The tri‐tert‐butylphenalenyl (TBPLY) radical exists as a π dimer in the crystal form with perfect overlapping of the singly occupied molecular orbitals (SOMOs) causing strong antiferromagnetic exchange interactions. 2,5‐Di‐tert‐butyl‐6‐oxophenalenoxyl (6OPO) is a phenalenyl‐based air‐stable neutral π radical with extensive spin delocalization and is a counter analogue of phenalenyl in terms of the topological symmetry of the spin density distribution. X‐ray crystal structure analyses showed that 8‐tert‐butyl‐ and 8‐(p‐XC6H4)‐6OPOs (X=I, Br) also form π dimers in the crystalline state. The π‐dimeric structure of 8‐tert‐butyl‐6OPO is seemingly similar to that of TBPLY even though its SOMO–SOMO overlap is small compared with that of TBPLY. The 8‐(p‐XC6H4) derivatives form slipped stacking π dimers in which the SOMO–SOMO overlaps are greater than in 8‐tert‐butyl‐6OPO, but still smaller than in TBPLY. The solid‐state electronic spectra of the 6OPO derivatives show much weaker intradimer charge‐transfer bands, and SQUID measurements for 8‐(p‐BrC6H4)‐6OPO show a weak antiferromagnetic exchange interaction in the π dimer. These results demonstrate that the control of the spin distribution patterns of the phenalenyl skeleton switches the mode of exchange interaction within the phenalenyl‐based π dimer. The formation of the relevant multicenter–two‐electron bonds is discussed.  相似文献

The preference of π‐stacking interactions for parallel‐displaced (PD) and twisted (TW) conformations over the fully eclipsed sandwich (S) in small π‐stacked dimers of benzene, pyridine, pyrimidine, 1,3,5‐trifluorobenzene, and hexafluorobenzene are examined in terms of enhancement of the inter‐ring density through mixing of the monomer orbitals (MOs). PD and/or TW conformations are consistent with a non‐zero “stack bond order” (SBO), defined in analogy to the bond order of conventional MO theory, as the difference in the occupation of bonding and antibonding π‐type dimer MOs. In the S conformation, the equal number of bonding and antibonding MOs cancel overall stack bonding character between the monomers for an SBO of zero and an overall repulsive interaction. PD from the S shifts the character of at least one antibonding combination of monomer π‐type MOs with nodes perpendicular to the coordinate for PD to bonding, leading to an attractive nonzero SBO. The inter‐ring density measured through the Wiberg bond index analysis shows an enhancement at the PD conformations consistent with greater interpenetration of the monomer densities. This intuitive bonding model for π‐stacking interactions is complementary to highly accurate calculations of π‐stacking energies and allows a predictive understanding of relative stability using cheaper quantum chemical methods.  相似文献

Three different dimers of the adenine–thymine (A‐T) base pair are studied to point out the changes of important properties (structure, atomic charge, energy and so on) induced by coupling between the movement of the atoms in the hydrogen bonds and the stacking interaction. The comparison of these results with those for the A‐T monomer system explains the role of the stacking interaction in the hydrogen‐atom transfer in this biologically important base pair. The results support the idea that this coupling depends on the exact dimer considered and is different for the N? N and N? O hydrogen bonds. In particular, the correlation between the hydrogen transfer and the stacking interaction is more relevant for the N? N bridge than for the N? O one. Also, the two different mechanisms of two‐hydrogen transfer (step by step and concerted) can be modified by the stacking interaction between the base pairs.  相似文献

The ability of Ex 2 Box4+ as a host, able to trap guests containing both π‐electron rich (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons‐PAHs) and π‐electron poor (quinoid‐ and nitro‐PAHs) moieties was investigated to shed light on the main factors that control the host–guest (HG) interaction. The nature of the HG interactions was elucidated by energy decomposition (EDA‐NOCV), noncovalent interaction (NCI), and magnetic response analyses. EDA‐NOCV reveals that dispersion contributions are the most significant to sustain the HG interaction, while electrostatic and orbital contributions are very tiny. In fact, no significant covalent character in the HG interactions was observed. The obtained results point strictly to NCIs, modulated by dispersion contributions. Regardless of whether the guests contain π‐electron‐rich or π‐electron‐poor moieties, and no significant charge‐transfer was observed. All in all, HG interactions between guests 3‐14 and host 2 are predominantly modulated by π‐π stacking.  相似文献

Conjugated radicals are capable of forming π‐stacking “pancake‐bonded” dimers. Members of the family of triangulene hydrocarbons, non‐Kekulé neutral multiradicals, can utilize more than one singly occupied molecular orbital (SOMO) to form multiple pancake‐bonded dimers with formal bond orders of up to five. The resulting dimer binding energies can be quite high and the intermolecular contacts rather small compared to the respective van der Waals values. The preferred configurations are driven by the large stabilization energy of overlapping SOMOs.  相似文献

The title complex, C14H20O4S8+.BF4?, is a charge‐transfer complex with typical charges for the donor and anion of +1 and ?1, respectively. Two centrosymmetrically related donors form a face‐to‐face π‐dimer with a strong intermolecular S?S interaction. These π‐dimers stack along the a axis to form a donor column. The structure is extensively hydrogen bonded.  相似文献

Noncovalent interactions involving aromatic rings, such as π‐stacking and CH/π interactions, are central to many areas of modern chemistry. However, recent studies proved that aromaticity is not required for stacking interactions, since similar interaction energies were computed for several aromatic and aliphatic dimers. Herein, the nature and origin of π/π, σ/σ, and σ/π dispersion interactions has been investigated by using dispersion‐corrected density functional theory, energy decomposition analysis, and the recently developed noncovalent interaction (NCI) method. Our analysis shows that π/π and σ/σ stacking interactions are equally important for the benzene and cyclohexane dimers, explaining why both compounds have similar boiling points. Also, similar dispersion forces are found in the benzene???methane and cyclohexane???methane complexes. However, for systems larger than naphthalene, there are enhanced stacking interactions in the aromatic dimers adopting a parallel‐displaced configuration compared to the analogous saturated systems. Although dispersion plays a decisive role in stabilizing all the complexes, the origin of the π/π, σ/σ, and σ/π interactions is different. The NCI method reveals that the dispersion interactions between the hydrogen atoms are responsible for the surprisingly strong aliphatic interactions. Moreover, whereas σ/σ and σ/π interactions are local, the π/π stacking are inherently delocalized, which give rise to a non‐additive effect. These new types of dispersion interactions between saturated groups can be exploited in the rational design of novel carbon materials.  相似文献

The intermolecular interactions in the dimers of m‐nisoldipine polymorphism were studied by B3LYP calculations and quantum theory of "atoms in molecules" (QTAIM) studies. Four geometries of dimers were obtained: dimer I (a‐dimer, O···H? N), dimer II (b‐dimer, O···H? N), dimer III (b‐dimer, π‐stacking‐c), and dimer IV (b‐dimer, π‐stacking‐p). The interaction energies of the four dimers are along the sequence of II>I>III>IV. The intermolecular distance of the interactions follows the order: I (O···H? N)II>III>IV, and the electrostatic character decreases along the sequence: I>II>III>IV.  相似文献

A Two series of oligothiophenes 2 (nT) (n=4,5), annelated with bicyclo[2.2.2]octene (BCO) units at both ends, and quaterthiophenes 3 a – c , annelated with various numbers of BCO units at different positions, were newly synthesized to investigate the driving forces of π‐dimerization and the structure–property relationships of the π‐dimers of oligothiophene radical cations. Their radical‐cation salts were prepared through chemical one‐electron oxidation by using nitrosonium hexafluoroantimonate. From variable‐temperature electron spin resonance and electronic absorption measurements, the π‐dimerization capability was found to vary among the members of the 2 (nT)+ . SbF6? series and 3 + . SbF6? series of compounds. To examine these results, density functional theory (DFT) calculations at the M06‐2X/6‐31G(d) level were conducted for the π‐dimers. This level of theory was found to successfully reproduce the previously reported X‐ray structure of ( 2 (3T))22+ having a bent π‐dimer structure with ciscis conformations. The absorption bands obtained by time‐dependent DFT calculations for the π‐dimers were in reasonable agreement with the experimental spectra. The attractive and repulsive forces for the π‐dimerization were divided into four factors: 1) SOMO–SOMO interactions, 2) van der Waals forces, 3) solvation, and 4) Coulomb repulsion, and the effects of each factor on the structural differences and chain‐length dependence are discussed in detail.  相似文献

The density functional method was applied to the study of 1,1‐diamino‐2,2‐dinitroethylene (Fox‐7)/H2O dimer. All the possible dimers ( 1, 2 and 3 ), as well as the monomers, were fully optimized with the DFT method at the B3LYP/6‐311++G** level. The basis set superposition errors (BSSE) are 4.62, 4.07 and 3.45 kJ/mol, and the zero point energy (ZPE) corrections for the interaction energies are 7.94, 5.66 and 6.40 kJ/mol for 1, 2 and 3 , respectively. Dimer 1 is the most stable, judged by binding energy. After BSSE and ZPE corrections, the greatest corrected intermolecular interaction energy of dimer 1 was predicted to be ?29.36 kJ/mol. The charge redistribution mainly occurs on the adjacent N–H··· O atoms and N–O··· H atoms between submolecules. The oxygen in the nitro group acts as a moderate hydrogen acceptor as compared to water oxygen. Based on the statistical thermodynamic method, the standard thermodynamic functions, heat capacities (C0P), entropies (S0T) and thermal corrections to enthalpy (H0T), and the changes of thermodynamic properties on going from monomer to dimer over the temperature range 200.00‐700.00 K were predicted. It is energetically or thermodynamically favorable for Fox‐7 to bind with H2O and to form dimer 1 at room temperature.  相似文献

Using first‐principles methodologies, the equilibrium structures and the relative stability of CO2@[Znq+Im] (where q=0, 1, 2; Im=imidazole) complexes are studied to understand the nature of the interactions between the CO2 and Znq+–imidazole entities. These complexes are considered as prototype models mimicking the interactions of CO2 with these subunits of zeolitic imidazolate frameworks or Zn enzymes. These computations are performed using both ab initio calculations and density functional theory. Dispersion effects accounting for long‐range interactions are considered. Solvent (water) effects were also considered using a polarizable continuum model approach. Natural bond orbital, charge, frontier orbital and vibrational analyses clearly reveal the occurrence of charge transfer through covalent and noncovalent interactions. Moreover, it is found that CO2 can adsorb through more favorable π‐type stacking as well as σ‐type hydrogen‐bonding interactions. The inter‐monomer interaction potentials show a significant anisotropy that might induce CO2 orientation and site‐selectivity effects in porous materials and in active sites of Zn enzymes. Hence, this study provides valuable information about how CO2 adsorption takes place at the microscopic level within zeolitic imidazolate frameworks and biomolecules. These findings might help in understanding the role of such complexes in chemistry, biology and material science for further development of new materials and industrial applications.  相似文献

A computational study is performed to identify the origin of the room‐temperature stability, in aqueous solution, of functionalized π‐[R‐TTF]22+ dimers (TTF=tetrathiafulvalene; R=(CH2OCH2)5CH2OH) included in the cavity of a cucurbit[8]uril (CB[8]) molecule. π‐[R‐TTF]22+ dimers in pure water are weakly stable, and are mostly dissociated at room temperature. Upon addition of CB[8] to an aqueous π‐[R‐TTF]22+ solution, a (π‐[R‐TTF]2?CB[8])2+ inclusion complex is formed. The same complex is obtained after the sequential inclusion of two [R‐TTF].+ monomers in the CB[8] molecule. Both processes are thermodynamically and kinetically allowed. π‐[R‐TTF]22+ dimers dissolved in pure water present a [TTF].+???[TTF].+ long, multicenter bond, similar to that already identified in π‐[TTF]22+ dimers dissolved in organic solvents. Upon their inclusion in CB[8], the strength and other features of the [TTF].+???[TTF].+ long, multicenter bond are preserved. The room temperature stability of the π‐[R‐TTF]22+ dimers included in CB[8] is shown to originate in the π‐[R‐TTF]22+???CB[8] interaction, the strength of which comes from a strongly attractive electrostatic component and a dispersion component. Such a dominant electrostatic term is caused by the strongly polarized charge distribution in CB[8], the geometrical complementarity of the π‐[R‐TTF]22+ and CB[8] geometries, and the amplifying effect of the 2+ charge in π‐[R‐TTF]22+.  相似文献

Purely organic radical ions dimerize in solution at low temperature, forming long, multicenter bonds, despite the metastability of the isolated dimers. Here, we present the first computational study of these π‐dimers in solution, with explicit consideration of solvent molecules and finite temperature effects. By means of force‐field and ab initio molecular dynamics and free energy simulations, the structure and stability of π‐[TCNE]22? (TCNE=tetracyanoethylene) dimers in dichloromethane have been evaluated. Although the dimers dissociate at room temperature, they are stable at 175 K and their structure is similar to the one in the solid state, with a cofacial arrangement of the radicals at an interplanar separation of approximately 3.0 Å. The π‐[TCNE]22? dimers form dissociated ion pairs with the NBu4+ counterions, and their first solvation shell comprises approximately 20 CH2Cl2 molecules. Among them, the eight molecules distributed along the equatorial plane of the dimer play a key role in stabilizing the dimer through bridging C?H???N contacts. The calculated free energy of dimerization of TCNE . ? in solution at 175 K is ?5.5 kcal mol?1. These results provide the first quantitative model describing the pairing of radical ions in solution, and demonstrate the key role of solvation forces on the dimerization process.  相似文献

A [2.2]paracyclophane‐based through‐space conjugated oligomer comprising three π‐electron systems was designed and synthesized. The arrangement of three π‐conjugated systems in an appropriate order according to the energy band gap resulted in efficient unidirectional photoexcited energy transfer by the Förster mechanism. The energy transfer efficiency and rate constants were estimated to be >0.999 and >1012 s?1, respectively. The key point for the efficient energy transfer is the orientation of the transition dipole moments. The time‐dependent density functional theory (TD‐DFT) studies revealed the transition dipole moments of each stacked π‐electron system; each dipole moment was located on the long axis of each stacked π‐electron system. This alignment of the dipole moments is favorable for fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET).  相似文献

Here, we report a new carboxylic‐functionalized water soluble π‐conjugated polymer for selective detection of highly toxic Hg2+ in neutral pH condition. carboxylic‐functionalized thiophene containing oligophenylenevinylene was synthesized and polymerized under oxidative route to obtain water soluble polymer. Free carboxylic groups present in the π‐conjugated materials provide opportunity to use pH as external stimuli for studying secondary interaction such as hydrogen bonding and aromatic π‐stacking of the chromophores. The pH changes strongly influence on the molecular interactions in the monomer, whereas the long chain polymer was less disturbed. The polymer showed high selectivity for detecting Hg2+ ions compared with any other transition metal ions in water. The detection efficiency of the polymer was found almost 40 times higher than that of its monomeric unit. Stern‐Volmer constant for the Hg2+ ion sensing was determined through concentration dependent studies as 6.4 × 105 M?1. The carboxylic‐functionalized polymer showed reversibility in the metal‐ion detecting capabilities which was further investigated by NaCl complexation with Hg2+ complex. Both funneling of excitation energy to the Hg2+ center and also excitation energy migration through chain π‐conjugated backbone were correlated to the superior sensing characteristics of the polymer compared to its monomeric counterpart. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Pyrene‐bridged boron subphthalocyanine dimers were synthesized from a mixed‐condensation reaction of 2,7‐di‐tert‐butyl‐4,5,9,10‐tetracyanopyrene and tetrafluorophthalonitrile, and their syn and anti isomers arising from the result of connecting two bowl‐shaped boron subphthalocyanine molecules were successfully separated. Expansion of the conjugated system of boron subphthalocyanine through a pyrene bridge caused a redshift of the Q band absorption relative to the parent pyrene‐fused monomer, whereas combining the curved π‐conjugation of boron subphthalocyanine with the planar π‐conjugation of pyrene enabled facile embracement of C60 molecules, owing to the enhanced concave–convex π–π stacking interactions.  相似文献

Stable meta‐ and para‐phenylene bridged porphyrin meso‐oxy radical dimers and their NiII and ZnII complexes were synthesized. All the dimers exhibited optical and electrochemical properties similar to the corresponding porphyrin meso‐oxy radical monomers, indicating small electronic interaction between the two spins. Intramolecular spin‐spin interaction through the π‐spacer was determined to be J/kB=?15.9 K for m‐phenylene bridged ZnII porphyrin dimer. The observed weak antiferromagnetic interaction has been attributed to less effective conjugation between the porphyrin radical and linking π‐spacer due to large dihedral angle. In the case of ZnII complexes, both para‐ and meta‐phenylene bridged dimers formed 1D‐chain in solutions and in the solid states through Zn‐O coordination.  相似文献

The first examples of pyrrole‐ and thiophene‐bridged 5,15‐diazaporphyrin (DAP) dimers are prepared through Stille coupling reactions of nickel(II) and copper(II) complexes of 3‐bromo‐10,20‐dimesityl‐5,15‐diazaporphyrin (mesityl=2,4,6‐trimethylphenyl) with the respective 2,5‐bis(tributylstannyl)heteroles. The effects of the heterole spacers and meso nitrogen atoms on the optical, electrochemical, and magnetic properties of the DAP dimers are investigated by UV/Vis absorption spectroscopy, density functional theory calculations, magnetic circular dichroism spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and EPR spectroscopy. The heterole spacers are found to have a significant impact on the electronic transitions over the entire π‐system. In particular, the pyrrole‐bridged DAP dimers exhibit high light‐harvesting potential in the low‐energy visible/near‐infrared region owing to the intrinsic charge‐transfer character of the lowest excitation.  相似文献

The europium complex [EuCl2(bpy)2(H2O)2]Cl?1.25 C2H6O?0.37 H2O, where bpy is 2,2′‐bipyridine, was synthesized and investigated with the aim to relate its molecular geometry and crystal packing to the efficiency of energy‐transfer processes. The presence of H‐bonds between noncoordinated Cl? ions and coordinated H2O molecules leads to the formation of discrete trimers assembled by a number of C? H???Cl and stacking interactions into ‘supramolecular balls’ which contain Cl? ions and solvate molecules (H2O and EtOH). The additional stabilization of the complex is due to intramolecular N???C interactions between two bpy ligands that causes some shortening of the Eu? N bonds. Deciphering the luminescence properties of the Eu complex was performed under consideration of both the composition of the inner coordination sphere and the peculiarities of the crystal packing. The influence of the latter and the bpy orientation on the energy of the ligand→Eu charge‐transfer state (LMCT) was established, and an additional excited state induced by the π‐stacking interaction (SICT) was identified.  相似文献
