It is emphasized that any equation of state (EOS) based on the generalized Lennard-Jones potential or the Mie potential, suffers from two main shortcomings as pointed out by Stacey and Davis [2]. One of the shortcomings viz. the problem related to imaginary numbers for the exponents in the potential function, has been removed recently by Jiuxun [11] by using a relationship between the exponents. However, the modified EOS obtained by Jiuxun suffers from the second shortcoming viz. it gives lower values for −B 0 B0, an important equation of state parameter related to the second pressure derivative of the bulk modulus. Values of B 0 B0 obtained by Jiuxun are not consistent with those reported by Stacey and Davis.   相似文献

A new investigation is done of the possibility of binding the “dodecatoplet”, a system of six top quarks and six top antiquarks, (t 6 6), using the Yukawa potential mediated by Higgs exchange. A simple variational method gives a upper bound close to that recently estimated in a mean-field calculation. It is supplemented by a lower bound provided by identities among the Hamiltonians describing the system and its subsystems.  相似文献

We study the Cauchy problem for the Whitham modulation equations for increasing smooth initial data. The Whitham equations are a collection of one-dimensional quasi-linear hyperbolic systems. This collection of systems is enumerated by the genus g=0,1,2, ... of the corresponding hyperelliptic Riemann surface. Each of these systems can be integrated by the so-called hodograph transformation introduced by Tsarev. A key step in the integration process is the solution of the Tsarev linear overdetermined system. For each g>0, we construct the unique solution of the Tsarev system, which matches the genus g+1 and g–1 solutions on the transition boundaries.  相似文献

ZnO nanorods were synthesized through a simple chemical method by reacting Zn(C2H3O2)2·2H2O and NaOH at low temperature and the effects of changing the order of addition of reactants on the morphological evolution of ZnO nanorods were investigated. The samples were characterized by using XRD, SEM, EDX, TEM, BET and Raman techniques. Optical properties of the ZnO nanostructures were too investigated by UV–Vis spectroscopy at room temperature.The hexagonal wurtzite phase of ZnO was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) for all the samples. SEM and TEM analysis indicated that different morphologies were obtained by changing the order of addition of reactants.  相似文献

We present an approximate QCD vacuum for SU(N → ∞). It is a generalization of the ferromagnetic vacuum first obtained by Savvidy for SU(2) and generalized by one of us to SU(3) and SU(4). Problems occuring for N ? 5 are handled in the large-Nlimit by a contnious formalism, and the vacuum obtained is characterized by N ? 1 constant, commuting, color magnetic fields with an isotropic distribution of spatial directions. The energy density of this vacuum is lower than of the perturbative vacuum by a number proportional to N2, as expected from general large-N arguments. Like the Savvidy vacuum the large-N vacuum may decay into a variant of the domained Copenhagen vacuum. We give a lower limit on the domain size.  相似文献

The results of studies of the point-defect generation kinetics in the Si-SiO2 system by means of Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) and InfraRed (IR) absorption spectroscopy are presented. The influence of oxidation conditions (oxidation temperature and time, cooling rate) on the defect structure of the Si-SiO2 interface has been studied. It is shown that this influence can be explained by the model of point-defect generation proposed by Tan and Gösele, and the structural properties of the Si-SiO2 system can be improved by an appropriate choice of the oxidation conditions.  相似文献

Themodel of degenerate weakly nonideal Bose gas is considered without the assumption on the C-number nature of creation and annihilation operators of particles in the zero-momentum state. It was shown that the “density-density” Green’s function pole defines the Bogolyubov spectrum of phonon-roton-type collective excitations. The single-particle excitation spectrum is characterized by the gap whose value is defined by the particle density in the “condensate”.  相似文献

We discuss the relation between density matrices and the uncertainty principle; this allows us to justify and explain a recent statement by Man'ko et al. We thereafter use Hardy's uncertainty principle to prove a new result for Wigner distributions dominated by a Gaussian and we relate this result to the coarse-graining of phase-space by “quantum blobs”.  相似文献

Summary A stack of CR-39 (HCB 0.5%) passive solid-state nuclear track detectors were irradiated by primary cosmic rays near the top of the atmosphere. The stack of detectors were flown by balloons launched from Alice Springs, Australia in 1983. After 16 h 41 min flight exposure at an atmospheric pressure of 9.5 mb the plates were collected and chemically etched in 6.7 N NaOH aqueous solution at 70°C for 27 hours. The diameter distribution of the 1208 etch pits caused by the presence of heavy ions in primary cosmic rays was measured by a transmitted light Leitz Ortholux microscope having an objective×10 and a×15 filar micrometer eyepiece attachment. The diameter distribution was standardised and calibrated against the conventional cosmic-ray results found by Tasakaet al. The estimated charge spectrum is in accord with the nuclear emulsion data of Daniel and Durgaprasad, Kristianssonet al., Saito and Chohanet al.  相似文献

All continuous irreducible representations of the SL(2, C) group (as given by Naimark) are obtained by means of methods developed by Harish-Chandra and Kihlberg. The analysis is done in the SU(2) basis and a single closed expression for the matrix elements of the noncompact generators for an arbitrary irreducible representation of SL(2, C) is given. For the unitary irreducible representations the scalar product for each irreducible Hilbert space is found explicitly. The connection between the unitary irreducible representations of SL(2, C) and those of
is discussed by means of Inönü and Wigner contraction procedure and the Gell-Mann formula. Finally, due to physical interest, the addition of a four-vector operator to SL(2, C) unitary irreducible representations in a minimal way is considered; and all group extensions of the parity and time reversal operators by SL(2, C) are explicitly obtained and some aspects of their representations are treated.  相似文献

This paper compares three different types of “onset of chaos” in the logistic and generalized logistic map: the Feigenbaum attractor at the end of the period doubling bifurcations; the tangent bifurcation at the border of the period three window; the transition to chaos in the generalized logistic with inflection 1/2 (xn+1 = 1-μxn1/2), in which the main bifurcation cascade, as well as the bifurcations generated by the periodic windows in the chaotic region, collapse in a single point. The occupation number and the Tsallis entropy are studied. The different regimes of convergence to the attractor, starting from two kinds of far-from-equilibrium initial conditions, are distinguished by the presence or absence of log-log oscillations, by different power-law scalings and by a gap in the saturation levels. We show that the escort distribution implicit in the Tsallis entropy may tune the log-log oscillations or the crossover times.  相似文献

The electro-optic (E-O) properties of the slab polymer waveguide induced by electric poling have been studied experimentally. The thin film waveguide was prepared by a synthesized polymer polypelargonamide and poled by applying voltage between the electrodes. I–V curves and E-O characteristics of the polymer films were in-situ measured during poling. In order to evaluate the molecular dipole orientation under the poling field, the absorption spectra of this film was observed by FTIR. The E-O performance of the polymer slab film was also estimated by the Mach–Zehnder interferometer.  相似文献

We discuss the constraints on supersymmetry in the Higgs sector arising from LHC searches, rare B decays and dark matter direct detection experiments. We show that constraints derived on the mass of the lightest h 0 and the CP-odd A 0 bosons from these searches are covering a larger fraction of the SUSY parameter space compared to searches for strongly interacting supersymmetric particle partners. We discuss the implications of a mass determination for the lightest Higgs boson in the range 123<M h <127?GeV, inspired by the intriguing hints reported by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations, as well as those of a non-observation of the lightest Higgs boson for MSSM scenarios not excluded at the end of 2012 by LHC and direct dark matter searches and their implications on LHC SUSY searches.  相似文献

The temperature dependence of the electrostatic field strength on the specimen surface was observed by electron diffraction; it decreased as the degassing advanced. The successive analytical expressions up to fifth order for the Curie temperature, Tc(D,d), of the D-vector model on d-dimensional hypercubic lattices are evaluated by the Ginzburg-Landau theory based on cumulant expansion. The results by substituting d = 3 and D = 1, 2, 3 into the expressions approach order by order those of the Ising, XY, and Heisenberg models by Monte Carlo simulation (MC). The diffuse interstellar band (DIB) at 5797.1 Å is simulated based on three premises: (1) The carrier of the DIB is polar as concluded by T. Oka et al. from the anomalous spectrum toward Herschel 36 (Her 36). (2) The sharp central feature observed by P.J. Sarre's group is the Q-branch of a parallel band of a prolate top. (3) The radiative temperature of the environment is Tr = 2.73 K. A 2Π ← 2Π transition of a linear radical is simulated. Results depend on 10 parameters, with the rotational constant B being the most critical. Comparisons of calculated spectra with observed data constrain B, which in turn constrains the number of heavy atoms to 5 ≤ n ≤ 7. Upper limits based on the Her 36 spectrum and lower limits based on stability against photodissociation are also discussed. The latter is based on the assumption that the DIB molecules are produced top-down from the breakdown of dust rather than bottom-up by chemical reactions. A difficulty with this limit is that J.P. Maier's laboratory has observed many molecules within this size range, some of which have been tested astronomically. Candidates are discussed in light of many prolate tops observed by the P. Thaddeus and M.C. McCarthy microwave group.  相似文献

Optical emission of the plasma generated on SiC samples by pulsed laser beam from an Nd:YAG laser was used to investigate the spatial evolution of the electron temperature (Te) and density (Ne) of the plasma. The range and the profile of the plasma were characterized by the electron temperature Te and the electron density Ne, as functions of the distance from the SiC surface. It was found that the characterized spatial distribution closely coincided with the spatial images of the plasma recorded by a digital camera. The results obtained from the two different experimental measurements are consistent with other data from the literature, obtained either by models or experiments. The present result may give the insight to the complex physical phenomena in the thin film preparations using the pulsed laser deposition (PLD).  相似文献

Nanoparticles are increasingly being used for treatment and diagnostic purposes, but their effects on cells is not fully understood. Here, the interaction of fluorescent up-conversion nanoparticles (UpC-NPs) with neutrophils was investigated by imaging and measurement of membrane-cytosceletal elasticity by atomic force microscopy. It was found that UpC-NPs induce the death of neutrophils mainly by necrosis, and to a smaller extent by a novel process called ‘mummification'. Necrosis occurs by gradual loss of intracellular contents and nuclei, 45–110 min after exposure to UpC-NPs. Mummification is apparent as an increase in the rigidity of the neutrophils' membrane and acquisition of a characteristic bumpy shape with numerous protrusions; this structure does not change during atomic force microscopy scanning. Coating UpC-NPs with protein by incubation with serum leads to (1) formation of nanoparticle aggregates in the nm and μm size range, (2) a reduction in toxicity, (3) reduced mummification of neutrophils, and (4) no significant reduction of the elasticity of the membrane-cytoskeletal complex of neutrophils 30 min after exposure to coated UpC-NPs. The study shows that serum proteins greatly curb the toxicity of nanoparticles and reveals mummification as a novel mechanism of UpC-NP-induced cell death.  相似文献

The large discrepancy between the value 0·4 D Å measured by Buckingham for the quadrupole moment of oxygen and the recent value 1·21 D Å used by Yamamoto and Cattani and by Bouanich in line-broadening calculations is examined. When hexadecapolar and repulsive interactions are included, the discrepancy in the values of the quadrupole moment obtained by the bi-refringence method and line width calculations is resolved provided a value of Φ ~ 8 D Å3 is used for the hexadecapole moment of oxygen.  相似文献
