Summary Recently, in answer to a question of Kolmogorov, G.D. Makarov obtained best-possible bounds for the distribution function of the sumX+Y of two random variables,X andY, whose individual distribution functions,F X andF Y, are fixed. We show that these bounds follow directly from an inequality which has been known for some time. The techniques we employ, which are based on copulas and their properties, yield an insightful proof of the fact that these bounds are best-possible, settle the question of equality, and are computationally manageable. Furthermore, they extend to binary operations other than addition and to higher dimensions.  相似文献

Abstract

Let A be a commutative ring with identity, let X, Y be indeterminates and let F(X,Y), G(X, Y) ∈ A[X, Y] be homogeneous. Then the pair F(X, Y), G(X, Y) is said to be radical preserving with respect to A if Rad((F(x, y), G(x, y))R) = Rad((x,y)R) for each A-algebra R and each pair of elements x, y in R. It is shown that infinite sequences of pairwise radical preserving polynomials can be obtained by homogenizing cyclotomic polynomials, and that under suitable conditions on a ?-graded ring A these can be used to produce an infinite set of homogeneous prime ideals between two given homogeneous prime ideals P ? Q of A such that ht(Q/P) = 2.  相似文献

The behavior of the posterior for a large observation is considered. Two basic situations are discussed; location vectors and natural parameters.Let X = (X1, X2, …, Xn) be an observation from a multivariate exponential distribution with that natural parameter Θ = (Θ1, Θ2, …, Θn). Let θx* be the posterior mode. Sufficient conditions are presented for the distribution of Θ − θx* given X = x to converge to a multivariate normal with mean vector 0 as |x| tends to infinity. These same conditions imply that E(Θ | X = x) − θx* converges to the zero vector as |x| tends to infinity. The posterior for an observation X = (X1, X2, …, Xn is considered for a location vector Θ = (Θ1, Θ2, …, Θn) as x gets large along a path, γ, in Rn. Sufficient conditions are given for the distribution of γ(t) − Θ given X = γ(t) to converge in law as t → ∞. Slightly stronger conditions ensure that γ(t) − E(Θ | X = γ(t)) converges to the mean of the limiting distribution. These basic results about the posterior mean are extended to cover other estimators. Loss functions which are convex functions of absolute error are considered. Let δ be a Bayes estimator for a loss function of this type. Generally, if the distribution of Θ − E(Θ | X = γ(t)) given X = γ(t) converges in law to a symmetric distribution as t → ∞, it is shown that δ(γ(t)) − E(Θ | X = γ(t)) → 0 as t → ∞.  相似文献

Let X,i.i.d. and Y1i. i.d. be two sequences of random variables with unknown distribution functions F(x) and G(y) respectively. X, are censored by Y1. In this paper we study the uniform consistency of the Kaplan-Meier estimator under the case ey=sup(t:F(t)<1)>to=sup(t2G(t)<1) The sufficient condition is discussed.  相似文献

Upper and lower bounds for generalized Christoffel functions, called Freud-Christoffel functions, are obtained. These have the form λn,p(W,j,x) = infPWLp(R)/|P(j)(X)| where the infimum is taken over all polynomials P(x) of degree at most n − 1. The upper and lower bounds for λn,p(W,j,x) are obtained for all 0 < p ∞ and J = 0, 1, 2, 3,… for weights W(x) = exp(−Q(x)), where, among other things, Q(x) is bounded in [− A, A], and Q″ is continuous in β(−A, A) for some A > 0. For p = ∞, the lower bounds give a simple proof of local and global Markov-Bernstein inequalities. For p = 2, the results remove some restrictions on Q in Freud's work. The weights considered include W(x) = exp(− ¦x¦α/2), α > 0, and W(x) = exp(− expx¦)), > 0.  相似文献

Let (T, , P) be a probability space, a P-complete sub-δ-algebra of and X a Banach space. Let multifunction t → Γ(t), t T, have a (X)-measurable graph and closed convex subsets of X for values. If x(t) ε Γ(t) P-a.e. and y(·) ε Ep x(·), then y(t) ε Γ(t) P-a.e. Conversely, x(t) ε F(Γ(t), y(t)) P-a.e., where F(Γ(t), y(t)) is the face of point y(t) in Γ(t). If X = , then the same holds true if Γ(t) is Borel and convex, only. These results imply, in particular, extensions of Jensen's inequality for conditional expectations of random convex functions and provide a complete characterization of the cases when the equality holds in the extended Jensen inequality.  相似文献

We prove that for every χ[−1, 1] and every real algebraic polynomial f of degree n such that |f(t): 1 on [−1, 1], the following inequality takes place on the complex plane |f(x+iy)||Tn(1+iy)|,−y where Tn is the Tchebycheff polynomial. This implies easily Vladimir Markov inequality.  相似文献

A numerical estimate is obtained for the error associated with the Laplace approximation of the double integral I(λ) = ∝∝D g(x,y) e−λf(x,y) dx dy, where D is a domain in , λ is a large positive parameter, f(x, y) and g(x, y) are real-valued and sufficiently smooth, and ∝(x, y) has an absolute minimum in D. The use of the estimate is illustrated by applying it to two realistic examples. The method used here applies also to higher dimensional integrals.  相似文献

On Hilbert''s Integral Inequality   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
In this paper, we generalize Hilbert's integral inequality and its equivalent form by introducing three parameterst,a, andb.Iff, g L2[0, ∞), then[formula]where π is the best value. The inequality (1) is well known as Hilbert's integral inequality, and its equivalent form is[formula]where π2is also the best value (cf. [[1], Chap. 9]). Recently, Hu Ke made the following improvement of (1) by introducing a real functionc(x),[formula]wherek(x) = 2/π∫0(c(t2x)/(1 + t2)) dtc(x), 1 − c(x) + c(y) ≥ 0, andf, g ≥ 0 (cf. [[2]]). In this paper, some generalizations of (1) and (2) are given in the following theorems, which are other than those in [ [2]].  相似文献

Let (X1Y1), (X2Y2), …, be two-dimensional random vectors which are independent and distributed as (XY). For 0<p<1, letξ(px) be the conditionalpth quantile ofYgivenX=x; that is,ξ(px)=inf{y : P(YyX=x)p}. We consider the problem of estimatingξ(px) from the data (X1Y1), (X2Y2), …, (XnYn). In this paper, a new kernel estimator ofξ(px) is proposed. The asymptotic normality and a law of the iterated logarithm are obtained.  相似文献

For a sample of iid observations {(XiYi)} from an absolutely continuous distribution, the multivariate dependence of concomitants Y[]=(Y[1]Y[2], …, Y[n]) and the stochastic order of subsets of Y[] are studied. If (XY) is totally positive dependent of order 2, Y[] is multivariate totally positive dependent of order 2. If the conditional hazard rate function of Y given X, hYX(yx), is decreasing in x for every y, Y[] is multivariate right corner set increasing. And if Y is stochastically increasing in X, the concomitants are increasing in multivariate stochastic order.  相似文献

Exact comparisons are made relating E|Y0|p, E|Yn−1|p, and E(maxjn−1 |Yj|p), valid for all martingales Y0,…,Yn−1, for each p ≥ 1. Specifically, for p > 1, the set of ordered triples {(x, y, z) : X = E|Y0|p, Y = E |Yn−1|p, and Z = E(maxjn−1 |Yj|p) for some martingale Y0,…,Yn−1} is precisely the set {(x, y, z) : 0≤xyz≤Ψn,p(x, y)}, where Ψn,p(x, y) = xψn,p(y/x) if x > 0, and = an−1,py if x = 0; here ψn,p is a specific recursively defined function. The result yields families of sharp inequalities, such as E(maxjn−1 |Yj|p) + ψn,p*(a) E |Y0|paE |Yn−1|p, valid for all martingales Y0,…,Yn−1, where ψn,p* is the concave conjugate function of ψn,p. Both the finite sequence and infinite sequence cases are developed. Proofs utilize moment theory, induction, conjugate function theory, and functional equation analysis.  相似文献

Let (X, Y), (X1, Y1), …, (Xn, Yn) be i.d.d. Rr × R-valued random vectors with E|Y| < ∞, and let Qn(x) be a kernel estimate of the regression function Q(x) = E(Y|X = x). In this paper, we establish an exponential bound of the mean deviation between Qn(x) and Q(x) given the training sample Zn = (X1, Y1, …, Xn, Yn), under conditions as weak as possible.  相似文献

For a triangular algebra 𝒜 and an automorphism σ of 𝒜, we describe linear maps F,G:𝒜𝒜 satisfying F(x)y+σ(x)G(y) = 0 whenever x,y𝒜 are such that xy = 0. In particular, when 𝒜 is a zero product determined triangular algebra, maps F and G satisfying the above condition are generalized skew derivations of the form F(x) = F(1)x+D(x) and G(x) = σ(x)G(1)+D(x) for all x𝒜, where D:𝒜𝒜 is a skew derivation. When 𝒜 is not zero product determined, we show that there are also nonstandard solutions for maps F and G.  相似文献

In this paper we define the vertex-cover polynomial Ψ(G,τ) for a graph G. The coefficient of τr in this polynomial is the number of vertex covers V′ of G with |V′|=r. We develop a method to calculate Ψ(G,τ). Motivated by a problem in biological systematics, we also consider the mappings f from {1, 2,…,m} into the vertex set V(G) of a graph G, subject to f−1(x)f−1(y)≠ for every edge xy in G. Let F(G,m) be the number of such mappings f. We show that F(G,m) can be determined from Ψ(G,τ).  相似文献

Let (X i , Y i ) be a sequence of i.i.d. random vectors in R with an absolutely continuous distribution function H and let g x (y), y R denote the conditional density of Y given X = x(F), the support of F, assuming that it exists. Also let M(x) be the (unique) conditional mode of Y given X = x defined by M(x) = arg max y (y)). In this paper new classes of smoothed rank nearest neighbor (RNN) estimators of g x (y), its derivatives and M(x) are proposed and the laws of iterated logarithm (pointwise), uniform a.s. convergence over – < y < and x a compact C(F) and the asymptotic normality for the proposed estimators are established. Our results and proofs also cover the Nadayara-Watson (NW) case. It is shown using the concept of the relative efficiency that the proposed RNN estimator is superior (asymtpotically) to the corresponding NW type estimator of M(x), considered earlier in literature.  相似文献

In this paper we consider first range times (with randomised range level) of a linear diffusion on R. Inspired by the observation that the exponentially randomised range time has the same law as a similarly randomised first exit time from an interval, we study a large family of non-negative 2-dimensional random variables (X,X′) with this property. The defining feature of the family is Fc(x,y)=Fc(x+y,0), ∀ x ≥ 0, y ≥ 0, where Fc(x,y):=P (X > x, X′ > y) We also explain the Markovian structure of the Brownian local time process when stopped at an exponentially randomised first range time. It is seen that squared Bessel processes with drift are serving hereby as a Markovian element.  相似文献

Let FX,Y(x,y) be a bivariate distribution function and Pn(x), Qm(y), n, m = 0, 1, 2,…, the orthonormal polynomials of the two marginal distributions FX(x) and FY(y), respectively. Some necessary conditions are derived for the co-efficients cn, n = 0, 1, 2,…, if the conditional expectation E[Pn(X) ∥ Y] = cnQn(Y) holds for n = 0, 1, 2,…. Several examples are given to show the application of these necessary conditions.  相似文献

Let [X, v, Y] be an abstract information channel with the input X = (X, ) and the output Y = (Y, ) which are measurable spaces, and denote by L(Y) = L(Y, ) the Banach space of all bounded signed measures with finite total variation as norm. The channel distribution ν(·,·) is considered as a function defined on (X, ) and valued in L(Y). It will be proved that, if the measurable space (Y, ) is countably generated, then the is a strongly measurable function from X into L(Y) if and only if there exists a probability measure μ on (Y, ) which dominates every measure ν(x, ·) (x X). Furthermore, under this condition, the Radon-Nikodym derivative ν(x, dy)/μ(dy) is jointly measurable with respect to the product measure space (X, , m) (Y, , μ) where m is any but fixed probability measure of (X, ). As an application, it will be shown that the channel given as above is uniformly approximated by channels of Hibert-Schmidt type.  相似文献
