1959, are analyzed in terms of a law of the wall and a velocity-defect law with a common velocity scale and a logarithmic velocity profile in the region of overlap. The analysis deviates from earlier work by Stratford and Townsend. It is shown that the flow in Stratford's boundary layer, even at the largest value of x 1 at which measurements were taken, is not yet in a state of equilibrium. The velocity scale for turbulent boundary layers with zero skin friction is proportional to the cube root of the pressure gradient.  相似文献

In this paper we address the effectiveness of riblets on skin friction reduction under the influence of an adverse pressure gradient. The measurements were taken in a wind tunnel. Skin friction was observed with a drag balance which has a reproducibility of better than 1%. The accuracy of the balance is estimated to be less than 1% for the case of zero-pressure gradient and at most 3% for a pressure gradient. The data on skin friction reduction at zero pressure gradient were consistent with previous results and amount to 5% at dimensionless riblet width of s + = 13. We find that at all adverse pressure gradients the skin friction reduction by riblets persists. At moderate pressure gradients the reduction increases somewhat to 7%. The velocity profile which is also measured, exhibits the characteristic shape for a boundary layer with an adverse pressure gradient and agrees well with theory. From the velocity profiles measured at two stations we estimated with the help of a momentum balance the skin friction and skin friction reduction. The results differ from the drag-balance data. Due to the poor accuracy of the momentum balance method which we estimate in our case, we conclude that the results obtained with this method are less reliable than those obtained with the drag balance. This throws some doubt on previous results on drag reduction under the influence of a pressure gradient which were based on the momentum balance method.  相似文献

Three indirect methods of measuring skin friction (Preston tube, sublayer fence, and wall pulsed wire) were compared with a direct method (floating-element balance) in a boundary layer with a strong adverse pressure gradient. In one case skin-friction measurements were performed in a boundary layer with separation and reattachment. Agreement between the three methods and the balance was satisfactory, with differences between the indirect methods and the balance reading high in regions with a strong decrease of w and low where w increased in streamwise direction. There existed a tendency of the differences to increase with increasing h +, but no general correlation with h + could be found.  相似文献

Influence of wall riblets on diffuser flow   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Diffuser flows have been investigated with different riblet combinations both experimentally and numerically. Wall pressures and velocity profiles have been measured throughout a large working domain. In addition numerical calculations have been performed by accounting for the strong coupling between the inviscid core flow and the viscous boundary layer flows by using a simple model based on the negative roughness for the riblet walls.Nomenclature c f skin friction coefficient - p local static pressure - x streamwise distance - y distance normal to the wall - u friction velocity - A diffuser cross section - H shape factor - U e fluid velocity in inviscid flow - W 1 inlet height of the diffuser - * boundary layer displacement thickness - density of working fluid Institut de Machines Hydrauliques et de Mecanique des Fluides  相似文献

In this study, laminar boundary layer flow over a flat plate embedded in a fluid-saturated porous medium in the presence of viscous dissipation, inertia effect and suction/injection is analyzed using the Keller box finite difference method. The flat plate is assumed to be held at constant temperature. The non-Darcian effects of convection, boundary and inertia are considered. Results for the local heat transfer parameter and the local skin friction parameter as well as the velocity and temperature profiles are presented for various values of the governing parameters. The non-Darcian effects are shown to decrease the velocity and to increase the temperature. It is also shown that the local heat transfer parameter and the local skin friction parameter increase due to suction of fluid while injection reverses this trend. It is disclosed that the effect of the viscous dissipation for negative values of Ec (T w < T ) is to enhance the heat transfer coefficient while the opposite is true for positive values of Ec (T w > T ). The results are compared with those available in the existing literature and an excellent agreement is obtained.  相似文献

The boundary layer flow and heat transfer on a stretched surface moving with prescribed skin friction is studied for permeable surface. Three major cases are studied for isothermal surface (n=0) stretched corresponding to different dimensional skin friction boundary conditions namely; skin friction at the surface scales as (x ?1/2) at m=0, constant skin friction at m=1/3 and skin friction scales as (x) at m=1. The constants m and n are the indices of the power law velocity and temperature exponent respectively. Similarity solutions are obtained for the boundary layer equations subject to power law temperature and velocity variation. The effect of various governing parameters, such as Prandtl number Pr, suction/injection parameter f w , m and n are studied. The results show that for isothermal surface increasing m enhances the dimensionless heat transfer coefficient for fixed f w at the suction case and the reverse is true at the injection case. Furthermore, for fixed m, as f w increases the dimensionless heat transfer coefficient increases. Large enhancements are observed in the heat transfer coefficient as the temperature boundary condition along the surface changes from uniform to linear where the dimensional skin friction is of order (x) at m=1. This enhancement decreases as the suction increases.  相似文献

In this paper, we use nonlinear calculations to study curved boundary‐layer flows with pressure gradients and self‐similar suction or blowing. For an accelerated outer flow, stabilization occurs in the linear region while the saturation amplitude of vortices is larger than for flows with a decelerating outer flow. The combined effects of boundary‐layer suction and a favourable pressure gradient can give a significant stabilization of the flow. Streamwise vortices can be amplified on both concave and convex walls for decelerated Falkner–Skan flow with an overshoot in the velocity profile. The disturbance amplitude is generally lower far downstream compared with profiles without overshoot. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The transition and separation processes of the boundary layer developing on a flat plate under a prescribed adverse pressure gradient typical of Ultra-High-Lift low-pressure turbine profiles have been investigated, with and without the application of a synthetic jet (zero net mass flow rate jet). A mechanical piston has been adopted to produce an intermittent flow with zero net mass flow rate. The capability of the device to suppress or reduce the large laminar separation bubble occurring under steady inflow condition at low Reynolds numbers has been experimentally investigated by means of hot-wire measurements. Wall static pressure measurements complement the hot-wire time-resolved velocity results. The paper reports the investigations performed for both steady and controlled conditions. The active device is able to control the laminar separation bubble induced at low Reynolds number conditions by the strong adverse pressure gradient. An overall view of the time-dependent evolution of the controlled boundary layer is provided by the phase-locked ensemble averaging technique, triggered at the synthetic jet frequency. The separated flow transition process, which is detected for the uncontrolled condition, is modified by the synthetic jet in different ways during the blowing and suction phases. Overall, the phase-locked velocity distributions show a reduced separated flow region for the whole jet cycle as compared to the uncontrolled condition. The phase-locked distributions of the random unsteadiness allow the identification of vortical structures growing along the shear layer mainly during the blowing phase.  相似文献

Adaptive wall functions for the v2f turbulence model have been derived for the flow over a flat plate at zero pressure gradient. These wall functions were implemented via tables for the turbulence quantities and the friction velocity uτ. A special treatment for the ε and f boundary conditions is proposed. On fine grids (y+<1) this approach yields results consistent with the wall integration solution. Detailed numerical results are presented for a zero pressure gradient boundary layer and separated flow over a ramp. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

高频吹气扰动影响近壁区拟序结构统计特性的实验研究   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1

This paper presents the results of a parametric experimental study of free swirling flow at the exit of a flat-vane axial swirler. A total of 16 data sets were acquired by combining four swirler vane angles (22°, 29°, 50.5°, and 58.3°) and four exit nozzles of different diameters (30, 40, 52, and 76 mm). Sophisticated pressure probes consisting of precise microphones and a two-component LDV system were used to investigate the effect of these geometrical parameters on swirling flow regimes characterized by the swirl number. Particular attention was paid to the precessing vortex core (PVC) phenomenon observed at the exit of the swirler nozzle. It has been shown that by varying the vane angle and the diameter of the exit nozzle, it is possible to independently control the swirl number value and the occurrence of a PVC. A distinct correlation has been found between the PVC-induced pressure pulsations detected by acoustic probes and the tangential velocity fluctuations measured by LDV. The use of microphones provides a quick way to measure the frequency response of swirl flow in a wide range of geometries and flow configurations. The PVC effect does not occur at low subcritical values of the integral swirl number (S < 0.5) and in the case of strong swirl flow (Sg = 0.9 and 1.2) in the absence of constriction by the nozzle (De/D0 = 1). The disappearance of the PVC effect for strong swirl flow without constriction is due to the extreme displacement of the flow to the nozzle walls. The absence of a PVC in the flow was inferred not only from measurements of the frequency response of the flow over a wide range of Re numbers, but also from the absence of specific markers in velocity RMS distributions. Measurement results are used to derive an empirical correlation of the integral swirl number and the Strouhal number with a modified geometric swirl number. This allows a generalization of the frequency characteristics of swirling flows with a PVC for flat-vane axial swirlers, which are widely used in engineering.  相似文献

The effects of suction/injection on steady laminar mixed convection boundary layer flow over a permeable horizontal surface of a wedge in a viscous and incompressible fluid is considered in this paper. The similarity solutions of the governing boundary layer equations are obtained for some values of the suction/injection parameter f 0, the constant exponent m of the wall temperature as well as the mixed convection parameter λ. The resulting system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations is solved numerically for both assisting and opposing flow regimes using an implicit finite-difference scheme known as the Keller-box method. Numerical results for the reduced skin friction coefficient, the local Nusselt number, and the velocity and temperature profiles are obtained for various values of parameters considered. Dual solutions are found to exist for the case of opposing flow.  相似文献
