In this paper we define the concept of a ramified covering map in the category of simplicial sets and we show that it has properties analogous to those of the topological ramified covering maps. We show that the geometric realization of a simplicial ramified covering map is a topological ramified covering map, and we also consider the relation with ramified covering maps in the category of simplicial complexes.  相似文献

Finite-sheeted covering mappings onto compact connected groups are studied. We show that for a covering mapping from a connected Hausdorff topological space onto a compact (in general, non-abelian) group there exists a topological group structure on the covering space such that the mapping becomes a homomorphism of groups. To prove this fact we construct an inverse system of covering mappings onto Lie groups which approximates the given covering mapping. As an application, it is shown that a covering mapping onto a compact connected abelian group G must be a homeomorphism provided that the character group of G admits division by degree of the mapping. We also get a criterion for triviality of coverings in terms of means and prove that each finite covering of G is equivalent to a polynomial covering.  相似文献

Let G be a finite group. The objective of this paper is twofold. First we prove that the cellular Bredon homology groups with coefficients in an arbitrary coefficient system M are isomorphic to the homotopy groups of certain topological abelian group. And second, we study ramified covering G-maps of simplicial sets and of simplicial complexes. As an application, we construct a transfer for them in Bredon homology, when M is a Mackey functor. We also show that the Bredon-Illman homology with coefficients in M satisfies the equivariant weak homotopy equivalence axiom in the category of G-spaces.  相似文献

Let G be a 2-dimensional connected, compact Abelian group and s be a positive integer. We prove that a classification of s-sheeted covering maps over G is reduced to a classification of s-index torsionfree supergroups of the Pontrjagin dual . Using group theoretic results from earlier paper we demonstrate its consequences. We also prove that for a connected compact group Y:

Every finite-sheeted covering map from a connected space over Y is equivalent to a covering homomorphism from a compact, connected group.
(2)
If two finite-sheeted covering homomorphisms over Y are equivalent, then they are equivalent as topological homomorphisms.

We provide an explicit algorithm of computing the mapping degree of a rational mapping from the real projective line to itself. As a corollary we prove Sturm’s theorem and a number of its generalizations. These generalizations are used to prove Tarski’s theorem about real semialgebraic sets. Given any C2 semialgebraic function f defined on a non-bounded open set of Rn, we prove that the limit of the secants at infinity of a non-bounded trajectory of the gradient of f does exist. As a corollary we find a new sufficient condition to ensure the trivialisation by the gradient flow of f nearby a regular asymptotic critical value at infinity.  相似文献

We present short proofs of all known topological properties of general Busemann G-spaces (at present no other property is known for dimensions more than four). We prove that all small metric spheres in locally G-homogeneous Busemann G-spaces are homeomorphic and strongly topologically homogeneous. This is a key result in the context of the classical Busemann conjecture concerning the characterization of topological manifolds, which asserts that every n-dimensional Busemann G-space is a topological n-manifold. We also prove that every Busemann G-space which is uniformly locally G-homogeneous on an orbal subset must be finite-dimensional.  相似文献

Let X be a semialgebraic (or algebraic) set and let x0X be a singular point. There are some topological cycles of different dimensions contained in a small neighbourhood of x0 in X. All these cycles vanish in x0. The paper is devoted to “vanishing rates” of these cycles, which we call “characteristic exponents”. We describe the relationship between closed affine laminations in a punctured surface and some associated hyperbolic structures on certain covers of the punctured surface, which we call covering hyperbolic structures. Further, in analogy with the theory of William Thurston relating the Teichmüller space of a surface to the projective lamination space, we describe a space with points representing affine laminations in a given surface and with other points representing the associated covering hyperbolic structures. Given a semianalytic set S in ${\mathbb{C}^n}$ and a point ${p \in \bar{S}}$ , there is a unique smallest complex-analytic germ X p which contains S p , called the holomorphic closure of S p . We show that if S is semialgebraic then X p is a Nash germ, for every p, and S admits a semialgebraic filtration by the holomorphic closure dimension. As a consequence, every semialgebraic subset of a complex vector space admits a semialgebraic stratification into CR manifolds.  相似文献

No convenient internal characterization of spaces that are productively Lindelöf is known. Perhaps the best general result known is Alster?s internal characterization, under the Continuum Hypothesis, of productively Lindelöf spaces which have a basis of cardinality at most 11. It turns out that topological spaces having Alster?s property are also productively weakly Lindelöf. The weakly Lindelöf spaces form a much larger class of spaces than the Lindelöf spaces. In many instances spaces having Alster?s property satisfy a seemingly stronger version of Alster?s property and consequently are productively X, where X is a covering property stronger than the Lindelöf property. This paper examines the question: When is it the case that a space that is productively X is also productively Y, where X and Y are covering properties related to the Lindelöf property.  相似文献

We show that the map separation property (MSP), a concept due to H.W. Lambert and R.B. Sher, is an appropriate analogue of J.W. Cannon’s disjoint disks property (DDP) for the class C of compact generalized 3-manifolds with zero-dimensional singular set, modulo the Poincaré conjecture. Our main result is that the Poincaré conjecture (in dimension three) is equivalent to the conjecture that every X?C with the MSP is a topological 3-manifold.  相似文献

As an analogue of the classical cable knot, the p-cable n-knot about an n-knot K, where p is an integer and n?2, is defined, and some basic properties of higher dimensional cable knots are described. We show that for p>0 then p-fold branched cyclic covering space of an (n+2)-sphere branched over the p-cable knot about an n-knot K is an (n+2)-sphere or a homotopy (n+2)-sphere which is the result of Gluck-surgery on the composition of p copies of K according as if p is odd or even. At the same time, we prove that for any n?2 and p?2, the composition of p copies of any n-knot K is the fixed point set of a Zp-action on an (n+2)-sphere. This is another counterexample to the higher dimensional Smith conjecture.  相似文献

The existence of a solvable non-normal Fitting class F which is not a Lockett class but for which the Lockett Conjecture still holds are studied. We also prove that there exists an ω-local Fitting class F which does not satisfy the Lockett conjecture but the Lockett conjecture still holds under a given condition. As a consequence of our result, a generalized version of the Lausch's problem in the well-known Kourovka Notebook is answered.  相似文献

Let M, M be compact oriented 3-manifolds and L a link in M whose exterior has positive Gromov norm. We prove that the topological types of M and (M,L) determine the degree of a strongly cyclic covering branched over L. R. Pol has shown that for every countable ordinal number α there exists a universal space for separable metrizable spaces X with trindX?α. W. Olszewski has shown that for every countable limit ordinal number λ there is no universal space for separable metrizable space with trIndX?λ. T. Radul and M. Zarichnyi have proved that for every countable limit ordinal number there is no universal space for separable metrizable spaces with dimWX?α where dimW is a transfinite extension of covering dimension introduced by P. Borst. We prove the same result for another transfinite extension dimC of the covering dimension.As an application, we show that there is no absorbing sets (in the sense of Bestvina and Mogilski) for the classes of spaces X with dimCX?α belonging to some absolute Borel class.  相似文献
