An experimental investigations of heat transfer for a stationary isothermal circular cylinder exposed normal to an impinging round air-jet has been reported. The circumferential heat transfer distributions as well as axial Nusselt number is measured. The measurements are taken as a function of the Reynolds number ranging from 3.8 × 103 to 4 × 104, the cylinder separation distance to the nozzle diameter (z/d) varying from 7 to 30, and the nozzle to cylinder diameter ratio (d/D) changing from 0.06 to 0.14. The output results indicated that the axial and radial distributions of the local heat transfer peaked at the impingement point. The heat transfer rate increases as the values of z decreases, for the same d and Re. The drop-off of the Nusselt number with increasing axial distance or radial angle from the impingement point was more pronounced for smaller z and d. The peripheral and surface average Nusselt numbers were determined by integration. The experimental data was used to produce correlations for both average and stagnation point heat transfer. We examine the axisymmetric buckling of a generalized Kirchhoff cylindrical shell under an axial wrench. If the shell is non-linear elastic, we provide a boundary value problem amenable to the bifurcation theory of Poincaré. Using this theory we prove a non-uniqueness theorem and obtain the critical loads and critical states. In the hyperelastic case, by exploiting the variational character of the problem, a global existence and non-uniqueness theorem is also proved.
Sommario Viene esaminato un problema di buckling per un guscio cilindrico, del tipo di Kirchhoff generalizzato, sotto un carico ai bordi di trazione-torsione. Nel caso elastico non lineare, si perviene ad un problema ai valori al contorno, cui si può applicare la teoria delle biforcazioni di Poincaré. In tal modo si dimostra un teorema di non unicità della soluzione e si ottengono i punti di biforcazione e i carichi critici. Nel caso iperclastico, facendo ricorso all'aspetto variazionale del problema, viene dimostrato un teorema globale di esistenza e non unicità della soluzione.

The earth is considered as a rigid spherical cavity of radius a filled with a highly viscous incompressible fluid of viscosity η. The non-axisymmetric problem of flow due to a stokeslet of strength F/8πη located at (0, 0, c), c < a with its axis along OX, O being the centre of the sphere, is discussed for small Reynolds numbers. The expressions for velocity and pressure are obtained in terms of A(r, θ, φ) and B(r, θ, φ), biharmonic and harmonic functions respectively, using a sphere theorem for non-axisymmetric flow inside a sphere. The drag on the sphere exerted by the fluid is found to be independent of the location of the stokeslet.  相似文献

Boundary layer analysis is performed for free convection in a fluid-saturated porous medium adjacent to a vertical impermeable wall subjected to a non-uniform heat flux. The wall heat flux is assumed to be an arbitrary function of the distance along the surface. The solutions are obtained in the form of perturbations to the uniform heat flux case. Using the differentials of the wall heat flux, which are functions of the distance along the surface, as perturbation elements, universal functions are obtained. These universal functions can be used to estimate the heat transfer for any type of wall heat flux variation. For the wall heat flux variation as a power function of the distance from the origin, the solutions obtained by using these universal functions have been compared with those obtained by similarity analysis and the agreement is found to be good. Further, solutions are presented for wall heat flux varying exponentially and sinusoidally but comparison could not be drawn due to non-availability of solutions in the literature.  相似文献

Formulas are established for calculating the influx of a substance to the surface of a liquid film on a particle in a laminar flow of an incompressible liquid with small Reynolds numbers. It is assumed that there is complete absorption of the diffusing substance at the surface of the film. An expression derived in [1] is used to solve the problem of the field of the flow velocities. The results obtained generalize expressions for the influx of substance to a drop found in [2].  相似文献

The transfer of a microscopic fluid droplet from a flat surface to a deformable stochastic fibre network is investigated. Fibre networks are generated with different levels of surface roughness, and a two-dimensional, two-phase fluid-structure model is used to simulate the fluid transfer. In simulations, the Navier-Stokes equations and the Cahn-Hilliard phase-field equations are coupled to explicitly include contact line dynamics and free surface dynamics. The compressing fibre network is modelled as moving immersed boundaries. The simulations show that the amount of transferred fluid is approximately proportional to the contact area between the fluid and the fibre network. However, areas where the fluid bridges and never actually makes contact with the substrate must be subtracted.  相似文献

Summary A transition has been displayed in a concentrated solution of a linear chain polymer flowing close to a rotating disk. For a critical angular speed of rotation, a discontinuity of the mass transfer rate by diffusion and convection, as well as the existence of flow birefringence are observed. An analysis is made of the transient free convection from a vertical flat plate which is embedded in a fluid-saturated porous medium. It is assumed that for time a steady state temperature or velocity has been obtained in the boundary-layer which occurs due to a uniform flux dissipation rate . Then at time the heat flux on the plate is suddenly changed to and maintained at this value for 0$$ " align="middle" border="0"> . An analytical solution has been obtained for the temperature/velocity field for small times in which the transport effects are confined within an inner layer adjacent to the plate. These effects cause a new steady boundary layer. A numerical solution of the full boundary-layer equations is then obtained for the whole transient from to the steady state, firstly by means of a step-by-step method and then by a matching technique. The transition between the two distinct solution methods is always observed to occur very near to the turning point of the plate surface temperature, a time at which the fluid temperature is close to its steady state profile. The solution obtained using the step-by-step method shows excellent agreement with the small time analytical solution. Results are presented to illustrate the occurrence of transients from both small and large increases and decreases in the levels of existing energy inputs.  相似文献

The wave processes in a semi-infinite rod located in an elastic medium and subjected to a point load moving at a constant velocity are considered. The system of two differential equations of motion of Timoshenko beam theory is solved using the Laplace transform in time. The integrals obtained are determined numerically. Variation of the bending moment on the longitudinal coordinate behind the elastic-wave front and the region of action of the point force at various times is shown.
