We study nonlinear Schrödinger equations, posed on a three dimensional Riemannian manifold M. We prove global existence of strong H1 solutions on M=S3 and M=S2×S1 as far as the nonlinearity is defocusing and sub-quintic and thus we extend results of Ginibre, Velo and Bourgain who treated the cases of the Euclidean space R3 and the torus T3=R3/Z3 respectively. The main ingredient in our argument is a new set of multilinear estimates for spherical harmonics.  相似文献

The nullity of a minimal submanifold MSn is the dimension of the nullspace of the second variation of the area functional. That space contains as a subspace the effect of the group of rigid motions SO(n+1) of the ambient space, modulo those motions which preserve M, whose dimension is the Killing nullitykn(M) of M. In the case of 2-dimensional tori M in S3, there is an additional naturally-defined 2-dimensional subspace that contributes to the nullity; the dimension of the sum of the action of the rigid motions and this space is the natural nullitynnt(M). In this paper we will study minimal tori in S3 with natural nullity less than 8. We construct minimal immersions of the plane R2 in S3 that contain all possible examples of tori with nnt(M)<8. We prove that the examples of Lawson and Hsiang with kn(M)=5 also have nnt(M)=5, and we prove that if the nnt(M)?6 then the group of isometries of M is not trivial.  相似文献

Patroids     
A matroid M over a set E of elements is semiseparated by a partition {S1, S2} of E iff rank E = rank S1 + rank S2 + 1. Such a semiseparation defines in each Si a pair of matroids or patroid Pi = (Mi, mi); the two patroids P1, P2 weld to form M. The operations of removing and contracting a non-degenerate element of a matroid produce a patroid. The properties of patroids, their bases, and circuits are discussed.  相似文献

A closed topological n-manifold M n is of S 1-category 2 if it can be covered by two open subsets W 1, W 2 such that the inclusions W i M n factor homotopically through maps W i S 1. We show that for n?>?3, if ${{\rm cat}_{S^1}(M^n )=2}$ then M n is homeomorphic to S n or S n–1 × S 1 or the non-orientable S n–1-bundle over S 1. We also obtain an unknotting theorem for locally flat knots of S n–2 in S n and a characterization of S 1S n–1.  相似文献

Let M be a manifold modeled on a locally convex linear metric space EEω (or ≌Eωf and N a Z-submanifold of M. Then N is collared in M. In this paper, we study the following problem [1, 3]: Under what conditions can M be embedded in E so that N is the topological boundary of M in E? We gain a more mild sufficient condition than the previous papers [7, 8] and a necessary and sufficient condition in the case M has the homotopy type of Sn (and each component of N is simply connected if n?2) and in the case N has the homotopy type of Sn (n?2). Also we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition under which M can be embedded in E so that bd M = N and cl(E\M) has the homotopy type of Sn (we assume that M and N are simply connected if n ? 2).  相似文献

For a Lagrangian submanifold M of S 6 with nearly Kaehler structure, we provide conditions for a canonically induced almost contact metric structure on M by a unit vector field, to be Sasakian. Assuming M contact metric, we show that it is Sasakian if and only if the second fundamental form annihilates the Reeb vector field ξ, furthermore, if the Sasakian submanifold M is parallel along ξ, then it is the totally geodesic 3-sphere. We conclude with a condition that reduces the normal canonical almost contact metric structure on M to Sasakian or cosymplectic structure.  相似文献

We construct some complete Spin(7)-holonomy Riemannian metrics on the noncompact orbifolds that are ?4-bundles with an arbitrary 3-Sasakian spherical fiber M. We prove the existence of the smooth metrics for M = S 7 and M = SU(3)/U(1) which were found earlier only numerically.  相似文献

Suppose M is a C real k-dimensional CR-submanifold of Cn, n > 1, and suppose that ??t6M is the tangential Cauchy-Riemann operator on M. Let S be a C1 real (k ? 1)-dimensional submanifold of M which is noncharacteristic for ??t6M at p?S. Conditions are found so that a C solution f of ??t6Mf = 0 which vanishes on one side of S in M must vanish in a neighborhood of p in M. If M is a real hypersurface, it is known that such unique continuation always exists. If the codimension of M in Cn is greater than 1, and if the excess dimension of the Levi algebra on M is constant, then it is proved that CR-functions on M which vanish on one side of S must vanish in a full neighborhood of p. The assumption on the dimension of the Levi algebra allows us to use the Complex Frobenius Theorem. Other methods to prove such unique continuation results are also developed.  相似文献

Let R be a Dedekind domain satisfying the Jordan-Zassenhaus theorem (e.g., the ring of integers in a number field) and Λ a module finite R-algebra. We extend classical results of Jacobinski, Roiter, and Drozd on orders and lattices. In particular, it is shown that the genus of a finitely generated Λ-module M is finite. Moreover, given M, there exist a positive integer t and a finite extension S of R such that a Λ-module N is the genus of M if and only if M(t) ? N(t) if and only if M ? S ? N ? S.  相似文献

We review the theory of quaternionic Kähler and hyperkähler structures. Then we consider the tangent bundle of a Riemannian manifold M endowed with a metric connection D, with torsion, and with its well estabilished canonical complex structure. With an almost Hermitian structure on M it is possible to find a quaternionic Hermitian structure on TM, which is quaternionic Kähler if, and only if, D is flat and torsion free. We also review the symplectic nature of TM, in the wider context of geometry with torsion. Finally we discover an S 3-bundle of complex structures, which expands to TM the well known S 2-twistor bundle of a quaternionic Hermitian manifold M.  相似文献

The purpose of this article is to develop a notion of character amenability for semigroup algebras. The main results concern the χ-amenability of M a (S). The (4n+3)-dimensional sphere S4n+3 can be viewed as the boundary of the quaternionic hyperbolic space and the group PSp(n+1,1) of quaternionic hyperbolic isometries extends to a real analytic transitive action on S4n+3. We call the pair (PSp(n+1,1),S4n+3) a spherical Q C-C geometry. A manifold M locally modelled on this geometry is said to be a spherical Q C-C manifold. We shall classify all pairs (G,M) where G is a three-dimensional connected Lie group which acts smoothly and almost freely on a compact spherical Q C-C manifold M, preserving the geometric structure. As an application, we shall determine all compact 3-pseudo-Sasakian manifolds admitting spherical Q C-C structures.  相似文献

All manifolds M considered in this Note are orientable Seifert 3-manifolds with base surface S2 and infinite fundamental group π1 (M). Our goal is to compute the cohomology ring H* (M; Z/2Z). The ring structure will enable us to determine whether M admits a degree 1 map into RP3 or not. We describe the equivariant chain complex for the universal cover M of M, and give a diagonal approximation. The cohomology ring H* (M; Z/2Z) is computed.  相似文献

For any closed connected orientable 3-manifold M, we present a method for constructing infinitely many hyperbolic spatial embeddings of a given finite graph with no vertex of degree less than two from hyperbolic spatial graphs in S3 via the Heegaard splitting theory. These spatial embeddings are adjustable so as to take cycle subgraphs into specified homotopy classes of loops in M.  相似文献

S. Deshmukh has obtained interesting results for first nonzero eigenvalue of a minimal hypersurface in the unit sphere. In the present article, we generalize these results to pseudoumbilical hypersurface and prove: What conditions are satisfied by the first nonzero eigenvalue λ 1 of the Laplacian operator on a compact immersed pseudo-umbilical hypersurface M in the unit sphere S n+1. We also show that a compact immersed pseudo-umbilical hypersurface of the unit sphere S n+1 with λ 1 = n is either isometric to the sphere S n or for this hypersurface an inequaluity is fulfilled in which sectional curvatures of the hypersuface M participate.  相似文献

For any rank r oriented matroid M, a construction is given of a ??topological representation?? of M by an arrangement of homotopy spheres in a simplicial complex which is homotopy equivalent to S r?C1 . The construction is completely explicit and depends only on a choice of maximal flag in M. If M is orientable, then all Folkman-Lawrence representations of all orientations of M embed in this representation in a homotopically nice way.  相似文献
