This study evaluates concentration capability of headspace sorptive extraction (HSSE) and the influence of sampling conditions on HSSE recovery of an analyte. A standard mixture in water of six high-to-medium volatility analytes (isobutyl methyl ketone, 3-hexanol, isoamyl acetate, 1,8-cineole, linalool and carvone) was used to sample the headspace by HSSE with stir bars coated with different polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) volumes (20, 40, 55 and 110 microL, respectively), headspace vial volumes (8, 21.2, 40, 250 and 1000 mL), sampling temperatures (25, 50 and 75 degrees C) and sampling times (30, 60 and 120 min, and 4, 8 and 16 h). The concentration factors (CFs) of HSSE versus static headspace (S-HS) were also determined. Analytes sampled by the PDMS stir bars were recovered by thermal desorption (TDS) and analysed by capillary GC-MS. This study demonstrates how analyte recovery depends on its physico-chemical characteristics and affinity for PDMS (octanol-water partition coefficients), sampling temperatures (50 degrees C) and times (60 min), the volumes of headspace (40 mL) and of PDMS (in particular, for high volatility analytes). HSSE is also shown to be very effective for trace analysis. The HSSE CFs calculated versus S-HS with a 1000 mL headspace volumes at 25 degrees C during 4 h sampling ranged between 10(3) and 10(4) times for all analytes investigated while the limits of quantitation determined under the same conditions were in the nmol/L range.  相似文献

A new sampling technique, Headspace Sorptive Extraction (HSSE), is here applied for the first time to the headspace sampling of medicinal and aromatic plants. The analyte partition coefficient between HSSE‐PDMS stir bar and sample headspace (K1), the concentration factor (CF), the reproducibility, and the minimum recoverable amount were determined by analyzing standard solution of high volatility C5–C7 compounds with different polarities and structures (cyclohexane, propyl acetate, hexanal, 1‐hexen‐3‐ol, isoamyl acetate, and 2‐heptanol). Four aromatic and medicinal plants, viz. rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.), sage (Salvia officinalis L.), thyme (Thymus vulgaris L.), and valerian (Valeriana officinalis L.) were analyzed by HSSE‐GC with PDMS stir bars, and their concentration capacity was compared with those of S‐HS and HS‐SPME with different fibers. HSSE showed very high concentration capability with both standard and real sample components.  相似文献

A novel headspace sorptive extraction (HSSE) using a glass bar coated with carbowax (polyethylene glycol)-polydimethylsiloxane-poly(vinyl alcohol) (CW/PDMS/PVA) prepared by sol-gel technology method was proposed for the determination of volatile organic sulfur compounds (VOSs) in water. After the extraction, the sorptive bar was desorbed with 60 microL of ethanol and 30 microL of the extract was analysed by large volume injection (LVI) into a gas chromatography-flame photometric detector (GC-FPD). The parameters affecting the headspace sorptive extraction of VOSs such as extraction and desorption time, extraction temperature, stirring speed, desorption solvent, headspace phase ratio, salt and pH were carefully investigated and the optimized experimental conditions were established. The limits of detection (LODs) for the studied VOSs ranged from 0.04 to 4.8 microg/L with the relative standard deviations (RSDs) ranging from 4.5 to 10.2% (n=6). The reproducibility for the preparation of CW/PDMS/PVA-coated sorptive bar ranged from 3.2 to 9.2% in one batch, and from 2.8 to 18.5% in batch-to-batch, and more than 50 extractions can be achieved without apparent loss. The proposed method was compared with polydimethylsiloxane-HSSE and carboxen/PDMS-headspace-solid phase microextraction (CAR/PDMS-HS-SPME) under their optimum conditions, CW/PDMS/PVA-HSSE shows the highest adsorption capacity (larger surface area and more active sites), the highest sensitivity (about 10 times) and the best polarity matching for VOSs.  相似文献

Dual phase twisters (DP twisters), consisting of a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) outer coating and a second complementary (ad)sorbent as inner packing, have recently been shown to extend the applicability of headspace sorptive extraction (HSSE). In comparison to HSSE using PDMS only, the recovery of analytes from the headspace of a solid or liquid matrix is increased by combining the concentration capabilities of two sampling materials operating on different mechanisms (sorption and adsorption). This study compares the performance of DP twisters consisting of different PDMS outer coatings and different packing materials, including Tenax GC, a bisphenol-PDMS copolymer, Carbopack coated with 5% of Carbowax and beta-cyclodextrin, for the analysis of the headspace of roasted Arabica coffee, dried sage leaves and an aqueous test mixture containing compounds with different water solubility, acidity, polarity and volatility as test samples. In general, DP twisters showed a higher concentration capability than the corresponding conventional PDMS twisters for the analytes considered. The highest recoveries were obtained with DP twisters consisting of 0.2mm thick PDMS coating combined with Tenax GC, a bisphenol-PDMS copolymer and Carbopack coated with 5% of Carbowax as inner adsorption phase.  相似文献

A methodology to analyze organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) in water samples has been accomplished by using headspace stir bar sorptive extraction (HS-SBSE). The bars were in house coated with a thick film of PDMS in order to properly work in the headspace mode. Sampling was done by a novel HS-SBSE system whereas the analysis was performed by capillary GC coupled mass spectrometric detection (HS-SBSE-GC-MS). The extraction optimization, using different experimental parameters has been established by a standard equilibrium time of 120 min at 85 degrees C. A mixture of ACN/toluene as back extraction solvent promoted a good performance to remove the OCPs sorbed in the bar. Reproducibility between 2.1 and 14.8% and linearity between 0.96 and 1.0 were obtained for pesticides spiked in a linear range between 5 and 17 ng/g in water samples during the bar evaluation.  相似文献

Sorptive tape extraction (STE) is a recent sorption-based sampling technique in which a flexible polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) tape is used to recover analytes at the surface of a solid matrix by direct contact as well as from the headspace in equilibrium with it. Solutes thus enriched on the inert PDMS material can be recovered either by solvent desorption or by thermo-desorption. The concentration capability of both direct contact and headspace STE was evaluated by sampling (a) aromatic plants to study the reaction of a vegetable matrix submitted to stress, and (b) fruits at the surface of the pulp or inside the pulp; the composition of the volatile fraction released from the skin when a perfume is sprayed on the back of the hand was also studied. The concentration capability of direct contact and headspace STE was compared to that of HSSE with a 20 microL PDMS twister and HS-SPME with a PDMS 100 microm fibre, by determining the relative abundances (RA) of the characterizing components of the aromatic plants under investigation. Repeatability and influence of tape surface on STE recovery were also evaluated.  相似文献

A sol-gel technique was used for the preparation of a stir bar coated with a composite composed of polydimethysiloxane and beta-cyclodextrin (PDMS/beta-CD). The sol-gel mechanism during coating procedure was discussed and successful binding of beta-CD to the sol-gel network was confirmed by the IR spectra. Scanning electron micrographs of the stir bars revealed a homogeneous surface with a film thickness of 30-150 microm attributing to different coating times. Good thermal stability and solvent-resistance of the stir bar were found thanks to chemical binding formed between the stationary phase and the glass substrate. The PDMS/beta-CD coated stir bar was proved to have better selectivity to polar compounds compared to the PDMS coated stir bar, and higher extraction capacity compared to the corresponding PDMS/beta-CD coated fiber. Methods for the determinations of estrogens in environmental water, bisphenol A in drinking water and in leachate of one-off dishware by the PDMS/beta-CD coated stir bar coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) were developed. The limits of detection were within the range of 0.04-0.11 microg l(-1) for estrogens using UV detection and 8 ngl(-1) for bisphenol A using fluorescence detection. Reproducibility with RSD less than 9.7% for extractions of real water samples at microg l(-1) or ngl(-1) level was obtained.  相似文献

A spiral stir bar was proposed by using stainless steel spring as the extraction phase carrier to avoid the extraction phase friction and increase the amount of extraction phase for improving extraction efficiency. The extraction phase is filled in the cavity of the spring, resulting in a larger amount of the extraction phase than that conventionally coated on glass stir bar or stainless steel wire. Polyaniline‐polydimethylsiloxane sol‐gel packed spiral stir bar was prepared and evaluated for the extraction of five estrogens. The prepared spiral stir bar presented good extraction efficiency/preparation reproducibility and long lifetime (more than 150 reused times) for target estrogens. Based on it, a method of spiral stir bar sorptive extraction combined with high performance liquid chromatography coupled with ultra‐violet detection was developed for the analysis of trace estrogens in environmental and food samples. The detection limit for five estrogens was 0.11–.31 µg/L, with the enrichment factors of 83.0–118‐fold (maximal enrichment factor: 200‐fold). The reproducibility evaluated with each estrogen of 5 µg/L (n = 5) was 5.8–8.9%. The method was successfully applied for the determination of estrogens in environmental water and animal‐derived food samples.  相似文献

Blended Scotch whisky was analysed by solid-phase microextraction (SPME) and stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) to study the composition of the volatiles. For SPME analysis, three different fibres were compared, poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) (100 microm). poly(acrylate) (PA) (85 microm) and divinylbenzene-Carboxen on poly(dimethylsiloxane) (DVB-CAR-(PDMS) (50/30 microm). It was found that the PDMS and DVB-CAR-PDMS fibres showed a higher enrichment capacity than PA as well as a better reproducibility. The influence of sampling time, temperature and salt addition on the enrichment of volatiles as well as the difference between liquid and headspace SPME were studied. An optimum SPME method was developed. Finally a more recent sample preparation technique, namely SBSE was evaluated to extract whisky volatiles.  相似文献

Stir‐bar sorptive extraction is based on the partitioning of target analytes between the sample (mostly aqueous‐based liquid samples) and a stationary phase‐coated magnetic stir bar. Until now, only PDMS‐coated stir bars are commercially available, restricting the range of applications to the non‐selective extraction of hydrophobic compounds due to the apolar character of PDMS. In this work, a novel stir bar coated with molecularly imprinted polymer as selective extraction phase for sorptive extraction of thiabendazole (TBZ) was developed. Two different procedures, based on physical or chemical coating, were assessed for the preparation of molecularly imprinted stir bars. Under optimum conditions, recoveries achieved both in imprinted and non‐imprinted polymer stir bars obtained by physical coating were very low, whereas TBZ was favourably retained by imprinted over non‐imprinted polymer stir bars obtained by chemical coating and thus the latter approach was used in further studies. Different parameters affecting both stir‐bars preparation (i.e. cross‐linker, porogen, polymerization time) and the subsequent selective extraction of TBZ (i.e. washing, loading and elution solvents, extraction time) were properly optimized. The molecularly imprinted coated stir bars were applied to the extraction of TBZ from citrus samples (orange, lemon and citrus juices) allowing its final determination at concentrations levels according to current regulations.  相似文献

A new sample preparation method, stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE), has been evaluated for the enrichment of organic solutes from biological fluids such as urine and blood. In SBSE, a stir bar coated with a polydimethylsiloxane layer is stirred for a given time in the sample. After sampling the stir bar is placed in a thermal desorption unit coupled on-line to capillary gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (SBSE-TD-CGC-MS). The principle and operation of SBSE are presented. Total profiling and target compound analysis have been selected as applications to illustrate the performance of SBSE-TD-CGC-MS (MSD). It is demonstrated that a variety analytes ranging from biological markers (phenols, hormones, fatty acids) to artificial contaminants (recreational drugs, plasticizers) can be enriched with high sensitivity. For polar solutes, in-situ derivatization can enhance both recovery into the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) layer and chromatographic analysis. Two types of derivatization have been applied, derivatization with ethyl chloroformate and with acetic acid anhydride. Linearity, detectability, and repeatability are illustrated by the determination of 1-hydroxypyrene in a urine sample from a smoker.  相似文献

The suitability of an inexpensive polydimethysiloxane (PDMS) sorbent, produced on an industrial scale, for the extraction of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), from tetra- to hexabrominated congeners, from water samples was assessed. Experiments were carried out using samples spiked with a pentabromo diphenyl ether (pentaBDE) mixture, PDMS rods with a diameter of 2 mm and gas chromatography with micro-electron-capture detection (GC-micro-ECD). Influence of several variables on the efficiency of the enrichment step and the further desorption of the analytes was investigated in detail. The best performance was achieved in the headspace sorptive extraction (HSSE) mode, at 95 degrees C, using 80 mL water samples containing a 30% of sodium chloride. Extractions were performed overnight using disposable PDMS rods with a length of 10 mm (31 microL volume). Analytes were further recovered from the PDMS sorbent using just 1 mL of diethyl ether. This solvent was evaporated and extracts reconstituted with 25 microL of isooctane. Under final working conditions absolute extraction efficiencies from 69 to 93% and enrichment factors higher than 2200 folds were achieved for all species. The proposed method provided acceptable precisions (relative standard deviations values under 12%), correlation coefficients higher than 0.998 and the yield of the HSSE process remained constant for different water samples.  相似文献

An organic-inorganic hybrid titania-hydroxy-terminated silicone oil (titania-OH-TSO) stir bar coating was prepared by sol-gel method. The extraction performance of titania-OH-TSO coated stir bar was evaluated and compared with poly(dimethysiloxane) (PDMS), poly(dimethysiloxane)-divinylbenzene (PDMS-DVB), poly(dimethysiloxane)-β-cyclodextrin (PDMS-β-CD) and C(18) coated stir bar with five polar drugs of abuse including amphetamine (PA), methamphetamine (MA), 3,4-methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA), 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) and ketamine (Ke) as the model analytes. The experimental results revealed that the titania-OH-TSO coated stir bar exhibited highly pH-resistant ability, good preparation reproducibility, superior selectivity and high extraction efficiency for the target compounds. Based on this fact, a new method of titania-OH-TSO coated stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) combined with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)-ultraviolet visible (UV) detection was developed for the analysis of five drugs of abuse in urine samples. The factors affecting the extraction efficiency of SBSE such as sample pH, desorption solvent, sample volume, extraction time, desorption time, stirring rate and ionic strength were investigated and the optimal extraction conditions were established. Under the optimized conditions, the limits of detection (LODs) for titania-OH-TSO coated SBSE-HPLC-UV determination of five polar drugs of abuse were in the range of 2.3-9.1 μg/L with relative standard deviations (RSDs) ranging from 7.3 to 8.9% (c=300 μg/L, n=6), and all of the target compounds exhibited good linearity over a concentration range of 30-3000 μg/L. The developed method was applied to the determination of amphetamines and Ke in urine samples of drug abusers with satisfactory results.  相似文献

A PDMS/poly(vinylalcohol) (PDMS/PVA) film prepared through a sol–gel process was coated on stir bars for sorptive extraction, followed by liquid desorption and large volume injection–GC–flame photometric detector (LVI–GC–FPD) for the determination of five organophosphorus pesticides (OPPs) (phorate, fenitrothion, malathion, parathion, and quinalphos) in honey. The preparation reproducibility of PDMS/PVA‐coated stir bar ranged from 4.3 to 13.4% (n = 4) in one batch, and from 6.0 to 12.6% (n = 4) in batch to batch. And one prepared stir bar can be used for more than 50 times without apparent coating loss. The significant parameters affecting stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) were investigated and optimized. The LODs for five OPPs ranged from 0.013 (parathion) to 0.081 μg/L (phorate) with the RSDs ranging from 5.3 to 14.2% (c = 1 μg/L, n = 6). The proposed method was successfully applied to the analysis of five OPPs in honey.  相似文献

A simple and highly sensitive method called stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) and thermal desorption (TD)-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), which is used for the determination of trace amounts of 5-chloro-2-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)phenol (triclosan) in river water samples, is described. A stir bar coated with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is added to a 10mL water sample and stirring is carried out for 120min at room temperature (25 degrees C) in a vial. Then, the PDMS stir bar is subjected to TD-GC-MS. The detection limit of triclosan is 5ngL(-1) (ppt). The method shows linearity over the calibration range (0.02-20mugL(-1)) and the correlation coefficient is higher than 0.997 for triclosan standard solution. The recovery of triclosan in river water samples ranges from 91.9 to 108.3% (RSD: 4.0-7.0%). This simple, accurate, sensitive, and selective analytical method may be used in the determination of trace amounts of triclosan in river water samples.  相似文献

The new solvent-free technique called headspace sorptive extraction (HSSE) was used to determine 2,4,6-trichlorophenol, 2,3,4,6-tetrachlorophenol, 2,4,6-trichloroanisole, 2,3,4,6-tetrachloroanisole, 2,4,6-tribromoanisole, pentachloroanisole in cork stoppers, without grinding them, as these may be responsible for the cork taint off-flavour in wine. The best HSSE sorption kinetics for the target analytes were obtained after submitting the spiked corks to 100 degrees C for 1h, followed by a 30 min stabilization time at room temperature. The stir bar was desorbed in a thermal desorption system coupled to a gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer. The method proposed showed good linearity over the concentration range tested, 1-70 ngg(-1), and correlation coefficients ranged from 0.90 to 0.99 for all the analytes. The reproducibility and repeatability of the method were estimated between 4.91 and 12.67%. The effect of the different cork matrixes on the extraction recovery of the target compounds was studied, with the natural corks showing the higher recovery percentage in relation to agglomerate ones.  相似文献

Automated methods of PDMS/β‐CD/divinylbenzene‐coated stir plate sorptive extraction (SPSE) coupled to HPLC‐fluorescence detector were reported for the first time. Three automation modes, static SPSE, circular flow SPSE and continuous flow SPSE, were evaluated and critically compared with stir bar sorptive extraction by using six polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons as model analytes. It was found that the operable sample volume for circular flow SPSE and continuous flow SPSE was larger than that for static SPSE. Under the same extraction conditions, continuous flow SPSE exhibited the highest extraction efficiencies in all automated modes and manual stir bar sorptive extraction for the target compounds. Compared with the manual operation (approximately 5–10 min), automated SPSE required a relatively short time (117–180 s) to finish sampling, washing and sample loading. Besides being labor‐saving and time‐saving, automated SPSE has other advantages, such as no time limit and non‐attended operation. The proposed continuous flow PDMS/β‐CD/divinylbenzene‐coated SPSE‐HPLC‐fluorescence detector was successfully applied to environmental water analysis.  相似文献

Because taste and odor events in drinking water are often fleeting and unpredictable phenomena, an innovative enrichment sampler has been developed to trap off-flavor compounds directly at the consumer's tap. The ARISTOT (Advanced Relevant Investigation Sampler for Taste & Odor at Tap) consists of a tap adapter in which seven polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) coated stir bars are placed, allowing the stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) of organic compounds during each tap opening. In order to study the efficiency of ARISTOT, a private network pilot unit has been constructed in our laboratory, equipped with four faucets in parallel, solenoid valves for an automation of the system and a mixing chamber to spike drinking water with odorous compounds in order to have homogenously smelling water at each tap. After enrichment, the stir bars are taken out, in-line thermo-desorbed and analyzed by gas chromatography coupled with a mass spectrometer. The results showed the high sensitivity of ARISTOT, which was able to quickly monitor odorous compounds at the sub ng/L level. A “multishot” method was developed to analyze chemicals concentrated on the seven stir bars in only one chromatographic run, thereby increasing the sensitivity of the system. Higher enrichment factors were obtained under low water flow rates or by using longer stir bars and/or stir bars with a higher PDMS film thickness. No significant loss of extracted compounds was reported for flow rates between 2 and 4 L/min. This allowed us to spike the stir bars with an internal standard prior to sampling in order to monitor the analytical variations. It was also observed that hot water increases the loss of enriched solutes but the quantification can be corrected by internal standard addition.  相似文献

A novel poly(phthalazine ether sulfone ketone) (PPESK) film prepared by immersion precipitation technique was coated on stir bars for sorptive extraction. Scanning electron micrographs showed that the coating has a denser porous surface (about 1 microm in thickness) with a sponge-like sublayer, and the thickness of the coating was 250 microm. The PPESK coated stir bar has high thermostability (290 degrees C) and long lifetime (50 times). The extraction properties of this stir bar were evaluated for the extraction of both polar and semi-polar analytes, including organochlorine compounds and organophosphorus pesticides. The PPESK stir bar was proved to show higher affinity towards polar compounds than that of PDMS coated stir bar and higher sample load compared with corresponding PPESK fiber. It was applied to the determination of organochlorine compounds in seawater samples and organophosphorus pesticides in juices by gas chromatographic analysis. The effect of sample matrix was evaluated at optimized condition of extraction temperature, extraction time and salt concentration. Limits of detection were in the range of 0.05-2.53 ng L(-1) for organochlorine compounds in seawater samples using electron capture detector (ECD), with precisions of less than 11% RSD. Limits of detection for organophosphorus pesticides were in the range of 0.17-2.25 ng L(-1) and 2.47-10.3 ng L(-1) in grape and peach juice, respectively, using thermionic specified detector (TSD), with precisions of less than 12% RSD and 20% RSD, respectively.  相似文献
