The Cahn-Hilliard equation is modeled to describe the dynamics of phase separation in glass and polymer systems. A priori error estimates for the Cahn-Hilliard equation have been studied by the authors. In order to control accuracy of approximate solutions, a posteriori error estimation of the Cahn-Hilliard equation is obtained by discontinuous Galerkin method.  相似文献

We study the structure of diffusive layers in solutions of unstable nonlinear diffusion equations. These equations are regularizations of the forward-backward heat equation and have diffusion coefficients that become negative. Such models include the Cahn-Hilliard equation and the pseudoparabolic viscous diffusion equation. Using singular perturbation methods we show that the balance between diffusion and higher-order regularization terms uniquely determines the interface structure in these equations. It is shown that the well-known “equal area” rule for the Cahn-Hilliard equation is a special case of a more general rule for shock construction in the viscous Cahn-Hilliard equation.  相似文献

The Cahn-Hilliard equation has its origin in material sciences and serves as a model for phase separation and phase coarsening in binary alloys. A new approach in the class of fourth order inpainting algorithms is inpainting of binary images using the Cahn-Hilliard equation. Like solutions of the Cahn-Hilliard equation converging to two main values during the phase separation process, the grayvalues inside the missing part of the image are oriented towards the binary states black and white. We present stability/instability results for solutions of the Cahn-Hilliard equation and their connection to the Willmore functional. In particular we will consider the Willmore functional as a quantity to find the optimal scale of the inpainting result. (© 2008 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

This paper is concerned with a popular form of Cahn-Hilliard equation which plays an important role in understanding the evolution of phase separation. We get the existence and regularity of a weak solution to nonlinear parabolic, fourth order Cahn-Hilliard equation with degenerate mobility M(u)=um(1-u)m which is allowed to vanish at 0 and 1. The existence and regularity of weak solutions to the degenerate Cahn-Hilliard equation are obtained by getting the limits of Cahn-Hilliard equation with non-degenerate mobility. We explore the initial value problem with compact support and obtain the local non-negative result. Further, the above derivation process is also suitable for the viscous Cahn-Hilliard equation with degenerate mobility.  相似文献

Analytical solutions for the viscous Cahn-Hilliard equation are considered. Existence and uniqueness of the solution are shown. The exponential decay of the solution inH 2-norm, which is an improvement of the result in Elliott and Zheng[5]. We also compare the early stages of evolution of the viscous Cahn-Hilliard equation with that of the Cahn-Hilliard equation, which has been given as an open question in Novick-Cohen[8].  相似文献

Numerical solutions for the viscous Cahn-Hilliard equation are considered using the crank-Nicolson type finite difference method which conserves the mass. The corresponding stability and error analysis of the scheme are shown. The decay speeds of the solution inH 1-norm are shown. We also compare the evolution of the viscous Cahn-Hilliard equation with that of the Cahn-Hilliard equation numerically and computationally, which has been given as an open question in Novick-Cohen[13].  相似文献

In this paper we consider the initial boundary value problem of Cahn-Hilliard equation with concentration dependent mobility and gradient dependent potential. By the L~P type estimates and the theory of Morrey spaces,we prove the Holder continuity of the solutions. Then we obtain the existence of global classical solutions. The present work can be viewed as an extension to the previous work on the Cahn-Hilliard equation with concentration dependent mobility and potential.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the viscous Cahn-Hilliard equation, which arises in the dynamics of viscous first order phase transitions in cooling binary solutions. The optimal control under boundary condition is given and the existence of optimal solution to the equation is proved.  相似文献

The Cahn-Hilliard equation is a fourth-order parabolic partial differential equation that is one of the leading models for the study of phase separation in isothermal, isotropic, binary mixtures, such as molten alloys. When a spatially homogeneous alloy is rapidly quenched in a physical experiment, a fine-grained decomposition into two distinct phases is frequently observed; this phenomenon is known as spinodal decomposition. A simple linear analysis about an unstable homogeneous equilibrium of the one-dimensional Cahn-Hilliard equation gives heuristic evidence that most solutions that start with initial data near such an equilibrium exhibit a behavior corresponding to spinodal decomposition. In this paper we formulate this conjecture in a mathematically precise way, using geometric and measure-theoretic techniques, and prove its validity. We believe that this is the first rigorous treatment of this phenomenon.  相似文献

In this study, we investigate the effect of space dimensions on the equilibrium solutions of the Cahn-Hilliard (CH) and conservative Allen-Cahn (CAC) equations in one, two, and three dimensions. The CH and CAC equations are fourth-order parabolic partial and second-order integro-partial differential equations, respectively. The former is used to model phase separation in binary mixtures, and the latter is used to model mean curvature flow with conserved mass. Both equations have been used for modeling various interface problems. To study the space-dimension effect on both the equations, we consider the equilibrium solution profiles for symmetric, radially symmetric, and spherically symmetric drop shapes. We highlight the different dynamics obtained from the CH and CAC equations. In particular, we find that there is a large difference between the solutions obtained from these equations in three-dimensional space.  相似文献

We study the existence, uniqueness and continuous dependence on initial data of the solution for a nonlocal Cahn-Hilliard equation with Dirichlet boundary condition on a bounded domain. Under a nondegeneracy assumption the solutions are classical but when this is relaxed, the equation is satisfied in a weak sense. Also we prove that there exists a global attractor in some metric space.  相似文献

The Cahn-Hilliard equation has its origin in material sciences and serves as a model for phase separation and phase coarsening in binary alloys. A new approach in the class of fourth order inpainting algorithms is inpainting of binary images using the Cahn-Hilliard equation. We will present a generalization of this fourth order approach for grayvalue images. This is realized by using subgradients of the total variation functional within the flow, which leads to structure inpainting with smooth curvature of level sets. We will present some numerical examples for this approach and analytic results concerning existence and convergence of solutions. (© 2008 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

In this paper, we study the regularity of solutions for two-dimensional Cahn-Hilliard equation with non-constant mobility. Basing on the L^p type estimates and Schauder type estimates, we prove the global existence of classical solutions.  相似文献

Analytical solutions for the Cahn-Hilliard initial value problem are obtained through an application of the homotopy analysis method. While there exist numerical results in the literature for the Cahn-Hilliard equation, a nonlinear partial differential equation, the present results are completely analytical. In order to obtain accurate approximate analytical solutions, we consider multiple auxiliary linear operators, in order to find the best operator which permits accuracy after relatively few terms are calculated. We also select the convergence control parameter optimally, through the construction of an optimal control problem for the minimization of the accumulated L 2-norm of the residual errors. In this way, we obtain optimal homotopy analysis solutions for this complicated nonlinear initial value problem. A variety of initial conditions are selected, in order to fully demonstrate the range of solutions possible.  相似文献

This article is devoted to the discussion of large time behaviour of solutions for viscous Cahn-Hilliard equation with spatial dimension n 〈 5. Some results on global existence of weak solutions for small initial value and blow-up of solutions for any nontrivial initial value are established.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the existence of weak solutions for the convective Cahn-Hilliard equation with degenerate mobility. Based on the Schauder type estimates, we establish the global existence of classical solutions for regularized problems. After establishing some necessary uniform estimates on the approximate solutions, we prove the existence of weak solutions. The nonnegativity and the finite speed of propagation of perturbations of solutions are also discussed.

An efficient semi-implicit spectral method is implemented to solve the Cahn-Hilliard equation with a variable mobility in this paper. We compared the kinetics of bulk-diffusion-dominated and interface-diffusion-dominated coarsening in two-phase systems. As expected, the interface-diffusion-controlled coarsening evolves much slower. Also we find that the velocity field will be caused different greatly by using Singular Cahn-Hilliard equation and using Cahn-Hilliard in the simulation of immiscible binary fluids.  相似文献

We construct special sequences of solutions to a fourth order nonlinear parabolic equation of Cahn-Hilliard/Allen-Cahn type, converging to the second order Allen-Cahn equation. We consider the evolution equation without boundary, as well as the stationary case on domains with Dirichlet boundary conditions. The proofs exploit the equivalence of the fourth order equation with a system of two second order elliptic equations with “good signs”.  相似文献

Existence and uniqueness of solutions for nonlocal Cahn-Hilliard equations with degenerate potential is shown. The nonlocality is described by means of a symmetric singular kernel not falling within the framework of any previous existence theory. A convection term is also taken into account. Building upon this novel existence result, we prove convergence of solutions for this class of nonlocal Cahn-Hilliard equations to their local counterparts, as the nonlocal convolution kernels approximate a Dirac delta. Eventually, we show that, under suitable assumptions on the data, the solutions to the nonlocal Cahn-Hilliard equations exhibit further regularity, and the nonlocal-to-local convergence is verified in a stronger topology.  相似文献
