Nonlinear programming using minimax techniques   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
A minimax approach to nonlinear programming is presented. The original nonlinear programming problem is formulated as an unconstrained minimax problem. Under reasonable restrictions, it is shown that a point satisfying the necessary conditions for a minimax optimum also satisfies the Kuhn-Tucker necessary conditions for the original problem. A leastpth type of objective function for minimization with extremely large values ofp is proposed to solve the problem. Several numerical examples compare the present approach with the well-known SUMT method of Fiacco and McCormick. In both cases, a recent minimization algorithm by Fletcher is used.This paper is based on work presented at the 5th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, Honolulu, Hawaii, 1972. Over the past few years a number of researchers in mathematical programming became very interested in the method of the Augmented Lagrangian to solve the nonlinear programming problem. The main reason being that the Augmented Lagrangian approach overcomes the ill-conditioning problem and the slow convergence of the penalty methods. The purpose of this paper is to present a new method of solving the nonlinear programming problem, which has similar characteristics to the Augmented Lagrangian method. The original nonlinear programming problem is transformed into the minimization of a leastpth objective function which under certain conditions has the same optimum as the original problem. Convergence and rate of convergence of the new method is also proved. Furthermore numerical results are presented which illustrate the usefulness of the new approach to nonlinear programming.This work was supported by the National Research Council of Canada and by the Department of Combinatorics and Optimization of the University of Waterloo.  相似文献

A new approach for obtaining the second order sufficient conditions for non-linear mathematical programming problems which makes use of second order derivative is presented. In the so-called second order η-approximation method, an optimization problem associated with the original nonlinear programming problem is constructed that involves a second order η-approximation of both the objective function and the constraint function constituting the original problem. The equivalence between the nonlinear original mathematical programming problem and its associated second orderη-approximated optimization problem is established under second order invexity assumption imposed on the functions constituting the original optimization problem.  相似文献

In this article, an approach for solving finite minimax problems is proposed. This approach is based on the use of hyperbolic smoothing functions. In order to apply the hyperbolic smoothing we reformulate the objective function in the minimax problem and study the relationship between the original minimax and reformulated problems. We also study main properties of the hyperbolic smoothing function. Based on these results an algorithm for solving the finite minimax problem is proposed and this algorithm is implemented in general algebraic modelling system. We present preliminary results of numerical experiments with well-known nonsmooth optimization test problems. We also compare the proposed algorithm with the algorithm that uses the exponential smoothing function as well as with the algorithm based on nonlinear programming reformulation of the finite minimax problem.  相似文献

A new approach to a solution of a nonlinear constrained mathematical programming problem involving r-invex functions with respect to the same function η is introduced. An η-approximated problem associated with an original nonlinear mathematical programming problem is presented that involves η-approximated functions constituting the original problem. The equivalence between optima points for the original mathematical programming problem and its η-approximated optimization problem is established under r-invexity assumption.  相似文献

We consider 0–1 programming problems with a minimax objective function and any set of constraints. Upon appropriate transformations of its cost coefficients, such a minimax problem can be reduced to a linear minisum problem with the same set of feasible solutions such that an optimal solution to the latter will also solve the original minimax problem.Although this reducibility applies for any 0–1 programming problem, it is of particular interest for certain locational decision models. Among the obvious implications are that an algorithm for solving a p-median (minisum) problem in a network will also solve a corresponding p-center (minimax) problem.It should be emphasized that the results presented will in general only hold for 0–1 problems due to intrinsic properties of the minimax criterion.  相似文献

Real engineering design problems are generally characterized by the presence of many often conflicting and incommensurable objectives. Naturally, these objectives involve many parameters whose possible values may be assigned by the experts. The aim of this paper is to introduce a hybrid approach combining three optimization techniques, dynamic programming (DP), genetic algorithms and particle swarm optimization (PSO). Our approach integrates the merits of both DP and artificial optimization techniques and it has two characteristic features. Firstly, the proposed algorithm converts fuzzy multiobjective optimization problem to a sequence of a crisp nonlinear programming problems. Secondly, the proposed algorithm uses H-SOA for solving nonlinear programming problem. In which, any complex problem under certain structure can be solved and there is no need for the existence of some properties rather than traditional methods that need some features of the problem such as differentiability and continuity. Finally, with different degree of α we get different α-Pareto optimal solution of the problem. A numerical example is given to illustrate the results developed in this paper.  相似文献

本文旨在针对线性比式和规划这一NP-Hard非线性规划问题提出新的全局优化算法.首先,通过引入p个辅助变量把原问题等价的转化为一个非线性规划问题,这个非线性规划问题的目标函数是乘积和的形式并给原问题增加了p个新的非线性约束,再通过构造凸凹包络的技巧对等价问题的目标函数和约束条件进行相应的线性放缩,构成等价问题的一个下界线性松弛规划问题,从而提出了一个求解原问题的分支定界算法,并证明了算法的收敛性.最后,通过数值结果比较表明所提出的算法是可行有效的.  相似文献

We establish the sufficient optimality conditions for a minimax programming problem involving p fractional n-set functions under generalized invexity. Using incomplete Lagrange duality, we formulate a mixed-type dual problem which unifies the Wolfe type dual and Mond-Weir type dual in fractional n-set functions under generalized invexity. Furthermore, we establish three duality theorems: weak, strong, and strict converse duality theorem, and prove that the optimal values of the primal problem and the mixed-type dual problem have no duality gap under extra assumptions in the framework. We give a short proof that in a convex minimax optimization problem ink dimensions there exist a subset ofk + 1 functions such that a solution to the minimax problem with thosek + 1 functions is a solution to the minimax problem with all functions. We show that convexity is necessary, and prove a similar theorem for stationary points when the functions are not necessarily convex but the gradient exists for each function.  相似文献

A new method is used for solving nonlinear multiobjective fractional programming problems having V-invex objective and constraint functions with respect to the same function η. In this approach, an equivalent vector programming problem is constructed by a modification of the objective fractional function in the original nonlinear multiobjective fractional problem. Furthermore, a modified Lagrange function is introduced for a constructed vector optimization problem. By the help of the modified Lagrange function, saddle point results are presented for the original nonlinear fractional programming problem with several ratios. Finally, a Mond-Weir type dual is associated, and weak, strong and converse duality results are established by using the introduced method with a modified function. To obtain these duality results between the original multiobjective fractional programming problem and its original Mond-Weir duals, a modified Mond-Weir vector dual problem with a modified objective function is constructed.  相似文献

This paper introduces an approximate solution for Liouville‐Caputo variable order fractional differential equations with order 0 < α(t) ≤ 1 . The solution is adapted using a family of fractional‐order Chebyshev functions with unknown coefficients. These coefficients have been obtained by using an optimization approach based on minimax technique and the least pth optimization function. Several linear and nonlinear fractional‐order differential equations are discussed using the proposed technique for fixed and variable order fractional‐order derivatives. Moreover, the response of RC charging circuit with variable order fractional capacitor is studied for different cases. Several comparisons with related published techniques have been added to illustrate the accuracy of the proposed approach.  相似文献

Goal programming is a technique often used in engineering design activities primarily to find a compromised solution which will simultaneously satisfy a number of design goals. In solving goal programming problems, classical methods reduce the multiple goal-attainment problem into a single objective of minimizing a weighted sum of deviations from goals. This procedure has a number of known difficulties. First, the obtained solution to the goal programming problem is sensitive to the chosen weight vector. Second, the conversion to a single-objective optimization problem involves additional constraints. Third, since most real-world goal programming problems involve nonlinear criterion functions, the resulting single-objective optimization problem becomes a nonlinear programming problem, which is difficult to solve using classical optimization methods. In tackling nonlinear goal programming problems, although successive linearization techniques have been suggested, they are found to be sensitive to the chosen starting solution. In this paper, we pose the goal programming problem as a multi-objective optimization problem of minimizing deviations from individual goals and then suggest an evolutionary optimization algorithm to find multiple Pareto-optimal solutions of the resulting multi-objective optimization problem. The proposed approach alleviates all the above difficulties. It does not need any weight vector. It eliminates the need of having extra constraints needed with the classical formulations. The proposed approach is also suitable for solving goal programming problems having nonlinear criterion functions and having a non-convex trade-off region. The efficacy of the proposed approach is demonstrated by solving a number of nonlinear goal programming test problems and an engineering design problem. In all problems, multiple solutions (each corresponding to a different weight vector) to the goal programming problem are found in one single simulation run. The results suggest that the proposed approach is an effective and practical tool for solving real-world goal programming problems.  相似文献

Given an algorithm A for solving some mathematical problem based on the iterative solution of simpler subproblems, an outer trust-region (OTR) modification of A is the result of adding a trust-region constraint to each subproblem. The trust-region size is adaptively updated according to the behavior of crucial variables. The new subproblems should not be more complex than the original ones, and the convergence properties of the OTR algorithm should be the same as those of Algorithm A. In the present work, the OTR approach is exploited in connection with the “greediness phenomenon” of nonlinear programming. Convergence results for an OTR version of an augmented Lagrangian method for nonconvex constrained optimization are proved, and numerical experiments are presented.  相似文献

Considering a nonsmooth minimax fractional programming problem involving exponential (p, r)-invexity, we construct a mixed-type dual problem, which is performed by an incomplete Lagrangian dual model. This mixed-type dual model involves the Wolfe type dual and Mond-Weir type dual as the special cases under exponential (p, r)-invexity. We establish the mixed-type duality problem with conditions for exponential (p, r)-invexity and prove that the optimal values of the primary problem and the mixed-type duality problem have no duality gap under the framwork of exponential (p, r)-invexity.  相似文献

The simplex method for linear programming can be extended to permit the minimization of any convex separable piecewise-linear objective, subject to linear constraints. This three-part paper develops and analyzes a general, computationally practical simplex algorithm for piecewiselinear programming.Part I derives and justifies the essential steps of the algorithm, by extension from the simplex method for linear programming in bounded variables. The proof employs familiar finite-termination arguments and established piecewise-linear duality theory.Part II considers the relaxation of technical assumptions pertaining to finiteness, feasibility and nondegeneracy of piecewise-linear programs. Degeneracy is found to have broader consequences than in the linear case, and the standard techniques for prevention of cycling are extended accordingly.Part III analyzes the computational requirements of piecewise-linear programming. The direct approach embodied in the piecewise-linear simplex algorithm is shown to be inherently more efficient than indirect approaches that rely on transformation of piecewise-linear programs to equivalent linear programs. A concluding section surveys the many applications of piecewise-linear programming in linear programming,l 1 estimation, goal programming, interval programming, and nonlinear optimization.This research has been supported in part by the National Science Foundation under grant MCS-8217261.  相似文献

A key algorithmic element of a real-time trajectory optimization hardware/software implementation is presented, the search step solver. This is one piece of an algorithm whose overall goal is to make nonlinear trajectory optimization fast enough to provide real-time commands during guidance of a vehicle such as an aeromaneuvering orbiter or the National Aerospace Plane. Many methods of nonlinear programming require the solution of a quadratic program (QP) at each iteration to determine the search step. In the trajectory optimization case, the QP has a special dynamic programming structure, an LQR-like structure. The algorithm exploits this special structure with a divide-and-conquer type of parallel implementation. A hypercube message-passing parallel machine, the INTEL iPSC/2, has been used. The algorithm solves a (p·N)-stage problem onN processors inO(p + log2 N) operations. The algorithm yields a factor of 8 speed-up over the fastest known serial algorithm when solving a 1024-stage test problem on 32 processors.This research was supported in part by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration under Grant No. NAG-1-1009.  相似文献

Dynamic programming techniques have proven to be more successful than alternative nonlinear programming algorithms for solving many discrete-time optimal control problems. The reason for this is that, because of the stagewise decomposition which characterizes dynamic programming, the computational burden grows approximately linearly with the numbern of decision times, whereas the burden for other methods tends to grow faster (e.g.,n 3 for Newton's method). The idea motivating the present study is that the advantages of dynamic programming can be brought to bear on classical nonlinear programming problems if only they can somehow be rephrased as optimal control problems.As shown herein, it is indeed the case that many prominent problems in the nonlinear programming literature can be viewed as optimal control problems, and for these problems, modern dynamic programming methodology is competitive with respect to processing time. The mechanism behind this success is that such methodology achieves quadratic convergence without requiring solution of large systems of linear equations.  相似文献

This paper represents the second part of a study concerning the so-called G-multiobjective programming. A new approach to duality in differentiable vector optimization problems is presented. The techniques used are based on the results established in the paper: On G-invex multiobjective programming. Part I. Optimality by T.Antczak. In this work, we use a generalization of convexity, namely G-invexity, to prove new duality results for nonlinear differentiable multiobjective programming problems. For such vector optimization problems, a number of new vector duality problems is introduced. The so-called G-Mond–Weir, G-Wolfe and G-mixed dual vector problems to the primal one are defined. Furthermore, various so-called G-duality theorems are proved between the considered differentiable multiobjective programming problem and its nonconvex vector G-dual problems. Some previous duality results for differentiable multiobjective programming problems turn out to be special cases of the results described in the paper.  相似文献
