Assuming a measurable cardinal exists, we construct a pair of discretely generated spaces whose product fails to be weakly discretely generated. Under the Continuum Hypothesis, a similar result is obtained for a pair of countable Fréchet spaces as well as for two compact discretely generated spaces whose product is not discretely generated. A somewhat weaker example is presented assuming Martin's Axiom for countable posets. Further, the class of strongly discretely generated compacta is shown to preserve discrete generability in products.  相似文献

We characterize the spaces X for which the space Cp(X) of real valued continuous functions with the topology of pointwise convergence has local properties related to the preservation of countable tightness or the Fréchet property in products. In particular, we use the methods developed to construct an uncountable subset W of the real line such that the product of Cp(W) with any strongly Fréchet space is Fréchet. The example resolves an open question.  相似文献

We continue the study of Selectively Separable (SS) and, a game-theoretic strengthening, strategically selectively separable spaces (SS+) (see Barman, Dow (2011) [1]). The motivation for studying SS+ is that it is a property possessed by all separable subsets of Cp(X) for each σ-compact space X. We prove that the winning strategy for countable SS+ spaces can be chosen to be Markov. We introduce the notion of being compactlike for a collection of open sets in a topological space and with the help of this notion we prove that there are two countable SS+ spaces such that the union fails to be SS+, which contrasts the known result about SS spaces. We also prove that the product of two countable SS+ spaces is again countable SS+. One of the main results in this paper is that the proper forcing axiom, PFA, implies that the product of two countable Fréchet spaces is SS, a statement that was shown in Barman, Dow (2011) [1] to consistently fail. An auxiliary result is that it is consistent with the negation of CH that all separable Fréchet spaces have π-weight at most ω1.  相似文献

It is shown to be consistent that countable, Fréchet, 1-spaces are first countable. The result is obtained by using a countable support iteration of proper partial orders of length 2.The research of both authors is partially supported by NSERC  相似文献

Fréchet-Urysohn (briefly F-U) property for topological spaces is known to be highly non-multiplicative; for instance, the square of a compact F-U space is not in general Fréchet-Urysohn [P. Simon, A compact Fréchet space whose square is not Fréchet, Comment. Math. Univ. Carolin. 21 (1980) 749-753. [27]]. Van Douwen proved that the product of a metrizable space by a Fréchet-Urysohn space may not be (even) sequential. If the second factor is a topological group this behaviour improves significantly: we have obtained (Theorem 1.6(c)) that the product of a first countable space by a F-U topological group is a F-U space. We draw some important consequences by interacting this fact with Pontryagin duality theory. The main results are the following:
(1)
If the dual group of a metrizable Abelian group is F-U, then it must be metrizable and locally compact.
(2)
Leaning on (1) we point out a big class of hemicompact sequential non-Fréchet-Urysohn groups, namely: the dual groups of metrizable separable locally quasi-convex non-locally precompact groups. The members of this class are furthermore complete, strictly angelic and locally quasi-convex.
(3)
Similar results are also obtained in the framework of locally convex spaces.
Another class of sequential non-Fréchet-Urysohn complete topological Abelian groups very different from ours is given in [E.G. Zelenyuk, I.V. Protasov, Topologies of Abelian groups, Math. USSR Izv. 37 (2) (1991) 445-460. [32]].  相似文献

We continue our study [G. Gruenhage, P.J. Szeptycki, Fréchet Urysohn for finite sets, Topology Appl. 151 (2005) 238-259] of several variants of the property of the title. We answer a question from that paper by showing that a space defined in a natural way from a certain Hausdorff gap is a Fréchet α2 space which is not Fréchet-Urysohn for 2-point sets (FU2), and answer a question of Hrušák by showing that under MAω1, no such “gap space” is FU2. We also introduce versions of the properties which are defined in terms of “selection principles”, give examples when possible showing that the properties are distinct, and discuss relationships of these properties to convergence in product spaces, to the αi-spaces of A.V. Arhangel'skii, and to topological games.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the existence of solutions as well as the topological and geometric structure of solution sets for first-order impulsive differential inclusions in some Fréchet spaces. Both the initial and terminal problems are considered. Using ingredients from topology and homology, the topological structures of solution sets (closedness and compactness) as well as some geometric properties (contractibility, acyclicity, AR and Rδ) are investigated. Some of our existence results are obtained via the method of taking the inverse system limit on noncompact intervals.  相似文献

In this work we expand upon the theory of open ultrafilters in the setting of regular spaces. In [E. van Douwen, Remote points, Dissertationes Math. (Rozprawy Mat.) 188 (1981) 1-45], van Douwen showed that if X is a non-feebly compact Tychonoff space with a countable π-base, then βX has a remote point. We develop a related result for the class of regular spaces which shows that in a non-feebly compact regular space X with a countable π-base, there exists a free open ultrafilter on X that is also a regular filter.Of central importance is a result of Mooney [D.D. Mooney, H-bounded sets, Topology Proc. 18 (1993) 195-207] that characterizes open ultrafilters as open filters that are saturated and disjoint-prime. Smirnov [J.M. Smirnov, Some relations on the theory of dimensions, Mat. Sb. 29 (1951) 157-172] showed that maximal completely regular filters are disjoint prime, from which it was concluded that βX is a perfect extension for a Tychonoff space X. We extend this result, and other results of Skljarenko [E.G. Skljarenko, Some questions in the theory of bicompactifications, Amer. Math. Soc. Transl. Ser. 2 58 (1966) 216-266], by showing that a maximal regular filter on any Hausdorff space is disjoint prime.Open ultrafilters are integral to the study of maximal points and lower topologies in the partial order of Hausdorff topologies on a fixed set. We show that a maximal point in a Hausdorff space cannot have a neighborhood base of feebly compact neighborhoods. One corollary is that no locally countably compact Hausdorff topology is a lower topology, which was shown previously under the additional assumption of countable tightness by Alas and Wilson [O. Alas, R. Wilson, Which topologies can have immediate successors in the lattice of T1-topologies? Appl. Gen. Topol. 5 (2004) 231-242]. Another is that a maximal point in a feebly compact space is not a regular point. This generalizes results of both Carlson [N. Carlson, Lower upper topologies in the Hausdorff partial order on a fixed set, Topology Appl. 154 (2007) 619-624] and Costantini [C. Costantini, On some questions about posets of topologies on a fixed set, Topology Proc. 32 (2008) 187-225].  相似文献

Let X be a Suslin-Borel set in a compact space. It is proved that X is either σ-scattered or contains a compact perfect set. If X is first countable, the result remains valid when X is a Suslin-Borel set in a Prohorov space. It is also proved that every first countable Prohorov space is a Baire space.  相似文献

A topological space X is called linearly Lindelöf if every increasing open cover of X has a countable subcover. It is well known that every Lindelöf space is linearly Lindelöf. The converse implication holds only in particular cases, such as X being countably paracompact or if nw(X)<ω.Arhangel?skii and Buzyakova proved that the cardinality of a first countable linearly Lindelöf space does not exceed 02. Consequently, a first countable linearly Lindelöf space is Lindelöf if ω>02. They asked whether every linearly Lindelöf first countable space is Lindelöf in ZFC. This question is supported by the fact that all known linearly Lindelöf not Lindelöf spaces are of character at least ω. We answer this question in the negative by constructing a counterexample from MA+ω<02.A modification of Alster?s Michael space that is first countable is presented.  相似文献

The general question, “When is the product of Fréchet spaces Fréchet?” really depends on the questions of when a product of α4 Fréchet spaces (also known as strongly Fréchet or countably bisequential spaces) is α4, and when it is Fréchet. Two subclasses of the class of strongly Fréchet spaces shed much light on these questions. These are the class of α3 Fréchet spaces and its subclass of 0-bisequential spaces. The latter is closed under countable products, the former not even under finite products. A number of fundamental results and open problems are recalled, some further highlighting the difference between being α3 and Fréchet and being 0-bisequential.  相似文献

We give an internal characterization of the exponential objects in the constructPrtop and investigate Cartesian closedness for coreflective or topological full subconstructs ofPrtop. If $ is the set {0} {1/n;n 1} endowed with the topology induced by the real line, we show that there is no full coreflective subconstruct ofPrtop containing $ and which is Cartesian closed. With regard to topological full subconstructs ofPrtop we give an example of a Cartesian closed one that is large enough to contain all topological Fréchet spaces and allT 1 pretopological Fréchet spaces.Aspirant NFWO  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to establish the equivalence between the real and topologically real analyticity of Fréchet-valued functions on Fréchet spaces. This is an extension of recent results of Bonet and Domanski [1, 2] to infinite dimension.Received February 19, 2002; in revised form June 25, 2002 Published online May 16, 2003  相似文献

We consider the question: when is a dense subset of a space XC-embedded in X? We introduce the notion of o-tightness and prove that if each finite subproduct of a product X = Πα?AXα has a countable o-tightness and Y is a subset of X such that πB(Y) = Πα?BXα for every countable B ? A, then Y is C-embedded in X. This result generalizes some of Noble and Ulmer's results on C-embedding.  相似文献

A simple natural proof of van de Vel's selection theorem for topological convex structures is given. The technique developed to achieve this proof allows to give also a direct simple proof of the classical Michael's selection theorem in Fréchet spaces, and the Horvath's selection theorem in metric l.c.-spaces.  相似文献

L. Foged proved that a weakly regular topology on a countable set is regular. In terms of convergence theory, this means that the topological reflection of a regular pretopology ξ on a countable set is regular. It is proved that this still holds if ξ is a regular σ-compact pretopology. On the other hand, it is proved that for each n<ω there is a (regular) pretopology ρ (on a set of cardinality c) such that k(RT)ρ>n(RT)ρ for each k<n and n(RT)ρ is a Hausdorff compact topology, where R is the reflector to regular pretopologies. It is also shown that there exists a regular pretopology of Hausdorff RT-order ?ω0. Moreover, all these pretopologies have the property that all the points except one are topological and regular.  相似文献

Recent contributions on spaceability have overlooked the applicability of results on operator range subspaces of Banach spaces or Fréchet spaces. Here we consider general results on spaceability of the complement of an operator range, some of which we extend to the complement of a union of countable chains of operator ranges. Applications we give include spaceability of the non-absolutely convergent power series in the disk algebra and of the non-absolutely p-summing operators between certain pairs of Banach spaces. Another application is to ascent and descent of countably generated sets of continuous linear operators, where we establish some closed range properties of sets with finite ascent and descent.  相似文献

We show that a Hausdorff paratopological group G admits a topological embedding as a subgroup into a topological product of Hausdorff first-countable (second-countable) paratopological groups if and only if G is ω-balanced (totally ω-narrow) and the Hausdorff number of G is countable, i.e., for every neighbourhood U of the neutral element e of G there exists a countable family γ of neighbourhoods of e such that ?VγVV−1⊆U. Similarly, we prove that a regular paratopological group G can be topologically embedded as a subgroup into a topological product of regular first-countable (second-countable) paratopological groups if and only if G is ω-balanced (totally ω-narrow) and the index of regularity of G is countable. As a by-product, we show that a regular totally ω-narrow paratopological group with countable index of regularity is Tychonoff.  相似文献

In this paper we examineLF spaces, inductive limits of Fréchet spaces, in two different settings: the categoryCV S of convergence vector spaces and the categoryLC S of locally convex topological vector spaces. Special attention is given to permanence properties and retractivity properties in each case. Some interaction between properties ofLF spaces inCV S and other properties inLC S are investigated.R.
