We propose and analyze an application of a fully discrete C2 spline quadrature Petrov‐Galerkin method for spatial discretization of semi‐linear parabolic initial‐boundary value problems on rectangular domains. We prove second order in time and optimal order H1 norm convergence in space for the extrapolated Crank‐Nicolson quadrature Petrov‐Galerkin scheme. We demonstrate numerically both L2 and H1 norm optimal order convergence of the scheme even if the nonlinear source term is not smooth. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. L‐error estimates for B‐spline Galerkin finite element solution of the Rosenau–Burgers equation are considered. The semidiscrete B‐spline Galerkin scheme is studied using appropriate projections. For fully discrete B‐spline Galerkin scheme, we consider the Crank–Nicolson method and analyze the corresponding error estimates in time. A high‐accuracy numerical approach for a nonhomogeneous time‐fractional diffusion equation with Neumann and Dirichlet boundary conditions is described in this paper. The time‐fractional derivative is described in the sense of Riemann‐Liouville and discretized by the backward Euler scheme. A fourth‐order optimal cubic B‐spline collocation (OCBSC) method is used to discretize the space variable. The stability analysis with respect to time discretization is carried out, and it is shown that the method is unconditionally stable. Convergence analysis of the method is performed. Two numerical examples are considered to demonstrate the performance of the method and validate the theoretical results. It is shown that the proposed method is of order Ox4 + Δt2 ? α) convergence, where α ∈ (0,1) . Moreover, the impact of fractional‐order derivative on the solution profile is investigated. Numerical results obtained by the present method are compared with those obtained by the method based on standard cubic B‐spline collocation method. The CPU time for present numerical method and the method based on cubic B‐spline collocation method are provided.  相似文献

We prove second‐order convergence in time and optimal order H2 norm convergence in space for the CNQPG scheme that requires only linear algebraic solvers. An orthogonal spline collocation (OSC) spatial discretization is proposed for the solution of the fully coupled stream function‐vorticity formulation of the Navier–Stokes equations in two dimensions. For the time‐stepping, a three‐level leapfrog scheme is employed. This method is algebraically linear, and, at each time step, gives rise to a system of linear equations of the form arising in the OSC approximation of the biharmonic Dirichlet problem and can be solved by a fast direct method. Error estimates in the Hl–norm in space, l = 1,2, are derived for the semi‐discrete method and the fully‐discrete leapfrog scheme which is also shown to be second order accurate in time. Numerical results are presented which confirm the theoretical analysis and exhibit superconvergence phenomena, which provide superconvergent approximations to the components of the velocity. © John Wiley & Sons, Inc. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We use the bivariate spline finite elements to numerically solve the steady state Navier–Stokes equations. The bivariate spline finite element space we use in this article is the space of splines of smoothness r and degree 3r over triangulated quadrangulations. The stream function formulation for the steady state Navier–Stokes equations is employed. Galerkin's method is applied to the resulting nonlinear fourth‐order equation, and Newton's iterative method is then used to solve the resulting nonlinear system. We show the existence and uniqueness of the weak solution in H2(Ω) of the nonlinear fourth‐order problem and give an estimate of how fast the numerical solution converges to the weak solution. The Galerkin method with C1 cubic splines is implemented in MATLAB. Our numerical experiments show that the method is effective and efficient. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. In this paper, a fast second‐order accurate difference scheme is proposed for solving the space–time fractional equation. The temporal Caputo derivative is approximated by ?L2 ‐1σ formula which employs the sum‐of‐exponential approximation to the kernel function appeared in Caputo derivative. The second‐order linear spline approximation is applied to the spatial Riemann–Liouville derivative. At each time step, a fast algorithm, the preconditioned conjugate gradient normal residual method with a circulant preconditioner (PCGNR), is used to solve the resulting system that reduces the storage and computational cost significantly. The unique solvability and unconditional convergence of the difference scheme are shown by the discrete energy method. Numerical examples are given to verify numerical accuracy and efficiency of the difference schemes.  相似文献

This article presents a stabilized Galerkin technique for approximating linear contraction semi‐groups of class C0 in a Hilbert space. The main result of this article is that this technique yields an optimal approximation estimate in the graph norm. The key idea is two‐fold. First, it consists in introducing an approximation space that is broken up into resolved scales and subgrid scales, so that the bilinear form associated with the generator of the semi‐group satisfies a uniform inf‐sup condition with respect to this decomposition. Second, the Galerkin approximation is slightly modified by introducing an artificial diffusion on the subgrid scales. Previous works on the convergence of numerical methods for the Boussinesq problem were conducted, while the optimal L2‐norm error estimates for the velocity and temperature are still lacked. In this paper, the backward Euler scheme is used to discrete the time terms, standard Galerkin finite element method is adopted to approximate the variables. The MINI element is used to approximate the velocity and pressure, the temperature field is simulated by the linear polynomial. Under some restriction on the time step, we firstly present the optimal L2 error estimates of approximate solutions. Secondly, two‐level method based on Stokes iteration for the Boussinesq problem is developed and the corresponding convergence results are presented. By this method, the original problem is decoupled into two small linear subproblems. Compared with the standard Galerkin method, the two‐level method not only keeps good accuracy but also saves a lot of computational cost. Finally, some numerical examples are provided to support the established theoretical analysis.  相似文献

In this article we apply the subdomain‐Galerkin/least squares method, which is first proposed by Chang and Gunzburger for first‐order elliptic systems without reaction terms in the plane, to solve second‐order non‐selfadjoint elliptic problems in two‐ and three‐dimensional bounded domains with triangular or tetrahedral regular triangulations. This method can be viewed as a combination of a direct cell vertex finite volume discretization step and an algebraic least‐squares minimization step in which the pressure is approximated by piecewise linear elements and the flux by the lowest order Raviart‐Thomas space. This combined approach has the advantages of both finite volume and least‐squares methods. Among other things, the combined method is not subject to the Ladyzhenskaya‐Babus?ka‐Brezzi condition, and the resulting linear system is symmetric and positive definite. In 1983, the second author [D. Maru?i?, Ars Combinatoria 16B (1983), 297–302] asked for which positive integers n there exists a non‐Cayley vertex‐transitive graph on n vertices. (The term non‐Cayley numbers has later been given to such integers.) Motivated by this problem, Feng [Discrete Math 248 (2002), 265–269] asked to determine the smallest valency ?(n) among valencies of non‐Cayley vertex‐transitive graphs of order n. As cycles are clearly Cayley graphs, ?(n)?3 for any non‐Cayley number n. In this paper a goal is set to determine those non‐Cayley numbers n for which ?(n) = 3, and among the latter to determine those for which the generalized Petersen graphs are the only non‐Cayley vertex‐transitive graphs of order n. It is known that for a prime p every vertex‐transitive graph of order p, p2 or p3 is a Cayley graph, and that, with the exception of the Coxeter graph, every cubic non‐Cayley vertex‐transitive graph of order 2p, 4p or 2p2 is a generalized Petersen graph. In this paper the next natural step is taken by proving that every cubic non‐Cayley vertex‐transitive graph of order 4p2, p>7 a prime, is a generalized Petersen graph. This article deals with the web‐spline‐based finite element approximation of quasi‐Newtonian flows. First, we consider the scalar elliptic p‐Laplace problem. Then, we consider quasi‐Newtonian flows where viscosity obeys power law or Carreau law. We prove well‐posedness at the continuous as well as the discrete level. We give some error bounds for the solution of quasi‐Newtonian flow problem based on the web‐spline method. In this paper, a parameter‐uniform numerical scheme for the solution of singularly perturbed parabolic convection–diffusion problems with a delay in time defined on a rectangular domain is suggested. The presence of the small diffusion parameter ? leads to a parabolic right boundary layer. A collocation method consisting of cubic B ‐spline basis functions on an appropriate piecewise‐uniform mesh is used to discretize the system of ordinary differential equations obtained by using Rothe's method on an equidistant mesh in the temporal direction. The parameter‐uniform convergence of the method is shown by establishing the theoretical error bounds. The numerical results of the test problems validate the theoretical error bounds.  相似文献

In this article, the generalized Rosenau–KdV equation is split into two subequations such that one is linear and the other is nonlinear. The resulting subequations with the prescribed initial and boundary conditions are numerically solved by the first order Lie–Trotter and the second‐order Strang time‐splitting techniques combined with the quintic B‐spline collocation by the help of the fourth order Runge–Kutta (RK‐4) method. To show the accuracy and reliability of the proposed techniques, two test problems having exact solutions are considered. The computed error norms L2 and L with the conservative properties of the discrete mass Q(t) and energy E(t) are compared with those available in the literature. The convergence orders of both techniques have also been calculated. Moreover, the stability analyses of the numerical schemes are investigated.  相似文献

In this article, a Galerkin's finite element approach based on weighted‐residual is presented to find approximate solutions of a system of fourth‐order boundary‐value problems associated with obstacle, unilateral and contact problems. The approach utilizes a piece‐wise cubic approximations utilizing cubic Hermite interpolation polynomials. Numerical studies have shown the superior accuracy and lesser computational cost of the scheme in comparison to cubic spline, non‐polynomial spline and cubic non‐polynomial spline methods. Beautiful formulas are known for the expected cost of random two‐dimensional assignment problems, but in higher dimensions even the scaling is not known. In three dimensions and above, the problem has natural “Axial” and “Planar” versions, both of which are NP‐hard. For 3‐dimensional Axial random assignment instances of size n, the cost scales as Ω(1/ n), and a main result of the present paper is a linear‐time algorithm that, with high probability, finds a solution of cost O(n–1+o(1)). For 3‐dimensional Planar assignment, the lower bound is Ω(n), and we give a new efficient matching‐based algorithm that with high probability returns a solution with cost O(n log n). © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper considers the problems of the robust stability analysis and H controller synthesis for uncertain discrete‐time switched systems with interval time‐varying delay and nonlinear disturbances. Based on the system transformation and by introducing a switched Lyapunov‐Krasovskii functional, the novel sufficient conditions, which guarantee that the uncertain discrete‐time switched system is robust asymptotically stable are obtained in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Then, the robust H control synthesis via switched state feedback is studied for a class of discrete‐time switched systems with uncertainties and nonlinear disturbances. We designed a switched state feedback controller to stabilize asymptotically discrete‐time switched systems with interval time‐varying delay and H disturbance attenuation level based on matrix inequality conditions. Examples are provided to illustrate the advantage and effectiveness of the proposed method.  相似文献

In this study, we developed the methods based on nonpolynomial cubic spline for numerical solution of second‐order nonhomogeneous hyperbolic partial differential equation. Using nonpolynomial cubic spline in space and finite difference in time directions, we obtained the implicit three level methods of O(k2 + h2) and O(k2 + h4). The proposed methods are applicable to the problems having singularity at x = 0, too. Stability analysis of the presented methods have been carried out. The presented methods are applied to the nonhomogeneous examples of different types. Numerical comparison with Mohanty's method (Mohanty, Appl Math Comput, 165 (2005), 229–236) shows the superiority of our presented schemes. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
