A nonlinear mechanical oscillator is forced with two incommensurate harmonic signals and chaotic vibrations are experimentally observed. The fractal nature of this strange attractor in four-dimensional phase space is revealed by using a double Poincaré section. This section involves a narrow timing pulse on one harmonic driving signal and a wider phase window on the other forcing harmonic signal. The resulting two-dimensional map shows a Cantor set structure characteristic of strange attractors. The transition from quasi-periodic to chaotic vibrations is also observed.  相似文献

In this paper, we perform an analytical and numerical study of the extreme values of specific observables of dynamical systems possessing an invariant singular measure. Such observables are expressed as functions of the distance of the orbit of initial conditions with respect to a given point of the attractor. Using the block maxima approach, we show that the extremes are distributed according to the generalised extreme value distribution, where the parameters can be written as functions of the information dimension of the attractor. The numerical analysis is performed on a few low dimensional maps. For the Cantor ternary set and the Sierpinskij triangle, which can be constructed as iterated function systems, the inferred parameters show a very good agreement with the theoretical values. For strange attractors like those corresponding to the Lozi and He?non maps, a slower convergence to the generalised extreme value distribution is observed. Nevertheless, the results are in good statistical agreement with the theoretical estimates. It is apparent that the analysis of extremes allows for capturing fundamental information of the geometrical structure of the attractor of the underlying dynamical system, the basic reason being that the chosen observables act as magnifying glass in the neighborhood of the point from which the distance is computed.  相似文献

Periodically driven two-dimensional nonlinear oscillators can generate strange attractors that are periodic. These attractors are mapped in a locally 1-1 way to entire families of strange attractors that are indexed by a pair of relatively prime integers (n(1),n(2)), with n(1)>/=1. The integers are introduced by imposing periodic boundary conditions on the entire strange attractor rather than individual trajectories in the attractor. The torsion and energy integrals for members of this two parameter family of locally identical strange attractors depend smoothly on these integers.  相似文献

Ball collisions in milling devices are governed by complex dynamics ruled by impredictable impulsive forces. In this paper, nonlinear dynamics techniques are employed to analyze the time series describing the trajectory of a milling ball in an empty container obtained from a numerical model. The attractor underlying the system dynamics was reconstructed by the time delay method. In order to characterize the system dynamics the calculation of the spectrum of Lyapunov exponents was performed. Six Lyapunov exponents, divided into two terns with opposite sign, were obtained. The detection of the positive tern demonstrates the occurrence of the hyperchaotic qualities of the ball motion. A fractal Lyapunov dimension, equal to 5.62, was also obtained confirming the strange features of the attractor. (c) 1999 American Institute of Physics.  相似文献

In [4] Hénon studied a transformation which maps the plane into itself and appears to have an attractor with locally the structure of a Cantor set cross an interval. By making use of the characteristic exponent, frequency spectrum, and a theorem of Smale, our numerical experiments provide evidence for the existence of two distinct strange attractors for some parameter values, an exponential rate of mixing for the parameter values studied by Hénon, and an argument that there is a Cantor set in the trapping region of Hénon. On leave from the Department of Mathematics, University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado 80309, USAThe National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation  相似文献

We show that dissipative classical dynamics converging to a strange attractor can be simulated on a quantum computer. Such quantum computations allow to investigate efficiently the small scale structure of strange attractors, yielding new information inaccessible to classical computers. This opens new possibilities for quantum simulations of various dissipative processes in nature. Attractors of a special Duffing equation are presented. The paper includes both strange attractors and periodic attractors. Emphasis is placed upon the evolution of an attractor starting from a very simple “thin” shape to a growing complex structure. It is shown that such an evolution is controlled by the exciting frequency. Further, the results indicate for this Duffing equation that complicated strange attractors are related to simple bifurcation behavior and vice versa.  相似文献

There is at present a doubly discrete classification for strange attractors of low dimension, d(L)<3. A branched manifold describes the stretching and squeezing processes that generate the strange attractor, and a basis set of orbits describes the complete set of unstable periodic orbits in the attractor. To this we add a third discrete classification level. Strange attractors are organized by the boundary of an open set surrounding their branched manifold. The boundary is a torus with g holes that is dressed by a surface flow with 2(g-1) singular points. All known strange attractors in R3 are classified by genus, g, and flow type.  相似文献

The instability and the chaotic phenomena in a two-photon laser with injected signal are discussed for the homogeneously broadened single mode ring cavity. The structure of the system's attractors is considered by using the Lyapunov exponents and the Lyapunov dimension. The strange attractors of chaos and superchaos are found. The strange attractor displaying superchaos is not observed in one-photon laser with injected signal.  相似文献

We describe a type of intermittency present in a strange nonchaotic attractor of a quasiperiodically forced system. This has a similar scaling behaviour to the intermittency found in an attractor-merging crisis of chaotic attractors. By studying rational approximations to the irrational forcing we present a reasoning behind this scaling, which also provides insight into the mechanism which creates the strange nonchaotic attractor.  相似文献

A simple three-dimensional time-reversible system of ODEs with quadratic nonlinearities is considered in a recent paper by Sprott (2014). The author finds in this system, that has no equilibria, the coexistence of a strange attractor and invariant tori. The goal of this letter is to justify theoretically the existence of infinite invariant tori and chaotic attractors. For this purpose we embed the original system in a one-parameter family of reversible systems. This allows to demonstrate the presence of a Hopf-zero bifurcation that implies the birth of an elliptic periodic orbit. Thus, the application of the KAM theory guarantees the existence of an extremely complex dynamics with periodic, quasiperiodic and chaotic motions. Our theoretical study is complemented with some numerical results. Several bifurcation diagrams make clear the rich dynamics organized around a so-called noose bifurcation where, among other scenarios, cascades of period-doubling bifurcations also originate chaotic attractors. Moreover, a cross section and other numerical simulations are also presented to illustrate the KAM dynamics exhibited by this system.  相似文献

We discuss strange nonchaotic attractors (SNAs) in addition to chaotic and regular attractors in a quasiperiodically driven system with time delays. A route and the associated mechanism are described for a special type of attractor called strange-nonchaotic-attractor-like (SNA-like) through T2 torus bifurcation. The type of attractor can be observed in large parameter domains and it is easily mistaken for a true SNA judging merely from the phase portrait, power spectrum and the largest Lyapunov exponent. SNA-like attractor is not strange and has no phase sensitivity. Conditions for Neimark-Sacker bifurcation are obtained by theoretical analysis for the unforced system. Complicated and interesting dynamical transitions are investigated among the different tongues.  相似文献

For a dynamical system described by a set of autonomous differential equations, an attractor can be either a point, or a periodic orbit, or even a strange attractor. Recently a new chaotic system with only one parameter has been presented where besides a point attractor and a chaotic attractor, it also has a coexisting attractor limit cycle which makes evident the complexity of such a system. We study using analytic tools the dynamics of such system. We describe its global dynamics near the infinity, and prove that it has no Darboux first integrals.  相似文献

We show that it is possible to devise a large class of skew-product dynamical systems which have strange nonchaotic attractors (SNAs): the dynamics is asymptotically on fractal attractors and the largest Lyapunov exponent is non-positive. Furthermore, we show that quasiperiodic forcing, which has been a hallmark of essentially all hitherto known examples of such dynamics is not necessary for the creation of SNAs.  相似文献

We use the Ulam method to study spectral properties of the Perron-Frobenius operators of dynamical maps in a chaotic regime. For maps with absorption we show numerically that the spectrum is characterized by the fractal Weyl law recently established for nonunitary operators describing poles of quantum chaotic scattering with the Weyl exponent ν = d-1, where d is the fractal dimension of corresponding strange set of trajectories nonescaping in future times. In contrast, for dissipative maps we numerically find the Weyl exponent ν = d/2 where d is the fractal dimension of strange attractor. The Weyl exponent can be also expressed via the relation ν = d0/2 where d0 is the fractal dimension of the invariant sets. We also discuss the properties of eigenvalues and eigenvectors of such operators characterized by the fractal Weyl law.  相似文献

As an important preceding step for the demonstration of an uncharacteristic (q-deformed) statisticalmechanical structure in the dynamics of the Feigenbaum attractor we uncover previously unknown properties of the family of periodic superstable cycles in unimodal maps. Amongst the main novel properties are the following: i) The basins of attraction for the phases of the cycles develop fractal boundaries of increasing complexity as the period-doubling structure advances towards the transition to chaos. ii) The fractal boundaries, formed by the pre-images of the repellor, display hierarchical structures organized according to exponential clusterings that manifest in the dynamics as sensitivity to the final state and transient chaos. iii) There is a functional composition renormalization group (RG) fixed-point map associated with the family of supercycles. iv) This map is given in closed form by the same kind of q-exponential function found for both the pitchfork and tangent bifurcation attractors. v) There is final-stage ultra-fast dynamics towards the attractor, with a sensitivity to initial conditions which decreases as an exponential of an exponential of time. We discuss the relevance of these properties to the comprehension of the discrete scale-invariance features, and to the identification of the statistical-mechanical framework present at the period-doubling transition to chaos. This is the first of three studies (the other two are quoted in the text) which together lead to a definite conclusion about the applicability of q-statistics to the dynamics associated to the Feigenbaum attractor.   相似文献

In this paper, we construct a novel 4D autonomous chaotic system with four cross-product nonlinear terms and five equilibria. The multiple coexisting attractors and the multiscroll attractor of the system are numerically investigated. Research results show that the system has various types of multiple attractors, including three strange attractors with a limit cycle, three limit cycles, two strange attractors with a pair of limit cycles, two coexisting strange attractors. By using the passive control theory, a controller is designed for controlling the chaos of the system. Both analytical and numerical studies verify that the designed controller can suppress chaotic motion and stabilise the system at the origin. Moreover, an electronic circuit is presented for implementing the chaotic system.  相似文献
