In this paper we prove that, in contrast with the Sn and CPn cases, there are harmonic 2-tori into the quaternionic projective space HPn which are neither of finite type nor of finite uniton number; we also prove that any harmonic 2-torus in a compact Riemannian symmetric space which can be obtained via the twistor construction is of finite type if and only it is constant; in particular, we conclude that any harmonic 2-torus in CPn or Sn which is simultaneously of finite type and of finite uniton number must be constant.  相似文献

We investigate variations of Brieskorn lattices over non-compact parameter spaces, and discuss the corresponding limit objects on the boundary divisor. We study the associated variation of twistors and the corresponding limit mixed twistor structures. We construct a compact classifying space for regular singular Brieskorn lattices and prove that its pure polarized part carries a natural hermitian structure and that the induced distance makes it into a complete metric space.  相似文献

We show that given a harmonic map φ from a Riemann surface to a classical compact simply connected inner symmetric space, there is a J 2-holomorphic twistor lift of φ (or its negative) if and only if it is nilconformal. In the case of harmonic maps of finite uniton number, we give algebraic formulae in terms of holomorphic data which describes their extended solutions. In particular, this gives explicit formulae for the twistor lifts of all harmonic maps of finite uniton number from a surface to the above symmetric spaces.  相似文献

In this paper we study the Calabi diastasis function of Hermitian symmetric spaces. This allows us to prove that if a complete Hermitian locally symmetric space (M,g) admits a Kähler immersion into a globally symmetric space (S,G) then it is globally symmetric and the immersion is injective. Moreover, if (S,G) is symmetric of a specified type (Euclidean, noncompact, compact), then (M,g) is of the same type. We also give a characterization of Hermitian globally symmetric spaces in terms of their diastasis function. Finally, we apply our analysis to study the balanced metrics, introduced by Donaldson, in the case of locally Hermitian symmetric spaces.  相似文献

Meromorphicity is the most basic property for holomorphic -actions on compact complex manifolds. We prove that the meromorphicity of -actions on compact complex manifolds are not necessarily preserved by small deformations, if the complex dimension of complex manifolds is greater than two. In contrast, we also show that the meromorphicity of -actions on compact complex surface depends only on the topology (the first Betti number) of the surface. We construct such examples of dimension greater than two by studying an equivariant deformation of certain complex threefold, so called a twistor space. We give a proof that the sphere S6 does not admit an integrable orthogonal complex structure using simple differential geometric methods. This appears as a corollary of a general analogous result concerning pseudo-spheres.We study the twistor space of a pseudo-Riemannian manifold in both the holomorphic and pseudo-Riemannian directions. In particular, we construct the twistor space of a pseudo-sphere as a known pseudo-Kähler symmetric space. This leads to the explicit, unexpected computation of the exterior derivative of the Kähler form on the base manifold.  相似文献

In this note, we find the conditions on an odd-dimensional Riemannian manifolds under which its twistor space is eta-Einstein. This can be used to yield an Einstein metric on the tangent sphere bundle of any 3-dimensional manifold of positive constant curvature.  相似文献

The n-dimensional complex hyperquadric is a compact complex algebraic hypersurface defined by the quadratic equation in the (n+1)-dimensional complex projective space, which is isometric to the real Grassmann manifold of oriented 2-planes and is a compact Hermitian symmetric space of rank 2. In this paper, we study geometry of compact Lagrangian submanifolds in complex hyperquadrics from the viewpoint of the theory of isoparametric hypersurfaces in spheres. From this viewpoint we provide a classification theorem of compact homogeneous Lagrangian submanifolds in complex hyperquadrics by using the moment map technique. Moreover we determine the Hamiltonian stability of compact minimal Lagrangian submanifolds embedded in complex hyperquadrics which are obtained as Gauss images of isoparametric hypersurfaces in spheres with g(=  1, 2, 3) distinct principal curvatures. We study the Einstein condition for a natural family of Riemannian metrics on the twistor space of partially complex structures of a fixed rank on the tangent spaces of a Riemannian manifold compatible with its metric. A generalization of the Einstein condition (discussed in the Besse book [Enstein Manifolds, Ergeb. Math. Grensgeb. (3), vol. 10, Springer, New York, 1987]) is also considered.  相似文献

The Fourier coefficients of a smooth K-invariant function on a compact symmetric space M=U/K are given by integration of the function against the spherical functions. For functions with support in a neighborhood of the origin, we describe the size of the support by means of the exponential type of a holomorphic extension of the Fourier coefficients.  相似文献

Thehomotopical rank of a mapf:MN is, by definition, min{dimg(M) ¦g homotopic tof}. We give upper bounds for this invariant whenM is compact Kähler andN is a compact discrete quotient of a classical symmetric space, e.g., the space of positive definite matrices. In many cases the upper bound is sharp and is attained by geodesic immersions of locally hermitian symmetric spaces. An example is constructed (Section 9) to show that there do, in addition, exist harmonic maps of quite a different character. A byproduct is construction of an algebraic surface with large and interesting fundamental group. Finally, a criterion for lifting harmonic maps to holomorphic ones is given, as is a factorization theorem for representations of the fundamental group of a compact Kähler manifold. The technique for the main result is a combination of harmonic map theory, algebra, and combinatorics; it follows the path pioneered by Siu in his ridigity theorem and later extended by Sampson.  相似文献

In this paper we prove that a submanifold with parallel mean curvature of a space of constant curvature, whose second fundamental form has the same algebraic type as the one of a symmetric submanifold, is locally symmetric. As an application, using properties of Clifford systems, we give a short and alternative proof of a result of Cartan asserting that a compact isoparametric hypersurface of the sphere with three distinct principal curvatures is a tube around the Veronese embedding of the real, complex, quaternionic or Cayley projective planes. In this article, relations between the root space decomposition of a Riemannian symmetric space of compact type and the root space decompositions of its totally geodesic submanifolds (symmetric subspaces) are described. These relations provide an approach to the classification of totally geodesic submanifolds in Riemannian symmetric spaces; this is exemplified by the classification of the totally geodesic submanifolds in the complex quadric Qm:=SO(m+2)/(SO(2)×SO(m)) obtained in the second part of the article. The classification shows that the earlier classification of totally geodesic submanifolds of Qm by Chen and Nagano (see [B.-Y. Chen, T. Nagano, Totally geodesic submanifolds of symmetric spaces, I, Duke Math. J. 44 (1977) 745-755]) is incomplete. More specifically, two types of totally geodesic submanifolds of Qm are missing from [B.-Y. Chen, T. Nagano, Totally geodesic submanifolds of symmetric spaces, I, Duke Math. J. 44 (1977) 745-755]: The first type is constituted by manifolds isometric to CP1×RP1; their existence follows from the fact that Q2 is (via the Segre embedding) holomorphically isometric to CP1×CP1. The second type consists of 2-spheres of radius which are neither complex nor totally real in Qm.  相似文献

In this paper we discuss the instability of harmonic foliations on compact submanifolds immersed in Euclidean spaces and compact homogeneous spaces. We obtain a sufficient condition for a harmonic foliation to be unstable on compact submanifolds in a Euclidean space and on compact isotropy irreducible homogeneous spaces. We also classify compact symmetric spaces which have no non-trivial stable harmonic foliation.  相似文献

We determine all irreducible homogeneous bundles with anti-self-dual canonical connections on compact quaternion symmetric spaces. To deform the canonical connections, we give a relation between the representation theory and the theory of monads on the twistor space. The moduli spaces are described via the Bott-Borel-Weil Thereom. The Horrocks bundle is also generalized to higher-dimensional projective spaces.
