A systematic study on the surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) for 3,6‐bi‐2‐pyridyl‐1,2,4,5‐tetrazine (bptz) adsorbed onto citrate‐modified gold nanoparticles (cit‐AuNps) was carried out based on electronic and vibrational spectroscopy and density functional methods. The citrate/bptz exchange was carefully controlled by the stepwise addition of bptz to the cit‐AuNps, inducing flocculation and leading to the rise of a characteristic plasmon coupling band in the visible region. Such stepwise procedure led to a uniform decrease of the citrate SERS signals and to the rise of characteristic peaks of bptz, consistent with surface binding via the N heterocyclic atoms. In contrast, single addition of a large amount of bptz promoted complete aggregation of the nanoparticles, leading to a strong enhancement of the SERS signals. In this case, from the distinct Raman profiles involved, the formation of a new SERS environment became apparent, conjugating the influence of the local hot spots and charge‐transfer (CT) effects. The most strongly enhanced vibrations belong to a1 and b2 representations, and were interpreted in terms of the electromagnetic and the CT mechanisms: the latter involving significant contribution of vibronic coupling in the system. The substrate‐dependent surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) of 4‐aminobenzenethiol (4‐ABT) adsorbed on Au surfaces has been investigated. 4‐ABT is one of the very unique adsorbate molecules whose SERS spectral patterns are known to be noticeably dependent on the relative contribution of chemical enhancement mechanism vs electromagnetic enhancement mechanism. The SERS spectral patterns of 4‐ABT adsorbed on gold substrates with various surface morphology have thus been analyzed in terms of the symmetry types of the vibrational modes. Almost invisibly weak b2 type vibrational bands were observed in the SERS spectra of the 4‐ABT adsorbed on Au colloidal sol nanoparticles or commercially available Au micro‐powders because of the weak contribution of the chemical enhancement. However, greatly enhanced b2 vibrational bands were observed in the spectra of the 4‐ABT molecules adsorbed on the synthesized Au(Zn) sponge or the electrochemically roughened Au(ORC) foil caused by the strong contribution of the chemical enhancement mechanism. FT‐IR and FT‐Raman spectra of methyl(2‐methyl‐4,6–dinitrophenylsulfanyl)ethanoate (MDIE) were recorded and analyzed. Surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectra were recorded in silver colloid and silver electrode. The vibrational wavenumbers were computed using HF/6‐31G* and B3LYP/6‐31G* basis. The data obtained from vibrational wavenumber calculations are used to assign vibrational bands obtained in infrared and Raman spectroscopies as well as in SERS of the studied molecule. The first hyperpolarizability and infrared intensities are reported. The geometrical parameters of the title compound are in agreement with the reported similar derivatives. The presence of new bands at 1045 and 948 cm−1 in the SERS spectrum in silver electrode is related to the change in orientation of the molecule with respect to the metal surface. In silver colloid SERS spectrum, the methyl group attached to the methoxy carbonyl group is close to the metal surface, whereas on silver electrode the methyl group attached to the phenyl ring is close to the metal surface. The normal Raman and surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectra of flavanthrone and indanthrone were obtained at several excitation wavelengths. The spectral assignments were aided by density functional calculations. Since both molecules have very high symmetry (C2h) including a center of inversion, we expect that the modes of u symmetry will be forbidden in the normal Raman spectrum. However, proximity to the surface causes special SERS enhancement of several of the bu modes, along with somewhat weaker enhancement of the au and bg modes. There has been a surge of interest in the surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) of p‐aminothiophenol (PATP), since its SERS spectra are dependent on the measurement conditions. However, there is a dispute over the origin of the so‐called b2 modes in SERS spectrum of PATP recently. Some researchers propose that these bands come from selective chemical enhancement, while others conclude that these bands are due to the ag modes of p,p'‐dimercaptoazobenzene (DMAB) produced from PATP by surface photoreaction. To solve this problem, we have studied the SERS spectra of PATP on Au and Ag nanoparticles by in situ measurement under various conditions. The results proved that the b2 modes are not due to PATP but due to the ag modes of DMAB. The key of the method is to ensure the SERS spectra taken from the same point in reduplicative measurements. The result showed that the stable SERS spectrum of PATP was essentially from DMAB. The reversibility of the PATP SERS spectra in previous studies is due to the variety of the measurement points, which is in nature of different PATP conversions to DMAB under different conditions. The adsorption of 2‐amino‐5‐cyanopyridine (2‐ACP) was investigated in solution at different pH values by i n situ surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy combined with the electrochemical method. The assignments of the main bands were first performed on the basis of the spectral features of similar compounds and with the help of density functional theory calculations. The results revealed that the adsorption and the interfacial structure of 2‐ACP on the Au electrode depended on the applied potential and the pH values of the solution. In the natural solution, 2‐ACP was adsorbed on the surface with a vertical orientation by the CN group from − 0.4 to − 1.0 V, whereas in the − 0.4 to 0.8 V range, the N atom of the pyridine ring was bound to the surface. A transition region for the reorientation of the two adsorption modes was observed from − 0.8 to − 0.4 V. A flat configuration was preferred at an extremely negative potential. A similar surface adsorption behavior was observed in the alkali environment, while the Stark effect slope decreased because of the adsorption of OH. Due to the protonation of N atom in the acidic solution, the potential region for the coexistence of two configurations ranged from − 0.4 to 0.2 V. Additionally, a similar adsorption configuration was proposed on the Au colloids at various pH values. The results revealed that the adsorption behavior became more complex on colloidal surfaces than that on a rigid electrode surface. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We recorded surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectra of metal‐string complexes Co3(dpa)4 Cl2 [di(2‐pyridyl)amido (dpa)], Ni3(dpa)4 Cl2 and the oxidized form of the Ni3 complex to determine their vibrational wavenumbers and to investigate their structures. For SERS measurements these complexes were adsorbed on silver nanoparticles in aqueous solution to eliminate the constraint of a crystal lattice and the complexes remain in thermal equilibrium. From our analysis of the vibrational normal modes we assigned the SERS lines at 242 and 276 cm−1 to Ni3 and Co3 symmetric‐stretching modes of the symmetric form. For Co3 (dpa)4Cl2 a Raman line at 383 cm−1 was assigned to the Co Co stretching mode of the unsymmetric form. The wavenumber of the Ni3 symmetric‐stretching mode of the oxidized form [Ni3(dpa)4]3+ is 274 cm−1, greater than that for neutral Ni3(dpa)4Cl2, in agreement with a prediction of delocalized molecular‐orbital theory that an electron is removed from an antibonding orbital after oxidation. The experimental data show that the SERS technique serves as an excellent tool to observe the variation of metal–metal bonding during an oxidation or reduction reaction. To better understand experimentally observed surface‐enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) adsorbed on nanoscaled silver substrates, a systematic theoretical study was performed by carrying out density functional theory and time‐dependent density functional theory calculations. 2,2′,5,5′‐tetrachlorobiphenyl (PCB52) was chosen as a model molecule of PCBs, and Agn (n = 2, 4, 6, and 10) clusters were used to mimic active sites of substrates. Calculated normal Raman spectra of PCB52–Agn (n = 2, 4, 6, and 10) complexes are analogical in profile to that of isolated PCB52 with only slightly enhanced intensity. In contrast, the corresponding SERS spectra calculated at adopted incident light are strongly enhanced, and the calculated enhancement factors are 104 ~ 105. Thus, the experimentally observed SERS phenomenon of PCBs supported on Ag substrates should correspond to the SERS spectra rather than the normal Raman spectra. The dominant enhancement in Raman intensities origins from the charge transfer resonance enhancement between the molecule and clusters. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Fourier transform infrared (FT‐IR) and FT‐Raman spectra of 4‐ethyl‐N‐(2′‐hydroxy‐5′‐nitrophenyl)benzamide were recorded and analyzed. A surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectrum was recorded in silver colloid. The vibrational wavenumbers and corresponding vibrational assignments were examined theoretically using the Gaussian03 set of quantum chemistry codes. The red shift of the NH stretching wavenumber in the infrared spectrum from the computational wavenumber indicates the weakening of the NH bond resulting in proton transfer to the neighboring oxygen atom. The simultaneous IR and Raman activation of the CO stretching mode gives the charge transfer interaction through a π‐conjugated path. The presence of methyl modes in the SERS spectrum indicates the nearness of the methyl group to the metal surface, which affects the orientation and metal molecule interaction. The first hyperpolarizability and predicted infrared intensities are reported. The calculated first hyperpolarizability is comparable with the reported values of similar derivatives and is an attractive subject for future studies of nonlinear optics. Optimized geometrical parameters of the title compound are in agreement with reported structures. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Adsorption of 4,4′‐thiobisbenzenethiol (4,4′‐TBBT) on a colloidal silver surface and a roughened silver electrode surface was investigated by means of surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) for the first time, which indicates that 4,4′‐TBBT is chemisorbed on the colloidal silver surface as dithiolates by losing two H‐atoms of the S H bond, while as monothiolates on the roughened silver electrode. The different orientations of the molecules on both silver surfaces indicate the different adsorption behaviors of 4,4′‐TBBT in the two systems. It is inferred from the SERS signal that the two aromatic rings in 4,4′‐TBBT molecule are parallel to the colloidal silver surface as seen from the disappearance of νC H band (3054 cm−1), which is a vibrational mode to be used to determine the orientation of a molecule on metals according to the surface selection rule, while on the roughened silver electrode surface they are tilted to the surface as seen from the enhanced signal of νC H. The orientation of the C‐S bond is tilted with respect to the silver surface in both cases as inferred from the strong enhancement of the νC S. SERS spectra of 4,4′‐TBBT on the roughened silver electrode with different applied potentials reveal that the enhancement of 4,4′‐TBBT on the roughened silver electrode surface may be related to the chemical mechanism (CM). More importantly, the adsorption of 4,4′‐TBBT on the silver electrode is expected to be useful to covalently adsorb metal nanoparticles through the free S H bond to form two‐ or three‐ dimensional nanostructures. The applicability of surface‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy is demonstrated to probe the adsorption behavior of individual molecules on a Ag electrode. High‐quality SERS spectra of (R)‐di‐2‐naphthylprolinol (DNP) were obtained from ultradilute solutions (10−12 M ) on the Ag‐nanoparticle‐modified Ag electrode, which is attributed to the high electromagnetic (EM) effect of the SERS‐active system as well as to the strong adsorption and interaction of DNP molecules with Ag. The stable SERS spectra present remarkable potential dependence, which gives evidence for the behavior of individual DNP molecules on the Ag surface. Based on statistical analysis for the probability of DNP molecules located in ‘hot spots’, we propose an SERS mechanism for individual molecules in the electrode system, in combination with the hot‐spot model and orientation of the probe molecules. The electrochemical conversion of CO2 into value‐added products using room temperature ionic liquids as solvent/electrolyte has been proposed as an alternative to minimize the environmental effects of CO2 emissions. A key issue in the design of electrochemical systems for the reduction of CO2 is the in situ identification of intermediate surface species as well as reaction products. Copper electrodes, besides being used as cathodes in the electrochemical reduction of CO2, present surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) when properly activated. In this sense, the electrochemical reduction of CO2 over a copper electrode in the room temperature ionic liquids 1‐n‐butyl‐3‐methyl imidazolium tetrafluoroborate (BMI.BF4) was investigated by cyclic voltammetry and by in situ SERS. The cyclic voltammetries have shown that the presence of CO2 on the BMI.BF4 anticipates the reduction of BMI+ to the corresponding carbene. Fourier‐transform‐SERS spectra excited at 1064 nm and SERS spectra excited at 632.8 nm have shown vibrational signals from adsorbed CO. These SERS results indicated that CO adsorbs on the copper surface at two different surface sites. The observation of a 2275 cm−1 vibration in the SERS spectra also confirmed the presence of chemically adsorbed CO2. Other products of CO2 reduction in BMI.BF4, besides CO, were identified, including BMI carbene and the BMI‐CO2 adduct. The SERS results also suggest that the presence of a thin film of Cu2O on the copper surface anticipates the reduction of CO2 to CO, an important component of syngas. A near‐infrared surface‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy (NIR‐SERS) method was employed for oxyheamoglobin (OxyHb) detection to develop a simple blood test for liver cancer detection. Polyvinyl alcohol protected silver nanofilm (PVA‐Ag nanofilm) used as the NIR‐SERS active substrate to enhance the Raman scattering signals of OxyHb. High quality NIR‐SERS spectrum from OxyHb adsorbed on PVA‐Ag nanofilm can be obtained within 16 s using a portable Raman spectrometer. NIR‐SERS measurements were performed on OxyHb samples of healthy volunteers (control subjects, n = 30), patients (n = 40) with confirmed liver cancer (stage I, II and III) and the liver cancer patients after surgery (n = 30). Meanwhile, the tentative assignments of the Raman bands in the measured NIR‐SERS spectra were performed, and the results suggested cancer specific changes on molecule level, including a decrease in the relative concentrations and the percentage of aromatic amino acids of OxyHb, changes of the vibration modes of the CaHm group and pyrrole ring of OxyHb of liver cancer patients. In this paper, principal component analysis (PCA) combined with independent sample T test analysis of the measured NIR‐SERS spectra separated the spectral features of the two groups into two distinct clusters with the sensitivity of 95.0% and the specificity of 85.7%. Meanwhile, the recovery situations of the liver cancer patients after surgery were also assessed using the method of discriminant analysis‐predicting group membership based on PCA. The results show that 26.7% surgeried liver cancer patients were distinguished as the normal subjects and 63.3% were distinguished into the cancer. Our study demonstrated great potentials for developing NIR‐SERS OxyHb analysis into a novel clinical tool for non‐invasive detection of liver cancers. Silver thiolate is a layered compound with a Raman spectrum that is known to change with time, becoming the same as the surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectrum of the parent thiol molecule adsorbed on Ag nanoparticles. On this basis, the Raman scattering characteristics of silver 4‐aminobenzenethiolate (Ag‐4ABT) compounds were investigated to determine whether certain peaks that are identifiable in the SERS spectrum of 4‐aminobenzenethiol (4‐ABT) but absent in its normal Raman spectrum were also apparent in the Ag salt spectrum. For comparative purposes, the Raman scattering characteristics of silver 4‐dimethylaminobenzenethiolate (Ag‐4MABT) were also examined. Raman spectra acquired while spinning the sample were typified by only a1‐type vibrational bands of Ag‐4ABT and Ag‐4MABT, whereas in the static condition, several non‐a1‐type bands were identified. The spectral patterns acquired in the static condition were similar to the intrinsic SERS spectra of 4‐ABT or 4‐dimethylaminobenzenethiol (4‐MABT) adsorbed on pure Ag nanoparticles. Notably, the CH3 group vibrational bands were observable for Ag‐4MABT irrespective of the sample rotation. In addition, no decrease in intensity during irradiation with a visible laser was observed for any of the bands, suggesting that no chemical conversion actually took place in either 4‐ABT or 4‐MABT. The preponderance of evidence led to the conclusion that the non‐a1‐type bands observable in the SERS spectra must be associated with the chemical enhancement mechanism acting on the Ag nanoparticles. The chemical enhancement effect was more profound at 514.5 nm than at 632.8 nm, and was more favorable for 4‐ABT than 4‐MABT at both wavelengths. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Ethyl carbamate (EC), a potentially toxic compound, is found in alcoholic beverages and fermented foodstuff. A combined experimental and theoretical study of Raman on EC is reported in this work for the first time. The Raman bands observed for EC in solid phase are characteristic for the carbonyl group, C―C, C―H and N―H stretching and deformation vibrations. These spectral features coupled with a pKa study allowed establishing the neutral species of EC present in the aqueous solutions experimentally tested at different concentrations. In addition, by performing a density functional theory study in the gas phase, the calculated geometry, the harmonic vibrational modes, and the Raman scattering activities of EC were found to be in good agreement with our experimental data and helped establish the surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) behavior and EC adsorption geometry on the silver surfaces. The Raman peak at 1006 cm−1, assigned to the υs(CC) + ω(CH) modes, the strongest and best reproducible peak in the SERS spectra, was used for a quantitative evaluation of EC. The limit of detection, which corresponds to a signal‐to‐noise ratio equal to 3, was found to be 2 × 10−7 M (17.8 µg l−1). SERS spectra obtained by using hydroxylamine hydrochloride‐reduced silver nanoparticles provide a fast and reproducible qualitative and quantitative determination of EC in aqueous solution. Vibrational bands of L ‐tryptophan which was adsorbed on Ag nanoparticles (∼10 nm in diameter) have been investigated in the spectral range of 200–1700 cm−1 using surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy. Compared with the normal Raman scattering (NRS) of L ‐tryptophan in either 0.5 M aqueous solution (NRS‐AS) or solid powder (NRS‐SP), the intensified signals by SERS have made the SERS investigation at a lower molecular concentration (5 × 10−4 M ) possible. Ab initio calculations at the B3LYP/6‐311G level have been carried out to predict the optimal structure and vibrational wavenumbers for the zwitterionic form of L ‐tryptophan. Facilitated with the theoretical prediction, the observed vibrational modes of L ‐tryptophan in the NRS‐AS, NRS‐SP, and SERS spectra have been analyzed. In the spectroscopic observations, there are no significant changes for the vibrational bands of the indole ring in either NRS‐AS, NRS‐SP, or SERS. In contrast, spectral intensities involving the vibrations of carboxylate and amino groups are weak in NRS‐AS and NRS‐SP, but strong in SERS. The intensity enhancement in the SERS spectrum can reach 103–104‐fold magnification. On the basis of spectroscopic analysis, the carboxylate and amino groups of L ‐tryptophan are determined to be the preferential terminal groups to attach onto the surfaces of Ag nanoparticles in the SERS measurement. We investigated the interfacial structures of various aromatic (each compound contains one or two phenyls) di‐α‐amino ( L1 – L3 ) and α‐amino‐α‐hydroxyphosphinic ( L4 – L6 ) acids immobilized onto an electrochemically roughened silver electrode surface in an aqueous solution using surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). These structures were compared to those on a colloidal silver surface to determine the relationship between adsorption strength and geometry. The presence of an enhanced ν19a ring band in the SERS spectra of L6 , L2 , and L3 on the electrode indicated that the benzene rings of those molecules interact with the electrode surface through localized CC bond(s). We observed significant band broadening of the benzene ring modes for all α‐hydroxyphosphinic acids on both substrates, except for L1 deposited onto the electrode surface. This suggests the possibility of direct interaction between the ring and Ag, although the benzene ring–surface π overlap is weaker for the colloidal silver than for the Ag electrode. The downward shift in wavenumber and alternations in the enhancement of a ν12 ring band indicate a general increase of tilt angle on both silver substrates in the order L3 < L4 < L5 < L6 . The altered enhancement of the bands due to the vibrations of the  NH2 and O PO fragments, a finding observed on both silver substrates, strongly suggests that the groups interact with different strength and geometry with these substrates. Raman spectra in solid and 1 M solution of L ‐cysteine and surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectra of this molecule in the zwitterionic form, by using colloidal silver nanoparticles, have been recorded. Density functional theory with the B3LYP functional was used for the optimizations of the ground state geometries and simulation of the vibrational spectrum of this amino acid. The SERS spectrum with a large silver cluster as a model metallic surface was simulated for the first time. Taking into account the experimental and calculated Raman and SERS vibrations and the corresponding assignments, as well as a comparison of force constants and geometrical parameters between the free zwitterion cysteine and the one in the presence of the colloidal silver nanoparticles, we can confirm the presence of gauche (PH) and trans (PN) rotamers in the solid state, the formation of a S S bond in the solution state, the dissociation of the peptide bond and mixing of rotamers because of the SERS effect, and the relative importance of the interaction of sulphyldryl, NH3+, and carboxylate groups with the metallic surface. Surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectra of 2‐amino‐5‐nitropyridine (ANP) adsorbed on colloidal silver triangular nanoplates were obtained using samples with different mean sizes and surface plasmon frequencies. The relative SERS enhancement factor for each sample was determined by the analysis of the normalized SERS excitation profiles of ANP vibrational modes for nanoplates in suspension, without aggregation. The SERS profiles are blue‐shifted in relation to the localized surface plasmon peak. The detailed characterization of both morphology and concentration of the samples in addition to a rigorous normalization of the SERS spectra allowed a quantitative correlation between the SERS profiles and the mean size of the nanoplates. This correlation indicated the existence of an optimum size of the nanoplates for maximum Raman enhancement. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Poly(vinylpyrrolidone)‐stabilized silver nanoparticles deposited onto strained‐silicon layers grown on graded Si1−xGex virtual substrates are utilized for selective amplification of the Si–Si vibration mode of strained silicon via surface‐enhanced Raman scattering spectroscopy. This solution‐based technique allows rapid, highly sensitive and accurate characterization of strained silicon whose Raman signal would usually be overshadowed by the underlying bulk SiGe Raman spectra. The analysis was performed on strained silicon samples of thickness 9, 17.5 and 42 nm using a 488 nm Ar+ micro‐Raman excitation source. The quantitative determination of strained‐silicon enhancement factors was also made. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
