The Kac-Wakimoto admissible modules for are studied from the point of view of vertex operator algebras. It is shown that the vertex operator algebra L(l,0) associated to irreducible highest weight modules at admissible level is not rational if l is not a positive integer. However, a suitable change of the Virasoro algebra makes L(l,0) a rational vertex operator algebra whose irreducible modules are exactly these admissible modules for and for which the fusion rules are calculated. It is also shown that the q-dimensions with respect to the new Virasoro algebra are modular functions. Received: 4 April 1996/Accepted: 1 August 1996  相似文献

Irreducible representations of Virasoro-toroidal Lie algebras   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Toroidal Lie algebras and their vertex operator representations were introduced in [MEY] and a class of indecomposable modules were investigated. In this work, we extend the toroidal algebra by the Virasoro algebra thus constructing a semi-direct product algebra containing the toroidal algebra as an ideal and the Virasoro algebra as a subalgebra. With the use of vertex operators and certain oscillator representations of the Virasoro algebra it is proved that the corresponding Fock space gives rise to a class of irreducible modules for the Virasoro-toroidal algebra. To A. In this paper the W-algebra W(2, 2) and its representation theory are studied. It is proved that a simple vertex operator algebra generated by two weight 2 vectors is either a vertex operator algebra associated to an irreducible highest weight W(2, 2)- module or a tensor product of two simple Virasoro vertex operator algebras. Furthermore, we show that any rational, C 2-cofinite and simple vertex operator algebra whose weight 1 subspace is zero, weight 2 subspace is 2-dimensional and with central charge c = 1 is isomorphic to . In this paper, we study McKay’s E 6-observation on the largest Fischer 3-transposition group Fi24. We investigate a vertex operator algebra VF\natural{VF^{\natural}} of central charge 23\frac15{23\frac{1}{5}} on which the Fischer group Fi24 naturally acts. We show that there is a natural correspondence between dihedral subgroups of Fi24 and certain vertex operator subalgebras constructed by the nodes of the affine E 6 diagram by investigating so-called derived Virasoro vectors of central charge 6/7. This allows us to reinterpret McKay’s E 6-observation via the theory of vertex operator algebras.  相似文献

This is the first in a series of papers where we study logarithmic intertwining operators for various vertex subalgebras of Heisenberg and lattice vertex algebras. In this paper we examine logarithmic intertwining operators associated with rank one Heisenberg vertex operator algebra M(1) a , of central charge 1 − 12a 2. We classify these operators in terms of depth and provide explicit constructions in all cases. Our intertwining operators resemble puncture operators appearing in quantum Liouville field theory. Furthermore, for a = 0 we focus on the vertex operator subalgebra L(1, 0) of M(1)0 and obtain logarithmic intertwining operators among indecomposable Virasoro algebra modules. In particular, we construct explicitly a family of hidden logarithmic intertwining operators, i.e., those that operate among two ordinary and one genuine logarithmic L(1, 0)-module.  相似文献

We define the partition and n-point functions for a vertex operator algebra on a genus two Riemann surface formed by sewing two tori together. We obtain closed formulas for the genus two partition function for the Heisenberg free bosonic string and for any pair of simple Heisenberg modules. We prove that the partition function is holomorphic in the sewing parameters on a given suitable domain and describe its modular properties for the Heisenberg and lattice vertex operator algebras and a continuous orbifolding of the rank two fermion vertex operator super algebra. We compute the genus two Heisenberg vector n-point function and show that the Virasoro vector one point function satisfies a genus two Ward identity for these theories.  相似文献

This paper focuses on the connection of holomorphic two-dimensional factorization algebras and vertex algebras which has been made precise in the forthcoming book of Costello–Gwilliam. We provide a construction of the Virasoro vertex algebra starting from a local Lie algebra on the complex plane. Moreover, we discuss an extension of this factorization algebra to a factorization algebra on the category of Riemann surfaces. The factorization homology of this factorization algebra is computed as the correlation functions. We provide an example of how the Virasoro factorization algebra implements conformal symmetry of the beta–gamma system using the method of effective BV quantization.  相似文献

We introduce notions of open-string vertex algebra, conformal open-string vertex algebra and variants of these notions. These are open-string-theoretic, noncommutative generalizations of the notions of vertex algebra and of conformal vertex algebra. Given an open-string vertex algebra, we show that there exists a vertex algebra, which we call the meromorphic center, inside the original algebra such that the original algebra yields a module and also an intertwining operator for the meromorphic center. This result gives us a general method for constructing open-string vertex algebras. Besides obvious examples obtained from associative algebras and vertex (super)algebras, we give a nontrivial example constructed from the minimal model of central charge We establish an equivalence between the associative algebras in the braided tensor category of modules for a suitable vertex operator algebra and the grading-restricted conformal open-string vertex algebras containing a vertex operator algebra isomorphic to the given vertex operator algebra. We also give a geometric and operadic formulation of the notion of grading-restricted conformal open-string vertex algebra, we prove two isomorphism theorems, and in particular, we show that such an algebra gives a projective algebra over what we call the Swiss-cheese partial operad.Acknowledgement. We obtain the quantum group SL q (2) as semi-infinite cohomology of the Virasoro algebra with values in a tensor product of two braided vertex operator algebras with complementary central charges c+[`(c)]=26{c+\bar{c}=26}. Each braided VOA is constructed from the free Fock space realization of the Virasoro algebra with an additional q-deformed harmonic oscillator degree of freedom. The braided VOA structure arises from the theory of local systems over configuration spaces and it yields an associative algebra structure on the cohomology. We explicitly provide the four cohomology classes that serve as the generators of SL q (2) and verify their relations. We also discuss the possible extensions of our construction and its connection to the Liouville model and minimal string theory.  相似文献

Using the central charge of the Virasoro algebra as a clue, we recall the known constructions of theA, D, E algebras and discuss new Bosonic constructions of the non simply laced affine Kac-Moody algebras: the twistedA, D, E and theB, C, F, andG algebras. These involve interacting Fermions and a generalization of the Frenkel-Kac sign operators which do not form a 2-cocycle when the horizontal algebra has more than one short simple root.  相似文献

We give the operadic formulation of (weak, strong) topological vertex algebras, which are variants of topological vertex operator algebras studied recently by Lian and Zuckerman. As an application, we obtain a conceptual and geometric construction of the Batalin-Vilkovisky algebraic structure (or the Gerstenhaber algebra structure) on the cohomology of a topological vertex algebra (or of a weak topological vertex algebra) by combining this operadic formulation with a theorem of Getzler (or of Cohen) which formulates Batalin-Vilkovisky algebras (or Gerstenhaber algebras) in terms of the homology of the framed little disk operad (or of the little disk operad). The author is supported in part by NSF grant DMS-9104519  相似文献

We consider how a vertex operator algebra can be extended to an abelian interwining algebra by a family of weak twisted modules which aresimple currents associated with semisimple weight one primary vectors. In the case that the extension is again a vertex operator algebra, the rationality of the extended algebra is discussed. These results are applied to affine Kac-Moody algebras in order to construct all the simple currents explicitly (except forE 8) and to get various extensions of the vertex operator algebras associated with integrable representations.Supported by NSF grant DMS-9303374 and a research grant from the Committee on Research, UC Santa Cruz.Supported by NSF grant DMS-9401272 and a research grant from the Committee on Research, UC Santa Cruz.  相似文献

In this paper, we list all affine vertex operator algebras of positive integral levels whose dimensions of spaces of characters are at most 5 and show that a basis of the space of characters of each affine vertex operator algebra in the list gives a fundamental system of solutions of a modular linear differential equation. Further, we determine the dimensions of the spaces of characters of affine vertex operator algebras whose numbers of inequivalent simple modules are not exceeding 20.  相似文献

We generalize Feigin and Miwa's construction of extended vertex operator (super)algebras A k (sl(2)) for other types of simple Lie algebras. For all the constructed extended vertex operator (super)algebras, irreducible modules are classified, complete reducibility of every module is proved and fusion rules are determined modulo the fusion rules for vertex operator algebras of affine type. The goal of the present paper is to provide a mathematically rigorous foundation to certain aspects of the theory of rational orbifold models in conformal field theory, in other words the theory of rational vertex operator algebras and their automorphisms. Under a certain finiteness condition on a rational vertex operator algebra V which holds in all known examples, we determine the precise number of g-twisted sectors for any automorphism g of V of finite order. We prove that the trace functions and correlation functions associated with such twisted sectors are holomorphic functions in the upper half-plane and, under suitable conditions, afford a representation of the modular group of the type prescribed in string theory. We establish the rationality of conformal weights and central charge. In addition to conformal field theory itself, where our conclusions are required on physical grounds, there are applications to the generalized Moonshine conjectures of Conway–Norton–Queen and to equivariant elliptic cohomology. In 1993, Lian-Zuckerman constructed two cohomology operations on the BRST complex of a conformal vertex algebra with central charge 26. They gave explicit generators and relations for the cohomology algebra equipped with these operations in the case of the c = 1 model. In this paper, we describe another such example, namely, the semi-infinite Weil complex of the Virasoro algebra. The semi-infinite Weil complex of a tame -graded Lie algebra was defined in 1991 by Feigin-Frenkel, and they computed the linear structure of its cohomology in the case of the Virasoro algebra. We build on this result by giving an explicit generator for each non-zero cohomology class, and describing all algebraic relations in the sense of Lian-Zuckerman, among these generators.  相似文献

In this article, we give a sufficient and necessary condition for the C 2-cofiniteness of \({\widetilde{V} = (V\otimes V)^\sigma}\) for a C 2-cofinite vertex operator algebra V and the 2-cycle permutation σ of \({V\otimes V}\) . As an application, we show that the 2-cycle permutation orbifold model of the simple Virasoro vertex operator algebra L(c, 0) of minimal central charge c is C 2-cofinite.  相似文献
