The recently developed Fokas method for solving two‐dimensional Boundary Value Problems (BVP) via the use of global relations is utilized to solve axisymmetric problems in three dimensions. In particular, novel integral representations for the interior and exterior Dirichlet and Neumann problems for the sphere are derived, which recover and improve the already known solutions of these problems. The BVPs considered in this paper can be classically solved using either the finite Legendre transform or the Mellin‐sine transform (which can be derived from the classical Mellin transform in a way similar to the way that the sine transform can be derived from the Fourier transform). The Legendre transform representation is uniformly convergent at the boundary, but it involves a series that is not useful for many applications. The Mellin‐sine transform involves of course an integral but it is not uniformly convergent at the boundary. In this paper: (a) The Legendre transform representation is rederived in a simpler approach using algebraic manipulations instead of solving ODEs. (b) An integral representation, different that the Mellin‐sine transform representation is derived which is uniformly convergent at the boundary. Furthermore, the derivation of the Fokas approach involves only algebraic manipulations, instead of solving an ordinary differential equation.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to introduce the vector space δF m(Ω). Equipping this space by a norm defined using the Hessian measure, we prove that it is a Banach space and that the class F m(Ω) is closed in it. Moreover we show that the topology defined by this norm is stronger than the convergence in Capm-capacity. At the end of this paper we prove a relationship between weak convergence and the convergence in capacity Capm,T in the class δSH m loc (Ω).  相似文献

The asymptotic behavior of the attraction–repulsion Keller–Segel model in one dimension is studied in this paper. The global existence of classical solutions and nonconstant stationary solutions of the attraction–repulsion Keller–Segel model in one dimension were previously established by Liu and Wang (2012), which, however, only provided a time‐dependent bound for solutions. In this paper, we improve the results of Liu and Wang (2012) by deriving a uniform‐in‐time bound for solutions and furthermore prove that the model possesses a global attractor. For a special case where the attractive and repulsive chemical signals have the same degradation rate, we show that the solution converges to a stationary solution algebraically as time tends to infinity if the attraction dominates. Scand 91:214–220, 2002) the authors conjectured that a non-elementary subgroup in SL(2, C) containing parabolic and elliptic elements is discrete if and only if each two-generator subgroup generated by a parabolic and an elliptic element is discrete. This paper compares different ant colony optimization algorithms for solving the NP-hard car-sequencing problem, which is of great practical interest. The five algorithms that are compared are the Ant System (AS), the Elitist AS, the Rank-Based AS, the Max–Min AS and the Ant Colony System. These algorithms, which are well known in the literature, differ in the way in which the pheromone trail is managed. The comparative analysis seeks to identify which algorithm best manages the learning process in solving the car-sequencing problem. Moreover, we propose a new structure for the pheromone trail specifically designed to take advantage of the type of constraints found in the car-sequencing problem. The quality of the results obtained with this new form of learning for three problem sets drawn from the literature is superior to that of the best results published and demonstrates the efficiency of this new trail structure.  相似文献

This paper considers the solution of a deterministic queueing system. In this system, the single server provides service in bulk with a threshold for the acceptance of customers into service. Analytic results are given for the steady-state probabilities of the number of customers in the system and in the queue for random and pre-arrival epochs. The solution of this system is a prerequisite to a four-point approximation to the model GI/G a,b /1. The paper demonstrates that the solution of such a system is not a trivial problem and can produce interesting results. The graphical solution discussed in the literature requires that the traffic intensity be a rational number. The results so generated may be misleading in practice when a control policy is imposed, even when the probability distributions for the interarrival and service times are both deterministic.  相似文献

In this paper,a nonlinear nonautonomous predator-prey dispersion model with continuous distributed delay is studied,where all parameters are time-dependent.In this system consisting of n-patches the prey species can disperse among n-patches,but the predator species is confined to one patch and cannot disperse.It is proved that the system is uniformly persistent under any dispersion rate effect.Furthermore,some sufficient conditions are established for the existence of a unique almost periodic solution of the system.The example shows that the criteria in the paper are new,general and easily verifiable.  相似文献

In this paper we derive the asymptotic expansion of the null distribution of the F-statistic in one-way ANOVA under non-normality. The asymptotic framework is when the number of treatments is moderate but sample size per treatment (replication size) is small. This kind of asymptotics will be relevant, for example, to agricultural screening trials where large number of cultivars are compared with few replications per cultivar. There is also a huge potential for the application of this kind of asymptotics in microarray experiments. Based on the asymptotic expansion we will devise a transformation that speeds up the convergence to the limiting distribution. The results indicate that the approximation based on limiting distribution are unsatisfactory unless number of treatments is very large. Our numerical investigations reveal that our asymptotic expansion performs better than other methods in the literature when there is skewness in the data or even when the data comes from a symmetric distribution with heavy tails.  相似文献

In this paper we study the spectral counting function for the weightedp-laplacian in one dimension. First, we prove that all the eigenvalues can be obtained by a minimax characterization and then we show the existence of a Weyl-type leading term. Finally we find estimates for the remainder term. In this paper, the confluent form of the multistep ? ‐algorithm is proposed. The molecule solution of this system is derived by using determinantal identities. A new continuous prediction algorithm based on this confluent form is constructed. It also shows that this algorithm is a special case of the extended Lotka–Volterra system.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a Tau method for solving the singular Lane–Emden equation—a nonlinear ordinary differential equation on a semi‐infinite interval. We applied collocation, Galerkin, and Tau methods for solving this problem, and according to the results, the solution of Tau method is the most accurate. The operational derivative and product matrices of the modified generalized Laguerre functions are presented. These matrices, in conjunction with the Tau method, are then utilized to reduce the solution of the Lane–Emden equation to that of a system of algebraic equations. This paper is concerned with the nonlinear full Marguerre-von Kármán shallow shell system with a dissipative mechanism of memory type. The model depends on one small parameter. The proof of Proposition 9 in Archimedes’ On the Sphere and the Cylinder, Book i, contains an unproved statement that has been referred to as a “lacuna.” Most editors and experts in Archimedean texts have agreed on the existence of this gap and have offered different proofs for the statement, some of them with incomplete or even incorrect arguments. In this paper, I offer arguments of a mathematical, historical, and textual nature that show that it is not necessary to assume the presence of any gap in the text.  相似文献

The μ‐Camassa‐Holm equation with linear dispersion is a completely integrable model. In this paper, it is shown that this equation has quadratic pseudo‐potentials that allow us to construct pseudo‐potential–type nonlocal symmetries. As an application, we obtain its recursion operator by using this kind of nonlocal symmetry, and we construct a Darboux transformation for the μ‐Camassa‐Holm equation.  相似文献

In this paper it is argued that Eratosthenes's measurement of the earth depended on estimated distances and ratios as well as approximation procedures, and that precise observations were not involved. His method is reconstructed here from a number of ancient texts, and it is concluded that Cleomedes, or his source, misunderstood and misrepresented what Eratosthenes did.  相似文献

The minimum weighted k-cardinality subgraph problem consists of finding a connected subgraph of a given graph with exactly k edges whose sum of weights is minimum. For this NP-hard combinatorial problem, only constructive types of heuristics have been suggested in the literature. In this paper we propose a new heuristic based on variable neighborhood search metaheuristic rules. This procedure uses a new local search developed by us. Extensive numerical results that include graphs with up to 5,000 vertices are reported. It appears that VNS outperforms all previous methods.  相似文献

In this paper, we analyze two mathematical modeling frameworks that reflect different managerial attitudes toward upside risk in the context of R&D portfolio selection. The manager seeks to allocate a development budget between low-risk, low-reward projects, called incremental projects, and high-risk, high-reward projects, called innovational projects. Because of their highly uncertain nature and significant probability of failure, the expected value of the innovational projects is smaller than that of their incremental projects’ counterpart, but the long-term financial health of a company necessitates to take risk in order to maintain growth. We study the differences in strategy and portfolio’s risk profile that arise between a risk-aware manager, who takes upside risk because he has to for the long-term competitive advantage of his company, and a risk-seeking manager, who will take as big a bet as allowed by the model. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first paper to consider upside risk management using a robust-optimization-like methodology.  相似文献
